I'm a Roman Catholic, and no, God does not care what you we're, that's why he says, "Come to me as you are". I believe this means that doesn't matter if you wish to wear a suit that's fine, Jesus accepts you. Or if you wish to wear casual clothing thats fine, Jesus accepts you. Personally I like to wear fancy and good looking suits. This is not to draw attention, but only what I feel comfortable in.
Years ago, I attended a church that was very liberal as far as a dress code. Basically, the leadership said, “it doesn’t matter what you wear on the outside, what matters is your heart on the inside.” The young women in our church would wear short skirts and also showed cleavage or very tight tops. It obviously was a distraction to others in the congregation. The problem with the above statement that, “what matters is your heart on the inside,” is that those who come to church don’t always have purity in their hearts. And in turn, what they wear on the outside, is a reflection of what’s in their hearts on the inside. After this behavior got out of control, the Pastor had to lay down a basic dress code. Unfortunately, we had already lost many members in the process.
For people who think we should dress to worship God... If we are Christians who have God in our daily life, should we dress for morning prayer in our quiet place? Should we dress up before we go to sleep for prayer? In any case, this means we should always be dressed up since we can pray to God whenever (because the Lord is not just found in a temple, but in our heart, ever since Jesus died for us and sent the Holy Spirit).
The Church is place of worship, and appearance does matter. Otherwise, I’ll just show up to church shirtless and when the women are distracted, I’ll claim that God doesn’t mind my attire.

Some churches go out of their ways to be “different” and claim that God doesn’t have a problem with it. I don’t really wear suits, but I am always formally dressed to go to church. Looking down on people for maybe not wearing expensive clothes or wearing the same clothes often is wrong, but the people who do that are more concerned about appearances. However, that is not to say that Christians shouldn’t have a problem with men or women wearing shorts or tank tops. There has to be some sort of a standard here. The same people who claim to not care about how Christians dress are the same who would go crazy if someone showed up to a funeral of a love one with bright colors.
While I see where he is coming from, I would counter his argument with this: Are you going to wear a t-shirt and jeans in a courtroom? If you show up in a earthly judge's courtroom wearing jeans and a t-shirt, first, they probably won't even let you in the courthouse. Secondly, the judge is likely going to hold you in contempt. When one enters the church that person's purpose is to worship the creator and king of the universe. No one would visit King Charles at Windsor Castle in anything but their best. God should be no different. Pastors should wear a robe.
I looked this question up because all I usually see is Pastors in suits and ties. Who else do we usually see in suits and ties? The wealthy and selfish, politicians, businessmen, salesmen and what do they all have in common other than their attire? People usually do not trust them. Or people feel intimidated by them rather than welcomed or embraced. If I can’t afford a snazzy suit, I myself personally, feel like I do not fit in. When the first apostles and pastors preached what did they wear? What everyone else around them wore. Peter, James, Paul walked around wearing garments the same as the average person on the streets. I believe the pastors or the people of the church need to tone down their appearance or at least dress in a way that is more inviting to the common person. What I can’t stand is when pastors are too trendy. There definitely should be a dress code. I think simple is a could way to start. I agree, it’s better not to be too flashy or be a distraction to the message. Some pastors nowadays want to make a fashion statement when preaching, I just can’t.
I understand what he is trying to do, but Church is for the Body of Christ to Worship and study the Word. Not to be part of the world to bring none believer to Christ. The people in churches choke under the suit and tie crowd. Basis in scripture or reason for suit + tie church? None. Neither God, the Apostles or prophets provided any mention of "dressing up for church". If you want to - fine - but out there the traditionalist and modern "Sunday best" movement are often viewed as hypocritical because they are seen to be putting on a show of "going to church" . The early Christians did not mention "dressing up" , in fact many of them probably had to go to work after their 4AM worship meeting. John Wesley said towards the end of his life that he longed to see a "plain clothed" congregation before he passed on. Why? Completely disagree… He seems to be conflating corporate worship with outreach. We don’t dress for man in corporate worship, we dress for God. What does that mean? Well… reverence… The gospel reaches hearts and minds not home boys blue jeans. By all means where natural blue jeans to go to a park and tell people of about the Gospel. Sunday is the lords day and gathering of the saints should be done in reverence. Every passage that was quoted was instructions for general dress and conduct. Quick story: an unshaven, unattractive man walked into a church, looked around, wondering if he should stay...finally, he walked toward the front, sat down on THE FLOOR, folded his legs and the service continued. One of the elders on the platform, noticing that the gentleman had obviously (missed the memo) on dress code, chose an opportune moment, quietly slipped from his seat up high, came down low, removed his tie, and sat indian style beside the visitor. This was a WWJD moment; highlighting the fact that Jesus dressed like the congregation He served: "the common folk heard Him gladly"...remember, This Jesus said of His own ministry that He had come to preach good tidings to "the poor" referring to the lowest political group, the dissed, the dogged out, and the disadvantaged. He knew how to identify with people used to sitting on the ground in the park to eat a picnic lunch! Bottom line He let them know that they mattered, even if they didn't shop at the Macy's, Nordstrom's or Dilliard's of that day. These are the people He discipled, and the gospel He preached...went around the world! Note: Hell will be filled by many who worshipped their wardrobe filled with silk labelled apparel, while the poor (they refused to consider, lanquished all around them!

Alright, I myself am kinda Goth. And I still pray every morning I fast I honor God in any way I can. I just tend to usually love the creations God made that most people normally don't. Matthew 7:1 Judge not and you will not be judged. That means if you people to come to your church, let them dress how they want to dress. If they don't want to wear dresses, heels or boots don't make them wear it and if they don't want to wear a suit or tie don't make them wear it. If you want somebody to go to your church, don't judge them for what they dress at church otherwise they won't come to your church, if you purposely judge them. If they don't want to go to your church, don't make them. Judging people how they dress at church leads to division and separation. We as the church will not put up with behavior for those who purposely judge people on how they dress at church. The only person who can judge is God. If you don't like the church you're at go to another church. If you hate dressing up for church, wear something you like at church that will make you feel better. The priests usually wear their black frocks with the white collar and different colured vestments based on where we are in the liturgical calendar.

What I can’t stand is when pastors are too trendy. There definitely should be a dress code. I think simple is a could way to start. I agree, it’s better not to be too flashy or be a distraction to the message. Some pastors nowadays want to make a fashion statement when preaching, I just can’t.
I understand what he is trying to do, but Church is for the Body of Christ to Worship and study the Word. Not to be part of the world to bring none believer to Christ. Again Sunday Worship is for believers to Worship God and prepare for battle. That’s what witnessing and missionary work is for outside the worship service.
Coffee in the sanctuary. ...jeans....respect for God and his house are not taught anymore and the churches are dying....half full or less....church is being made no different than going to a social club.
The people in churches choke under the suit and tie crowd. Basis in scripture or reason for suit + tie church? None. Neither God, the Apostles or prophets provided any mention of "dressing up for church". If you want to - fine - but out there the traditionalist and modern "Sunday best" movement are often viewed as hypocritical because they are seen to be putting on a show of "going to church" . The early Christians did not mention "dressing up" , in fact many of them probably had to go to work after their 4AM worship meeting. John Wesley said towards the end of his life that he longed to see a "plain clothed" congregation before he passed on. Why? Because he looked out on his congregation and saw lavish dressed up hypocrisy, that's why.
I think that all that’s been happening is churches are modernizing so their attendees are more comfortable.

Pastor wearing jeans during service, is not setting an example of reverence for God. Which is part of a problem in our society: no one acknowledges or respects that there is a sovereign & Holy God

Al Pena Thanks for chiming in. Quick question, why do you feel wearing a suit brings reverence to God? Jesus did not wear a suit, and he certainly brought reverence to God. (On a side note, nether person in this video wore a suit when interviewing for their current job.) :)
Quick story: an unshaven, unattractive man walked into a church, looked around, wondering if he should stay...finally, he walked toward the front, sat down on THE FLOOR, folded his legs and the service continued. One of the elders on the platform, noticing that the gentleman had obviously (missed the memo) on dress code, chose an opportune moment, quietly slipped from his seat up high, came down low, removed his tie, and sat indian style beside the visitor. This was a WWJD moment; highlighting the fact that Jesus dressed like the congregation He served: "the common folk heard Him gladly"...remember, This Jesus said of His own ministry that He had come to preach good tidings to "the poor" referring to the lowest political group, the dissed, the dogged out, and the disadvantaged. He knew how to identify with people used to sitting on the ground in the park to eat a picnic lunch! Bottom line He let them know that they mattered, even if they didn't shop at the Macy's, Nordstrom's or Dilliard's of that day. These are the people He discipled, and the gospel He preached...went around the world! Note: Hell will be filled by many who worshipped their wardrobe filled with silk labelled apparel, while the poor (they refused to consider, lanquished all around them!

It has nothing to do with wearing a suit heels "sophisticated" apparel. I'm not sure where people go wrong in understanding this
Then Jesus nor any of his disciples respected him either because they wore robes. They didn't have a shirt and ties. There is no set example for how to dress except to be modest so for you to say that people should dress a certain way is legalistic and pretentious.

People today have no respect for themselves or society. Churches back in the day, actually preached about sin, too. Today's churches just give ear tickling messages based on psychology. You call people pretentious for expecting others to dress up for church? That's the way they did it in the olden days, but you know more than they did, huh?

You are Wrong .. the church is not for sinners …The Bible says Romans 1-7…The church is for the Saints and all believers after you are saved …after true salvation,you’re not considered a sinner even though we do sin we are forgiven for it BUT if it’s a pattern of sinning …then you never got saved… all the epistles in the New Testament in the beginning of each book is addressed to the Saints and the believers in the church😇

Alright, I myself am kinda Goth. And I still pray every morning I fast I honor God in any way I can. I just tend to usually love the creations God made that most people normally don't. I like bats and skeletons and creepy looking creatures. They are also God's creation. And 1 Samuel 16:7 says But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Matthew 7:1 Judge not and you will not be judged. That means if you people to come to your church, let them dress how they want to dress. If they don't want to wear dresses, heels or boots don't make them wear it and if they don't want to wear a suit or tie don't make them wear it. If the men don't want to wear boots to church, don't make them wear it either. If you want somebody to go to your church, don't judge them for what they dress at church otherwise they won't come to your church, if you purposely judge them. If they don't want to go to your church, don't make them. Judging people how they dress at church leads to division and separation. We as the church will not put up with behavior for those who purposely judge people on how they dress at church. The only person who can judge is God. If you don't like the church you're at go to another church. If you hate dressing up for church, wear something you like at church that will make you feel better. Take me for an example, I didn't like wearing boots to church so, now I dress how I want to dress and I don't have to wear boots to church anymore because I'm free from slavery and I can wear the way I want to dress without all the drama. I like wearing football jerseys to church because I'm a sports fan.
