Bro I was playing this on the gamecube last night. They made me catch EVERY SINGLE JELLYFISH in Jellyfish fields (100+). I do that. And then I get told "Great! To get to the next level, collect 50 MORE jellyfish!" Fuck outta here with that 🤦
Dude, I had the GBA version of Revenge of the Flying Dutchman back in 2002 all because I NEVER had my own Nintendo GameCube back then. I don't know anything about the GameCube and PS2 versions though.
If you meant the quest where you have to bring 100 jellyfish, you're actually allowed to collect jellies from other areas but the game barely conveys that. I made that same mistake and remember it being a roadblock the very first time I ever rented it.
@CeleryX5 Yes, that's true. But considering that I was showing 100% for other areas at the time when I was told to do it think is a bit egregious. It took me a while to realize that it meant 100 jellyfish total. But by that point I had to 100% multiple areas jellyfish counts to get the 150 total to get to Goo Lagoon
This was a pretty good video! SpongeBob when it comes to video games can be hit or miss You got the best games like battle for bikini bottom SpongeBob movie And light camera pants But on the flip side you got the weird titles like the yellow avenger the curse of the Flying Dutchman (console and handheld version) And then you get the game “supersponge” which I’m surprised that THQ tried to market the game! There was this weird commercial for target (while they’re trying to hype up the game) and it features two teenagers playing video games and the radio mentions that “there’s a Ticklebear on the loose” and out of no where a dude in a bear suit would tickle one of the teenagers and instead of helping his friend he’s to busy “Getting into the game!” Get into the game was target’s video game section (much like how toys R us had the R ZONE if you remember that?)
Never played the game, but i loved the honesty and breakdown here. I was a late bloomer with gaming skill, not really getting good at games until i was like 16 years old when F Zero GX manned me up. So I definitely would have struggled a ton with GBA SpongeBob as a child. Kid me was never able to beat the SpongeBob Movie Game for the GameCube. I have PTSD from that driving level in the giant monster fissure. Then i couldn't beat the guitar gimmick level because I couldn't figure out where to go. Maybe i should go back to that game as my 30 year old Dark-Souls-vet self to revenge-beat it, like i did with Mario Sunshine.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I was actually always pretty "good" at video games and even I struggled with this one. You must've gotten pretty good though! I can barely win at F-Zero GX
I also played this as a kid! Little me was so so confused and could never figure out how to beat it, had little idea of how to even progress, so most of my playing was just platforming and exploring lmao I'm glad I'm not the only one that really struggled!
i never had a problem with and enjoyed the non-linearity of the levels and keys, but the final boss is objectively a huge problem (im only just now finding out about the barrels); i remember spending literally almost an hour straight on one life/whole attempt shooting him with bubbles thinking it would eventually do something because it gave him a damage animation and nowhere is it explained you can chop the barrels back at him
I think the keys could have worked with a map and maybe some kind of fast travel. On my recent playthroughs some levels absolutely infuriated me (the carnival and under the boardwalk I had to backtrack and replay multiple times). The final boss is definitely the bigger flaw and the reason I never beat the game as a kid.
You were better at this game than I am then haha. It’s not even so much that it’s difficult or takes a long time it’s that it isn’t enjoyable to backtrack this much. I 100%ed Mario Galaxy and that probably took me longer than it would to 100% this game but this game being so much less enjoyable to 100% makes me and probably many others less likely to do so
When I was younger I went to the dentist and they put this machine up to my nose connected to the Game Boy while playing this game can I legit got high😂
Lots of games around that time had extra lives. We see fewer and fewer as time goes by with even games like Odyssey scrapping 1-Ups but then Mario Wonder had 1-Ups. They are a pretty big staple of 2D platformers (though I don’t think most games need them)
I remember that one has a similar “key” system but with golden spatulas. I haven’t played that game in years so I intend to revisit it and see if it’s key system has the same issues
I believe i actually did beat the final boss as a kid (maybe around 10 years old?) I don't remember how long it took me to figure out the barrels, but I do remember finally seeing different attack patterns of the fight, so I know I did figure it out
I love this game too haha. This video just focused on my most scathing criticisms. It does a great job showing the SpongeBob world and has some genuinely well designed aspects.
I watch this
I get sent to your other channel which sends me back
I have been in this loop for hours
Break the cycle. Watch my play through of the game I just posted on Game Cubicle Plays! (Link in the description)

Oh man that sounds terrible. I’ll need to cover the GameCube version in the future
Then go catch the jellyfish

I beat this game as a kid and I can still remember the wish I chose at the end. I wished to star in a rock concert.

Gonna be covering the other SpongeBob games you mentioned! Stay tuned on the channel!
I don’t remember the R zone haha it was probably before my time

@TheGameCubicle Took me months of playing F Zero GX a ton to be good at Master difficulty Grand Prixes. I'm a slow learner but am super patient
I also played this as a kid! Little me was so so confused and could never figure out how to beat it, had little idea of how to even progress, so most of my playing was just platforming and exploring lmao

you made me remember this game from my childhood. It was awful
Ooof sorry to bring back bad memories. Stay tuned, I’ll be covering some better SpongeBob games soon enough
What? this game is amazing. I still play it to this day 😭
It's still one of the best handheld SpongeBob games by default unfortunately
Isn't the restart problem fixed via the code it shows you?
No because you still have to play from the beginning of the level
You kidding? I beat this 100% with little issue.
You were better at this game than I am then haha.

@@TheGameCubicle Fair. Meant no disrespect by the way. Think the game is fine enough for those who have the patience for it.
No disrespect taken!
i got this game with my gba :(
Great video! Can you review Chicken alittle from GBA
I’ll look into it!
When I was younger I went to the dentist and they put this machine up to my nose connected to the Game Boy while playing this game can I legit got high😂
This game came out in 2002 why is there lives?

@ I think lives just get rid of the challenge, but in my opinion there should be an option to get rid of lives.
That's similar to #battleforbikinibottom & nobody said this about that similar game.
I remember that one has a similar “key” system but with golden spatulas. I haven’t played that game in years so I intend to revisit it and see if it’s key system has the same issues
@TheGameCubicle Cool, Happy New Year then.
I believe i actually did beat the final boss as a kid (maybe around 10 years old?) I don't remember how long it took me to figure out the barrels, but I do remember finally seeing different attack patterns of the fight, so I know I did figure it out
Always got lost in that god forsaken kelp forest level
Hats off to you for completing it
I briefly tried every gba soongebob game and this by far was the weakest & most frustrating of the bunch
well put together video, but i just whole heartedly disagree. I love this game
skill issue
