H20 in its purest form. Injuries did cut his career short, but he gave us Knick fans some amazing years. In this game, he was giving the Lakers the business. It didn't matter who was guarding him. He even torched Kobe a couple times. And I always admired his humility and his faith.
When Kobe had set the Knicks on fire in the Garden I told my homeboys Allan Houston was going to retaliate the next game. Nobody believed me and felt Kobe was going to get at the Knicks again. Sure as you know Allan Houston set the Lakers on fire and Kobe recieved it too
I'll never forget this game. Kobe had set the Knicks on fire in New York and Allan Houston came back and set the Lakers on fire in LA. Allan went to work on the Lakers for real
Allan Houston had one of the most beautiful jumpshots I've ever seen. If you're going to teach somebody how to shoot a jump shot with perfect form, teach his jumper
Because the '03 knicks were not good enough to be a great regular season team or make it to the finals. Why would MVP be contingent on being a top 5 mid range shooter? Being MVP is more than being able to shoot. He might end up in the HOF, there are many players in that had worse career numbers than Houston.
The reasons why he didn't get voted to the hall of fame or had his jersey retire:1) Way too inconsistent. He could score 40 one night, and single digit the next game2) Subpar defender. He used to get abused by Michael Jordan and Reggie Miller3) For his height, his rebounding number was atrociousHe was just a one-dimensional player to say the least
Gary Thompson not a good idea to compare guys who are playing different positions..the criteria for being put in the HOF can be different depending on what position you play Dikembe Mutombo’s offensive numbers aren’t really all that, but his defensive numbers are outstanding.... that’s why he’s in the HOF..plus, good Center’s have always been a bit of a rare commodity. That’s even moreso the case today. As far as Allan Houston goes...his numbers just aren’t good enough...he only has 14,551 career points.... that’s simply not HOF caliber.. But if he had been able to stay healthier late in his career, been a #1 option more often, he might have made it.
Wu Liwei Dude..... who didn’t get abused by Michael Jordan??? Plus, Reggie miller was as one-dimensional as you can get...he wasn’t much of a rebounder or Defender either... but he’s in the HOF off the strength of the fact that he has over 25,000 career points.
Allan Houstons best playoff moment was helping that 99 squad reach the finals. He was such a great player wasted on those later Knicks teams. I would have loved to seen him on the Spurs, Suns or Nets.
This is a clear example of the great talent that's in the league that sometimes goes underrated. The real issue is being able to be consistent night-in & night-out over a entire career.
I'll take it a step further. How is it that this generation will refer to the likes of Allan Houston, Latrell Sprewell, and the Bruce Bowen's of the world as "plumbers" and utterly REFUSE to recognize them as legit talent, when they were competing against MJ in the 90s, yet they deem them as part of these "more advanced/skilled players", when they're busy declaring their era as "superior"? Latrell and Allan came into the league in '93 and '94 respectively. But because they played against MJ, these kids will automatically try to deem them as "inferior". But when they're trying to elevate their era in stature, watch how they'll forget this, and all of sudden include both of them in their list of alleged "superior '00s players" LOL!! This generation is a trip...
Houston's one of the best pure shooters and scorers I've ever seen, to this day....with some of the purest strokes, and smoothest moves This game he was not only hitting incredibly tough shots, the dude was poetry in motion

Well for one Allan Houston wouldn't be considered "overpaid" by people like yourself if he were playing for a better team that utilized him better. The man could play period. He earned that money. The team around him not so much.
That behind the back dribble move on the break was a sick complex combo. Similar to that one legendary Penny combo move he did to get his shot off. I'm pretty impressed by Allan Houston's play making too. No wonder they got to the Finals that one year with him and Spree.
Allen Houston had a sweet jump shot, picture perfect... I compare his jump shot to ray Allen except Allen has a faster release... And Houston jumped higher to me... Houston was a pure shooter...
He scored on Fox, George AND Kobe like it didn’t mean shit. He should’ve been what Ray Allen became. I don’t know why people slept on this guy. He was a fantastic successor for John Starks as a starting shooting guard. Damn shame what those injuries did to him after this season. He could’ve played at least 3-4 more seasons after his last. He and Starks are my favorite Knicks of all time.

Allan Houston does not have to dribbling alot to get things done. Make it simple and your usually have better results and dont use as much energy. A regular dribble makes you move faster than a crossover. Crossovers slow you down.

It was kinda like when Scottie Pippen teamed up with Charles Barkley and Hakeem Olajuwon in the Rockets during the 1999 lockout season. Luckily, Mashburn got traded to the Charlotte Hornets during the 2000 offseason and bounce back with a couple of great seasons with them.
@@Theterminato2013 Yeah the Eddie Jones sign-and-trade in summer 2000 was a blessing in disguise for the Hornets because Mashburn was better than Jones
Damn even Kobe couldn’t post up against Houston’s shot. He is the last Knick who I was such a huge fan of. So much potential to be up there with Miller, Allen, and probably Curry now.
Klay and Steph will go down as two of the best shooters in the game but nobodys jumper is as silky smooth as H20... hella unfortunate that he chose to go through with that knee surgery that pretty much derailed several stars of that generation I think he had at least 2-3 great years left without the surgery but I know he probs was hoping for at least twice that if the surgery had done what it was supposed to do
Had the Knicks management never broken up that 99 team the Knicks with a healthy Houston and spree on the team they would have won at least 2 titles. Spreewell and Houston where the best one two punch since Jordan and pippen.
I used to love how Allan haters (as much as I hate that term, that's what they were) said he was one dimensional like Steve Novak. The guy could score in any number of ways. Shame we didn't get to see him fill it up for 4-5 more years after this (2003).
I wish his knee didn't end his career so short. I would've liked to see him pad his stats for another 2 years or so, probably would've gotten the no. 20 retired if so....
