When I remembered you said "slide your front foot toward the ledge," i just focused on that it finally worked for me. Thanks dude! You're a good communicator!
awesome!! glad it worked for you! i try my best to explain it as detailed as possible on how i do it so others can do it. Sometimes just looking at things visually doesn't help. Because if you look at people do back tails, it just look like they slide the front foot like a regular ollie and somehow magically rotate and guide the board, but that's not the case for this. haha. definitely sliding your foot really fast towards the ledge and rotating makes it look like you just slide up like a regular ollie.
if you want to. it's really more about what you feel comfortable doing and what you want to learn. I learned fs tails the same time as bs tails. it's pretty much the same concept. so what I say in the video for bs tail applies to fs tails.i just like bs tails better :)
This is was actually really helpful. More helpful than Chaz Ortiz’s for sure. I struggled all day with this trick. Can’t wait to try these tips tomorrow 🤙🏽
Exavior Cortez much love. Glad it helps out! Haha you talking about his kickflip bs tail? Growing up skating there weren’t (and I think to this day) that many trick tips that really go into detail how to do certain tricks or the technique, etc. they just say do this, then that, and roll away. That’s why I’m planning on making more trick tips that I really dig deep into how to do certain tricks and how I was able to do it. Sort of analyzing how I do it so it’s duplicatable for everyone else. Stay tuned!
Hideaki Nomura you really should dude! Cause that’s the exact video I was talking about lol nothing about shoulder orientation, for placement. I just think the pros don’t wanna share their secrets. But really thank you man!
@@exaviorcortez1994 haha yea a lot of those trick tips just tell you make sure you have this trick and that trick and you just do it like this, etc. There needs to more tricktips with hidden gems, technique, etc. I'm probably going to do fs bluntslide next. then maybe like some cool tech tricks like kickflip bs lip, or kickflip fs board, backtail bigspin, etc. We'll see.
Bro this is an amazing trick tip and thanks for putting in the time to explain it as much as possible, 1 question, do you only turn your hips when getting into it or your whole body ? And when you say too look at your back foot, do you mean look at your heel or toes? Thanks again ❤
youre welcome! hope it helps! my shoulders stay parallel/back against the ledge/rail,etc. i do my best to not turn my shoulders at all. like what you said, my hips mostly turn. when looking at the back foot i'd say it's more the middle of the foot. i think as long as you're able to look down and be comfortable you'll get used to it. Sometimes i'm looking at the middle of the board. As you get better and better your muscle memory kicks in and youre able to get into the ledge/rail every time and you just look down at your board so that you can stay on longer, etc
@@joshb9657yea I would start slow and on a low ledge. Make sure it's not slippery starting off so you can practice fully committing getting on but not sliding. Getting on is the tricky part but once you start getting comfortable getting on you'll slide and roll away real soon 👍🏼👍🏼
I can use a tip. I can't seem to stick backtails. Everytime I land in one I either slide out and almost land on my face or I spin a full 180, so I pretty much do a backtail slappy. How do I stick it?
are you talking about something similar to what happens when i tried to do a back tail on 1:54? what do you mean by "I can't seem to stick backtails" are you talking about getting the tail to properly lock on to the tailslide? or when you do get into the backtail you can't hold it and you slip/bail out? for the slipping out situation, try to stay upright, keep your shoulders parallel, and put sort of like a downward pressure with your back foot on the tail. if possible, send me a clip of your backtail to me ( hideaki.n96@gmail.com) and maybe i could help you out more.
Hideaki Nomura Thanks man I'll do that. Yeah I'm slipping out real bad, like the moment I get in backtail I almost faceplant which in turn is messing with my commitment, I'm starting to bail out before I even get into a backtail. Actually I'm really struggling with all backside tricks except back 180s. I think I'm leaning forward to much. Can you think of anything to help with pretty much all backside tricks? Thanks again for replying and helping out that's awesome
Casey Aylward sorry for the late reply! Didn’t see this! I would say the tip for majority of backside tricks is staying upright. Of course keeping balance so you might have to lean here and there. One thing I recently started doing is imitating the motion of a trick (for example backside tail slide) with no board and no obstacle. Just flat area. Just my body. Even without the board it can be difficult to hold the position and you feel most of the weight on your back leg. That’s how you know it will take some balance and strengthening of your legs to be able to properly do it and to back tail longer.
i've been trying bs tails for past 5 years like a idiot, but i always moved my front foot towards outside the ledge, im going to learn this shit when stop rain here and came back to relate my sucess!
@@hideaki_n well, i was able to land a few on a unwaxed curb, just stalying and on a small ledge i slide some but not close to land, today im going hard again!
Rapha Gavino awesome! Yea definitely will take some time getting used to. I remember soooo many days where I spent hours each day and i can only stick into a backtail or sometimes just not getting into it at all. I remember specifically I got more and more comfortable going faster. I realized the slower I go, the quicker I have to move my feet and quickly get out. The faster I go, I don’t have to be as quick (and I slide longer) and a bit easier to get out of a backtail and land it. I also just practiced on the very end of the ledge so that it’ll force me to learn how to get out.
@@hideaki_n that is going to be really usefull, cuz i go slow to not slide or slide just a bit and its really hard to turn, going to get extra hyped and confident to go faster, thanks for the insight my man! im sure that today is gonna be the day!
Learn them stationary on a 6 inch curb. Just be parallel to the curb n pop but rotate only waist down keeping your shoulders like he said parallel Also. Very important, have your front foot set up like a kickflip almost, front foot toes ,say, an inch of grip tape showing n your back foot in the back left pocket of the tail , ( regular foot n vice versa for goofy)
thank you! much love. I saw a video of a local doing a bs noseslide in a video from 2007ish and i got inspired. I did a bs 50-50 on it and then i was like let me try a back tail and i did it. haha. definitely not easy trying to pop a bs tail that high.
So when you are using your back foot to lock in the tail on the ledge, you want to use your toes and when your on the ledges you want to continue to put pressure on the tail with your toes. So you’re back foot is “kinda” tippy toe on the tail.
a little backstory. This was filmed back in November 2016. It was cold in Chicago that day. I was wearing underarmor, a long sleeve shirt, a crewneck sweater, and a zip up jacket. The filmer wasn't bundled up as me and he was getting cold. Also this trick tip video was very spontaneous, so there was no rehearsal, no multiple takes, etc. The filmer didn't know what I was going to do/say and he just filmed what I was talking about/pointing at, etc. His hands were getting cold. we had no gloves, etc. So I admire, respect, and appreciate his effort to help me out on such a very short notice. We only planned on skating. Didn't plan on filming or making any type of videos. Support and appreciate any filmers you encounter. it's a lot of effort and patience :)
i think just getting comfortable sliding backside makes this trick a bit difficult. just gotta keep those shoulders parallel and try not to turn as much. hope it helps.
Thanks. Worked for me. That ollie towards the ledge was the key.

awesome! excited for your journey! front foot slides towards the ledge and then your toes of your back foot guides the tail into the ledge.
Very detailed tutorial, thanks for being in depth on how to actually do it haha
no problem. much love
I rocked those same kicks a while back lol nice
ayyyeee nice!!
Sick! You got those on lock! I could never do them, but I could kickflip into them.
my favorite trick. yoo what??? you can kickflip bs tail but you can't regular bs tail?? that's crazy!
I know lol it’s weird. I like your style of skating man. Steez lvl 10
