learning front boards first is what really helped me with this trick. learning & getting used to keeping your shoulders straight and awkwardly only turning your lower body, as well as sliding backwards.
I've been trying backside tailslides for months now. Get on some and roll away on occasion. Taken some of the worst slams imaginable on a ledge in all of the years i've been skating. After watching your tutorial I can say that now I still can't back tail but it looks amazing.
Actually the backside 50-50 tutorial worked out really well, at least I locked in with my front truck. The wheelbase video also helped me a lot, I love your videos. Much love from Italy.
like with any trick, pointers can only go as far as your own brain can interpret them, but this definitely provided some inspo to learn!! cant wait for my ankle to heal up so I can get out and try and lock these down
Just having good backside tailslide on ledge or flat rails is actually a very good level of skateboarding i'd like to have. And I think that we all dreamed of landing a kickflip backside tailslide one day when we started skating. Just landing it on a ledge would be amazing
This was really helpful. Trying it on curbs was definitely useful to get the motion down (and surprisingly harder than I thought it would be, haha.) Been working on this trick off and on for about a month and making progress - landed a handful that weren't so bad. This inspired me to get out and learn them. Thanks, dude!
@@squiqqlewiggles2440 funny enough I slept on it again until recently, I ended up learning a bunch of other stuff since then. I just recently learned these on curbs though, so now I just have to bring them up to actual ledges which I am working on now. Super fun and satisfying trick !
Dude if I could only do that one trick I'd be happy to do them all day! I'm 38 and haven't seriously skated since I was 26. I can barely kick flip these days.
keep at it. i got back into it too (32) after taking over a decade off. i was able to get a couple flip tricks and ledge tricks. some advice though dont go to big. i tried to ollie off a 5 foot wall and slammed. messed my ankle and knee. now i stick to low impact.

I slammed the right side of my back on the ledge I was trying, skateboarding both sucks and is awesome at the same time. Wish I had filmed it tbh, good slam!
@Ben Degros good explanation sorry for asking this, do you still running the bones bushings they are good I'm gonna get them too I've got some problems with old ones that I have keep up I really like your videos, don't stop making 'em and sorry again about my english, I'm from Brazil so still learning !!

The unwaxed curb recommendation is kind of a YYMV bit of advice. If you get too comfortable knowing you're going to stop dead, it can lead to really bad habits in terms of where your back foot and body's weight and balance are when you start trying to slide for real. And that can lead to exactly the kind of slip outs Ben shows can happen. I'm actually more of a proponent of trying it on a slightly waxed surface so you learn sooner where proper balance and weight are. On a buttered ledge learning you're going to slip and fly out a majority of the time and it'll be more tedious to find the nuance in balance because the margin of error will be so skewed toward slipping out anyhow. On something that will slide a bit with proper balance you'll know when you're right. When you're wrong, you'll stop dead or slip out a bit but nothing too severe.
have you seen mat berger's part on the etnies video "album" ?? BEST bs tail combo of life on the best spot to do it in. i wont spoil unless someone wants the hype for reason to buy that video
Hi Ben. Your back tails are so sick. I've skated the downtown plaza for the past decade but have never seen you there! Also, does your brother Ted still skate? He kinda disappeared after his amazing part in Strange Brew. Hope that your knee is better. Talk to you soon.
Thanks Mr BluntNose. Ted isn't really skating at the moment. Busy life with not much time or anyone he wants to skate with in his area. I only just started skating the plaza a bit more again. I have hardly been there in a decade so that explains why you haven't seen me. Look me up on Insta and we can go for a skate some time:)
Thanks for the reply. I moved to Auckland, New Zealand a few months ago and not sure when I'm back but will definitely let you know when I do! If you haven't done it already, I'm sure that you'd be able to back tail over the grate by that long ass ledge at plaza. I wanted to try that but had to leave Canada by the time I felt ready. Didn't help that I had to work in Nelson BC for the last 2 years. Anyways, I heard that Plaza might be torn down soon so might as well skate the hell out of it. Thanks again for your reply. Take care. Looking forward to your next video.
I was riding bronson regulars with the shields popped and a whole bunch of dirt in them. They are super slow right now. I don't really like doing bearing reviews. They make for boring content. I would say the Bronsons are good and Bones are slightly better. Bearing review done!
So my main problem is when i get in perfectly for the slide I'm not ready for it and I slip out. Trying to figure how to control the slide right now when i get in.
Finally think I figured them out. It really is a combination of speed and commitment. Landed a couple shitty ones today and will continue to work on them. Thanks for the help, Already starting to figure out the switch ones but they are so hard.
My local spot has either a small step, or the big waxed ledge, fun fact, I actually landed kickflip bs tailslide before, and now I can't even do a regular bs tailslide even without sliding, part of this is because bs flip is a trick I really locked down. But now gotta put my balls on my shoulders and bring it to the waxed ledge, feel like this trick is way more about the mindset than about the actual movement 😃
I've got them to fakie, and nollie back tail to reg, still working on getting a regular back tail slide back to reg. My heel keeps hitting and i go flying, or do a back tail stall. Any advice? Good tips Mr carpenter

Hi Evan:) There was a short window of time where I think I could have done something with my skating. Maybe from about 16 to 22. The problem was I spent that time drinking and doing drugs so I was not keeping pace with the progression of skateboarding. Also, at that time it was pretty hard to have a career in skating without doing big gaps and rails and I have never been into them. Also, I never actually quit skating but I started having kids at 25 so I was much more focused on career and family from about 25-35. I still skated but I was slowly losing my abilities over time. Lately I have been skating at my highest ability since my mid 20's so that is nice.
