thank you so much for posting this and sharing! I have been beating my head against the wall trying to figure out the best way to turn the rocks I find into beads for Christmas presents and this video pushed me over the edge to purchase the Covington bead mill!
Thanks for sharing and interesting and informative video. I think they turned out perfectly. Not being perfectly round gives them a little character. Looking forward to seeing what you add to that contraption next. Take care and be safe.
Thanks Clayton. I was thinking the same thing about the somewhat odd shapes. If I were smart, next up would probably be agate. But I am really thinking it might be nice to do silver.
That is so cool that they have a rock machine like that had no idea that there were rock machines that did that awesome thanks for showing this meMiner
I loved your video. Years ago I bought a huge used Chinese bead mill from an inclinometer factory in Ohio, to this day I've never run a batch through it. It needs so many blanks, it might have room for over a hundred beads per batch. Your video has really inspired me to try and fire it up again 🙄
Interesting machine and seems to working good. Very good thing that you warned about cutting the rocks, because I skipped that part because of being afraid you losing the fingers. I once heard one person using washing machine just by making RPM much slower and filling it with sand and just but rough gems inside and it would take days or weeks for them to be ball shaped. Never seen the result or the machine how he customized it, but sure hope seeing someday. Sorry for bad english/typos and shit.
Hey Vault. Great comment. When I was young, I used to check in boil holes on creeks - - where the bedrock had a rock get caught and it circled round and round until it made a perfectly round boil hole. Sometimes inside the boil hole was a perfectly round sphere of something hard like quartz.
If we are speaking of same thing, I think those are from ice age back when ice mass were moving over the land and that is how those holes were born. So it makes sense when ice has been moving rocks and hard material eats softer rock and ends up being sphere inside the hole.
Wow awesome wish I had money to get in go all that I love that Jasper I named one of my dogs jasper! Never really saw Jasper before you just showed it. I hear heaven as Jasper it's a precious stone... great broadcast! I wants sime! ♡

Just wow! How frickin cool is that machine! So awesome. Thanks for going through the process... great vid mate 👍 They’re pretty and would look really nice in a bowl on a bookshelf or counter for guests to enjoy looking at. oh and thanks for making me want even more machines to play with!!! The list is ever growing! 😂🤣😂
Thank you for teaching what a bead mill is and how it works. I suppose, to make smaller beads, you would have another drum with a smaller channel?......how long from start to finish once the rocks are precut?
Same drum for small beads, just more of them. The time it takes will depend on a number of factors, especially the hardness of the rock, how round they are at the start and how close in size they are. This run took me about 3 hours (2 with coarse grit and 1 with fine).
That was great. I thought the machine was going to take off into outer space there at first till you added the weights. They turned out really pretty even though their in shapes of kidney beans. If drilled the long way will make for a beautiful necklace I can see adding Pearl's spaced out with them as a knotted piece. Necklace.
❤after watching your tube several times, those garnets really need perfectly drilled large holes which would make an awesome garnet (Knotted) bracelet and necklace with the leather or something on that order to show the gemstone beads off. Give them the recognition they deserve, be worn proudly...k🐶
I will wait to drill until I have a press. I think my first attempt will be to stick the bead into hot wax in a half burned tea candle. Then fill it back up with water. That way the drill bit stays cool and won't break the rock. At least, that is the plan.
Wow! They came out great. How inspired of you to give the BIF rocks a try. I haven't seen anything like that around me (upstate New York, US). I've just started the hobby, in my dotage at 61 years old, and so far I've only scanned some gravel piles, and roadsides. Picked up some "pretty rocks", but trying to learn what's what. I have to do some research and find out where to find the finds, lol!
I am not far behind you in age. However, still think I am 30. LOL There are some good collecting spots in your area. For some, you will need to be a member of a club, but that is cheap and you will be with like minded people.
I would think the varying difference is size would cause the smaller ones to come out less round. Its seems like its about the pressure from the top/bottom grinding them as they roll. Less or no pressure= less grinding. I could be wrong. With enough time, does it usually just grind down to the smallest size?
No more noisy than a hay wagon on steel wheels (Amish country). But the wagon doesn't take 3 days to pass. It just goes by every bloody day! 😁 Looking into getting my first tumbler and I find this? Thanks man! 😉
Mindig kiváncsi voltam, hogy készűl az ásványból a golyó. Van ásvány karkötőm nem tudtam sehol megnëzni a készítését. Most láttam, köszönöm a videót!:-)
