    There are some times I will have to use my vehicle as a self-defense device and need a quick easy way to shut off the automatic braking function so I can get out of the danger zone ASAP, this video is a lifesaver, hopefully, I never need to use that button, but you never know, and it is better to know this earlier before you indeed need to use it and become panic, thanks Steve!

    I'm really glad to find this video. That auto stop is dreadful. I live in a small town and while driving around, the car is CONSTANTLY stopping/ If I had now about this feature, I would not have purchased the car. I test drive it on a highway where the dealer ship us located. Never been so irritated by a car before.

    In relation to my earlier comment about the Pre Collision System, PCS, being very intrusive and kicking in, after driving the Grand Highlander for the last 2 weeks I realized that what was causing the intrusive braking was in fact the PDA, Pro Active Driving Assist. And fortunately that can be turned off and it does not come on by default on a re-start. So I have now set the PCS to it's lowest level, turned off the PDA and my Grand Highlander is the perfect driving machine!! The reason that I initially blamed the PCS is that the PDA is something I had never come across before and the Toyota literature does not explain that the PDA can activate your brakes when you are a good 100 feet away from the vehicle in front of you. Anyway, all's well that ends well!!

    • @TrainerSteveClifford

      Glad that got figured out. The PDA is a bit intrusive and it doesn’t come on from the factory for that reason

    I just bought a 2018 Sienna, EXL and honestly, the 'safety features', in my opinion, are a threat to safe driving. I would like to see Toyota offer a software option with NONE of these features, including a way to physically electronically disconnect any way for the system to brake, turn or accellerate the vehicle on it's own. That override, to me, is insanity. Just pushng 'off' settings does not give me piece of mind as all computers can fail or be hacked. I'd like the systems removed - otherwise, I love the vehicle. Thank you for the tip on the PCS. We live in weird and dangerous times. I want my wheels in my control, not a programmers.

    Thank you so much! I want this thing off. I don't want to go through road construction or dirt road and have to stop to turn it off. I hate going through the menus each time I use my car. I want to be in full control of my car and I don't understand why Toyota thinks it should interfere with my driving and then impose any risk to me if there is a collision. We should have the option to disable these things indefinitely. Same thing with the camera system to detect signs: I put a sticky on my laptop's camera and I have duct tape on my Toyota. I value my and others' privacy.

    Auto-braking in reverse is triggered all the time when I have a bike on a rack. It's VERY dangerous! And I hate having my car jerk me around. However, disabling PCS doesn't work well on my '24 Highlander. I turned off PKSB and this is working so far, AND it doesn't reset to default when the car power is cycled off and on.

    I have a 2024 Prius Prime. The PCS is triggered by road curvature, not just the car in front of you. It’s also triggered by cars and especially trucks in adjacent lanes. It drops the speed down more than 10mph below the speed limit for road curvature only! And that’s on a. Major CA freeway - interstate 5. This is a major unsafe system that I must fight every time I go through curves like through Shasta. Disable the PCS and you lose speed control! Reducing sensitivity helps, but only slightly. Press the accelerator slightly and the car surges. Brake, surge, brake, surge and that with no other traffic. This is a major hazard that needs to be corrected before there’s a class action suit. Steve - that’s why your site is getting so much attention.

    • @TrainerSteveClifford
      @TrainerSteveClifford  4 месяца назад

      What you’re describing is not PCS. It is proactive driver assist and it is very intrusive. It can allay be turned off. In fact, the car is shipped with it off and it requires an effort in a menu to turn it on. Dive into the menu and find “PDA” and turn it off. Leave the rest on and drive as normal.

    Thanks for this video. Just got a new Grand Highlander and the PCS braking is very intrusive even in it's most benign setting so much so that you can do one pedal driving in the city and it engages without any prior warning, audible or on the instrument cluster. Toyota should tone it down, I go through the painful process of disabling it every time I start up.

    • @TrainerSteveClifford
      @TrainerSteveClifford  8 месяцев назад

      If it’s kicking in often, you really should evaluate how you’re driving quite honestly. Here’s another video on this subject: ruclips.net/video/mXV7WtqEB4c/видео.htmlsi=qFoFDmKRYNmjphGE

      I drove a GMC Yukon for the last 9 years and it's pre collision system was a high pitched audible warning with a piercing red light that shone directly into the driver's eyes from the instrument cluster. That warning came in when it was clear that there would be a collision and I never felt the need to turn it off, because it warned me when it was really necessary. In contrast the Toyota system cuts in very early and it brakes the vehicle without any other prior warning and can startle people. I really think that the calibration should be made less aggressive.@@TrainerSteveClifford

      Not necessarily. It's a crap system for people who can't drive. It made me have a crash not long ago. Was doing an emergency stop in the rain and was easily going to stop when my car decided to slam on the breaks. Now I slid right into the guy in front. I should be able to charge Toyota for the damage.
      Without that crappy system it would of been fine.@@TrainerSteveClifford

    Thanks for this, but it didn't work on my 2004 Sienna. I was stopped and in park in my driveway, held the traction control up to 10 seconds, tried multiple times. The traction control turned off, but not the PCS. Maybe disconnecting a sensor will get me by.
    I just got the car yesterday. I had two episodes of phantom braking on my way home with it. Fortunately there were no other vehicles around me. Now I'm scared to drive it! First time it happened I was chugging along with cruise control at 45 MPG and winding road. After that time, I turned off the cruise and continued to drive. It happened again about 15 minutes later, this time on a straight stretch of road. Again nobody around me (front or back) and no dear, pedestrians or other reasons I could see that would have caused it. I'm assuming some bad sensor somewhere, the front bumper and windshield sensor are clean. I had driven it about 2 hours without issue before these events. These events happened at night, not sure if any of the sensors involved behave differently at night.

    I bought a 2024 4Runner two weeks ago, and I got into a left turning lane and wanted to be sure I hit the sensor for the traffic light so it would know another car was in the lane.... and while doing so there was a car in front of me fully stopped. So , I was rushing into the lane. Now, I know I would have had no problem stopping in time, but the car ON IT'S OWN locked up the brakes. It was very surprising, and if there was a car behind me it would have hit the back of my car. So, in my view, this brake assist is very dangerous.

As sick as other sensors on Bumpers front and back....what happened to Design Engineers? The Stupid Gene. Wake up America - notify car companies - but they now do not even allow emails because that is to easy to contact with complaints.
