@Steve. Great video! After trying a ton of things I’ve been unsuccessful on adding a second profile. I thought after watching your video I had it. Sadly no. I’ve followed your steps like you and Jimmy up to the point that it sends a code to Jimmies phone. Unfortunately we don’t see Jimmies phone so I don’t know if what’s happening on my second phone is the same. What I do is it displays a code with an OK button, like yours, and sends the code to the new phone with a button that says PAIR. I tap PAIR on the phone and OK on the display and this is where yours and my experience differ and it’s the fail point for me. Yours goes to the Set as Primary User screen to which you say NO. Mine goes directly to the Use CarPlay screen and doesn’t offer the critical Set as Primary Driver screen that leads to searching for a detected profile and finds Jimmy. Mine just adds the device but not profile even when I try search for it.
Any chance you can help with what it takes to get the Set as Primary Driver screen on the display?
UPDATE: I finally was able to create and save a second profile. The trick for me, which wasn’t provided in the video is that the second person needs to have their own Toyota account with their email, phone and password. Then log into the app with those credentials and don’t add a vehicle. The personal profile in the app will have the second persons profile info. Then after adding the device…I still didn’t get the Set as Primary Device screen, but after it was added and I searched for detected profiles it found hers. YEAH! From there it was the pin creation process which is launched by tapping the detected profile. Once a pin was set in the app and you tapped the detected profile, you enter the pin and voila in now asks if you want to save it. Say yes and you now have a second saved profile.

Does the 2nd Bluetooth device have the Toyota app on that phone with a DIFFERENT account logged in? If you're sharing a Toyota app account, you can't have a 2nd profile. The most confusing part of all of this is realizing that there are three different types of connections one can have with the vehicle. There's the Toyota app account, a profile, and a Bluetooth device. If you're sharing the app account, you can have multiple Bluetooth devices connected but there will only be one profile. If each person has their own Toyota app account, you can have multiple profiels loaded into the car but only one of you has the remote start and location features. Does that make sense? If it doesn't, send me an e-mail at steveclifford@sheehy.com and I'll give you my phone number and I'll see if I can walk you through it.

Thank you so much for this. One thing that I cannot determine with 100% certainty is whether the car (2024 Tundra in my case) should automatically detect (and switch) the profile based on whose phone (primary / secondary user) connects to the system first. Right now it does not appear to be the case; on startup the profile that is recalled is the last one that was active. To switch profiles, I have to access the Settings page, choose the desired profile, enter PIN and switch to the (current) user (if it is not the last one who used the car). I thought the manual said something about automatic detection...

Steve, I spent an hour on the phone with Toyota support and 30 minutes getting blank stares from my dealer. I have tried on profile for 2 people but that limits radio presets to one set. I next tried 2 profiles but only the primary has access to connect subscriptions like Remote Connect.
We are a 2 Toyota family and ideally I’d like to seamlessly swap cars by just changing profile upon entry ( with Profile ID ) and each person have connect services regardless of vehicle.
Is this possible? If so, I would appreciate any feedback / suggestions

@@jonmichael3959 Yes and no. You should be able to have both profiles recognized but understand that the profile only sets things like radio stations, dash preferences and seat positions. If you’re talking about the remote features like finding the car and remotely starting it, no, you can’t do that with multiple app accounts. • @pinecone76

I was under the same exact impression after reading the manual. Right now, it does not seem to work like that and the car always loads the last used profile. To switch, you have to go to Settings, and manually switch to the desired profile, and enter PIN as part of the process. Not sure we could skip the PIN entering but at least I wish on startup the new profile (if detected based on the user's phone connection) would load up and prompt for the PIN.

My question is it even worth it to setup the Toyota app if you’ll have to pay for the service after the trial period? All I would be interested in is the remote start and keyless use of the vehicle, but I’m not going to pay for it after the trial.

    • @TrainerSteveClifford
      @TrainerSteveClifford  2 месяца назад +1

It is worth it for two reasons. First, you get a 10 year trial to "Safety Connect" which is 24 hour roadside assistance, stolen vehicle assistance and airbag notification (notified rescue if the airbags deploy). The other reason is that the remote start still works on your key fob after the trial ends as long as you never declined the data services. I have a video on how that works.

Getting that second profile up for the first time is glitchy. You probably already did this, but make sure her phone has the Toyota app open and on the front screen the first time you do this. Once it detects her, you should be good. If you’ve already done that, a trip to the dealer is in order but it shouldn’t cost anything. If the service advisor gives you any problem, ask for the service director and tell him you want his shop supervisor to do a “DPR” or dealer product report. This is a report that is done when things just don’t work right and is directed to the engineers at Toyota. We’re supposed to do at least one of these a month so the dealer should be glad to do it once you get to the right people.

I tried (per directions in the manual) holding the L1 memory button at the same time as the door lock button with only my fob in the truck and no go. Each profile has a fob linked to it. I know (think?) the fobs are linked properly because I can check that my fob unlocks all doors and my wife’s only unlocks the drive door.

CarPlay use actually doesn't have anything to do with a profile, VIN or app account. You can simply add his "device" in the Bluetooth menu and toggle on the CarPlay. If you already paired his phone but it doesn't show the CarPlay option, go to his phone and hit the little blue "I" button. There will be a button there to turn on CarPlay. You do need to have Siri active as well which is in another setting on your phone but I think when you turn on CarPlay that it takes you to that.

I completely agree! How is it so bad? My friend with her Kia got out her phone, checked the car was locked and turned on the heated seats.
My app can't even tell what percent the battery is at reliably 😮😂

I had to do a system reset because QRCode would not come up after renewing my Remote Connect.
Had to visit this video again as a result because this is a freaking disaster.

Yeah, this is still very confusing and I have had no success. The dealer I bought the car from doesn't know how it works and so only tells me "You can't do that" when I ask for help in getting my linked as the secondary driver. This is the first new car I've purchased in over 17 years, but I've worked with a lot of different types of software/ cellular network devices in other industries, and I am virtually certain that something like this does not need to be this complicated. It is really a shame because everything else about the car is great.

@@hughhawley3169 are you trying to add a “profile” or trying to add a second person to the remote features in the app?

@@TrainerSteveClifford Trying to add a profile, so that when she gets in and starts the car, it remembers her settings (including seat, steering wheel, and mirrors). She's not interested in the remote features. I just spent some time getting her a separate toyota app login (the dealer had us log into the same account on our two different phones). We got her profile added (this is a 2024 Land Cruiser), got her face recognized, and thought we linked her key. When she gets in and starts the car, the infotainment screen shows that it recognizes her profile, but the seat/mirrors/steering wheel remain where I had set them (I'm making sure my key and cellphone are left in the house when she gets in the car).
Because the dealer told me I could "send her the digital key," I tried that a day or so ago and that seems to have caused some issue as well. Now, when either my phone and toyota app are open, or hers, the app has a button for "connect digital key to vehicle." I try to do it with my phone in the car, and it just sits there in the "connecting digital key" screen.
Any help you can provide is much appreciated!

I tried this with my wifes Iphone and after 30 minutes it failed. I probably will have to go back to the dealer which I hate doing. Way too complicated.

If you haven't set a PIN, go into the app and click the account icon (upper right corner). Click "account". Click "security settings" and then "reset PIN". You'll need to have a PIN in order to switch between profiles.
