I wonder why Windows 8.1 requires 260MB but 10 requires less than 200MB, and 11 can boot up on even less than that. If you remove a ton of components and stuff WIndows 8.1 would probably boot on less than 100MB ram. I know Windows 11 can, I got that on 108MB.
The ramdisk error is due to 8.1's automatic repair trying to trigger, but obviously not working due to insufficient memory. Just an FYI, if you see "Please Wait", IMMEDIATELY reboot. Windows will normally boot then.
I'm upgrading a hellhole of a Toshiba from 2 gigs to 6 gigs because Windows 10 is a shit OS (for the lower-end devices) and the needed files for it to boot properly are corrupted. thanks 4 this vid. 👍
you might be able to get 256 mb of ram and lower working, the 2nd time you tried 256 it was going into windows recovery which creates a ramdisk in order to work, aka the worst thing ever for low ram. Just press enter to retry booting and itll try going into actual windows. Also when u get a bsod, keep trying, with extremely low ram results can be random where sometimes it succesfully boots and sometimes not.
what version of Vmware have u got? i have vmware workstation pro 17 and bc i was a vmware user since vmware 6.0 they made the lifetime key for me just for 20$ and couldn't resist but pay
What I’m thinking it’s using your processor and/or GPU instead of the RAM you have allocated so that’s why it runs fine, of course in the advanced settings you could change this if they have the option to or emulate it instead. Hoe this helps
Actually quite interesting, Enderman got Windows 11 on 176MB I think which was surprising, 8.1 is definitely odd
