The most interesting thing about the SOS on all the ships is that The SOS is almost instant in 3 of them, but the one that takes the longest to SOS is Vah Medoh, Revali's Divine Beast. It really feels like it was held to show Revali's pride in not wanting to call for help, but also when it does appear it is the loudest and easiest to hear of all of them.
Could've also been that Revali put up the longest fight, considering he was the fastest of the bunch and probably would've been able to dodge a lot more of Ganon's attacks than the others. Daruk strikes me as the kind of guy who would just attempt to tank the hits. Mipha was more of a healer than a straight up fighter and would be put on the defensive right away. Urbosa was an experienced fighter, but she wasn't as fast as Revali or as durable as Daruk.
Revali's is also at the fastest tempo, making it come across as the most desperate; he was overconfident, and likely sent the signal moments before his death.
Birds can’t see at night or in the rain. It was night when he got to Vah Medoh. The sun was going down by the time Zelda came down Mount Lanayru and he had to fly over half way across the continent so I can only imagine how long that took. And plus, Revali was likely the last to get to his Divine Beast since he would have had to go around the castle to avoid being shot down. So part of it might have been that he was prideful but it could have been he saw the other divine beasts fall and realized he was the last of all the Champions but still held out hope that Zelda and Link would succeed somehow. He didn’t last the longest. He held out hope that they were still alive and coming to help but he realized they weren’t that’s when he heard their signals for help. He was likely trying to get to the castle but the Blight killed him before he could get into range and he probably didn’t want to risk bringing the blight near Rito Village if he landed. So uh, not a dis but his actions make sense for his situation, since he was the only one out of all the Champions that could see the other Divine beasts. And I say this cuz the battle happened in the air, on the back of the divine beast where as the others happened either inside or in Daruk’s case, in the cauldron of death Mountain so he really had zero clue of the state of the other Champions. Another interesting thing, the order that the Champions got to the divine beasts was likely, Mipha first, since the river was just down that valley to the east of Kakariko and Daruk had to go through Kakariko but got to Rudania after Mipha. Then Urbosa since she likely went by horseback and finally Revali because he had to avoid The Citadel and Central Hyrule so he had a very small opening. Yeah anyway I’m done rambling
@@rottentreegremlin5126 There are several potential problems with your theory. I believe there's absolutely no way Urbosa got all the way down to the Gerudo desert on horseback before Revali flew across to the west. As the crow flies, it's only a little closer from the Lanayru East Gate to the Gerudo Desert as it is from Lanayru to Rito Village. Urbosa can't travel in a straight path, she has to take the roads that twist and turn around mountain ranges, and you just can't ride a horse hard for that far. That means her distance to travel is roughly the same as Revali's, but Revali is far faster and can create his own updrafts to allow him to maintain speed in a glide. The second problem is that you're assuming that the champions left their divine beasts back home, all the way across the continent. How do we know that this is the case? Just because they are at their specific locations 100 years later doesn't mean that's where they were when the champions fell. For all we know, they might've already been using their beasts for transportation and had them nearby at all times, considering that they were expecting the return of Ganon at any moment. It would be silly to be all the way across the known world from your greatest weapons against Ganon at the moment of his return. Just as the king demanded Zelda focus on her prayers, he likely demanded that the champions remain close to their divine beasts. The third problem is that we're talking about ancient sheikah technology, which has shown the ability to teleport its users across distances. The sheikah slate and travel medallion both grant teleportation, and I would find it very odd if the sheikah didn't build the same technology into such large mechanical monstrosities as the divine beasts. Considering that they were specifically built to fight Ganon, you'd expect that they were able to be manned quickly in response to a threat.
In addition to the last thing: The SOS comes in different points in the themes. Daruk’s is far into it, as he is selfless and wants people to help the others. Mipha’s is near the start, as she quickly realises she needs help. Urbosa’s is somewhere in the middle, as she puts up a good fight. Lastly, we have Ravioli, who sends his out near the end, because he be cocky. He only sends it out as 1. It’s night, meaning he’s cold. 2. Rito don’t have night vision, so he probably couldn’t see Windblight. 3. It’s raining, which dampens his flight abilities.
This is an awesome explanation. I can definitely see each Champion sending out a “SOS” signal at certain part in their theme. What really hit me the most was Revali”s. Yes-he’s cocky-but in the end he realizes that he needs help. Edit: I took the time to listen to all the four divine beast dungeon themes, and wow. It’s depressing seeing them all call for help. Mipha signal is very VERY frantic. Urbosa and Daruk were in desperate need of help as well. I don’t know Morse Code, but I feel like Urbosa code was getting “talked” over by the other Morse Code in her theme. Like Urbosa was sending “SOS” while Ganon was sending “SAD” to overpower her message? Daruk code was a bit faint. It was difficult hearing his message. Then of course Revali theme is interesting as well. He sent his message a little later than the others. Maybe Revali knew thing aren’t going to well for him, so he message for help. Later on in Revali’s theme I keep hearing this high frequency/note. As of now I think it might be a scream/inner thought that he’s is not going to make it. I didn’t really like Revali at first because of his extreme confidence, but after looking into his background and divine beast theme-I now understand how scare he was when fighting Wingblight Ganon. He has my respect.
Nice explanation, just one problem with Revali. He can't be cold because he literally lives in the hebra region, and he's been shown to withstand the cold climate. Also, birds that can fly have waterproof feathers. Because if they didn't we'd be seeing a lot of walking pigeons and stuff like that during the rain.
Fun fact: in the Japanese version, Bolson, Karson, and Hudson are Sakurada, Katsurada and Enokida. So accordingly, the company's convention would be to only hire people whose names end with "-da." Technically that would make a certain princess a very good candidate. Edit: thanks for the likes! I always think it would actually be funny if this is a plot point in the sequel, even though it probably won’t be.
In the German version, they only hire people whose names end on -a. So while playing through for the first time I actually thought that Zelda could join if she wanted to.
if we ever have a another majoras mask type of game where we enter a different world with characters out of place. i would love to see carpenter zelda in there
Zeltik: *Lists all of these fascinating lore tidbits and secrets* Me: "Wow, this game is amazing" Zeltik: "Also you can use R to make sharp turns while shield surfing." Me: "WHAT-"
There is something you may missed in the Morse code secret. Some have said that there is Morse code for S A D, or more specifically Search-And-Destroy. That could be a message from Ganon to the Blights, telling them to kill the Champions.
I don’t remember which divine beast it was from, but I heard somewhere it was from Daruk, because he was SAD that he failed his mission, and most importantly, he failed others.
It could also be him sending that signal in his attempt to gain control of the divine beasts himself. The two differing signals show that it was a struggle for power over the beasts.
Search and destroy isn't really a term used in morse code, and it is actually shortened to S&D, plus Ganon would have no need to send morse code to the blights since they are already extensions of himself
This -- search and destroy, or seek and destroy. If you listen with headphones, SOS and SAD always come from different speakers, and often concurrently. I take this to indicate two different origins of the Morse codes; the dying hero requesting Link's aid and the Blight being activated to hunt the hero.
Really adds a sense of sadness the next time you play through doesn’t it, the emptiness of Hyrule and the shattered remains of homes, which the music portrays beautifully, really appreciate the details the more I’ve learned the stories. What I thought was a pretty light hearted Zelda game turned out to be very dark below the surface.
one of my favourite details about tarrey town is the way the music changes - when you first arrive, the main theme can be heard, but as people from each of the races arrive you can hear little sections of the music from each of their hometowns (goron city, rito village, zora's domain, gerudo town). it's a small detail and it's difficult to notice if you're not listening for it (the goron music is the easiest to hear in my opinion) but it's absolutely fantastic
Some easter eggs I noticed (& others may have too) are: - Drak at the Northern Mine talks like Biggoron - The Daybreaker is meant to reflect the Gerudo symbol - If you pull out the Master Sword with full weapon inventory, a new & PERMANENT slot will be created for it - When you Riju's diary, in her bedroom up stairs, you find out that her real first name is Makeela - The Flamebreaker Helm has cloth at the top that's tied up. That's to reflect how Gorons have a little hair that they tie up like sumos do
The specific Master Sword slot, isn't an Easter egg. I noticed you gain an extra, free slot, even when you don't have room for another weapon, and/or only have a few inventory slots, used up. Just sayin'.
Okay, the SOS fact sent chills down my spine. I can imagine all four of the champions frantically sending those out, in a desperate call and need for backup to rescue them from their impending doom. But nobody came…
What's scary is that Link WAS on his way to save them but the Blights were too smart and were quick and cunning and off'd them all in the span of probably a few minutes to a few hours tops. (because Revali had the most staminia because he's a bird.
A couple of things i discovered (i'm not sure if they are well known by now) When you find a Korok puzzle that requires you to replace a missing stone in a stone patern if you walk in a straight line from the centre of the puzzle towards the direction of the missing stone in the patern and just keep walking in that direction it will always lead you to the missing stone. The other thing i found was that if you are at a stable when it starts to rain Beedle will always return to the stable to seek shelter from it. If you stand in the middle of the entrance and block him from getting in he walks in little circles trying to get in but eventually, he gives up and goes and sits by the fire that's been extinguished by the rain looking rather sorry for himself. He's not clever enough to try the other entrance :)
What I find the most impressive about Breath of the Wild isn't that people still talk about it today, but the fact there are _still_ things to discuss that a lot of us didn't know. You've come up with things in older games that many people didn't know as well, but considering how well covered Breath of the Wild is, it's truly incredible there is still more to learn.
With the last fact there's actually another morse code message along with the SOS if you listen which goes ... .- -.. or SAD which some people said stands for search and destroy which is probably being sent by the calamity to the blights. The SAD even ends up drowning out or overlapping the SOS in each theme in the end like the blights eventually defeating each champion.
I remember learning about the SOS detail a couple of years back and remember being blown away by that little detail. The music for the divine beasts are amongst my favourite in the zelda series. Each one is a unique to the beast and most importantly perfectly adds the correct atmosphere for the drama of that divine beast. I also love the detail of the SOS signals coming at different times in the music as it appropriately suits each champion. The fact the signal was calling for 100 years, waiting for link to answer, adds to the darker tone
@@west3Dgaming actually he does not! i was bored one day and was trying to make him do it a couple times and once it hit like 5am, which is what i believe morning is for this game, he stopped doing it! its a very interesting detail
I believe the SOS in the Vah Medoh music comes far later in the music than the other Divine Beasts, reflecting how stubborn Revali was in waiting until he called for help.
Here's a small, weird thing I've never seen anyone really point out: That Moblin/Bokoblin pair at Akkala Citadel that spend _all their time_ yelling at a dead, decayed Guardian corpse. This is honestly the strangest and most pointless behavior I've ever seen a Monster do, and the only thing to change it is distract them so they come after you or investigate you if you're wearing Majora's Mask. If there is something more to this, I'd like to know about it!
@HotShotPro 07 Yep. I've also noticed a bit of an inconsistency with Guardians and Bokoblins. Bokoblins are often _terrified_ of flying Guardians, yet seem calm enough when a regular Guardian is within range, like at that ranch near Hyrule Castle (those two on horseback) or in one of the nearby towns (another on horseback).
Hi i got a small theory, maybe the guardian killed or destroyed something/someone and they are simply mad at him, and they probably comfortable cuz they saw ganon take them over
I noticed that the Bokoblins are terrified of flying gaurdians too. We all know that they are possessed by Ganon's Malice but what if on some level a Bokoblin regains it's awareness for a few moments and realizes what is happening to the Land...yea you would freak out and panic toio it you knew that you are possessed by Ganon and you have no control over your body. lol
Man, I've known about the morse code SOS thing for ages, but still every time it gets brought up again I get chills. One of the saddest details and really changes my perception of entering the divine beasts again on a new playthrough. Can't wait for BOTW2 to rip my heart out all over again!
About the pools of malice: I think the loading screen tip does actually refere to the goopy malice we find in game. Pure malice would look more like what we see in the BOTW 2 trailers, but what we see in BOTW looks more solid, and it would make sense if that's what happens if malice comes into contact with water. The "pools of malice" are most likely exactly what we see in-game.
I never noticed the birds thing, though there was at least one point while I was on a beach and saw a flock of birds, and remembering how in Wind Waker birds swarmed around Big Octos, went to check it out, and did eventually find a shrine.
I knew all except for that last one. The last makes sense when you think about it because each time we heard the music of the divine beasts each song sounded similar. So, the champions have been crying for help for over a 100 years. That’s just sad especially Revali. As for someone who didn’t need help or didn’t think Link was able to make up there without wings, just hearing divine beast vah medoh, it sounded like a desperate cry for help.
The SOS Fact at the end still gives me the chills when someone points that out and isolates the actual sounds. I never realised this when I played through the game and I had headphones in for the most part of my playthrough.
_I had no idea about the hidden SOS calls, too cool! So each champion's final moments were spent fighting an indomitable foe & sending out an unanswered call for help, absolutely heart-wrenching_ _BOTW's storytelling may be minimal & nuanced but it is there_
If I find something in this video that I truly don't know I'll be amazed at the amount of digging you've done. Edit: The secret at the very end of the video, no spoilers, was actually mind blowing. I realized it at first from the sound as I'd studied Morse code back when I was in middle school. All in all a great video. Some stuff I knew, others I didn't and I can still say I'm impressed.
I seem to remember that the Vah Medoh SOS comes far later in the music as well, indicating how stubborn Revali was in waiting until he called for help.
Hearing the music in the background of Impa's monologue at the beginning of the game has overlapping versions of the dragon's theme, the inside shrine theme, and divine beast theme. It sounds great together as it seems like it's scrambled and overlapping, but finds resolve after Ganon's theme is played with the game theme. Loads of music to be shoved into a span of 3 minutes or so.
I've heard the SOS theory before, but I was never actually able to identify the dots and dashes in the soundtrack; however, the visual cues you added helped me to finally hear the Morse code behind the music. Thanks for that!
The circling birds might be a reference to the seagulls in Majora’s Mask which circle over Mikau and the enterance to the Gerudo Pirates Fotress. Thanks for the epic video Zeltik!
Windwaker also has seagulls circling over big octos. I never actually put together until now that flocks of birds to mark secrets is a tradition and now I'm wondering if similar things are present in the other games as well.
@@TheKabuto90 Awesome! I’m yet to play windwaker so I didn’t realise it was a recurring element of the Zelda series. Thanks for sharing this information 😁
The Morse code one is the one I didn't know even though I did pay attention at the sound, they were in different positions in the theme of each one too. Honestly I'm so freaking hype for the sequel, I have to pay way more attention to every detail than I did in BotW.
There is another shrine based mechanic the game doesn't tell you about. If you move the cursor over a shrine you've visited on your sheikah slate, it will show if you collected all the treasure chests with a chest icon next to the name. If it's not there, then you haven't found all the loot.
Wow, I did not want this video to end. You‘re one of the very few people who manage to upload amazing and new BOTW content almost 5 years after its release. And kudos to Nintendo for adding all that detail into the game!
the S.O.S. one is creepy and sad. i love 7 secrets videos you put out because even if i knew or noticed some of the things you mention i quickly forgot them moving on to another game, so it's always interesting hearing about them again or learning about new ones.
It's funny because in the French version their names are very different and all end with the sound "ieh" for Sérasieh and Grosallieh who hire Mohrtieh (which is an homonym for "mortar" in French), Kornuieh (which is almost the homonym for French horse race) and Pervieh (which is almost the homonym of the word "épervier" meaning sparrowhawk then since it's a bird I let you guess who is this character ahah)
And I forgot to explain Sérasieh that sounds very close to "Cerisier" (= cherry tree) and Grosallieh that sounds very close to "Groseiller" (= currant bush)
@@Nicolas-lz6pg oh j'aime bien moi les sons en "ieh" c'est original ! C'est clair dans la version française les jeux de mots sont géniaux et même dans pokémon on a les meilleurs jeux de mots dans les noms
I knew about some of the carpenters references and the tiny octorok on the trousers, but I never knew about the others. It's insane how many little things are in this game. That final detail in the video also broke my heart a little, such a sad yet incredible detail.
Kudos man, while there are a ton of botw secrets/trivia/10-things-you-didn't-know etc, But this vid actually had info in the others didn't and stuff that was new to me. After all these years it's still cool to see new stuff emerge.
Zeltik had an SOS video explaining this a couple of years ago. I sent it to my sisters and BIL because it straight gave me chills. And then the video was taken down and I never knew why. I’m glad to see it mentioned here again. I do wish all four divine beasts calls were included here instead of just the two. Seriously, though, I love your channel and content.
I think the little tiny unnecessary details like the SOS noises and the design of doors similar to A Link to the Past is what makes this an amazing game. So subtle but it adds a lot of depth to the situation or the lore of the series.
Also, in Vah Medoh, the SOS code is the last to appear, as Revali probably didn't want to admit at first that he needed help, but eventually called out for it. Imagine calling for help just once in your whole life, because you never truated anybody, and when you do, it goes unanswered... for 100 years at least
As far as game play, here's a few things I discovered that may not be too well know: The blood moon guy, at the stable by twin peaks, will run in circles during a blood moon. Climb in the rain. You will get just about 5 'climbs' before he slips. Jump just after you count 4 and he will slide back down a bit, but you make progress. It is way better than just waiting it out. Easy Hinox kill, make him follow you, when he reaches the end of his range, he will stop and act like he cannot see you. Shoot him in the eye, take a few wacks, run back and repeat. I found this with the one by the goron climbing challenge. Run east toward Akalla tech lab (there's a trail) and he will stop and look around. One of the Hinox digs up explosive barrels and throws them at you! I was like “what the hell is exploding.” Then I watched him reach down into the ground and pull up a red barrel!
Something that really makes the SOS fact a little more heart wrenching for me is the fact that they had to know, even when sending the message out that no one would reach them. Link and Zelda would have been either at the castle or running for Fort Hateno/Kakariko on foot, so there was no way Link would be able to get to any of them. And unless the Divine Beasts were relatively near each other when the Calamity happened, there’s no way any of the Champions could have reached each other in time either. Even Revali wouldn’t have been fast enough, not with how damn big BotW Hyrule is. And thinking about it, it’s even more heart-twisting to consider the SOS with the context of what the Slate allows Link to do and the final reward of the Champions’ Ballad. At the time of the Calamity, there were no towers active and apparently the Shrine of Resurrection was the only shrine active. Which means there was no teleporting available to them, they didn’t even know for sure that was even a genuine feature of the Slate (according to Rhoam’s dialogue in the tutorial; which incidentally makes you question how the hell Zelda knew anything about the towers or Maz Koshia’s trial in order to tell Link where to go. If she knew anything about those pre-Calamity, why didn’t she tell the Champions/Link/Purah? And if she didn’t, how the heck did she learn about them while being sealed with Calamity Ganon?). Teleporting would have likely saved them, but they didn’t have that. And barring that the Master Cycle Zero (apparently meant to be the Fifth Divine Beast, probably in conjunction with the Shrine of Resurrection) could have potentially allowed Link to get Zelda to safety and allowed him to reach at least one of the Champions to help (not a guarantee, but the potential is there). Heck, I’ve read a few potential theories that the SoR + MCZ could have been meant to be a central teleport/communication/healing hub for all the Divine Beasts which would have been game changing (pun intended). There are a lot of potential implications of just how differently the Calamity could have played out if a fully functional Slate and Link’s Divine Beast had been available then. The SOS messages just remind me of that every time I hear them and it hurts every time. (Btw, I love your content, definitely my favorite Zelda content creator on RUclips)
I just this afternoon noticed that Nebb (the weapon kid in hateno) has parents named Nikki and Nack, a play on Knick Knacks. His sister is Norah too, so their whole family has names starting with N
The SOS signal in the Divine Beast themes I did know about. Doesn't make it any less heartbreaking. A call for help that went unanswered because they were all outclassed.
I'm so glad you put the SOS info! I remember the video you released forever ago then pulled, and I always wished I could share that info with someone easily. The fact you didn't include how Revalis SOS is later in his divine beasts song though makes me sad.
I remember when I first learned about the SOS signal on Reddit. Gave me chills thinking about how the champions all eventually called out for help and help never came
I knew about the SOS signals (chilling when I first found out) and the Goron humming! Another interesting note: the Goron humming and Abandoned North Mine themes are the similar, if not the same, with the Goron part of the Tarrey Town theme (trombones specifically). They’re split up in Tarrey Town but its clear enough. I was listening to the soundtrack for study purposes and noticed this little detail. It also makes sense that they would use the humming theme for the Gorons’ section instead of something from Goron City because the Gorons hired to work for Bolson were from the mines. EDIT: I also knew about the birds, but not for shrines. I discovered the tip about the birds when I was at Lurelin Village, talking to one of the NPCs there who mentioned something about birds and fish leading close to treasure. I decided to sail around since I had nothing better to do and found a flock of seagulls (like, a really big one) flying around a patch of ocean. Went closer to investigate and found the biggest porgy school I have ever seen. A quick Stasis check (Stasis has a bigger range than Magnesis) shows THREE treasure chests just lying on the ocean floor. Needless to say, pretty surreal. I wished I knew about this tip sooner because I had found all 120 shrines when I learned about the birds.
THANK you for the visual added for the morse code fact! I've heard this many times before, but it's always been hard to place where in the music the SOS actually is without a visual- yours is the first I've seen!
*Commenting while watching the video* The flock of birds in the sky is a reference to seagulls flocking in the sky above big octos in Wind Waker! *Now finished the video* Only one I never knew about, nor noticed, was the Goron humming. With well over 1000 hours, its still so amazing that even one new detail is something I've missed over the last 5 years. What an amazing game
I actually didn’t know any of these, which is amazing, considering how many of these “things you didn’t know about Breath of the Wild” videos I’ve watched over the years.
What people don’t know is the “unintelligible” morse code is actually a “SAD” being played during the “SOS,” which is supposed to be the divine beast saying “search and destroy.”
I took advantage of a Black Friday sale to FINALLY purchase a Switch, and now I'm getting to enjoy BOTW for the first time. FINALLY, the secrets and tips/tricks, etc will make sense!
The only I knew about was the goron humming that theme, but I never really thought much about it other than “Huh…okay.” The others were much more interesting, especially with circling birds. I’ll need to remember that next I play, so thank you for pointing that out.
I knew about the SOS one but something that I noticed while listening to the music of the beasts (don’t ask why, I just listen to it randomly and imagine scenarios) Revali’s SOS came later than the others, showing he had to swallow his pride and finally ask for help
Birds in the game will circle over shrines and secrets yes! But they'll also fly in V-pattern formation, pointing you to them also! Birds are your friends so look up if you feel stuck (: (Also that last secret broke my heart!)
Fun fact when you're batting a stronger opponent in the game the piano does a high note when you hit a perfect shot in the head and also the music gets less intense when the battle gets easy I kind of like what the developers did with that ☺️☺️
An interesting thing that was also figured out is that on the divine beast tracks there is often another morse code message that reads out SAD which stands for "Search and Destroy" the SOS calls and SAD calls are done in beeps of different pitches and are actually panned so that one is in the left ear, the other is in the right. People have been finding other messages too, but they're less clear.
The SOS part is so sad... i knew about it tho. The things that were new to me were the birds circeling the shrine, the poisined water that didnt make it into the full game and the classic pants having the little octoroc icon.
Brother you need to do another collaboration video with the other big 3! You know who I'm talking about... You're one if not my favorite Zelda DUDE! Been an OG since 86, let's go!!!! BOTW2 is nigh!!!!!
Wow i didn’t know most of these but that last one is crazy. I never noticed it at all. That’s really sad. The amount of detail they put into this game is just insane.
Another secret that I hear no one talk about is that there is (in the one pf the DLC packs) a special piece of clothing that it doesn't tell you about in game. I think its from Phantom Hour Glass, but I've never played that. It tells you where to get it in the guide book to BOTW.
One small thing I only realized a few days ago, which everyone else probably already knew: The word "Rito" is literally just the two syllables of the Japanese word "Tori" flipped around. "Tori", for those who didn't know, means "Bird"...
Love the SOS. Reading a fan fiction called Couple of the Wild right now and it talks about the divine beast sending out beeps. Wonder if Kenny Boi knew about that.
Since the SOS all come at different points, I like to think they represent the order in which the pilot in question realized how outmatched they were. Since they're all respectable warriors, it's likely they don't call for help until after they're injured and on the defensive. Mipha is the first to call for help but this isn't because she's the weakest. BOTW makes it a point that Zora are weak to lightning, however if you go back to TP and OOT, it's clear that they can't handle the cold either. Waterblight fights using cryonis. Mipha is fully aware of her people's limitations and likely called for back up the moment she saw her opponent throwing ice around. On the opposite end is Revali. His signal takes the longest to appear in the music. Yes, his pride does influence his decision to ask for help, but there's more than just that to consider. With Revali's speed and agility, he can avoid pretty much all of Windblights attacks. Revali's limitation in this battle isn't from being outskilled, it's his weapon of choice that nerfs him. As shown in AOC, Windblight could simply blow the arrows away. And to make matters worse, Revali has to stop moving in order to aim his bow, which leaves him open to be attacked. He has no shield to parry attacks. No shiekah slate to use stasis. No sword the go for close range attacks. All he has is his aim. But he knows it's not a hopeless situation either. Realistically, if just one arrows hit the target, he could stun lock it and finish the job with a volley of bomb arrows, which is a strategy players tend to go for. But sadly, he never gets that opening. And eventually while slowing down to take another shot, he gets sniped.
In link's house upstairs their is a desk and the pen is on the left side suggesting that he writes with his left hand Probably what it is that link was forced to use his right hand as the social nrom and writes privately with his left hand
I’m really intrigued by Mekar Island! First time I went there I thought it was so creepy, but as I’m still relatively new to the Zelda franchise, I wasn’t sure if it held some hidden meanings or Easter eggs? I never knew why some places had so many birds and now I know they are likely flying over shrines, so that’s good to know!!
1:45 They're not exactly "equivalent". 郎 (rō) in Japanese is really just a common masculine given name suffix, whereas the -son suffix, while also common in English, historically meant that you were the son of someone else (Jackson = son of Jack, Erikson = son of Erick, etc.) Also the carpenters in OOT were number + rō, (Ichirō 「一郎」= One-rō, Jirō「二郎」= two-rō, Saburō 「三郎」= three-rō, Shirō「四郎」= four-rō) so that'd be more of the theme to follow in that instance.
I am replaying BOTW. and I've noticed something odd. Vah medoh has a barrier around him, which will hurt you a lot by coming in contact with it. Absolutely sheikah made. So how did Gannon penetrate this barrier? How did he conquer the other beasts with their own challenges set in place? Thanks zeltik!
I could see the Guardians - those flying ones - being able to take it out like Link does with bomb arrows, but this is actually a totally interesting thing that I've never noticed! It makes me wonder if it's even more symbolism to how much of a figurative wall Revali had up, like his SOS signal coming last. So interesting!!
Revali probably thought he’d be able to take on Windblight without help but then called out for help when he finally knew he was going to die.
In addition to the last thing:
The SOS comes in different points in the themes.
Also, Revali's is faster than the others, showing that by the time he realised he was in danger, he was nearly dead.
Windblight glows
@@abigailher9386 Urbosa’s SOS was most likely overwritten by the Blights Search and Destroy command so her’s couldn’t be heard clearly
So while playing through for the first time I actually thought that Zelda could join if she wanted to.
if we ever have a another majoras mask type of game where we enter a different world with characters out of place. i would love to see carpenter zelda in there
@@toschiworlds7212 As far as I remember, it's also "-da" in german.
That's dope
Zelda talks about checking on a Divine Beast because it stopped working at the end of the game, maybe she joined the workers after all
Zeltik: *Lists all of these fascinating lore tidbits and secrets*
Me: "Wow, this game is amazing"
Zeltik: "Also you can use R to make sharp turns while shield surfing."
Me: "WHAT-"
I know it’s going to change my life
If you didn't read "WHAT!" in JonTron's voice than you live in the stone age.
There is something you may missed in the Morse code secret.
Some have said that there is Morse code for S A D, or more specifically Search-And-Destroy.
That could be a message from Ganon to the Blights, telling them to kill the Champions.
I wanted to write the same. Since he said that there's also Morse code that doesn't translate into anything, I'm curious if that was debunked.
I take this to indicate two different origins of the Morse codes; the dying hero requesting Link's aid and the Blight being activated to hunt the hero.
oh my gosh, that last secret is *devastating* :’( these tiny details are just incredible
The SOS trivia really hit hard. When I replay this game and reach the divine beasts again I won't be able to unthink this
@@thaumana8489 Yeah it's really, really incredibly sad
How do u think they did the sos
I think they did with there hands like this:✊✊✋✋✊✊
Really adds a sense of sadness the next time you play through doesn’t it, the emptiness of Hyrule and the shattered remains of homes, which the music portrays beautifully, really appreciate the details the more I’ve learned the stories.
This is one of my favorite things in botw!
*[Brass starts]*
The SOS makes the champions deaths so much more creepier than it already is. I can imagine it like a horror movie scene
Some easter eggs I noticed (& others may have too) are:
- Drak at the Northern Mine talks like Biggoron
- The Daybreaker is meant to reflect the Gerudo symbol
- If you pull out the Master Sword with full weapon inventory, a new & PERMANENT slot will be created for it
- When you Riju's diary, in her bedroom up stairs, you find out that her real first name is Makeela
- The Flamebreaker Helm has cloth at the top that's tied up. That's to reflect how Gorons have a little hair that they tie up like sumos do
The specific Master Sword slot, isn't an Easter egg. I noticed you gain an extra, free slot, even when you don't have room for another weapon, and/or only have a few inventory slots, used up. Just sayin'.
You get the Master Sword slot regardless of your inventory.
Same with the Bow of Light.
Oh,I didn't notice the Makeela one
I only knew the master sword thing because I got too excited and forgot to make room in my inventory for it lol 😂
Poor Beedle. You’re a psychopath 😭
How could you harm Beedle you monster
What I find the most impressive about Breath of the Wild isn't that people still talk about it today, but the fact there are _still_ things to discuss that a lot of us didn't know. You've come up with things in older games that many people didn't know as well, but considering how well covered Breath of the Wild is, it's truly incredible there is still more to learn.
ASL?
With the last fact there's actually another morse code message along with the SOS if you listen which goes ... .- -.. or SAD which some people said stands for search and destroy which is probably being sent by the calamity to the blights. The SAD even ends up drowning out or overlapping the SOS in each theme in the end like the blights eventually defeating each champion.
My heart ❤ 💔
Oh...
One thing I didn’t know was that if link stands during the night he starts to fall asleep
I think he will do this during the day too. It's a go to idle animation
@@west3Dgaming actually he does not! i was bored one day and was trying to make him do it a couple times and once it hit like 5am, which is what i believe morning is for this game, he stopped doing it! its a very interesting detail
I believe the SOS in the Vah Medoh music comes far later in the music than the other Divine Beasts, reflecting how stubborn Revali was in waiting until he called for help.
wanted to say the same :D
Agreed!
They also swarm around treasure chests/large schools of fish. Or at least they do around lurelin village, idk if that's true for the rest of the map
So each champion's final moments were spent fighting an indomitable foe & sending out an unanswered call for help, absolutely heart-wrenching_
_BOTW's storytelling may be minimal & nuanced but it is there_
If I find something in this video that I truly don't know I'll be amazed at the amount of digging you've done.
Edit: The secret at the very end of the video, no spoilers, was actually mind blowing. I realized it at first from the sound as I'd studied Morse code back when I was in middle school. All in all a great video. Some stuff I knew, others I didn't and I can still say I'm impressed.
Lol i was thinking the same thing
How's that going?
I seem to remember that the Vah Medoh SOS comes far later in the music as well, indicating how stubborn Revali was in waiting until he called for help.
4 years later & im still learning new stuff about this game. Truly a masterpiece. Set the bar HIGH for BOTW2
I can’t believe there’s still so much I don’t know about this game
Fun fact: in the German version of OoT the carpenters are named John, Paul, George and Ringo.
Only in the N-64 Version, sadly.
@@sidnew2739works on the Switch N64 version too. Or do you mean opposed to the 3DS version?
There is another shrine based mechanic the game doesn't tell you about. If you move the cursor over a shrine you've visited on your sheikah slate, it will show if you collected all the treasure chests with a chest icon next to the name. If it's not there, then you haven't found all the loot.
The fact we can still find things some people haven’t heard of after all this time is a testament to the game as a whole, just fantastic
DUDE NO WAY, the thing with the SOS just blew my mind! Props to the composers thats amazing 🤗💝
I knew about some of the carpenters references and the tiny octorok on the trousers, but I never knew about the others. It's insane how many little things are in this game.
That final detail in the video also broke my heart a little, such a sad yet incredible detail.
Hey Zeltik, didn't you already made a video about the SOS messages from the Divine Beast a year or so before? And why did you delete that one?
Kudos man, while there are a ton of botw secrets/trivia/10-things-you-didn't-know etc, But this vid actually had info in the others didn't and stuff that was new to me. After all these years it's still cool to see new stuff emerge.
Zeltik had an SOS video explaining this a couple of years ago. I sent it to my sisters and BIL because it straight gave me chills. And then the video was taken down and I never knew why. I’m glad to see it mentioned here again. I do wish all four divine beasts calls were included here instead of just the two. Seriously, though, I love your channel and content.
Even with 700+ hours of this game, I only knew 2 of these facts. Good job!
I’m glad others noticed the SOS, gives me chills every time.
As far as game play, here's a few things I discovered that may not be too well know:
The blood moon guy, at the stable by twin peaks, will run in circles during a blood moon.
The fact that I have watched so many of these videos and still didn’t know these facts is saying something about this game
Gave me chills thinking about how the champions all eventually called out for help and help never came
I learned about the SOS markers a long time ago, but it's still a great factoid that really shakes you.
The Goron/Mine thing, if I'm not mistaken, is Totaka's Song that is hidden in many Nintendo games across every platform.
I’m starting to love these weekly uploads
get beaned nerrrd
When I first learned about the SOS message I burst into tears.
I felt so sorry for not having been there to respond to their last call.
THANK you for the visual added for the morse code fact! I've heard this many times before, but it's always been hard to place where in the music the SOS actually is without a visual- yours is the first I've seen!
*Commenting while watching the video*
The flock of birds in the sky is a reference to seagulls flocking in the sky above big octos in Wind Waker!
*Now finished the video*
Only one I never knew about, nor noticed, was the Goron humming.
Awesome job with these secrets!! I only knew the last one! 😍
This is just another example for "Breath of the wild" objectively being the best game ever.
Birds in the game will circle over shrines and secrets yes! But they'll also fly in V-pattern formation, pointing you to them also! Birds are your friends so look up if you feel stuck (:
(Also that last secret broke my heart!)
Flock of birds thing could also be a call back to wind waker. A flock of seagulls would always fly over where those big octos were hidden
I remember seeing the tip about the swarm of birds, but I never thought about it when shrine hunting
I think the SOS is not the Champions but the Divine Beasts themselves calling for help. Basically a “we are under attack, please assist.”
Fun fact when you're batting a stronger opponent in the game the piano does a high note when you hit a perfect shot in the head and also the music gets less intense when the battle gets easy I kind of like what the developers did with that ☺️☺️
"and as you can see, right next to link's massive package, there is a teeny tiny octorok from zelda 1"
that's sick! I had no idea about the construction workers or the SOS!! how super cool!!!
Man i just wanna say i absolutely love your videos and it makes my day when you upload. Please keep up the amazing work
I would say that I know much about Botw but you still managed to show facts that I didn't know about! I love your Videos
Brother you need to do another collaboration video with the other big 3! You know who I'm talking about... You're one if not my favorite Zelda DUDE! Been an OG since 86, let's go!!!! BOTW2 is nigh!!!!!
Bro the divine beasts fact has me crying and throwing up like the Champions probably felt so hopeless
Wow i didn’t know most of these but that last one is crazy. I never noticed it at all. That’s really sad. The amount of detail they put into this game is just insane.
now that SOS thing makes it sadder and now i can’t listen to vah ruta’s theme without feeling sad and expecting the SOS
I remember hearing the SOS in one of them, I didn't realize it was in all of them. Neat. :)
Blew my entire mind with the Birds part.....idk how i never noticed that
It's amazing how many things are still being found in Breath of the Wild. My favorite in this list was the humming Goron.
My second playthrough will be insane with all the details I've learned since finishing it
The sos signal one was really cool.
Love the SOS. Reading a fan fiction called Couple of the Wild right now and it talks about the divine beast sending out beeps. Wonder if Kenny Boi knew about that.
2:15 it reminds me of the Wind Waker Octorok Mini Bosses you only can find them when you see the seagulls swirling around in the Ocean
4:22 the song from the abandonet mine seems to have a close resemblance of totaka's song 🤔
That humming Goron tune sounds an awful lot like Totaka's Song.
Omg the SOS thing broke my heart. This is genius
In link's house upstairs their is a desk and the pen is on the left side suggesting that he writes with his left hand
Probably what it is that link was forced to use his right hand as the social nrom and writes privately with his left hand
This guys voice is perfect for murder mystery podcasts
I remember you pointing out how Revali's SOS was very delayed compared to the other three. I really liked that video
