It's taken me 20 years to realize these guys are masterful songwriters who write deceptively simple catchy rock and roll. This song is a perfect example of how there are all kinds of riffs, breaks, changes and vocal exchanges going on, but it still rocks like a runaway train. Learn it and the details and attention to arrangement become clear. Great stuff!!!
Watching Girl Next Door, Shazaming a catchy song brought me here. Three hours later I’m down a Sloan rabbit hole. How have I never heard of these guys? How were they not bigger? We need more rock songs like this!
They got a lot of play on Canadian radio but never really broke into the U.S. Same with The Tragically Hip, Matt Good, Big Wreck, etc. It is what it is, I guess

Man, I remember when concerts were actually like this- absolute bedlam from the moment the band hit the stage. Those times will come around again. It's only a matter of time before people start sacrificing a few photos and videos in favour of the kickass, fully-engaged, physical-sensory experience that is rock 🤘

Sloan was the rock concert my dad every took me to. Back when this song was brand new and all over Much Music. Awesome memory!
Saw these guys in concer 25 years ago at a music fest. They were probably the showstopper of all the 20+ bands. They rotated between the different instruments, all these guys are well versed in all of the rock and roll equipment! One of the best Canadian bands by far!

If anyone is curious the drum says sloan in Japanese katakana which is the characters for forgien language like hotdog, bon jour etc... SuRoN
スローン Suroon (Sue-loww-n). Yes, katakana (the lettering on the drum) is often used to write words of relatively recent foreign origin in Japanese, but it is also used for emphasis. Also, sometimes foreign-derived words are written in kanji or hiragana. For example, "coffee" can often be seen written as 珈琲, and "tobacco" is often written in hiragana - たばこ.

Sloan's one of those bands that doesn't release music if it sucks, like so many other bands do when they've been around for a long time. It's better just not to release something until you're ready.

If they only had 1) trashed a few hotels, 2) had some infighting amongst each other, and 3) got arrested for possession of cocaine at an airport, they would have been international rock legends. Sadly, they are simply polite Canadians that know how to rock.

Chris, Jay, and Patrick came out to speak with the punters and sign stuff after their show in St. Louis this summer. So nice all of them, but I can't believe how much they looked like young boys, even Patrick with the white hair and beard. Maybe rock music really keeps you young, but they all looked like teenagers, really thin and really tiny. 50 going on 15.
