I had a guy in the middle of his second shift, just look around after I asked him to scrape some trays, and he was like “nah, I don’t think I wanna work here anymore.” Then he clocked out and left. I just laughed and said okay cuz I was relieved I didn’t have to train him.

When I was like 16 I flipped burgers at Sonic.
New guy started his first day, was told to watch me do grill. Dude stared at me cooking patties for like 10 minutes then said he had to go the the bathroom.
He walked outside, walked past the bathroom, got in his truck and left.
    We never saw him again.

Had a guy come into a Commercial Kitchen. He was bragging that he did his College stuff and pretty much claimed he was better then anyone since he did Restaurant style food. After his first day (Monday being the second busiest day) he said he had never expected a kitchen to be so hectic. I told him Saturday was 5 times worse. We never saw him again.

Knowledge does not equal ability. I've seen it so many times. "I can do everything on this job and want to be in management within a year." Then day 1 comes and they can't do basic math without a calculator, can't understand how to use the cash machine, can't sell the product, can't believe they have to actually WORK to get paid.
My 2 favoriteexamples: A lady looked good on paper so I called to set up an interview. She asked if she could bring her 1-year-old and 'maybe another employee can watch him while I do the interview??' WTF. Hell no! My employees aren't your damn babysitter!
Next was an employee, hired before I started, who was causing issues (read drama queen) so I decided to work out of that location for a bit. The customer complaints were way too high and we were losing a lot of customers.
Every person who called or came in was told to 'call the 1800 number for that, we can't do it here'.
What??? Why do you think we pay you? Turns out she doesn't know how to do anything 'because I didn't have to before you came here.'
Ummm...no, that's not how this works.
I noticed she wasn't closing correctly, skipped vacuuming and taking out the trash. When I questioned her she told me "yea, my boyfriend does that but he's out of town this week. So it will have to wait".
*your boyfriend doesn't work here. you lazy b*tch*
The next day I come back from lunch and the store suddenly smells like a nail salon. She is at her desk PAINTING HER NAILS. Why?
'You wouldn't understand but pretty people don't really have to work."
*Fair enough. Call me back when you are ugly enough to work. You know- as ugly as me.*
What an idiot. I called my boss told him I fired her and why. He literally said I should have tried to retrain her first. Telling an employee to not delegate their job to their SO and not do their nails at work, on the sales floor, isn't covered in my training manual. So now it is two idiots.
I worked there for 6 years so it was really 3 idiots.
So many more nightmare stories and so glad I'm not working there anymore.

I was between jobs but my resume is decently strong and I have a stable work history and a clean military drug/crime history , even my driver license has low points. basically I get hired at almost everything entry and middle level I have ever applied for. The company I interviewed and got accepted with looked great on paper and had a lot going for it in pay and benefits. the first day on the job there was orientation and the HR lady that gave us a tour of the place sounded like the old lady on monsters inc. every bullet of information she gave us was punctuated with a stupidly strict rule and a warning ie "15 minute breaks in this break room only any where else or for to long and you are fired. " while touring the place with her obnoxious voice threatening to fire us for every infraction I observed how EVERY SINGLE PERSON look absolutely fucking miserable. not one friendly smile or wave. heads down, no smiling or eye contact. I really did need a job pretty quickly but when she asked if there were any questions after the tour my question was "where is the exit?" no regrets - I have been at my current company since 2006 - they are like my work family and I still enjoy my job and environment. 0 regrets F that place.

I once accepted a job offer to work as a cook/kitchen assistant. I was there for a day and a few hours. The kitchen staff was downright awful to each other. I know that it can get loud and rough, but these people were simply toxic. There was this overweight girl my age (around 18 at that time) which was the only one that wasn't being nasty and they were bullying her mercilessly, to a point where she hid for half an hour to cry. Was told this was always a daily occurrence "haha". I finished my task and left, told the owner his staff was absolute filth and never went back.

I had a job interview once for a cashier position at a grocery store. I rocked up to the interview 30 minutes early and had previously been told to specifically wait outside the store until the interviewer "beckons me in". I waited for an hour standing outside in the hot sun in 35°C heat (also dressed in long formal attire appropriate for the interview) before this interviewer finally came to tell me the interview was beginning. I walk in and here's another 20 other people going for the same interview who were all told 2 hours earlier that their interview is now actually taking place with another group of interviewees (myself included). The interview went well, but we were all given a book sized document to fill out have "authenticated" and signed off by local police and submitted the following day. On top of that, we were told during the interview that we wouldn't get more than 10 hours/ week and that sometimes without any prior notice we'd be expected to fill shifts for stores located up to 500 kilometres away. I was desperate for work, but not that desperate...

Had a guy quit after 3 minutes, of making sugar cubes. I know the time when he was sent to me was 9:02AM, as I was supposed to take my break at 9:00. Went over the basic 4 steps, Apply sugar mix, press into mold, scrape with small spatula to remove excess, tamp with handheld tool to ensure uniform cube formation. Demonstration of method took only 45 seconds. So he takes a clean mold in front of him to try, took about 120 seconds, and then the work was incomplete, as he had neglected the final step. Submitted his mold to me, and I had performed tamping, mold was less than half full. So I explained that he just needed to apply a bit more pressure, and sugar, and that it took me a few weeks to master the technique myself, as we work with various flavors, which have their own characteristics. Guy took his gloves, mask, and hairnet off and walked off the floor without speaking a word. Granted this was when Unemployment benefits were temporarily double the weekly pay due to Covid-19 relief, but to not say a word to me who took the albeit small amount of time to explain what was expected was pretty rude and dickish. After a few seconds of incredulity from me, looked back at the clock as it struck 9:05.

I worked one four-hour shift at a Pizza Hut as a second job. Halfway into my shift, I knew that that wasn't what I wanted to do. I turned in my uniform the next day. I figured it wasn't a huge deal, since they were only a second job and I was still in training anyway, so they wouldn't have to cover my hours remaining on the schedule. Apparently she got upset because she thought she was "just going to make coffee" there. Like...she _actually_ gave the excuse that her nails would be ruined if she had to do the other stuff (ie. collecting dishes, washing dishes, manning the register, running orders back, blending smoothies, scooping ice cream, scrubbing the display glass). I had to ask if this girl was actually a real person but everyone kept insisting that they weren't pulling my leg and she was seriously like that! God, it was a _dog positive_ cafe too! Not entirely quitting on the 1st day, didn't make it to it the 1st day. I was going to work as a waitress for a small 'cowboy' themed restaurant. Uniform was going to be hat, boots, shorts and t-shirt or tank top. I didn't know why back then but he put an odd emphasis on the 'uniform'. It was basically just barely a cowboy hooters now that I look at it in hindsight.
He had hired me and told me when to come in to get familiar with things and train before the grand opening.
Sadly my grandfather passed away and I went out of town for his funeral. Didn't inform my would be boss, didn't even think about him until after. Realizing this I knew I wasn't going to be working there.
But it wasn't a major loss, the place barely made it over a year. It went under when it became known that the owner (my would be boss) was cheating on his wife, and had been inappropriate with some of the waitresses, some who were minors. When I learned that and thought back to that interview I wasn't surprised.

Last week my boss of 6 months disrespected me for the last time. Our job is in the service industry and pretty busy this time of year. I gave him a 2 day notice, he ask what I meant. I said, "I'm packing my tools and I'm fucking leaving today"
I go back yesterday to get my check and return uniforms, He's so far behind on work he'll be catching up for months.
Moral of the story, Don't be a dick.

0:41 Yeah...I got to work early and started helping out, and my boss stopped me and made me sign in saying "I want you to get paid if you're working". Honestly, since it was just her and one guy, I didn't want them to do everything with me just sitting there, so I got up to help. It was only twenty minutes or so before my shift started, so I hadn't thought it that big a deal.

I was doing seasonal work at a tax preparation company that specializes in doing taxes for farmers. It was a good job and it was my third year doing it. We worked the night shift and staring at tax forms is not for everyone so it was expected that we would have people quit once the tax season really started. however, first week is all paid training and the first couple days is just watching standard workplace safety and anti-harassment videos. It's almost free money. About 2 hours in on the first day we have a bathroom/smoke break and one of the trainees just walks outside and never comes back. No clue why the guy could not sit through another couple hours of silly movies and collect a day's paycheck for no real work.

I quit after a week because they wanted me to train and supervise a new team. This was a sheet metal fabrication shop. I was still making mistakes on the sound dampening blades we were making. I wasn't taught how to read the plans, I would either not put enough blades in a box or the edges of the sheet metal weren't flush. I could have done it after 1 month of being there but not 1 week. I tried to talk to my supervisor about it but he told me I had to do it. I asked the big boss and told him my concerns about it and he said he'd talk to the guy above me. The next day I was told I had teach the new staff. So that was my last day. I didn't want to be responsible for a improperly made product or risk having new employees injuring themselves because of my lack of experience. The pressure to make them perfectly was awful (they wanted the rivets perfectly spaced apart, no scratches, everything perfect) I told them I could either make them perfectly or make them on time, it's my 1st week you get to pick one not both. I was also blamed for some insulation not being properly packed. I never packed insulation, and it was only the thin fabric that surrounds the insulation which had come undone on one of the corners. It was not my fault and I told them it could have ben avoided if I were properly trained to look for those things when assembling, and how could I train a team if I was improperly trained. The guy above me was pissed about it, but I don't want to responsible for an assembly line that can't make its products and where the staff are at a high risk level of injury because of my inexperience and ill training

Unfortunately, your experience is not unique to you. I currently work at a sheet metal fabrication shop but as an engineer. I make the drawings and write general work instructions. So I can teach people how to read a drawing, notes list, and bill of material. I learned these things in a high school drafting class - never was trained at my current job.
I've never been trained on how to operate a press brake, laser, punch, or drill press - I know how to use a drill press because I own one, everything else, nope. But I've asked at lest 1X a month about it for the last 3 years. Yet I'm expected to give detailed instructions on manufacturing processes. Every once in a while I'll get a new person asking me to train them on some machinery and I have to find someone else who has actual experience, sometimes they just quit because whoever has been there the longest is just a bad mentor and won't teach them or keeps sending them to me.

Not on the first day... I stuck it out for 1 1/2 years as an apprentice at this terrible hotel. Originally I was hired to learn everything about a hotel, that means I was gonna go through Housekeeping, Service, Reception, Kitchen, Booking/Back Office and Event Service.
As of now, I haven't done anything else but clean rooms since the 'rona hit. I get it, we all need to take a hit, but my friends in other hotels go through department after department while I am doing NOTHING else than cleaning rooms. Not even the theory of other departments gets cut on for us. All the while we are harassed by one of the managers who expects us apprentices to clean the rooms perfectly like a professional maid does, picking on us if we don't get something clean enough. All while telling us 50% of our tasks, and getting mad at us if we don't do 100% of em.
I'm done. I'm so done with this hotel, this manager, the owners and everything else. I quit last Monday, and told them essentially to go screw themselves, and that I'll be continuing my apprenticeship somewhere else where I'm getting respected.
Currently I'm in the process of quickly trying to move out of the staff house and got a few offers as a roommate.

I actually just quit a job today that was my first day, it was some in store sales position where you’d be that person that goes up to people while they’re shopping and pester them to get home improvement, it sounded like something I wouldn’t mind doing when they were talking about it but when actually doing it today and had to do it on my own I very quickly formulated my opinion and it was “I absolutely hate this” the job was something I could do but I just did not enjoy it at all, the shifts were more than 8 hours and I would just walk around the store the entire time asking everyone the same pitch over, and over, and over again. And I just felt like a pest to allot of people the person training me was cool and good at what he did but he was just so pushy towards people despite them not being the slightest bit interested. So when it came time for my shift to end I didn’t want to stick around some place I would hate being at and delay the inevitable that would’ve most likely just happened a couple weeks from now and just texted him after the shift and said, this isn’t for me thanks for the opportunity and blocked his number.

Found an apartment in the town with the new job. Terminated his lease. Moved to the new town and had worked less than a month in the new job, when the City of his old job finally gave in and met his terms. Catch is: he signed a CONTRACT with the new job, and couldn't just leave. He roped our little sister into taking over his new apartment, and his New job, so he could go back to his old job. My sister almost committed suicide because of this new job, and our brother didn't care.

(1/19/21) A couple weeks ago I was offered a job at Kroger and I had orientation and I had read through a book similar to the handbook but not the handbook.
I was going to bag groceries, do some cleaning and stocking, and push carts. I wasn't sure if I could do that(I would have to push like 10 at a time), and when it came to bagging that could be too stressful for me. (I am on the spectrum and I struggle with overwhelming situations.)
Because of that, I ended up quitting over the phone on a day I was supposed to come in and train.
I recently had a Salvation Army interview for cashiering(I figured that wouldn't be as stressful, plus I am trained in that), but apparently I need a driver's license(I failed the driving portion of Driver's Ed), so I am on hold, but I may have a back room position soon. :)

Oof I hate the person who just avoided being fired because of useless fights. Also, Why the hell was the supervisor even fired? Wanted the new manager to fire him SO BADLY

Why? Middle management are always d&*ks, especially since that supervisor was a newbie. If anything, I'd have done the exact same thing in the same sitch.
