I have one of these swords for about two years.I am very pleased with it but i mainly cut fruits and vegetables,no tatami or harder targets. It did hit my wooden stand a couple of times but the blade had no problems with it.The guard hasn't loosen up still but the problem with it comes with the way it is constructed (the wooden grip isn't compressing the guard but it is up until the riser before the guard).Plus, the scabbard is plastic and not wood core.It only has wood at the throat, after that is some kind of synthetic.Very nice review of a very nice sword, taking under consideration its price range...
Very informative review video, brother! It IS a fantastic design by Mr. Pearce, especially on a type rarely picked up by production company (that Brazil Nut pommel is really well formed), however given Hanwei's recent QC record, it makes you wonder whether they are the best choice of company Tinker Pearce should give his designs to. But what are the alternative on the market? For a type X or Xa with brazil pommel, you would have to pick up a Albion Reeve which costs three times as much, not to mention it doesn't come with a scabbard. I would still give this H/T Norman a B- even with the slightly soft tempering (people who have file-tested them reported HRc 48-50) and the slightly loose guard.
Just got the LK Chen Tang Zhan Ma Dao.. Omg this thing is to much Sword for me.. i need to learn how to make vids so i can share. Anyway i Bet you had an Awesome cutting day was one of the best spring days here in South NH.
Yes bro! It was an amazing day for cutting. Large swords definitely take some extensive practice to use effectively. I have faced that challenge before. But it’s one of the cool things about this interest!….learning to use different swords and trying to understand the martial arts systems behind them.
2 years now since I've had this sword and it's still holding up pretty good I've cut some of those rolled mats and some bottles cardboard boxes still has a good edge hasn't really doled at all hasn't loosened up at all hasn't bent still a good sword. This is pretty much a sword that a Man at arms would purchase. It's a good blade and overall good construction but nothing fancy. It's a no thrills functional sword.
I've taken mine thru some pretty abusive testing. Very durable, no problems. However, when I tested mine in terms of surviving penetrative abuse (i.e. stabbing into wood multiple times) it eventually rolled the tip back in a similar fashion as to what you've encountered. I personally caulked it down to a very thin distilled tapered point.
Thank you for the kind comment!! And thanks for watching!! I believe I got it from a retailer called Kingdom of Arms. Last I checked though they raised the price to 299.00 and they are sold out. They must have been trying to move old stock when I bought it. It was a “sale” price which caught my eye.

that tip damage happened to my Silver swallow Miao Dao but was quickly corrected with some grinding on a hard stone.
I corrected it by some slight hammering. But I have to grind it a little to totally fix it.
I have to say, I was quite surprised at the softness of the blade, Because I love 5160, but shows that heat treatment is extremely important!
@@mattamathics1108 you have to see this Tang Zhan Ma Dao..it can cut paper..and i think i can chop a 5 inch oak down in one cut..

Good review! If this blade is like the 5160 Tinker Early Medieval blade I have (looks pretty similar) that tip is really thin.

Is there anything you can do to fix the guard?
"Sweet!"😎👌
I have this sword. Good review. But your wrong Excalibur was thrust into a rock and didn't brake or roll the tip....
Great review man. Where did you purchase this sword to get such a sweet deal? Would like to check them out!
