I clicked the like button before you even mentioned it 😆, it was undoubtedly another well produced episode. I definitely agree that as a single-edged blade mounted on a sword hilt (pommel and guard with a hidden tang) this is a short type late medieval/early Renaissance falchion. Angus Trim himself categories it as a falchion as well. The slightly complex guard is perhaps inspired by Wakefield style English hangers. Good on you emphasizing Angus Trim's impressive accomplishment and his signature complex distal taper. I've experienced this on his French Medieval Falchion when I reviewed it, absolutely handles like a dream! I'm glad that Kingston Arms has more competent sharpening now. I have one of the Atrim designed arming swords by KA, and while the sword has great handling, the edge geometry and the sharpening is a let-down. Pretty much agree to all the points you raised in this video. Couldn't have stated them better myself! Looking forward to your future videos.
Had my eye on this one for a while! I have the type XIV Kingston which I absolutely adore, and I’ve been desperately waiting for their renaissance sidesword to comeback into stock too. The idea of a falchion with a complex guard is an intriguing proposition indeed! I honestly really appreciate Kingston Arms, especially for us guys who aren’t filthy rich and can’t afford to throw money at an Albion or Lockwood. Especially when the Australian dollar is so weak compared to USD blehhh
meanwhile in Canada 646.99 + tax and shipping; thanks for your time and effort Mike, great review. Robust bit of hanger there, nice sheath...all the best
Yes it definite sucks living in this tax encrusted money pit. The border assholes steal your money too. I bought a 300$ sword that ended up costing me 550$ from Michigan to Montreal.
@@tedblackburn8679 yes indeed it pretty much works out to the same price in the end buying from an US or Canadian seller + or - . I also went through it for about the same figures as you for a Hans Talhoffer facsimile: shipper needed $30 more for duty....super nice book though...probable fate...greatgrandchildren colouring in it
@@leeisaac5716 Yeah , Canadian prices are crazy. What happened to "free trade"? I guess the store selling them are forced to pay duty and taxes too. They also want to make profit. I heard in England its even worse. You need a permit or a good reason to import swords. I fear its only going to get worse here too. The penguins in Ottawa are already trying to get rid of guns by staging false flag mass murders. I can only imagine what they have planned to get rid of knives/swords. Crazy world we live in. Cheers.
It's a good morning when I see one of my very favorite youtubers drop a video! Interesting sword, got to get some two handers first...still like your Euro 10 and custom Hanbon Nodachi best, and my first (next month) will be the 10, and then maybe the RK O katana. I see another new favorite youtuber commenting here, that's cool, too Have a great day, Mike!
the Falchion started out as a single edged version of the standard medieval arming sword, the Cutlass/ Dussack are the post medieval complex hilted versions of the falchion
Very cool. Been waiting for someone to get and review one. Definitely a unique sword design. Looks like a good, solid cutter and well built from tour demonstration. I own an arming sword by Kingston designed by Gus and she has that same ring when you cut
Great review! That's one I've had my eye on for a while. You may have helped nudge me into a purchase lol. I have the type XIV from Kingston arms and I'm very happy with it. Thinking of it like a Falchion with a complex hilt is exactly where my mind went as well. Just subscribed to your channel, keep up the good work!
I've already been debating between a Landsknecht Emporium Messer and an LK Chen sword for my next midrange purchase, and now I have to consider this too. Dang it! Thanks for the great review!
Very nice sword. I've been eyeing that for a while. Definitely falchion with some fancy hand protection. Nice long thick ricasso for stopping power. Short too , easier to handle for close quarter situations. I'm getting more into antiques. I just bought my 2nd 1881 dragoon shashka. Best sword i ever handled. So easy and light/nimble and even after 120 years its still strong and ready for battle. You should review some antiques. That would be cool. I love that little falchion though. I like cutlass type sabers. Great review. Cheers.
Well, after watching this video so many times, and failing to justify more money on another sword, I just ordered this blade. Will be with me in the next few days, so am saving all my pop bottles. Now I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas...
@@mattamathics1108 the Tang Zhan Ma Dao is a FUCKEN TANK of a Sword.. it swings nice only issue is it uses sword muscles you never knew you had.. however it will cut down 5 gallon jugs with ease killed one last week i should of taken a vid of it

Thank you brother!! Yes the distal taper on this thing is a sight to behold! A very nice design.
That's one I've looked at g put on my "if I ever have the money" list. But glad to see it in action! Definitely looks like fun to cut with!

Thanks for the review. Could you do a video on the method you use to sharpen your swords? I really want to learn how to do this.

This is what I would think a pirate in the 17th century to carry, has a nice look to it.
9260 is about the best steel for a sword, (if done right.) Beautiful blade, saving my pennies already. One question.. Edge profile? Flat, Appleseed, ?
sad to say i sold my DSA knochenbreacher it had to many sharp issues on the handle..wasnt my thing
Stupid cold out every weekend but you have to check out my new chinese swords i got. i need to learn how to make a youtube channel.
Did you get some stuff from LK Chen? I have a good story for you if you did.

The sword handles like a dream, but the sheath looks like a '70s gas station knife sheath, aesthetically disappointing for such a great blade.
Not my favorite design. Hand protection is almost nonexistent.
