I make envelopes out of my old calendars and they go through the mail just fine if you use labels and proper postage. I have a large selection of envelope templates I've collected over the years and cut and fold them by hand. Great idea using the cutting machine, thought, so I might have to try that.
@@jenniferfarsh675 Absolutely! When I choose my calendars each year I always consider how they will work as envelopes. If the focal point is too high on the calendar page then it will end up on the flap instead of the front.
I watched a lot of your videos years ago and when I started my bullet journal for 2022 I returned to your book pocket video (which I’ve used for previous journals too). It got me interested in checking out your current videos and I’m glad I did!
Great video. I am a cardmaker, and I have a Cricut. I have used the Cricut for envelopes, but I don't usually. I also have a We R Memory keepers scoreboard that has an envelope maker on the back. It can turn a square of paper into an envelope pretty quickly and it is fun and easy. An 8" square makes an A2 rectangular envelope. But of course there are many ways to achieve this. That is just the way that I found to be fun. And a great use for one-sided printed paper - esp if I don't love the print. I can put the white on the outside and the print will be seen as a surprise on the inside. Even if it is a paper I don't love, it ends up looking cute as the inside of an envelope.
I use a WE R Memory Keepers envelope punch board and it works so well. It’s super easy and fast to make envelopes and they are really nice looking. Less work than having to use a cutting machine. I can easily make at least 100 in only an hour.
Same I like to use that we are memory keepers of a little punchboard to. I have that as a fast option then I also use my cricket to cut out envelopes in a different style with the flap is pretty.
I make lots of envelopes from patterned paper for cards which are a non-standard size. I have created lots of "trace it with a pencil" templates over the years and I can probably do one in close to the time of the cricket. Which is fortunate, since I don't have one.
I love these envelopes! As someone who sends out a lot of mail, they will make it through the postal system. I've decorated my own envelopes and never had a problem!
Wow! The envelopes you made are so cute. I would probably buy a pack of the envelopes versus making them simply because I don't have the equipment to make them but you do make it look so fun and easy.
I think that this is great! If you plan on doing multiples, you may want to get multiple cutting mats to expedite your process. That way you can them loaded and ready to cut as soon as one is done.
The envelopes made with your custom patterned paper are absolutely amazing! I love the monochrome look in the inside and the nice colorful pattern on the outside! If I ever need paper or envelopes I would love to use your paper for the crafts!
I had tons of fun watching this vid! I have the Explore 2 Cricut and haven’t used it much. Now I’m so inspired to make envelopes with my two sided geli printed papers.🦌💌❤️📚
Making your own envelopes is always fun, and is also a way to show how much you care about a certain paerson or caetain things, for example a make my own envelopes when its for a gift and i found most people keep them after or even re-use them, so i highly recomend you to do your own im sure the patreons will apeciate it
I don’t have a Cricut but I do have a plastic Kuretake template for cutting them out by hand and they’re so fun to make. I like using the scrapbook sheets that have foil accents or texture when I want them to stand out.
I’m another one recommending the We R Memory Keepers envelope punch board. I find making envelopes with that really therapeutic! I just get a stack of paper in the size I need and sit making envelopes while watching tv. You can get a whole stack in no time.
I use old calendars I have used or bought in flea markets, some really great retro papers there. I use an envelope score Tool -a no-brand one, similar to WeR Memory Keepers, which are hard to find where I live. Scoring and folding is a breeze. I use double sided tape as adhesive, also for the end flap. I always get comments and questions from the recipients as the paper designs are so rare. Good for you for using the stash of paper that would otherwise remain ununsed.👍🌞
I'm a retired letterpress pre press tech and graphic designer - I made custom envelopments as part of my job- Congrats - you cover all the bases - the only thing we did to save on production time is use double sided tape instead of glue- You can store them flat and not fold them until needed. Also I designed envelope liners for just about every job- Your patterned paper would be so cute as liners inside solid color envelopes.
Always impressed by your creativity Jennifer. Save any tyvek envelopes you recieve. I'm working on a little present to say thank you for being my initial inspiration to go down the rabbit hole that is bookbinding and it uses tyvek as the cover. Hopefully be ready to send your way in a month or so (I'm a very slow worker).
I have an ember's craft bond tape runner, and it has been really handy for gluing things together. For the sealing of the envelopes, Daiso has some really good two-sided tape as well.
I use a silhouette machine for my cutting but as a card maker I always make my own envelopes with the we r memory keepers envelope punch board as it's more cost effective, I use double sided tape on the closure flap and glue on the others.
I only make my own envelopes ! But I use the we r memory keepers punch board. I have a Cricut joy but it’s so quick with the punch board. Thanks for sharing file!
Wow this is awesome I’m gonna have to try that sometime I do have an envelope punchboard which I just recently figured out how do use with the help of my fiancé laugh out loud, I have recently found that hobby lobby has a bunch of envelopes on clearance and their paper aisle for $.99 from 399 you get quite a lot in the pack and they come and bright colors the ones that are marked now just a heads up thanks for sharing!
I love this! I really would love to make my own, so I think this was the sign I needed! I use a lot of flat envelopes for stickers and stuff! With the cutting machine, take a look at the Silhouette Cameo/Portrait - it only uses one tool and it can do the scoring and cutting in one pass, I think they have a patent on that technology by the looks of things! I make sticker sheets with mine as I can change the cut depth during one pass, it's really really good.
Very cool my wife keeps talking about downloading firmware to update her Cricut machine! I guess that project is going to be moving up the to-do list! Thank you for sharing your template and showing us just how to get started! I am not sure what a punch board is? I guess that it is another thing to look up! I do remember when we had to go to the library, now it seems we just fire up our favorite search engine and go for a walk of discovery online instead of the stacks in the library! Ahh well times change, I hope the human spirit will continue to evolve and grow despite our “modern times” Thanks for the envelope!
@Sea Lemon • Jennifer, Have you made any lined envelopes? I think it would be really distinctive to have a plain outside with a patterned inside but am not sure how to adjust the weights of papers and size adjustments.
Omg omg....I usually just use my we r memory keepers punchboards to make mine. I didn't know you could use a cricut to do this!!!!! Another reason to invest in a cricut!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Idk if the doubt is related... But how can you remove/decrease the smell of fevicol from the things I created... May it be bookbinding or paper bags, envelopes etc
Can you do it with cricut explore air 2? I am short on budget and I wanna buy as well. I have my own template of envelope that I made but me cutting still not good
I can only speak for Germany/Deutsche Post but I imagine it's similar for other country's postal services. As long as an envelope fits within the size requirements and the recipients address is on there somewhere (and not switched with the senders address) then the letter will most likely make it to its destination just fine. But by making it impossible for the machine to first read the address and then stamp the bar code used for further routing onto the letter you are taking advantage of a more expensive service. The letter has to be sorted by hand so it's no longer the cheapest kind of letter at 85 cents, it bumps it up to 1€. The terms and conditions of your postal company should state how they handle this case but if you can't find it there, just ask them! Then you know for sure and you don't have to send out dark envelopes crossing your fingers hoping it'll make it lolp
I didn’t realize there was a score tool for older models, the reviews on Amazon seem disappointing (didn’t score deep enough), maybe there is more pressure with the Maker model?
I think that’s why Cricut came out with the scoring wheel in the newer models. It seems to score deeper and there are different score attachment options for it. I like using it, but I wish it could have its own port so I don't have to keep switching tools 😄
Great! Thanks for the template. When I tried to open in Design Space it gave a message that said the file uses images not available in my country. I’m in the US. Has anyone else gotten this?
That's really weird. I don't know why it says that, or what to change in my file to fix it... it's just 2 shapes and the project is made available to "everyone".
It says that the project can not be made or customized. It can only be made or customized by the owner because as it contains images that were uploaded or are no longer available. Other projects I have done by other people I have downloaded their file and uploaded it into design space myself. I don't know why cricut doesn't let you share projects with uploaded images.
@@Valerie_Wijbrandus oh it must be that it’s an uploaded svg, but isn’t that how others do it? If I give permission Cricut should allow it. That’s so silly.
The envelopes look awesome, I'm in Mexico and I tried sending a patterned envelope that had a darker background color and they wouldn't accept because any stamps, like inkpad stamps that the post uses those round ones, could get easily lost with the darker background. Something to keep in mind, don't know if that is a Mexican post office thing or a thing everywhere.
It's about $14 for 100 of the A4 kraft envelopes... so it's more cost effective to buy them, but if I already have the paper and time, it's worth it to make a few :)
I think you use an A2 envelope. An A4 is a bit bigger than 8"x11". I think for something like this, folding the envelope by hand, or even with an envelope board, is faster than a cutting machine. Your papers make really cute envelopes.
I tried opening your envelope project in Design Space, but it said "This product cannot be made or customized" and the info said it was because the owner of the design uploaded their own image.
I make envelopes out of my old calendars and they go through the mail just fine if you use labels and proper postage. I love this idea. I imagine the each envelope has its own unique personality. Second use paper is extra special ❤️

So do I!! ❤
I use a double sided tape that has a peel tab on one side to act as my adhesive strip to close my handmade envelopes.
I was going to suggest this as well.
Why have I never thought of that before?? I loooove making envelopes, btw.
Those envelopes are too cute! 😍

Great idea, especially with the paper printed on both sides. I’d say that’s a dramatic update from kraft-colored envelopes.
