@@brianfearn4246 i have the 1.8 ford engine in a mazda 6. Replaced the aux belt myself on the cheap for 20euro, took me about 2hrs. About 1month later the belt tensioner started to rattle, getting worse and worse. So I had to replace the tensioner too. lesson learnt, replace the tensioner and belt at the same time.
It's the most brutal job I've done to date I got my idea from this video as when I found out had no tensioner pulley I was baffled to how you fit them. I could not align the bolts to the block with the belt on so I stuck a long screwdriver in 2nd hold while screwing in the left side bolt while a a friend had hold on a long bar to stop the bolt from cross threading. Most brutal job to do on your own definitely easyia with 2 and the right tools to assist
I actually owe you many beers! I was stuck on a customers drive, bought the tools and they didn't work(45mins wasted) I managed to use an adjustable spanner, swan necks and a lawn rake... Took all of 15mins in and out! Thank you!!
Thanks Allen for taking the time to post this tip. I have just done timing belt, pump etc of daughters 1.6l Duratec Focus and had not come across the stretch belts previously and would have struggled. The Duratec is very similar other than using a single belt that picks up the aircon compressor. Alternator stud is an E9 socket for info. On the Duratec I found it worked best leaving the alternator pivot bolt well slackened off, this allowed the stretch belt, after looping around all of the grooved pulleys, to be slipped onto the plain water pump pulley by hand with no tension on the belt at all. Then just tightened up the alternator as you did, ultra easy and no risk of belt damage by stretching it over the pulleys with one of the special tools. Quicker, cheaper and safer fitting technique that the official way ( particularly if as in my case the alternator was already required to be pulled back to access the engine mount bracket) Fantastic tip and clearly shot and explained !! The only thing I could add is a reckon its a good idea to smear the alternator stud and bolt with Antiseize when replacing ☺
I did a similar episode on my channel on my MK1 Focus, the stretch belt is a rare fitment on a MK1 being only fitted to non-air con 1.6 models after 2001 for some unknown reason. On a MK2 it seems to be a standard fitment almost. I'm glad you've done this the same way as using the correct tool is very frustrating and a waste of money as you've demonstrated. The only difference in the way I do it... I take the bottom bolt almost all the way out so it makes getting the belt on the alternator pulley much easier than struggling to move it around the water pump. It's just really important to make sure to align those two alternator bolts otherwise you'll ruin the thread and then your in for hours of fun! Great video again :)
absolute legend, my aux belt snapped the other day on my volvo c30 and i was scratching my head for ages trying to stretch it around the crank pulley, this method did wonders managed to fix it in 30 mins! just had to come back to say thankyou mate you’ve saved my day🙏🏼
after struggling like a bstd and failing to get belt on , i thought some bright spark will have an idea on utube . Soon as i saw it was your guide ,i knew this would be it . Worked a treat .Thanks . Hope your still enjoying your new exotic lifestyle. 3 months till i retire , bring it on .
I have a Volvo C30 which is a Focus in a posh frock with these stretch belts and I have been having nightmares about replacing them. The way you replaced that AC belt made it look so easy. Thank you so much for putting my mind at rest.
thanks, I like your method, your way makes it easier, than stretching the belt on , I have a stretch belt on my fiesta , almost identical to the focus you're working on here , that is again for your videos ,
I did this on my fiesta. I loosened the belt like you did but I had to bar the hell out of the alternator to get that stud in. That e bolt is not meant to take that kind of abuse and I ended up snapping the end.
Thank god I come across this video now I can give it a go. The reason for me watching it is to change my thermostat but I have to take the alternator out but put the belt on last. Thanks
Nice!!!!!! Im just doin this job exact same engine Thanks man i got the bar and will give it a go Yu made it look easy ....i think you just made this job a joy to do
a while ago ford gave out a bit of information for cars with stretch belts. due to misalignment issues the alternators need to be pulled up a slight bit in the play of the bolts to keep the belt as stretched out as possible. using the alternator as your tensionor is probably why they gave ot that info. secure your alternator properly and use the correct tools to fit your belt to avoid future problems.
hello, congratulations you are very clear in the explanations, I wanted to ask you if you also made the video regarding the service belt change for the mondeo 2.0 mk5, thanks.
Just done timing belt on 56 plate Mazda 2 following your fiesta video…… by far the most difficult part of the job was the 2x auxiliary belts pain in the A£@ lol used the lazer tool but it was a pain haha but got there keep up good work
Great video,i did a 2.2 transit alternator so had to remove 2 stretch belts one for the alternator and one for the power steering, trying to make the job easier i bolted a tool to remove the belt and snapped the power steering pulley which is plastic 😂😂😂😂😂 lesson learnt 🤦♂️😅
Don't own a Focus, have never owned one, and probably never will... and yet for some reason I've now watched the vid three times. Must be that British accent or I've just had too much JD. But then again, can one really have too much JD in this ClownWorld? Anyway... good vid, thumbs up, and all the good stuff. 🥃
Hi Alen On Focus MK2 1.6 petrol 100hp can you change the water pump only without disturbing the timing belt tensioner. Thank you Stupid me I found your previous video for timing belt replacement and answer is no 😂
Hi for the Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec the same as you just worked on do you need the AC belt as my AC has never worked? I want to change belts but as it's a separate belt can I just leave it off?
The cheap bits of tin you get with the kit are next to useless I agree but I’ve got the proper tool, it’s night and day between the two, I think it cost something like £30 but I’ve used it loads of times. Once you’ve used it a few times it slips the belt on a doddle.
Maybe you have not dealed with transit mk 7. Would be interesting if you had some experience about that van in general, expecially engine ,drivetrain issues.
Absolutely fabulous. That's a far better way than using those fitting brackets that come with the belt kit. Many thanks Alan 😊
You no these car like the back of your hand. I have a 2007 focus zetec so your videos come in really handy 👍
I thought all modern cars had tensioners for aux belts, you learn something new every day 👌
The mk2 focus 1.8 has a belt tensioner but the 1.6 doesn't.

This guy is a great teacher! I'm so grateful for this video!
I do not have a Focus bit I like to see how smoothly you work. Magic. I wish my old 2005 Mondeo was so easy to work with.
This video is just superb! Many thanks for your clear explanations and pragmatic approach to doing this!

Straight to point and very informative

good luck😁
Thanks a lot. I was looking for a video for a Volvo 1.6 (2006) but I can clearly see that its the same engine.
did you end up doing the job? fitting this to my volvo tonight hopefully
Hi Alan, great post . Unfortunately needed it 2 weeks ago😂
Thank you for the Zetec memories Alan 👍😉💪
Thank you! I was strugling to get belt on in Volvo S40 II 1.6 and it has exactly same engine. I try this tomorrow, but it seems easy.
Thank you for doing this, Alan, Know what you been about the special tool could never get it to work.
Great tutorial video alan .. you must be missing the Philippines mate .
10 out 10 Alan, great video, 👍👍
That's the one Alan , so much easier , that's why we in the know do it this way ❤
Nice!!!!!! Im just doin this job exact same engine
Thanks man i got the bar and will give it a go

hi, this is for the mk5 2l diesel. .ruclips.net/video/toKv2yUoU6Y/видео.html
Man,thanks a lot....you saved my nerves,day & month.😀😃

Top tip thanks. I remember having a battle with that belt. Didn't leave the bottom bolt on and it was horrible.
Thanks alot, worked on 2011 mk3 Focus 1.6 Ti-Vct ❤
Saved my day. Thanks!
😊

Ive tried for hours to get the belt over the water pump pulley. Can the belt be stretched a bit before fitting it?

Hi Alen
On Focus MK2 1.6 petrol 100hp can you change the water pump only without disturbing the timing belt tensioner.
Thank you

Great job Alan, Thank You👌👍🙏😎
Best one yet, thanks.
is there no adjustments on this car
No tensioner on this car.
The 1.8 focus has a belt tensioner but not the 1.6
thank you for making this video very good info
Another trick with the air con belt if you don’t fancy trapping fingers is a cable tie at the sort of 7pm spot and wind it round then.
Hi for the Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec the same as you just worked on do you need the AC belt as my AC has never worked? I want to change belts but as it's a separate belt can I just leave it off?
Have you ever done the cam dephaser?
Great work.
Do you ever do a service on transit customs deisel
You are the best mate Cheers Thank you
thank you so much sharing very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Do you recommend all 10 years/160'000 kms? Thanks and greetings from Switzerland 🎉
i would change the belts myself at 10 years or 100k miles
Thank you , i dont have the correct tool so i have to loose the alternator ( i dont see the 3rd bolt). That was helpfull
I have done it the same way on a fiesta.
I was expecting the car show video last sunday...😂😂
thats work in progress still 🤣
@@alan4x i wanna see Dave ,vivian and kevin ☺️☺️☺️ with u
Very very helpful thanks
I need a ac belt but i cant get hold of one so annoying
Checking width of belts might be an idea as well.
Great, very helpful, thanks.
Great video I have been looking for a long time for someone to show how this is done - many thanks - do you know the size of the 2 belts thanks again
Mega fajny film !
wow nice one alan
Good job
😁
Top info. Cheers bro.
Thanks for the info.

What was ford thinking v belt without tensioner yak😢
Thank you
شكرا لك زميلي العزيز
Thankyou 👍
wish id watched this before i done my fiesta belt
So much easier on the 1.8. Just push the pulley aside and the belt come loose...
E bit is 6mm. 👍
Ten points!
Me i find it easier to remove the belt by undoing the water pump screws come out easily
Hammer! I get it😊
Doesn't loom so easy to me 🤣 comparing to the tensioner you can just slacken
Yes stupid idea really the one I struggle with is fiesta power steering a right sht to get on only a small belt
That advice would have been good a while ago, it is a terrible work like you said, i think continental stretches more easily.
Maybe you have not dealed with transit mk 7. Would be interesting if you had some experience about that van in general, expecially engine ,drivetrain issues.
