Hi mate with a fresh head new pump in place happy feeling now all that's left is the pipes.. how did you connect yours so easily did you lightly bolt them to the frame then into the steering rack..
@ hey, well done. Yes , that’s right. I added some silicon spray to the seals just to add some safe lubrication, then just pushed them in and tightened everything up, making sure it was all square , but everything went in fine and normal. Just avoid any dirt and crap from around the area getting in. Mine was pretty clean, but I brushed any dirt away with brake cleaner, before I took the old pipes off. The only slightly tricky bit of the process is getting the metal pipe pushed into that one way Union bolt, but it pushes in a bit hard and clicks.,
Lovely jubbly great detailed video by the way if I'd of done a video prob would of been a documentary haha but we learn no way was a paying 500 quid from a garage I did the same pipes pump and union and fluid 90 quid ebay rather have a 3 day struggle.
Success everything on steering never been lighter.. just concerned I only put half a bottle in the tank and it hasn't dropped the level I don't know why steering is absolutely lovely just hope it has gone through no leaks though don't want a dry pump.. and no loud noises and got car upto temp..
hi. I have a volvo v50 with same motor as the ford focus but in my case the leak started at the electrical connector at 7:26. do you think the motor is shot or can i replace connector that goes to the motor. would appreciate a reply
Hey there. Thanks for the messages. I recycled the old pump . I would say that you can unscrew the electrical socket and replace that. If it’s leaking around the Threads, then possibly you could reseal it with ptfe tape, or it may be a rubber seal . If the socket has cracked, then you’ll defo need a new one. Try that first, otherwise the pump is £50, plus you may need a new hard line etc etc (much more effort and cost ).
@@griceyboy hi, thank you. i managed to find the sparepart and ordered it. it looks like it broke on the inside. hopefully it is fixed when i change it :)
@@georgejexter hey, I’m not sure as I only did this task, then gave the car back - all is great on it. Most cars have two fuse boxes, one under the bonnet usually..! Good luck and spit on that thang!
Hey, I am doing the same job on my mk6 fiesta at the moment and am having desperate issues to do with the pipe blowing out of the union bolt. I have bought a aftermarket pipe from eBay and no matter how many times I do it the pipe always blows out of the union. I have not been using the same union bolt multiple times and the pipe only seems to blow out when the weight of the car is on the wheels. Any thoughts?
@@jackhooper426 hey there, thanks for the message. So on the Focus and all these union bolts, you have to screw the bolt only into the pump, and torque the bolt up to spec. Then you add a little oil lubrication onto the metal hard line/pipe, then you just have to push this metal line in really hard and it will “pop” as it slips fully in/home, then give it a pull and it won’t come back out. Then on the Focus, you then bolt the metal line down on a bracket, this just secures everything in place. Then fill with oil, and do the bleed process (with wheels in the air). If your line is blowing out, and it’s new and you haven’t modified anything, then I reckon you just aren’t pushing it in hard. If you remove the union bolt, you could lay it on top of the hard line, then mark the metal pipe with a sharpy. Then when you push the hard line in , you can check the line pushed in to your sharpy mark (just an idea ).
@ thanks for the quick reply. See the thing is when I have installed the pipe I used the hammer and screw driver method and gently tapped it in. The first time I did it, yes I did feel a click but all the other times no click and same result (blowing the line out). I have my suspicions it may be to do with the pipe not being an exact fit and have ordered a Ford line. Have you ever heard of a line blowing out as a result of a bad pump? This is the only other thing I could think of. Thanks again for reply :)
@ hey, that’s very odd, once it clips in, and it’s then bolted securely in place, then that’s it - they shouldn’t leak for maybe 70k, that sort of lifetime. The union bolt is one use only and also the pipe really should be one use only as the olive on the end should deform to seal . So I’d do what you are doing - have another go with two new parts. Then just be sure to push the pipe in dead straight, with the lubricant, then just do it quietly so you hear and feel it click into place . Then give it a tug and bolt it down (assuming your car has this extra clamp to secure the pipe to the engine area ). Good luck!!
@@louisronan5903 hello, so you loosen the bottom bolt, that’s a pivot bolt. Then remove the top two and then the alternator just swings downwards a bit, allowing you to get the belt off easily. When you put it back together, you can basically do up the bottom bolt (not fully tight), then lever the alternator up to its position with something like a short crow bar or jack handle etc, then get the bolts in a few turns, then tighten them up and the belt should tension up correctly. Spin the engine to check it’s all on right (should be obvious). Good luck! I’ve got the front arms to do this weekend, so you may see my 2nd Focus video…
@@louisronan5903 hey there, I just left the Teflon washer how it was positioned when it arrived, then screwed that into the pump and torqued it up (I think it was around 30NM), then that was it. I saw the car yesterday to do the front arms and zero leaks on the pump :£

But no idea on a Volvo - sorry.
