Our founders were big fans of Cesare Beccaria (1766) who amongst other things was a proponent of ownership of arms by individuals.

The problem with their logic is that it holds some truth to it. Even if it's only 20% of truth and 80% a lie....they run with the 20% like it's 100. It is true white supremacy exists. I have been on the receiving end of it way more than I like to admit as black woman. But the 80% lie is that it only exist among white men. I have seen obvious racism towards white friends experienced by Asians, black folks, native Americans and latinos. It's uncomfortable to watch and it's just as hurtful...all that to say, anyone is capable of racially discriminating against others or upholding their race above others. It's the human condition.

Banning guns doesn't stop bad people from getting guns. It stops good people from being able to defend themselves.
It does make it more difficult for those people to get them though. As evidenced by the countries that do have strict gun laws. It drives the price up massively when it isn't easy to get them legally. But I did have someone say to me the other day about the fact that America gets a lot of illegal stuff smuggled through its land borders. Which is tbf actually a good point

Put a huge tax stamp on all gun purchases so the criminals have a harder time getting guns, only the criminals who don't obey the laws get guns, they go around extorting and racketeering for money so they're the only people in town that can afford the guns... the country has to create specific militarized task forces just to deal with Al Capone and a bunch of gangsters with submachine guns because they decided to prevent law abiding citizens from being able to afford guns? My take away from any of these “man on the street” interview videos is that 98% of people know almost nothing about the thing they are supporting, and an alarming majority can’t simply come up with the reason for why they are even standing there.

Anyone who opposes armed guards and better security in schools doesn't actually want to prevent school shootings. They just want to ban guns and use school shootings for emotional appeal to help then achieve it. School shootings usually end with the police showing up and taking out the shooter. Having an armed guard present will reduce the response time to seconds instead of 10 minutes. Increased security like single entry points and airlock doors will help as well. I've had this exact conversation with multiple people and that's what I've concluded. Anti gunners don't want direct safety improvements in schools because to stop school shootings would throw a wrench in their anti gun agenda.

As a Colorado citizen who lives in a rural mountain town, gun control only hurts me and those around me. In my area, the biggest threat to life is wild animals. If you look at Colorado as a whole, the majority of gun owners live in rural areas such as I do and the majority of mass shootings are in the cities where the majority of these people live. It's cliché, but its true: If you criminalize guns, only criminals will have guns.
