    I bought the EOS R last August and I've loved it since. I'm mostly a landscape hobbyist, but I've shot sports and wildlife too. It's very capable, sure it doesn't have the highest capture rate or the most advanced autofocus but it tracks very well. The key for me is to use the right AF mode/area, typically I find single point and keeping that point on your main player/subject in servo does a fine job. My biggest reason for going with the EOS R is Canon in my opinion has the best market (by availability and price) for used lenses and accessories. I've been doing some videography lately and find the 4K crop whilst slightly harder to work with is fine with a wide lens i.e. 16-35mm. That said I also find shooting 1080 with no crop and scaling to 4K can look almost as good as true 4K.

      In terms of lenses I didn't have the cash to spare the for best RF glass as a hobby photographer who isn't earning money from it. For what a new RF 24-70mm F/2.8 costs I managed to get (good used) a Canon 24-70mm F/2.8 L MK I, 70-200 F/2.8 MK II and a 16-35MM F/2.8 MK I. These are all EF lenses and work beautifully with the RF/EF adapter, and they cover pretty much all types of photography. I recently traded my Canon 16-35 for a Sigma 50mm F/1.4 ART due to ultra wide not suiting my shooting style. The sharpness of the 50mm Sigma is absolutely superb and I say matches Canon L sharpness. It's a great focal length to walkaround with and do street photography. I've recently seen the TTArtisan 50mm F/0.95 lens and fallen in love with what I've seen of it, definitelty high on my list for next purchase for night/street.

      @jasonodine  Год назад

      @@northernaurora_ Absolutely brotha, always happy to chat with you all! I haven’t tried the Sigma 50mm ART, mainly fearing it will be too heavy to fly on a gimbal. Believe it or not I’ve never tried out a Canon L lens either ha. 3 years into the game and still haven’t invested in one yet!
      Is the TT Artisan a macro lens? I can’t even imagine looking at that shallow of a depth of field, that must be insane!

    I see people talking about the R8… well, now that it’s out and we know the specs, for me it doesn’t make sense. I waited, hoping Canon would put out a full frame not as expensive as R5, but with more than 24 megapixels. I shoot landscape, people, and I print and frame LARGE images. I understand the R8 has better autofocus, a newer sensor, etc. But the thing is they still hobbled it by not giving it IBIS, by not giving it a second card slot, and by not giving it at least 30 megapixels. so until I can pick up something like an R5, I think my best bet for what I’m doing is to pick up a clean second hand EOS R, or heck just a new one. The only thing I was holding out for what is the hook the canon would put out a mid range R body, instead of a watered down R6, which the R8 basically is.

    • @jasonodine
      @jasonodine  Год назад

      I agree, the R8 had so much potential to change the game, but they short changed it. I believe if they gave it the ability to use LP-E6N batteries it would’ve been an amazing camera that would truly replace the need for an EOS R. I am tempted to get an R8 for the sake of making RUclips content for it aha 😆

      Hey, LivingProofFitness, thank you first and foremost. I’d be glad to share my settings and setup! So I don’t shoot in CLOG, I shoot in the Standard Picture Profile. LOG slows down my workflow for some reason.
      For the music video, I only used the EF 50mm f/1.8, also known as the ‘Nifty Fifty’. I prefer it far more over the Sigma 18-35 for the DOF (Depth of Field) and lighter weight. In addition to that, The EOS R was on my DJI Ronin S for some of the shots as well. Finally, I used a LUT from the ‘Infinity LUTS’ package that I found on a RUclipsr’s page.
