A: He must be real. How else could you so readily recognise his picture?
Basic moral is that when your story become legend, told and re-told again, it does not matter if you were ever real or not, you now exist.

An anti-hero tends to be someone who is not fully a villain, but still does bad things and pursuit of a noble goal. In some cases, an anti-hero is a bad guy who can still act nice and decent at some times. Silver from treasure planet would be an example of an anti-hero
