I really love these young men don't want you to think I am critical I am not ,get out of your church setting go listen to secular musicians the church has come a long way ,understand I am not trying to dishonor your efforts the best music is not in church that is a observation not judgement please keep growing keep working on your color & balance goto hard rock .I LOVE BETHEL I went to new life in Jax seen Don Potter Leonard Jones Suzy Yaraei I walked all the way up 3 flights to the sound man & told him what he did was awesome if you are a pastor invest money in. them send to school send them to conferences even secular shows if you go see Eric Clapton in front of 10,000 or some great jazz shows learn .if you are going to buy a small system don't know what to buy please don't go to a music store go to a good southern gospel group look at their gear or a jazz group

the guy that gets the most grief in the church is the sound I understand you guys are good now go listen to Eric Clapton Katie kissoon this is for the sound guys not anybody else there is a difference you guys are good the guys that mix that were world-class When someone tells me you played the drums great I think then say compared to who 😁 Steve gadd lol my point is those that compare themselves by themselves are not wise if you want to learn go to Hard Rock Universal churches have a tendency listen to other churches if you want to be great at running sound go to school work in the studio then come back to church and run sound the sound desk that we have now are very complicated and Technical I compliment any sound guy that does what they do it is a not just a skill it is a craft you can't make a racehorse out of a jackass buy good sound gear you can make a great band sound terrible you can't make a bad band sound good with a $200,000 sound desk lol
the biggest issue in a church setting for me as a drummer is hearing the cymbals or high hat & that glass lol go to club's listen & learn there are no lead instruments unless you are playing lead part it is BALANCE & COLOR in the real secular world of music when I see the cymbals rocking & don't hear them tells me that your sound guy is lost . I watch bethel can't ever hear the cymbals ,if you are a sound tech drums are not a back ground instrument the church I play at I could not put up my cymbals lol they would not be noticed remember COLOR & BALANCE
the next time you play your drums in church put your cymbals on the floor see if they are noticed lol
+Larry Fries The gold fish bowls for drummers are really to keep their sweat off the rest of the band.. Nah, really the glass bowls are to address a problem with the hall - normally huge reverberation and to control volume. Tins should always be heard as they are the major high frequency component. Without them the sound can feel dull and lifeless. Bethel probably have 3 different desks for each service. One for FOH, one for monitors and the third one for broadcast sound. Each is presumably mixed by a different engineer. Often the broadcast element suffers as priority is always on FOH and band monitors. The mothers room or cry room is usually just a ropey stereo feed. Chat to your sound guy, he will be able to sort it out for you...
+David Graham David I play drums as for sweat on the band lol they us in ears as for the you have 50 ft ceiling in that huge you can't even hear the drums the problem is really you are not a drummer maybe ? I am almost all churchs are clueless you have that cornered get this real clear its color & balance if the drummer dont set up the cymbals would not make a diff would it your Mike setting on the cymbals are terrible see( tower of power ) you drums are flat my friend who has played in 20 piece show bands just laughs when he sees that you are not in the real music world compare you self with them last thing you are an amateur when you see the cymbals rocking turn them up drums are not back ground plus the cymbalz go to hard rock over all I give you guys a b grade David Garibaldi is in the hall of fame for drummers putting glass in front of his is lol it won't happen TOWER OF POWER do I love Bethel yes one of the greatest worship churches in America don't take all like I hate what you do there actually I love it you get a B for sound turn up the cymbals

I was looking for the verses where it tells us to spend all this money on the sound reinforcement, paid musicians, and how @ the 2:30-ish mark you elevate these elements to the heights of leadership and then tell a story about how more money spent on production equals more holy spirit showing up? Please people.... this is not the gospel the Bible talks about. Think about what is being said here. This is coming from someone who for the last 15 years was part of a "machine" that preached this contrary gospel to the Bible. I was a paid musician in a church of 10,000 members.
Zachary King I think you’re taking it wrongly.
I’m sure Brian Johnson is aware that sound systems and spending more money’s does not mean more Holy Spirit. But bad sound can distract..just like anything “for God” that’s ill prepared on our part can do more harm than good.
And the Bible does talk about playing skillfully in Psalm 33:3
I understand where you’re coming from, but we have to be careful not to be over spiritual in things that are just naturally facts
Everyone is more drawn to good sound than bad...good food than bad etc
And equipment is a good way to help deliver those things
