Haha I feel the same way. I'm kinda conceding that I won't be getting a Boxster anytime soon. I've been looking for one in the Memphis area for like 8 months and not really any decent ones I would consider have popped up. 02-04 Boxster S with a manual is what I'm stuck on..
Im just a regular joe with a honda accord, but was afforded the chance to test a boxter a few years back (2003) it was the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel! kudos to porsche, now back to reality :-)
The Boxter created quite a stir when it was revealed it was well received and to this day is still a great modern classic. Of course there are those that were less excited about the Boxters peak power and liquid cooling. Not surprising, when the 911 was first introduced many were less than excited by it's style, air cooled engine and modest power, as well as the engine placement. Even as a successor to the 356, which already made such traits work well. Porsche. You either love them or you don't understand them?
Bought my wife a Red Boxster around 2000. It was a hoot to drive, but I alwayd felt like the red headed step child. Glad to see it deserves some respect. Got it up to 120mph and it was like riding a magic carpet. It was awful in stop and go traffic and on a long trip with the road noise. Paid alot more than $10K. LOL. May revisit this subject after I pay off my Jeep.
Can the media STOP (you for one) saying everyone hates the headlights of the 996?? Stop talking BS . And please tone down the american commercial add soundtrack. Best regards.
My 99 996 runs with C7 Stingrays at PCA events. The 996 is truly the best performance value in Porsche today. Don't believe me, check out my vids to see what a novice in an $18k car with some mods can do.
at 4:30 you can see that the seam of the Boxster softtop does not fit correctly into the designated plastic strip. just look at the rear top part of the arch. My car does the same. You can easily pop it back into place but it is still annoying. Anybody know a fix for that?
It all comes down to suspension and tires. Put some new shocks and sticky performance tires on the older steeds and it would make a world of difference.
Of course the 996 is fastest. It is also the easiest to drive fast. A 930 is definitely faster than your Boxster, but requires a skilled driver, which you don't have. Oh well. The SC should be about equal if not faster, which I know from autocrossing both. But again, you really have to know what you're doing to get the most from an air-cooled 911. PCA Driver Skills will help with that. Looking forward to future videos where you have fun AND demonstrate some excellent Porsche driving.
Well a 3.3 911 Turbo did 1:43 at Big Willow vs 1:41.3 for an Iroc 350 Camaro with pro drivers. A soft luxurious DB11 did 1:30 which shows how far technology has come.
"Widow Maker." Philadelphia Flyers goalie Pelle Lindbergh died in his 930 slant nose. He'd recently won the Vezina trophy, who knows, might of taken the Flyers on a run for the cup, we'll never know.
Nik Brudar I don't really care about the country. I'm just wondering if brute force of horsepower can overcome superior handling on this tight course. I would guess that it would be fairly close.
+Nik Brudar not a question of engineering. you cannot compare a small sport car , to a big roomy very comfortable muscle car with large trunk, have you a brain
Of course it's a ridiculous comparison, that's why they call them "mash-ups". But you know, I'm expecting to see that video one of these days. They are being suspiciously silent on this. If you owned both a 996 and a Hellcat, had regular access to a racetrack, wouldn't you test them both out? Hell, I'd bring the Jeep along too, and whatever else they own.
Nice, just one thing, it's a shame having those Porsches in that contditions, filthy, swirled paint, etc., those cars need some love, a good detailing.
I have a 996 Carrera Cabriolet for sale $17,999 if someone is looking! (Only reason I'm selling is I got a 996 Turbo) in Greenville SC area. It is a great and fast car!
Huh? I looked at a lot of grey market 930s and not a single one was "de-tuned". Euro-spec 930s generally had higher HP and nobody in their right mind would "de-tune" one. Assuming that is even possible. If anything that 930 had boost increased since that was a favorite way to make a lot more power for very little effort.
Na mate. I have a standard euro SC and at track days they won’t let a 930 run with us - they are that fast. They can keep up with early 2000’s turbos easy and with a simple 964 cam and 1 bar spring they go from 300-320 hp this close to 400 with 460 foot pounds. Total rocket ships. That one looked like a barge to me.
Sad design on the Boxster you can't cool the engine by opening the engine hood bec there is none. Engine boxed in with little no outside cool air used to cool it.
I had 2000 Boxster S and yes it was a blast overall but the potential engine issues always worried me. I then bought an unmolested black 82 930 and it was so rock solid compared to the Boxster! The engine was laggy below 2500 and the turbo came on all at once but it was the coolest car ever. I only wish it had a 5 speed and bigger more modern brakes. There is a video or two of it on my site.
+primipulus Lusitano definitely more reliable and probably faster but not better to drive, much more snappy oversteer. The Boxster is pure joy to drive at the limit (and below too)
True but the Boxster IS a Porsche and mid-engined and not at all unreliable if maintained. I'm not saying it's as reliable as a Honda it's just not at all "unreliable"
I bet if you dyno'd your Porsche you'd find that few horses have escaped since its creation, if any. These modern German engines practically don't seem to wear if you keep fresh oil in them.
Your track rewards nimble, naturally aspirated cars. Take all four to something with more room, fewer turns and longer straights and the results will likely be different..
Sorry but I know for a fact that 930 would beat that 996 and smash the boxter with the right driver, he was afraid to push the 930, no disrespect all wonderful cars
+Jeff K You could drive that 81 Carrera for two years and get paid for doing so when you sell it for a profit. The 2016 911 will lose $30K by the time you sell the 81 Carrera. A big enough loss to buy that base 996 and the 2.5 Boxster. Buying new Porsches is just like throwing money out an open window.
+porscheoscar I don't think of cars as investments and I'm not in a position to buy a porsche so no worries. I guess if you make enough money to easily buy a new 911 a 30k depreciation is no bid deal.
+Josh Bosh I do too Josh, he was a good friend, a hell of a guy and driver. I feel honored and humbled to try to fill his shoes, I don't think we will ever be over the loss...
This is like who cooks the best burger. Just because you race doesn't the mean your good at it. An accomplished driver would take that 930 and beat you like a rented mule.....
Nah. Pro drivers are faster in a 350 Iroc Camaro than A 3.3 Turbo by 141.3-1:43 at Big Willow. A 1972 RS 2.7 did 1:54 at Sugo vs 1:38 for a 1995 F50. Technology just makes cars faster. I mean the fastest Lexus 4 cylinder SUV can edge a stock 930 around a track.
930 turbo is one of if not the most beautiful cars ever produced. It has the best butt this side of Jessica Biel.
the 996 is seriously under rated,
Εμένα μου αρέσει το 996 αλλα το 3600 πολύ καλοστημένο
These videos always make me want a Boxster more and more.
Haha I feel the same way. I'm kinda conceding that I won't be getting a Boxster anytime soon. I've been looking for one in the Memphis area for like 8 months and not really any decent ones I would consider have popped up. 02-04 Boxster S with a manual is what I'm stuck on..
996 FTW! Best budget Porsche ever
thanks for ditching the music when it counts
Nice episode and I was flabbergasted at how much quicker the 996 was, unbelievable!
great job! for those of you that can't wait, the drag race is at 8:49
Why did it take me 2 years to come across this great channel! Great vids!
great job! I absolutely love these Porsche series.
Im just a regular joe with a honda accord, but was afforded the chance to test a boxter a few years back (2003) it was the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel! kudos to porsche, now back to reality :-)
THATS WHY I LOVE MY 996 911!
Awesome series ! One day I will have a 996 like yours
Always enjoy the 996 videos..
Awesome episode!!
Oldies but goodies!
Real cars with real steering.

Porsche. You either love them or you don't understand them?
The older Porsche cars are hottt looking.
996 turbo is the best bargain in the Porsche market atm.
Four brilliant cars in one video⁉️ Roman, you're spoiling us‼️ 😘😍
Value, performance & look ratio the 986 wins easy. Best investment for pleasure for those who cannot afford the 911

would've loved to see a time for a 5spd 930.
That was a really good episode...
I love my 2.7 986
Production value just keeps improving. Good job guys!
Can the media STOP (you for one) saying everyone hates the headlights of the 996?? Stop talking BS . And please tone down the american commercial add soundtrack. Best regards.
Congrats Adam & Angela Jaspers, and RENNSTALL!

The 996 might be faster but its the least fun to drive. I recently sold my 996 and kept my 78 911SC to drive daily and my 97 Spec Boxster to race.
A 928 would probably beat the Boxster, but not the 996.
I'll put my money on the 996 but could be close with the 930.
The track results were quite predictable. No way any of those were going to beat the 996!
at 4:30 you can see that the seam of the Boxster softtop does not fit correctly into the designated plastic strip. just look at the rear top part of the arch. My car does the same. You can easily pop it back into place but it is still annoying. Anybody know a fix for that?
It all comes down to suspension and tires. Put some new shocks and sticky performance tires on the older steeds and it would make a world of difference.
964 all time fave
996 needs at least 20mm reduction in height.
I'm assuming the 996 would match or beat the 930 Turbo in the drag race portion?
Of course the 996 is fastest. It is also the easiest to drive fast. A 930 is definitely faster than your Boxster, but requires a skilled driver, which you don't have. Oh well. @@adampetten5349 αν μετρήσουμε μια 911 gt3 992 θα πέσει κάτω από 1.28
996 was always going to win
it should titled overrated vs underrated Porsches...always wanted a 996 turbo!
996 all the way. Everything else is slow and everything else after is faster lol.
Please remove the Renstall link as they no longer exist and this link is trying to get you to install some chrome security addon
"Widow Maker." Philadelphia Flyers goalie Pelle Lindbergh died in his 930 slant nose. He'd recently won the Vezina trophy, who knows, might of taken the Flyers on a run for the cup, we'll never know.
Have you recorded a time in the Challenger Hellcat? I wonder if it can beat the 996 around this track.
of course can't. American engineering vs German ..
Nik Brudar
I don't really care about the country. I'm just wondering if brute force of horsepower can overcome superior handling on this tight course. I would guess that it would be fairly close.

+goatmonkey2112 I suspect the 996 would embarrass the Hellcat on a tight track like this.
Nice, just one thing, it's a shame having those Porsches in that contditions, filthy, swirled paint, etc., those cars need some love, a good detailing.
Too bad the boxster is not 3.2L S
I have a 996 Carrera Cabriolet for sale $17,999 if someone is looking! (Only reason I'm selling is I got a 996 Turbo) in Greenville SC area. It is a great and fast car!
Brilliant. Thanks
It is impossible to get a track that is less advantageous for the 930. A longer straighter more classic 3-5km track and bye bye to the others.
I would choose the 930 turbo over every other car.
930 is gray market & has blinker signal on side of car & rear fog lamp with less emissions . That a 911 turbo which is detuned .

I owned a 77 911S and thought it was fun to drive
Sad design on the Boxster you can't cool the engine by opening the engine hood bec there is none. Engine boxed in with little no outside cool air used to cool it.
Is it just me or is the "expert" driver missing apexes everywhere?
930. I love it. Make it cheaper :P
I had 2000 Boxster S and yes it was a blast overall but the potential engine issues always worried me. I then bought an unmolested black 82 930 and it was so rock solid compared to the Boxster! Roman is sooo cool.
16,000 they’re worth a lot more than that now
This gen boxster was a good value until the Honda s2000 came along and outperformed it
Except now the Porsche is cheaper xD
Because the Honda s2000 has retained its value and is more reliable "than a wooden stove..."Exactly why one should get the s2000.
+primipulus Lusitano definitely more reliable and probably faster but not better to drive, much more snappy oversteer. The Boxster is pure joy to drive at the limit (and below too)
the s2k is an amazing car and way more reliable then a boxter
True but the Boxster IS a Porsche and mid-engined and not at all unreliable if maintained. I'm not saying it's as reliable as a Honda it's just not at all "unreliable"
those poor paint jobs are in need of a buffing and tlc
I bet if you dyno'd your Porsche you'd find that few horses have escaped since its creation, if any. These modern German engines practically don't seem to wear if you keep fresh oil in them.
+Martin Espinoza
modern?
Jeff K yes, anything from the late 1990s or newer.
Nice way to sell your own, buddy was talking not driving. Every car brought for the test was for sale, never going to really try on a track/hot lap.
Your track rewards nimble, naturally aspirated cars. Take all four to something with more room, fewer turns and longer straights and the results will likely be different..
I don't think being a mile above sea level rewards naturally aspirated cars that much.
Sorry but I know for a fact that 930 would beat that 996 and smash the boxter with the right driver, he was afraid to push the 930, no disrespect all wonderful cars
$100,000 for a 1981, no thanks I will take a 2016 911 instead. I'm guessing they've made a couple improvements.
+Jeff K usually happens when people desire a specific model. Once everybody who wanted that model gets it, then it will go down in price.
Yeah but the 2016 looks like shit compared to the old one.
+Jeff K Yes I agree with you Jeff. And you could probably find a boat load of newer "cars" for 100g or less that would beat it as well.
+Jeff K You could drive that 81 Carrera for two years and get paid for doing so when you sell it for a profit. The 2016 911 will lose $30K by the time you sell the 81 Carrera. I'll take a 911 SC cause I'm not racing. I don't need a Boxter, I need a 911.
I still miss Justin Wilson
+Josh Bosh I do too Josh, he was a good friend, a hell of a guy and driver. I feel honored and humbled to try to fill his shoes, I don't think we will ever be over the loss...

I've driven every one of them.
The 97 boxster is the slowest.
Hands down.
That guy can't drive.
This guy doesnt even know how to drive........
A 2005 Boxster could faster than all these
Probably not, since the 996 had 300 HP, at least 20-60 more than the basic 2005 Boxster, unless you go with the Turbo S, then you're right.
Το τελευταίο 996 με το 3600 μοτέρ είναι ακόμα πιο γρήγορο από το boxter του 2005
Classic boxter?!!!! BAHAHAHAHA!!!
Too much Porsching around.
Bojack Porscheman disagrees.
Wrong Boxter came out in 95
