    Nick Murray is the perfect example of an adult that has maintained his childhood sense of fun and humor without the "real word" changing him. Something I hope everyone takes note of.

    This man probably bought this car for next to nothing in 1994. He is a rich man now. These early Turbos are skyrocketing in value. Props to him for holding on to it all these years. Such an awesome car.

      They weren't cheap when they came out! They have appreciated in value to be sure but Porsche has never been a poor man's car, so 'next to nothing' is a stretch.

    A beautiful machine perfectly maintained - and loved.
    The people who want to take these wonderful machines off the street will never know the pure exhilaration, or joy, of driving one of these moving works of art.

    I have a pristine 1979 Porsche 930 that I have maintained myself for 20 years. This is a total driving machine that will not be for sale until I die. I love my car and would have no other. It was in a showroom in Dallas,TX for 10 years and then in a showroom in Springfield , MO for 7 years and then I bought it. This is my favorite car and it will not be sold. I use it for my psycho therapy on bad days. Only my direct family or friends can drive it. Mileage presently is 27,816 today. Read and weep. Ed Saylor

    i think the 930 turbos if left clean will reach above 100K and above in 10 years, they are pretty cars, and frankly i think their owners can't help but drive them so the ones that go un touched will be rare and quite valuable.

    That is one thing that modern turbos don't have -- the big *zoom* when the turbo kicks in. They manage boost better than the old cars and you just don't get *hit* like you did in the old ones. They're smoother and safer, no doubt, but that old-school *feel* is missing.

    One of the baddest cars ever! When I was 15 learning to be a Plumber my boss had a red with tan interior 1979! He sold it to one of the workers that had no idea about Porsche's! It had something wrong with the turbo and I loved and i knew quit a bit even as a young kid. I actually drove it down the street he was so mad at me i didn't even have a permit but I had to drive it. If only I used my head I could of probably said I'll work for free just give me the car. Or we could of worked out some kind of a deal. It was guard red beige interior had polished fuch's on it and that 930 wide wide body. I always kick myself that's one car you get and never let go!!!

    All that talk about over boost and he wouldn't turn her up for ya!? Nice video though! Love the cream, and those wheels! Was worried the 'widow maker' feel would be gone when the owner said boost came on at 2500, nice to see it old school and laggy like it should be - I for one enjoy driving a boosted car, I think it's great where turbo technology is, and is going. But this car must have been an absolute gem to drive!

    The way the wind goes over the hood and roof and right into the inter cooler it's one of the best car designs in history! Plus the faster you go the more pressure on the wing and it just plants the car to the ground.

  • @Kneedragon1962
    @Kneedragon1962 9 лет назад +2

    'Widow maker' - yes. Up until the 959 (which was the next one) they still had a rear suspension layout based on the VW Beetle. The 930 really showed that was not the way to go with modern low profile tyres, because the camber changed all over the place. And the folk lore / conventional wisdom was already set in stone that the 'problem' was the layout of the car, engine out the back. With the 959 they fixed it, that has modern suspension design, and all subsequent 911s have been like that. But now, 35 years later, we're still hearing experts lecture us about engine at the back and how that will kill you... Rubbish. The weight distribution of a modern 911 is much the same as a mid engine exotic, like a 458 or an Elise. And the modern ones no longer have bite-you-in-the-a$$ handling, but the legend is there for all time. The other reason it has a reputation, it was quite quick & powerful for a '79 car. Look to bikes for a moment. The original Kawa 900 got a rep like that, because it was just faster than anything people had used before. I wouldn't say it handled well, by modern standards, but it wasn't any worse than plenty of other bikes of the time. It was just rather quicker. It could and did bit you on the bum if you didn't know what you were doing. It did (like the Porsche) bite quite a few people, who then went away and figured out reasons why the accident was the fault of the car, not the expert driver... Think about it - the fellow who has just destroyed his brother / friend / neighbour's brand new Porsche, may not be the best source of accurate & honest appraisal. Lies have been told, lots of them...

    • @Kneedragon1962
      @Kneedragon1962 9 лет назад

      Henrik Hvitfeldt Really? I stand corrected. I thought they used a swing axle design based on the Beetle. I know they changed it rather dramatically with the 959. And I know camber would change rather dramatically on lift-off, and possibly toe-out as well. I have seen that demonstrated. You could watch the car go over a series of dips and watch the camber change all over the place, just like a beetle.

    • @moejr1974
      @moejr1974 9 лет назад

      +Kneedragon1962 Also to add the 959 was AWD. Std 911 turbos didn't get that till 95

    • @Kneedragon1962
      @Kneedragon1962 9 лет назад

      moejr1974
      True. Until quite recently, you could also get the GT2, which was a 911 T without the 4 wheel drive. (And the boost turned up a bit.) I hear they plan to do one more release of the GT2, on this generation of 911, but only near the end of its model run, so about 2017 or '18.

    • @Kneedragon1962
      @Kneedragon1962 8 лет назад

      Shane Barrios It sort of was and sort of wasn't. It was their supercar, cost no object. But it stayed very much with the 911 for layout and form factor and ... it was a 911 for the future, and future 911s were not exactly based on that one, but some parts found their way from the 959 to all the 911s that followed. The 4 wheel drive system, became standard on following turbos, and the rear suspension from the 959 became the basic rear suspension for all the 911s that followed. It was a completely new design, and it fixed pretty much all of what had been wrong with 911 rear-ends since the beginning.

Sunroof, Limited Slip, and Sport Seats. $62k out the door including Connecticut sales and the Federal gas guzzler tax ;-) Ordered in October, 1986 from the factory. Wonder if it is still on the road? As an owner of two air-cooled 911's (911SC and Carrera 3.2), having had five in the family ('72, '76 & '83) and having test-driven newer models, including the awesome 992, there's no way I'd go back to 60's technology, and lack of space.

    Beautiful Porsche, anyone thinking about one of these should have scored back in the 90's, prices crazy now.

    Look at the gauges always had the best lay out! Porsche 911 still my all time favorite car! If I could have any one it would be the GT 2 RS they made a couple of years ago. I'd take it in red with the carbon fiber hood/trunk! 620 H.P. twin turbo!

    I know they have shot up like a rocket but they deserve it i love em. I also love BMW which I drive. Suspension all done all the bushings done by Power flex carbon fiber strut towers wheels spaced right. I'd give that Porsche a run for it's money through those hills and corners for sure. I have a few goody's done to my car's engine as well it goes good!

Drive a 3.3 turbo with Group B cams, 27/29 turbo, Ruf intercooler, one bar boost, keep in second gear and at 2.800, RPM floor it and you lads would no way have a conversation!!! a face distorting experience i can tell you !!!

    _I've seen a few videos of say rally cars, the the camera was set up in either the backseat or next to the guys head, like they have here. Wish more uploaders would start putting the camera here, particularly in videos when they are showing the handling capability of the car, because this camera position gives a better depth perception ratio of the road to car_
