I've been using this set for a year and I'm not going to switch to anything else so far. I really love the sound and mic quality. Especially, I like the fact that the headset doesn't clamp your head. I tried SteelSeries Arctis 7, Logitech G935, and HyperX Cloud Flight and all of the had crappy microphone and were too tight for me so I couldn't wear them without having a headache.
@@rajislam8081 depends. Whats your budget? Your cheapest (and best audio wise imo) option is gonna be the shp 9500s. I also own a pair of m50x and while I do love them dearly, I much prefer long gaming sessions in my shp 9500s. I've even tried aftermarket ear pads for the m50x and it still doesn't come anywhere close to the comfortability of the stock 9500s.
My boi zeos did this first but glad it's finally getting more recognition Edit: make sure you pair this up with like a Mayflower Arc and you are golden my dudes
Bought this combo a long time ago, love the headphones, but I have bought TWO vmoda mics that have the same bleed issue, that is even more prevalent when the mic is MUTED. Wires are crossed somewhere, it is NOT the mic (mouth piece) picking up sound from the SHP9500. My friends all say that I am pretty quiet on discord and such, but if I increase the mic volume anymore things from my games, videos, etc. all start to bleed into the chat. Again, even worse if I mute the mic, so much so that people are able to tell exactly what is being said in videos and my games. It drives me crazy. Having had enough of this, I finally decided to order an antlion modmic, so it is completely separate from the headphones. We'll see how it goes and I'll try to remember to update this comment, in case anyone is actually reading this. I've read about all sorts of issues with the mute switches on them though, apparently they either don't work at all or just lower volume essentially without actually MUTING the damn mic. Can't even trust a mute switch anymore, guess I'll have to get used to a keyboard bind if it is as bad as they say. There was about two options I found for detachable mics, the antlion and another more expensive one from audio-technica both with reviews speaking of the mute switch problem. ~$60-80 for these just seems like robbery. I absolutely want to keep using open back headphones though. I can game all day if need be with these, if I go back to noise canceling cups, I'll die lol. I still remember my old logitech g330 headset. Would love to have a standalone version of that mic for the SHP9500. Never had an issue or any complaints about that mic. EDIT 5/1/2022 - Forgot to come back to edit my experience with this, I apologize. Have an updated take on the antlion mic in the comments below =).
@@tomgroen_ In short, yes, it solved the bleed issue ofc, but all the problems I read about in reviews were correct. They are manageable though, the mute switch doesn't work 100%, loud noises will go through, but I am just using a mute bind now instead. The voice quality is average, according to my friends at least. It definitely picks up more background noise than the VMODA did, but it isn't a deal breaker imo. Blaring loud volume on my headset will cause the mic to pickup, which is expected, but it hasn't been an issue otherwise. Overall, I am satisfied, but I can't say the quality matches the price tag. Wouldn't recommend it unless you are having issues similar to mine; the options were pretty limited for these stand alone attachable mics.
@@Jbeasty1990 Sounds good! I'm looking into buying the sony 1000mx4 for my everyday usage. Also I want to use it for gaming a few hours a week. Therefore I need an (wired) attachable mic, since the Ps4 does not support the mic from the sonys. Which mic would you recommend?
@@tomgroen_ Imo, you should probably give the VMODA a try first, as it is the far less expensive option and the the quality between the two is similar. You also don't have to worry about applying the adhesive connector for the antlion. If you run into similar issues as me with bleeding and whatnot, just make sure you buy from Amazon or somewhere that has easy returns. YMMV =).
I have owned "gaming" headsets for over a decade, took the plunge into 9600 for 68 USD, and I see why people shit on "gaming" headsets, they are incredibly inferior with a vastly inflated pricepoint
@@ybbetter2315 how was it ? also i got question do you need amp for it? its my first pure headphone and not a "gaming headset" , is it good for valorant?
@@K4zuki1 it’s really good bro And honestly You don’t need a amp and it’s way better than “gaming headphones” I play a lot of r6 and I can hear a lot of footsteps so I think you can use this on valorant ( even on elden ring the sounds and music bosses sound clean af)
So nice to hear that after owning a SHP9500 for over two years, it is still one of the best bang for your buck "headset" available to date. I'm still very happy with it. I did have to replace the earpads but that was relatively easy to do. The ones I have right now (the Shure HPAEC940 pads) are also a tiny bit better than the stock ones in my opinion. Oh and by the way, you can easily remove the headband section to clean it. Just pull out from the L and R plastic pieces.
Thanks for sharing this information! I've been asking the following question on a few other comments here: Can you remove the ear pads and soft headband pad and put them in the washing machine, maybe in one of those mesh bags for delicates? I've been watching the prices on these headphones for months and checking out all sorts of reviews and that's really my only concern is that the cloth pads will get dirty fast and stay that way.
@@Aaron_Lesse I actually washed the earpads and headband not too long ago. You can definitely do so. But do use a delicates bag and/or a couple of towels to make sure nothing gets damaged. Also, use a low temperature wash setting.
@@soacespacestation8556 Not sure what touching grass has to do with it, but it fully depends on your environment. If there’s a lot of noise, don’t go for an open back headphone. I've literally owned this combo since 2015, and wow it's a great thing. I think I got the headphones on sale for $45 too. I can easily say I've never been tempted by hyper X or anything similar.
all of the complaints about the light clamping force just means they are great for those of us with fat heads. owned a pair for 2 years now, zero fatigue with 8+hours of use. highly recommend.
Have been using this for the last 2 years! and when it wears of would do it again! One important thing about this headset is its performance is very much dependent on the output quality. So it will work better with better sound cards...
Agreed, I have the same ones, and when I was a Windows user I had an Asus Xonar DG sound card pushing them, but sadly that card does not work well under Linux, so I had to switch over a boom stick headphone amp to drive them with a small USB cable powering the portable amp, but it at least allows for a headset with a 4 pole mic if needed.
I'm seriously thinking about picking these up. I plan on trying them out, plugging straight into my motherboard which is an ASUS ROG Strix B550-A Gaming board. That board is reputed to have high sound quality and sounds pretty good through my $100 sound bar and subwoofer.
I've been using this very combination for over 2 years now and couldn't be more satisified with the price to performance ratio it has going on. I've tried quite a few headsets from Logitech and Rosewill and they all either broke or had major issues with comfort after hours of use. There was a long time when these were no longer in stock at both Newegg and Amazon (US), so it's nice to see that they're replenishing them. If I had to have some cons in regards to the headphones though, it is definitely the clamping force and how quickly it gets dirty or picks up fuzz. I can't even lean my head back before it starts to slide off of my ears. And the fabric material, while comfortable, is a fuzz and hair magnet that is almost impossible to clean. But even with those cons, if my current pair ever bite the dust, i'm going to get another pair all the same. It's that worth it imo.
Can you remove the ear pads and soft headband pad and put them in the washing machine, maybe in one of those mesh bags for delicates? @@Aaron_Lesse The earpads unfortunately are NOT removeable (on the version that I have, newer versions may differ) but the headband portion can be removed and should be machine washable on gentle. There are replacement earpads you could get that may be easier to remove and wash though. But that will require you to cut/tear off the existing ones possibly.
Nope. We contacted Philips and they're still replenishing the retail channels with these and the S-model. May be some regions have different availability. Amazon USA / Canada, Newegg, etc. all have these in stock.

Yep that's my exact setup had it about a year they sound amazing for the money. I always have people asking me what my mic is since its so crisp compared to other gaming headsets.
I have had these for about 8 months. Got them for 50 bucks. I love them. Only issue I had is that after 8 months, my big head has made that light clamping force less over time. Still would 100 percent recommend them. It has a very airy sound stage which is pretty crazy. I may buy another one.
Glad to see you finally check out the SHP9500. Such an amazing value for $60-70. You should check out the Fidelio X2HR next, which also connect with the vmoda boompro. They are better across the board, one of the best headphones under $500 IMO, and going for $125 right now which is absurd. Also, someone finally got an Acer X27 in :) Can't wait for that review!
I have SPH 9500 and was so impressed with them that i bought X2HR. After few day i returned them, because 9500 are more comfortable and has better sound imo.
3 years later it's still the best gaming headset under $200. It's unbelivable how the major gaming gear companies like Razer and Logitech are completely unable to match this performance at any price point. Even funnier the next step up from this under $300 is also a pair of audiophile headphones with this mic.

I have this, and I like it a lot so far. I'm using it with a USB soundcard, hyper x one that I used with my old headset. Seems like it eliminates a lot of noise while listening to loud music.
Got this combo for my wife a while back (just another Zeos fan here reporting for duty) and she likes it for the comfort and the mic. I'mma steal it sometime to listen to the SHP9500s again.
@@Nicholas-gq8pp yup this is good for foot step and since this is an open back soundstage is big so you can hear where they're coming from. This is a neutral sounding though so if you're a bass head this isn't the one for you but check out its older brother x2hr which is bass heavy.
back in the day i sold one of mine (i had 2) for $300 after a long shortage lol i can wear these cans for eternity without discomfort, i use equalizer APO to make them sound more neutral and a little more low end
That's exactly the headset I'm rocking right now and it's killer. Actually mine is even cooler because I bought my SHP9500 on Kijiji for cheap and got a V-Moda knockoff mic on AliExpress for pennies. I wasn't sure the AE mic would cut it but my voice sounds clear and full. Definitely the way to go if you can wait 2-4 weeks for your gear to arrive from the PRC.
Letzzdodizz isn’t this mic shit?? I have it and it’s been amazing but it’s already having problems less than 6 months use and apparently MANY people have issues with the mute not working then the voice getting very static and rly glitchy bad quality I’ve had one run in with this issue but it fixed itself, although it seems like it doesn’t last for a lot of ppl which is sad cuz it’s mic sound is sooo good
@@tinocabral4201 Yeah I have this same setup and as you said this mic just doesn't last, I've bought it twice and both of them just stopped working even though I was always very careful with them. I ended up getting a knock off of the mic from eBay. They were about half the price of the BoomPro and so far they've lasted longer although I wont be too surprised if they die at some point too
I did have to buy a 2nd mic after a 15months of use cuz the wire got kinked but the price of the mic for the quality of sound made it a non issue for me. I Remember on multiple occasions people asking what mic I was using cuz I sounded so clear. I must say that currently ive upgraded to a blue yeti mic and while that mic is better and also drives my headphones to sound louder. this set up in its price range right out of the box cant be beat. im still using these headphones with no need upgrade them. its just funny to see this set up start to get traction now even though the price has increased to 100$ when I bought it for 70$ 2 years ago lol thanks Zeos!!!!
I would recommend the HyperX Cloud Orbit S but it's very expensive at $330. It uses 100mm planar magnetic drivers made by the very high end brand, Audeze. Compared to most headphones which use 40-50mm neodymium drivers, these things sound incredible and have some awesome features like Waves NX 3D audio and head tracking. There's a $300 model that doesn't have the head tracking software too. The Audeze Mobius is another great one for PC but it's pretty much the same thing as the Cloud Orbit but it's $400. That's actually they're cheapest headset lol. They have headphones that cost more than $2,500 so they are def audiophile quality. I would say the HyperX Orbit is the closest you'll get to audiophile quality sound in a gaming headset. I currently own the HyperX Revolver and Arctis Pro + Gamedac and the Arctis Pro is def my favorite gaming headset I've ever owned. I've had 3 different HyperX headsets, Astro A50s, Turtle Beach Stealth 700, Sony Platinum, Razer Nari and a few others but the Arctis Pro has been my favorite for the last year I've owned it. Sound is fantastic, crisp and neutral with excellent, punchy bass and subbass. Really sharp highs and clear mids. There's a reason it has won best gaming headset from almost every single gaming and tech outlet. The Arctis Pro Wireless is awesome as well but if you're gaming on PC you're probly at a desk and don't need wireless. Plus u get better sound and features with the wired model, in addition to no interference or latency that wireless would have. I'll also mention that there are some really great sales on the Logitech headsets on Amazon right now. Like the G933 Artemis is only like $70 when it's normally $150+. Logitech is usually a pretty good choice for PC gaming
Thanks for this! After testing quite a few options, I've settled on this setup with one exception. I've added the Apple USB-C to 3.5mm dongle and it's perfect for this setup. For $8, it's a DAC AMP with more than enough power to drive the SHP9500's and sounds WAY better than my headphone jack on my computer.
It depends... i used to have this setup and around low to medium volume it doesnt leak into the microphone it's only very high volume the mic starts to detect sound
I don’t understand why one would want an open back for gaming? Seems like it would pick up all the noise around you, confusing you and also irritating teammates?
@@jeffrey4105 Because both music and soundstage are said to be better in games. I didn't have an open back headphone experience. They say don't use closed back if you don't have to. For example Sennheiser game one open back. But game zero closed back. My goal is not to buy inflatable headphones with player inscriptions. I don't want to give you $ 100 and just buy a headset that's good in the game. So it makes sense to take the microphone of the Philips shp9500 and the "V-moda boompro" next to it. Sorry, my English is not very good.
Sound does not bleed out that much to where the mic pick it up too, especially if you have noise cancellation on whatever device you are plugging into.
I can attest to these headsets jumping into the audiophile hobby a while back DAC+AMP+headset spending over $600+ for everything I keep on going to these for gaming. They are insanely easy to drive as well your onboard audio on Mobo is more then sufficient. O and there so damn comfortable! Can't go wrong for less then $100.

The game staging is excellent and it picks up everything and for music, they are fantastic. I love them and I would go as far to say that you could use them for studio monitors. Not good traveling headphones because, you hear all outside noise. They put a lot of headphones to shame in the $100-$500 range
After having it for 6 months and getting in to hip hop lately, i decided to put down my pride and use an equalizer. With APO/Peace "bass boost", i fell in love with it all over again and made it a much more pleasant gaming headphones. It sounds softer and the bass is a lot better for games and explosions. I realized that i had the perfect pairs all this time.
*i like the original cable, just use a separate mic on the desk especially since i connect it to a DAC that only support headphone and damn with a dac amp it just pushed the headphone to a whole new level*
I bought the Phillips SHP9500S Specifically to use with my Nintendo switch as I have two different Sennheisers I use for my desktop, and Koss headphones for my laptop. These are really good headphones for their price. What you covered about these headphones allowing you to hear the details of your environment very well is really true. In Splatoon 2, these headphones allow me to better hear someone walking or swimming up around me, even over the background music bumping. IMO the sound stage and the Highs, lows, and Mids are perfect for games that require you to better focus in on a select set of sounds or notes. While also giving you a good listening experience for all the good music for whatever game you're playing has to offer.
I had the mh752 and returned them for this exact setup. Mine were possibly defective? Literally every sound was picked up by the mic, so any sound from my headset was picked up by mic and everyone in discord would hear. The sound stage was eh. Overall I don't regret my decision going with shp9500 setup. I got shp9500 and vmoda mic for 65 from redditttt.
@@antonhelsgaun It's a little complex but I'll try to explain. I work and play from the same pc, so I'm always wearing my headset. While I work, I usually have music or a vid playing in the background. While the Phillips was great for music, the CM definitely has better bass and that just suits my music choices. Gaming wise, I feel like the CM had better directional audio as well, that's just my personal opinion. I play comp CS and Pubg. The mic picks up any and all background audio and while the CM isn't exactly brilliant in this area, I feel it's slightly better. Like I said, personal opinion. I love the CM's as much as I loved my HyperX Cloud II's. Unfortunately they broke.
If you feel that clamping is not enough, consider swapping the earpads. I use them with brainwavz hybrid pads, which are considerably thicker than stock pads: the headset doesn't wobble and the plastic grill doesn't the ears anymore.

You got to check out the Audio-Technica ATH-WS 1100iS, its $230 USD but is always on a perpetual sale going for $127. it's beautiful and sounds absolutely amazing and I think it deserves more attention. I own the 770iS version for almost 2 years and I've given it a heck of a time with a bit of abusive treatment, I can say these last, you may want to change the pads though but other than that it's worth the time. don't worry about the word "BASS" being thrown all over the box, it's not overpowering and it's not absent, it's right there when needed. the microphone is acceptable and I think it makes really great gaming headphones. so please give it a try and let others know about this wonderful headset.
Broke my original pair, bought two more when they were on sale. Also pair it with the vmoda boom mic, have been loving this set for years it feels like.
Currenly using a pair, they are quite comfy, battery life is not the best, mic is fine if you only use it to talk to your friends on discord and stuff like that, I like them, but if you do care about sound, obviously it will never beat any proper "audiophile" headphones. If you dont need wireless, definitely go for a proper headphones+mic tho
If that's a serious question (and I'm going to assume it is) the only thing the Arctis 7 has over the SHP9500 is wireless connectivity. In terms of pure sound the 9500 beats the Arctis 7 by a longshot. Though the SHP9500 are open back, if you want closed back the M40X or MH755 are your best options under $100
I have $200 Steelseries Prism Elites which are older than the arctis 7s but my Elites sound like someone put a bag over my head and I have zero directional awareness in game but they have more bass due to being closed back and a ton of sound isolation and clamping force. Compared to my headphones (Audio Technica ad900x) which are slightly more bass lite but similar imaging and soundstage to the SHP9500 that I've listened to side by side it's really no contest in gaming. Assuming you don't mind the wire, the decent amount of sound leak (about as much as talking to someone on the phone with the volume up and it up to your ear), and the ability to hold a conversation with someone with them on your head then go for it you wont be disappointed.

If you're considering this setup. Do yourself a favor and get a DAC. Even a cheap one will greatly help the sound. Im really surprised this wasnt brought up in the review.
Because these don't need a DAC. There's absolutely no reason to use one unless you have bad audio on your MOBO or you have headphones that require a DAC. Step 1 is listen, not "buy a DAC."
I never said you 100% needed a DAC, I said you would benefit from it. If you use multiple PC's or laptops it helps with holding the same consistently among them regardless of onboard sound.
These + FiiO E10k + mod mic. This has been my setup for 2 years now. It’s a great combo. I wish there was a bit more clamping force like my Bose QC25 but I can wear these comfortably for a couple hours still
I still use the FiiO, I just replaced my Mod mic for a boom mic (I think it was failing, it got really quiet), and I gave my bro the set of headphones, he still uses them. I use the Philips X2HR which is the upgrade (so to speak) from the SHP headphones. I learned that not all batches have removable pads, idk how to do it. I probably wouldn’t machine wash them but maybe a gentle hand wash. I use masking tape to get the gunk out
Great recommendation (attention irony): Headphones from the year 2013, which you can't even buy from us anymore... Also a bit late. I've been using the V-Moda microphone together with a Panasonic RP-HD10 as a headset since 2015.

Hey man, does the modmic meets your expectations?
YMMV =).

I did have to replace the earpads but that was relatively easy to do. The ones I have right now (the Shure HPAEC940 pads) are also a tiny bit better than the stock ones in my opinion. @@Aaron_Lesse I actually washed the earpads and headband not too long ago. You can definitely do so. But do use a delicates bag and/or a couple of towels to make sure nothing gets damaged. Also, use a low temperature wash setting.
Is the lack of noise isolation and cancellation an issue for you? Or do you not touch grass everyday?
@@soacespacestation8556 Not sure what touching grass has to do with it, but it fully depends on your environment. If there’s a lot of noise, don’t go for an open back headphone. all of the complaints about the light clamping force just means they are great for those of us with fat heads. owned a pair for 2 years now, zero fatigue with 8+hours of use. highly recommend.
I commented about reviewing this years back in one of your videos.
Finally you guys did it.
I've been watching the prices on these headphones for months and checking out all sorts of reviews and that's really my only concern is that the cloth pads will get dirty fast and stay that way.
Have this combo for 3 years now and came here just to confirm what I already know. They are a great headset combo. Strongly recommend.

I'll sum it up for you. You will never find 'audiophile quality' on a wireless headset.
@@Girz0r ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ truth

For $8, it's a DAC AMP with more than enough power to drive the SHP9500's and sounds WAY better than my headphone jack on my computer.

Crap now the price of that pair of headphones might go up I got to hurry up and buy some LOL
Fine fine. I am getting this combo. Almost went with the Senneheiser 500 open. Almost went modmic. Im watching you.
I put a foam cover on the tip, fixed a lot of issues
Broke my original pair, bought two more when they were on sale. Also pair it with the vmoda boom mic, have been loving this set for years it feels like.
I've had this exact set up for like 2 years lmao
seriously, how is this news lol
Has anything broken or is everything still holding up?
these are 170 on Amazon right now.. :(
This one against Arctis 7 wireless 2019? how does it compare
That's so funny,
Good one.
Assuming you don't mind the wire, the decent amount of sound leak (about as much as talking to someone on the phone with the volume up and it up to your ear), and the ability to hold a conversation with someone with them on your head then go for it you wont be disappointed.
arctis is garbage
Got mine on Ali for $80 a year ago, at that all sources mentioned that this line productions stopped. Glad they brought them back. Great headphones, I also recommend setting up Peace EQ, there're presets on reddit that boost bass and decrease the highs a little which makes sound even better
did the Chinese quality feel worse? I heard they have worse earpads. I'd appreciate if u can answer. I wanna pick them up too
@@horia1186 I have no way to compare as it's the only variant I got. Earpads felt nice and comfy, lasted till now, the gover started to unglue in one place. ordered custom replacement on Ali as well, waiting
Just bought this combo... All I can say is... Thank You!!! Very good information... This Mic Wow Nice are voices sound so natural and not like we are talking in the cup of are hand... if you know what I mean... I think you do... Thank you !!!
Finally you got your hands on the shp9500...ive been Rocking same heapdhone BUT my mic is modmic 5, cause why not. My shp9500 plug to cheapo Fiio E10k amp then to pc.
This was the headset combo 2 years ago that got me sold on open back headsets. It's been hard to go back up close back
why do you prefer the open back? thanks
I wish there was a bit more clamping force like my Bose QC25 but I can wear these comfortably for a couple hours still
Are you still using that setup today? Can the ear pads and head band be removed and machine-washed?
I still use the FiiO, I just replaced my Mod mic for a boom mic (I think it was failing, it got really quiet), and I gave my bro the set of headphones, he still uses them. I use the Philips X2HR which is the upgrade (so to speak) from the SHP headphones. I learned that not all batches have removable pads, idk how to do it. I probably wouldn’t machine wash them but maybe a gentle hand wash. I use masking tape to get the gunk out
Ma boy Zeos had this first, but let people know the truth about gaming headsets.
Your videos about audio gear are my favorites!
Great recommendation (attention irony): Headphones from the year 2013, which you can't even buy from us anymore...
Also a bit late. I've been using the V-Moda microphone together with a Panasonic RP-HD10 as a headset since 2015.
Been using this exact setup for years. Too good
Used this exact combo since 2016 till I upgraded to the 6xx this year. Now the GF uses it so I can vouche for longevity at least.
Also you can often find the 9500S on sale for $45-55 which makes it even better a value.
Koss porta Pro forever, cost about 40-50$ and playin superior +you can add mic of your choice itself.
Dan Stormy or just go KSC75x and you got a mic as well. Add headband for 3$ and you got a headset that is imo better than this combo but costs only 20$.
@@exol511 someone really needs to compare the SHP9500 to the KSC75 for games. Add to that closed-back performance.
Great headset. I've had mine for 3 years
I like light clamping force, i've tried headsets that HardwareCanucks said was "just right" only to be rubbing my jaw in pain from the clamp.
If price is not an issue, how do these compare to the Sennheiser PC37X? Imaging quality is my main priority.
I LITERALLY use this exact setup, and it is glorious
BAM! 💯
I wish you had mentioned that the headset didnt have seperate volume controls but asside from that I am excited. I hope this headset works well for me
I've been telling people for a while now that shp9500s and vmoda boom pro makes for an awesome headset
I managed to pick up 9500s for around $50 on newegg last year. The stock cable sucks, but with the vmoda it doesn't matter.
i have that combo, the headphones are great. the mic however was very quiet and stopped working after a few months. if you're gonna get the boompro, get it from aliexpress for half the price.
Have SHP9500 ( great for music ) but I rate Audio Technica's AD700X better for gaming, it's a lot clearer, more dynamic and better with subtle background noises.
I've been using this for a year now. I feel special.
SHP is ok for gaming, but if you want actual hifi that can also game you get KSC75/KSC75x with a parts express headband for round 20$.
Thanks to this review, I am going to try these out. Very excited. (:
another good headphones is the takstar pro 82, which most gaming headsets use as their oem.
been using the shp9500s and a 3$ mic from aliexpress for the last 3years , best setup for gamers out there
Do you have experience with them? Are they legit?
@@morrisnieuwenhuis2535 its legit not just a hype , only downside is the bass which i miss while listening to music , other than that best hp for gaming.
@@abirazad1093 Thanks for your response! What I meant to ask is whether the Aliexpress offerings of the shp9500 are the real deal or an counterfeit product? Have you bought on Aliexpress?
@@morrisnieuwenhuis2535 yes
