As a long time river boater, i have a suggestion for you if you are going to pull off and beach the boat for a bit, at clutch ahead speed, keep the motor in gear to keep the bow into the shore and the stern won't move either. I love your boat. I want to get something like this or make one. Be safe out there brother.
That's a great tip. I literally just figured it out on the last trip when Chloe needed to go water a tree, lol. I eased up to a steep bank and just left it slightly in gear, which I think that's the same as "Clutch ahead", correct me if I'm wrong. But, anyways it worked perfectly and kept the bow locked tight to the steep bank. that will be my go to move when she needs to disembark for a few minutes. I'm considering taking it down the Kerr navigation system and I can use all the river boat tips you've got. Thanks.

You can eliminate bugs indoors by placing a flashlight outside and turning off the lights inside. Give it a few minutes and you're all set after you close all the doors before turning on the lights inside.
Mathew: how about installing a few red lights around the cabin's interior so your night vision won't be so badly affected when cruising in the dark? Make each one separately switched and dim-able. Just a thought.
I'm already looking into some LED strip lighting that I can pick the color and brightness. As I get more familiar with the vessel there will be some things that I'll watch to change or add to.
I have a much better method now. It's called anchoring much closer to land. lol. I used the spotlight to make sure I was far enough that the vessel wouldn't swing aground during a wind shift yet not so far that I feel like I'm in an iron man contest.
You're correct, it does. I found the dimmer. It's the power button. Just a quick push of the power button and a sub menu pops up allowing me to reduce the brightness all the way down. Thanks.
Puppy needs a life jacket... She might jump off at something or fall off when you're not looking! Might also want to get one of those dog potty patches just in case...
Covered. The front nav light is not only nav lights but also a remote controlled spot light. I've never seen one until I bought this boat. You can see it better at 8:22 in the video.
@@mikecrawford7352 I'm good with it being removable on the bow. I boat up into creeks with overhanging tree limbs. I don't want anything else sticking up on that roof.
My friend roy designed that. No rallings as they would be troublesome in big waves. Idea is to wash all the green water off the deck as fast as possible. Safer to not retain any weight in bow or stern.
@@magdakaniewski I reached out to Roy right before I pulled the trigger on buying this vessel. Only plans I have for the deck is to replace the slick tan paint with bright white non skid. It's way too slick for my liking, especially since I'll be solo a lot. That tan colored deck is hotter than Hades in the Oklahoma summer months.
A small tube like railing should not impede with shedding water. It would be more likely impede with vision while driving. A small 3 or 4 inch reverse air spoiler ( like the older ones in nascar) across the front leaning forward would go a long ways at keeping water from lapping across the bow if it becomes a problem that is. If this thing has a 6” draft and the sides look to be 24” minimum that’s 18” wave at best to break over the bow, with the exception of an occasional wake from a wake or ski boat not sure if I would take a boat like this on a constant 18” waves.
I think you're right. It's small, but really has everything I need and I'm able to stand and walk around. I've got a kayak for it now and I'm considering a inflatable dock.
I've seen a few great loop videos.... is the video called "shanty boat"? I'm working all the kinks out of The Oasis now. Once she is in top shape or at least close to it, I'm wanting to tackle the Kerr navigation system from Oklahoma to the Mississippi River. That's 455 miles one way and 18 locks. It's not the loop, but it's a leg off of it and would be a solid practice run.
I didn't realize it was mine until after I got it. I love those big houseboats, but those are stuck on one lake with very large marina fees. This one sits free of charge at my house until I'm ready to pick the lake that I want to go explore. LOVE IT.

I recently and abruptly realized we are not promised tomorrow and I decided I'd rather have 600 hours of quality time with my daughters, friends, and family.
Well, that’s not too bad little houseboat you got there young man I am very curious. How much does it cost one like that watch you from Southern Alberta Canada 🇨🇦
The price varies greatly pending on amenities and how motivated the seller is. Two were on the market in adjoining states, a 17' footer (original design) for $30k and The Oasis, a limo version coming in just over 21', mid $20k. I watched for months until it hit a price point that I was willing to pay. I picked it up in the teens and happily towed it home. Last I saw the 30k vessel is now mid 20k.
It is not dynema and you are correct. I've already had to splice it at the anchor. It's what came with the vessel and the stock anchor rope for this model of anchor wench. I've already purchased much thicker anchor line to replace that 1/4 inch stuff. In fair weather it's ok and I also keep a paranoid eye on it, but it will be replaced.
Dang, bug zapper is a good idea. The front and back door plexiglass can be changed out with a screen. Last night my daughter took the houseboat up the creek for an overnighter and she said the bugs were horrible. I just so happen to have a very small bug zapper. Thanks for the suggestion.
Glad you enjoyed the video. This is lake Thunderbird in Oklahoma. I live 1/2 mile from one of the boat ramps. More locations will be coming out as this great little boat is trailerable.
A craftsman from Indiana built it. It takes approx. 600 hours to build one. We aren't promised tomorrow, so I found one for sale and wrote a check. Personally I'd rather put that 600 hours to enjoying lake life with my daughters. I'm really liking it also.

@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 Good job by both the designer and the builder! Thanks for your reply, I had searched a good bit online to find one like it all to no avail. Good luck to you and your new boat, it surely will be a great adventure. Here in north Florida where i have always lived, we have a lot of nice waterways to enjoy. Houseboats are popular on the St Johns River, about 300 miles long and in several places more than a mile wide, with a lot of spring runs pouring in fresh clear water from class 1 springs. Camping in a small houseboat like that, one that is trailerable is appealing. All the best to you and yours!

Thank you James. There are two different window coverings at least for the sides. There are roll down awnings on port and starboard, plus I have floral patterned curtains that fit every single window on the vessel to include the round port windows. Just a week ago I used the roll down awnings to shield the side window from a heavy downpour. I haven't used the curtains much as it is surprisingly cool inside the cabin if there is a breeze blowing through. A white roof helps a lot also. I like the color scheme also. The desert sand with the green lends to it name very well. Unfortunately that desert tan will have to go. It's extremely hot in Oklahoma summer sun.

Out in the lake is the place to be. Still a few bugs, but not bad. My daughter took the houseboat up a creek for an overnighter and they were absolutely covered up with bugs.
Long term will be TotalBoat white nonskid deck paint. But, in the mean time and in a pinch I was thinking something similar like the vinyl RV porch rugs. Thanks.
I have a Jack Russell named Piper. I lost my 18 year old girl 3 yrs ago another Jack Russell, Leena. I love them dogs ❤❤❤
I'm sorry for your loss. They are great dogs.
If you don't have a life jacket for your dog get one and make sure your puppy whears it especially for night swims. Love your content, and your vessel is really cool.. my border collie Freya was always with me on my vessels in San Francisco Bay blessings
She has a life jacket on board, but she will overheat with it on in near 100 degree temps. Besides she is out of hunting stock and can swim for a very very long time. I live at the lake and it's shocking how long my dogs will go out in the cove and swim.
That dog needs a life jacket
That dog has one, but in near 100 deg F temps I don't put her in it. Plus, she can swim further than most people walking the planet.
Yes.. please get him one ..
Very nice boat!
Thanks.
Get yourself a little Bug zapper to get rid of those bugs. I got one at harbor fright that also has a light and is rechargeable.
Oh, I didn't know they had rechargeable ones. Thanks.
Great first overnighter
It was a pretty good one. I've got more planned.
I’m new to your channel and I really enjoyed your video 🙂Your houseboat is very nice and looks comfortable too 👍I love that you took your dog 🐶 I also love how peaceful it was. Good luck to you sir… Enjoy!
Thank you. I'm very glad you enjoyed the video. It is very comfortable and a pleasure to maneuver. In fact it's so easy, my daughter launched it this evening a took a friend to go fishing and camping on it for the weekend.
@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 Anytime you have something that connects you with your children it’s a good thing 🙂 Years ago we had a pontoon boat and it gave us a bond with our son that he never forgot. Both my son and his father are deceased now but I will always remember the fun that boat gave us 🙂 I look forward to seeing more videos 🙂👍
@@SunUp-l3h I'm very sorry for your loss. One of my few regrets in this life was selling my 24 foot pontoon boat. My girls loved it, but I had no idea how much until it was gone and they hadn't really expressed themselves until I had sold it. I only recently bought the houseboat, but the girls are really enjoying it. Glad you enjoyed the video.

Greetings from southern Ontario Canada better you and the dog on the water I prefer being on land
Nothing wrong with land, but I'm a water creature. I've got to be on it or in it. lol
Love it dude!
Thanks, I love it too. Just got off the lake after a two day camping trip.
beautiful boat
You can eliminate bugs indoors by placing a flashlight outside and turning off the lights inside. Give it a few minutes and you're all set after you close all the doors before turning on the lights inside.
Good idea. I passed that on to my daughter when she was swarmed by bugs up in a creek a few days ago.
I like the awnings
I really like them myself and they are very easy to operate.
That was cool video! SUBSCRIBED!
Thank you. I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
Seen you on the 4th at thunderbird boat ramp unique rig I love it
Thank you. That was a long day and that video will be out soon also. I post once every two weeks.
What a nice boat
Thank you. I'm really enjoying it.
You couldn't have paid me one million dollars to have jumped in that unknown lake in the dark like that! 😂😂😂😂
My log home is just at the other end of the cove, been there since 2008 so I'm real familiar with it.
That’s really nice.
Thank you. I'm glad you like it.

On most Garmin machines if you tap the power button it should bring up the brightness n then it's arrows up or down.....ok god bless
Nobody wanted to witness and partner up for the launch? No way I’d miss that 😮😊👍🙏🌎👀
Well..... I'm a bit of a loner. Rarely will you see anyone in my videos unless it's my family.
Swam 600 feet in the dark with your doggo to go pee....that's insane! lol
I have a much better method now. It's called anchoring much closer to land. lol. I used the spotlight to make sure I was far enough that the vessel wouldn't swing aground during a wind shift yet not so far that I feel like I'm in an iron man contest.
Awesome houseboat.
Thank you. I'm really enjoying it.
Cool boat
Thank you
Garmin may have a dimmer or a night mode. If not get some auto window tint and put it on some plexy. velcro it on?
You're correct, it does. I found the dimmer. It's the power button. Just a quick push of the power button and a sub menu pops up allowing me to reduce the brightness all the way down. Thanks.
Puppy needs a life jacket... She might jump off at something or fall off when you're not looking! Might also want to get one of those dog potty patches just in case...
I recommend a mounted spotlight
Covered. The front nav light is not only nav lights but also a remote controlled spot light. I've never seen one until I bought this boat. You can see it better at 8:22 in the video.
I would mount a spot light dead center in the roof like what officers have on their doors it would give you the best coverage with just one light
@@mikecrawford7352 I'm good with it being removable on the bow. I boat up into creeks with overhanging tree limbs. I don't want anything else sticking up on that roof.
Definitely should build a railing around the bow and stern.
It's crossed my mind no doubt. Especially with that slick deck. First thing is that deck gets changed to a non skid surface. lol
@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 yeah white non skid would work great.
I believe that would be about all the rumor I believe that would be about all the room a person would need
I think you're right. It's small, but really has everything I need and I'm able to stand and walk around. I've got a kayak for it now and I'm considering a inflatable dock.
U seen guy on shanty boat doing the great loop? Nice boat by the way!

Omg this is my dream house boat
I didn't realize it was mine until after I got it. I love those big houseboats, but those are stuck on one lake with very large marina fees. This one sits free of charge at my house until I'm ready to pick the lake that I want to go explore. LOVE IT.
@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643 do you made it yourself? Im dreaming of having this kind of boat that only can fit for few people to go fishing and camping, free from govn i guess 😁
@@ilhamismail2908 While I've hand crafted and built many things, my current log house included..... I wrote a check for this houseboat. It requires 600 hours to build. I recently and abruptly realized we are not promised tomorrow and I decided I'd rather have 600 hours of quality time with my daughters, friends, and family.
Very nice
thank you.
Where is this ? Looks beautiful.
This was on Lake Thunderbird in Norman, Oklahoma.
I hope that anchor line is “dynema”
still,chafe through in a heartbeat…just saying
It is not dynema and you are correct. I've already had to splice it at the anchor. It's what came with the vessel and the stock anchor rope for this model of anchor wench. I've already purchased much thicker anchor line to replace that 1/4 inch stuff. In fair weather it's ok and I also keep a paranoid eye on it, but it will be replaced.
Get you a Red Light or Yellow Light that won't attract bugs
I'm seriously considering some LED strip lighting that has a bunch of different colors to select. Then I can find one the bugs will ignore. Thanks.
I think it’ll be good if you got a screen door and a bug zapper
Dang, bug zapper is a good idea. The front and back door plexiglass can be changed out with a screen. Last night my daughter took the houseboat up the creek for an overnighter and she said the bugs were horrible. I just so happen to have a very small bug zapper. Thanks for the suggestion.
Fun to watch. What lake?
this is Lake Thunderbird in Oklahoma and Little River that feeds the lake.
You could use a push pole from academy
Great video. What lake are you on??
Glad you enjoyed the video. This is lake Thunderbird in Oklahoma. I live 1/2 mile from one of the boat ramps. More locations will be coming out as this great little boat is trailerable.
Did you build the boat? I like it!
A craftsman from Indiana built it. It takes approx. 600 hours to build one. We aren't promised tomorrow, so I found one for sale and wrote a check. Personally I'd rather put that 600 hours to enjoying lake life with my daughters. I'm really liking it also.
👍👍👍
Very nice houseboat! Was it built in a factory or did you build it? Not a familiar name to me, Oasis, so if it is factory built please list what brand boat it is. Hopefully I will see more info here on your channel about this boat .
this is a Dianne's Rose Design houseboat, designed by Roy Schreyer and built by a craftsman in Indiana. The Oasis is the name given to the vessel.
@@CraneofBoulogne This design was modified from the original. It's what I call the limo version. I absolutely love the springs down in Florida . I've scuba dived Morrison Springs and Vortex Springs and would absolutely love to explore the waterway down there some day with this little houseboat.
What is the brand of boat? I've never seen one like it.
Dianne's Rose Design houseboat
have to get a dinghy for you houseboat.
I'm kicking around the idea.
Matthew, that is one beautiful boat. Have question, what are you using for window exterior shade covering??
Love the color scheme.
Thanks, Jim. Tucson
I’m interested in what the roll down awnings. Where can I purchase them or did you make them. Thanks, Jim
@@jamesbeaman5944 Hello Jim, I hope I didn't give the impression that I built this vessel. I wrote a check for it and I'm currently learning everything that I can about it, how exactly it's made and all the whistles and bells this thing has.
Yes, I see that you did write ck. I wonder if you could look at the roll down shades n see if there is manufacturer info? Any info on those would be most appreciated. Jim@@mathewdavis-adventuresandd6643
@@jamesbeaman5944 You may be in luck. The craftsman saved every single receipt and manual on the build, to the tune of over $30K. I'll look through the stack and see if I can find something.
Noticed your houseboat has a Arkansas registration are you located in Arkansas?
LOL, funny you should ask. No I purchased it in the mountains of Arkansas. That's a whole debacle that I'll leave well enough alone. Literally just got the outboard motor title in 3 days ago. Got the court order for a new title to be made for the boat, just waiting for the tag agency to print it up. I'm based out of Norman, Oklahoma.
Looks like Chloe was groundhogin for a little bit 7:27
Lol. Yeah, it was about to get serious.
Where did you get the diagram?
The blueprints were included when I wrote a check for the vessel. I bought the vessel from the daughter of the builder.
I WANT TO BE OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LAKE HOPEFULLY AWAY FROM ALL THE DAMN BUGS MOSQUITOES
Out in the lake is the place to be. Still a few bugs, but not bad. My daughter took the houseboat up a creek for an overnighter and they were absolutely covered up with bugs.
Where are you at?
This is lake Thunderbird in Norman, Oklahoma.
What kind of hull is that?
Dianne's Rose Design
What lake are you on?
In this video, it's Lake Thunderbird in Norman, Oklahoma.
Maybe some carpeting on deck.?
Or Seadeck
Long term will be TotalBoat white nonskid deck paint. But, in the mean time and in a pinch I was thinking something similar like the vinyl RV porch rugs. I have a big one for my RV and really like it. Something has to happen though. That desert tan is dangerous to the skin with the blazing hot Oklahoma sun.
Did you build r buy?
Bought it, and I'm in the process of modifying it to my liking. Just upgraded the battery bank from flooded lead acid to Lithium.
