Just a little info for American fans who maybe didn't know that the line _"Hey you, Whitehouse"_ is NOT referring to the American Whitehouse... (It's actually referring to Mary Whitehouse, notorious in Britain at the time for trying to keep unsavoury content out of newspapers, television and the media generally. Hence the following line _"Mary, you're nearly a treat")_
I just read the option of what a classic music fan thought of rock music, he said it is extremely bland, with such a lack of melody that it can not encompass any emotions, that it can barely be classed as music, that it is not musical and that listening to rock, pop or rap is a sign of low intelligence. Obviously that person does not understand music in general. I love classical music but music does not have to be a sophisticated symphony, with complex harmonies and melodies. Music is about what the listener connects with, it does not matter how complex the melody is, music can be beautiful in all shapes, whether its classical, rap or death metal.

This past Christmas, we were hanging out at my cousin's house for the celebration, and he creates laser shows. One of These Days, Sheep, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and this song were played during the ones I got to watch...I felt so floaty and mezmerized during it...Pink Floyd is my drug of choice.
Since a kid listened to Floyd in some ways they always remain relevant.. the idea in the Animals album is that the Sheep eventually overcome the Pigs...Orwells ideas in Animal Farm seem borrowed somewhat here as the Pigs represented the establishment....ruling class so indicative of some of what we see happening a lot today..it's always going to be like this historically ..Waters has always had some political songs to vent..well actually bitter as this album sounds it however remains somewhat prophetic of our times..even on a global scale..of course Waters has a bit of a different take on the PIG these day's!
He was actually talking about some bitch named Mary Whitehouse who tried to censor everything. That's why a later line says "Mary, you're nearly a treat but you're really a cry". Though everyone in the white house are undoubtedly also charades
Think the lyrics where about Mary Whitehouse who was a haridon who wanted uk TV censoring 60 70s even wanted Tom n Jerry banned for being to violent for children.
To be completely honest, everyone thinks first world politics today is horrific. But when this album was written the government was directly negatively affecting its public. American's need to look at the old British government between the 60s and 80s and see what the music was actually written about. Only the lies and deceit applies to politics today. Also I think this is one of Roger's best basslines!!!

The guitar work in this whole song is top notch, though in my opinion the final 2 mins is amongst some of the finest most epic ever laid down. You can truly feel it radiate the intense emotion that must have gone into playing that solo and the backing with that methodical bouncing Bass is just too damn good.

Ha, ha, charade you are
And when your hand is on your heart
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying 'Keep on digging'
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find
Down in the pig mine?
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry
Bus stop rat bag
Ha, ha, charade you are
You fucked up old hag
Ha, ha, charade you are
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost worth a quick grin
You like the feel of steel
You're hot stuff with a hatpin
And good fun with a hand gun
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry
Hey you, White House
Ha, ha, charade you are
You house proud town mouse
Ha, ha, charade you are
You're trying to keep our feelings off the street
You're nearly a real treat
All tight lips and cold feet
And do you feel abused?
You got to stem the evil tide
And keep it all on the inside
Mary you're nearly a treat
Mary you're nearly a treat
But you're really a cry
Jason Proctor whose Mary ?
I thinks its an English(UK) term. look it up, I'm not sure.
Mary Whitehouse
and the other woman is Margaret Thatcher
the song is an attack on capitalism - as is the whole Animals album
That one gutair note at 2:34 is my favorite bit of this song.
Did anyone else smile when Rodger called everyone in the whitehouse a charade.
He was actually talking about some bitch named Mary Whitehouse who tried to censor everything. That's why a later line says "Mary, you're nearly a treat but you're really a cry". Though everyone in the white house are undoubtedly also charades
yes. yes i did
Think the lyrics where about Mary Whitehouse who was a haridon who wanted uk TV censoring 60 70s even wanted Tom n Jerry banned for being to violent for children.
Great song from an great album. Gilmours guitar at the end are among his finest works.
BillyBoysing NO DOUBT
I love the outro to Sheep as well. So powerfull
The cherry on top of thr cake!
The more I listen to this the more I realize how hard it hits the mark. Great stuff.
"Ahead of it's time" I'd disagree, this something that has always been relevant, you're just now aware when it affects you noticeably.
Absolutely one of Pink Floyd's all time best songs! 🐷
This genius will never happen again. Only the PC corporate approved music is allowed now. Game Over!
Word!

Been listening to PINK FLOYD nearing 50 years now and will be listening till I'm on my death bed. Anyone says PINK FLOYD is nowhere is not listening with their ❤️, but with the mind. Awesome, groovy, splendid, try listening to PINK FLOYD as you lay your head down to sleep and you will have sleep ,for me, guaranteed 👍X10. Thanks for letting me vent 😃..........

Tracy Jones
No n. The music is trippy enough.
¿Porque no dos?
@@stellashepherd844 lol shut up Real Floyd fans do both and enjoy both...
Here in Brazil we're about to have a pig in power.
@Somewhere0311,I don't think so! There all guilty sheriffs, psychiatrist with the police in Thomasville Georgia! They want our whole family DEAD! My name is Lewis Robert Burton Jr!
The guitar work in this whole song is top notch, though in my opinion the final 2 mins is amongst some of the finest most epic ever laid down. You can truly feel it radiate the intense emotion that must have gone into playing that solo and the backing with that methodical bouncing Bass is just too damn good.
I wish the haters could leave politics out of here. Yes, the song is about politicians; so enjoy the song and take the crying about your specific political slant somewhere else. It's pathetic. This is not the place. Enjoy the music.
this jam is dope..🔺💗💛💚💙💜
I used to play this song in my 68 mach1

+Jorge Mier and in my 69 RAMBLER !!!
+Jorge Mier I used to play this in my '68 bug
Jorge Mier I used to play this in my 1973 El Camino SS 454
Jorge Mier I played it in my 68 Camaro, you might have heard it as I was pulling away!
I fell in love the first time I heard dark side when I was 15 ,smoking Lebanese hash in a tent in my parent's front yard. Then I heard the Wall. I was smitten. Then animals and the final cut. The poetry in the Final cut blew my mind. Thanks boys !!!! You made a difference in my life.
I honestly believe this is Gilmour's finest guitar playing!!
I'm inclined to agree with you on that
Been a PF fan since they started. Best band ever.......
Stay away from the political BS...Just keep on playing
go away
surface level politics man is making a stand
If aliens come to earth and ask about Human art - give them a Pink Floyd music CD ❤️
haha
Roger thanks for finally playing this song in concert! Please you and David get together for one last blowout tour! I no I am dreaming but it would be fantastic.
267 politicians all around the world disliked this masterpiece
There we go. All these people are saying it’s about one specific politician or another. The whole lot of them suck. There have been pigs ever since we’ve been electing officials.
I was born in 77 this music is my soul!!!!!!! I'm the last of a dying breed!!!!!!
"This is the best part of the trip, the best part!! What did he say??"Oops
Damn you Jim Morrison lol....
Ha ha charade you are..
Woooooooo!!!
Classic Floyd .... Miss you Eddie Munster aka P.Staruk...RIP BRO!!!
Could you tell the whole story. Need to understand the context
I put this album up there with DSOTM & WYWH.
i was born in the wrong rime. "Music" today is barely music.
I was born in the rong lime. Music is bearly music
I was born in the wrong thyme. Music today is oregano.
+Makis Makiavelis XD
+Makis Makiavelis I think you mean "unoregano." After all, all the new musicians are just ripping off the seasoned veterans.
hweenmask
If the argument "if you're such hot shit, why don't you do better?" were valid, all forms of criticism would be eliminated from the face of the Earth.
Really wish people would stop self censoring.
Great music is timeless.
We are living the song in 2020 I guess we need to make some bacon
2021 and the sleepy Joe administration is definitely a charade
@@thomasglynn2282 President Joe Biden with Barak Obama leading way! My name is Lewis Robert Burton Jr!
This is a cruel, brutal song for our “public servants”- I’m not a politicians are all corrupt guy. But I’ll admit there are a lot of them out there. Locally. Globally. Tough, tough.
Had the joy of seeing Brit Floyd the other night. Great group. I will never get to see PInk Floyd but this group is spot on and well worth going to see. Thanks for the song.
Aw, come on! I almost saw Brit Floyd but tickets sold out and it was fine because I heard another good one was Australian Pink Floyd Show. But then, I went online, was about to buy tickets, but then realized I wasn't available on the date. Yes, I won't ever get to see PF too, but I've always wanted to see a Pink Floyd cover band and now that won't happen any time soon. It sucks because I have heard that those 2 cover bands are the best PF cover bands around and will have to wait around till next tour :( On a better note (for me), how was the concert?
The Machine is also a really good Floyd tribute band. Ive been attending their shows for about 4 or 5 years now
I just saw them last night here in Dallas and wow! 😊
too bad the biggest pig of all is here 43 years after this song came out. :-(
Goosebumps on those chords man
Trump just announced his song pick for the 2020 Republican National Convention, Pigs (Three Different Ones).
Remember hearing this the first time in 8th grade in 92 or 93. Blew me away! Got to see them for the Division Bell tour a year or so later. This will always be one of my favorite songs and albums though 🎶
The drums.....guitars......keyboard......bass so amazing....nice combination
