I'm a Ford Ranger driver. I put my deposit on one of these yesterday. Ford, Toyota, VW and Mitsubishi are having sleelpless nights ahead.
Enjoy!
if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it could... burn your house down.
Nice!
how much is it driveaway?
@@EVsBeyondI looks good on 1st impression. My questions is what petrol is the 1.6 litre?(Diesel, unleaded..etc ) & Where is the port for the oil? I'm glad you showed the charging port on the right hand Sind, just wondering where the oil tank is & it's respective port?
The word is that Toyota are going to use BYD hybrid technology in their vehicles soon!
Makes sense.
already,have you heard toyoto bz3?😂
I have been in a seal today, excellent built car, this UTE is also beautiful. I am pretty sure, my next car is going to be a BYD
The Seal is a great vehicle.
Yeah me too, but when to jump in as the 2025 has a lot of improvements like range
Great vid and really looking forward to this thing being launched in Oz.
On first impressions, I’d definitely buy one!!!
Good choice!
@@EVsBeyond looks great but that tailgate button. Does it have a manual/alternative way of opening it. That button is going to get smashed at some point.
Absolutely love that lengthy lights on top of the Logo
Love to see it when you are down this way some time Rob
Be a while before I get to do that, but it will happen.
Look forward to seeing extensive testing in desert, water crossings, rock climbing
We have a plan.
@@EVsBeyondwhat's ya plan?
If it comes to Thailand, I will definitely buy one but after second or third version. I never buy first version of anything.
Yeah , I agree. Good to wait a little bit. The later cyber trucks are going to be much better .
Nice ..I want one!
Go for it!
It is rather nice!
Smaller Shark 🦈 should be called a Baby Shark dooo Doo Doo.
It’s in my head now dammit.
Lol
Shark mini maybe🤣
The info is good. But why are you In All the camera man footage. Show more of the vehicles and less of you. Thanks
That is a cool truck.
unfortunately here is a funny situation, in China pickups have some restrictions in cities, so Shark is actually more a export faced vehicle.
as a guy who love fishing diving camping, this Shark is really my dish, but I cant get is as easy as you new zealander or brazilian.
Move here then!
Wha? No utes clogging Chinese city's! How do they do their grocery shopping!
wr
@@johnhornblow4347 in Chinese cities pickups are more for road maintenance teams or other minor construction users. most small cargo vehicles are mini vans. pickups are cataloged as light cargo vehicle, not allowed on some elevated roads or tunnels.
@@EVsBeyond yeah new zealand is really a outdoor heaven, sadly I still need to work for money😂
the funny thing is most f150 i see on roads don’t tow much if anything. The obsession with monstrous pickup trucks is beyond me.
People seem to buy based on a once a year hypothetical use case.
@EVsBeyond ha ha. Keeping the dream of freedom alive 😅 When infact you just work and rest
There needs to be more far reviewers that wear Gumboots! Bloody marvelous
Subscribed. Good information. Like BYD’s DM-i technology and blade battery. This ute is such a powerful beast, its power really amazed me. Fuel consumption is low too if you consider its size and power. Is that because of BYD’s DM-i technology?
Not to be that guy, but this is DMO not DMI :)
DMO is actually 4 motors, 2 electric drive motors, 1 Atkinson cycle engine and 1 electric generator. Same power train as the Bao5, which is another crazy SUV may will be in Sharks family?
Looks great…. Reckon be my next Ute if BYD intend to look after customers with any issues. Unfortunately that is not what I am hearing
Because it's a PHEV and with our weird RUC laws, when you're driving less than 80 ish km per day this will be cheaper to run than a Tesla or a Leaf. Wild.
Starting price for $53K equivalent for a midsize is honestly a lot higher than I expected. I expected something in the $35K or at most mid $40K range (starting price of a Tacoma hybrid). Remember in Mexico a base Hilux starts at $20K equivalent so BYD is twice as much
Yet its towing and payload a lot less, no solid axle means it is never gonna be as off-road capable. It uses e-CVT rather than traditional torque converter automatic. Its 30kwh or so battery is stored not in the interior like the Wrangler 4XE or TNGA-F product but outside underneath the cab. So repairing and replacing on that battery will take longer and cost more money. Some of the biggest problem of the BYD DMO platform.
This is not the game change that some people hyped up to be
Did you say that the rear power point was 2400W ? That's awesome if it is. No more second battery setups for camping and running fridges and things.
240/230v at 10amp at least. Likely more.
在中国,比亚迪和这款相似的SUV,提供6千瓦功率的外放电。
Thanks for the walk around. Is the only way to open the tailgate by pressing the button on the top? May make it a bit awkward to get to if it has a hard or even soft cover overlapping the top edges?
Nice to see they aren’t wasting a steering wheel button on the screen rotate. Is the front light bar on the bonnet going to be available on NZ model? I understood it didn’t comply with some random ANCAP requirement.
If your price guess is correct, I think it will be a slightly more difficult sell than other BYDs, which clearly undercut their competition. Competition in this case includes the well established diesel utes.
The light bar does not comply in Australia, but I believe it is ok here - we get the light between the headlights Aussie doesn't on the Atto.
Did they say anything about tray roller shutters or canopies from factory?
When will you be test driving ?
Awesome🎉🎉🎉
Looks great, but in my head I still want and expect a Chinese equivalent to cost considerably less than the Ranger, which all utes seem to be compared with. GWM with its Cannon X, for example, hit a home run because it was (is) a lot of ute for a LOT less than a Ranger.
I guess if you compare it against the ranger it is specified against, it is cheaper.
Yeah Im looking at the LDV T60 Max Plus, 48K DA...much cheaper, and IMO a nicer interior. GWM Alpha Hybrid is also much more luxurious inside and seems like a decent ute also for a lot less...too many options! Im thinking next year is the time to buy, market will be flooded.
@@ronaldov09 Alpha has had a mixed response. It’s also creeping up in price, away from thx / T60 /Musso, and closer aligned to navara / bt50 / Triton / D-Max etc.
LDV still gets mixed reviews on drive quality despite them having whacked two sexy 12 inch screens inside the max plus.
need byd shark suv!!
Too sad, not available in Canada
Not to worry, when North americans finally are sick of their politicians pushing blames on China cars for their inabilities to deal w competitions and voice their dissatisfactions and disappointments u will see them land on your shores
I will buy it without any hesitation!! If I’m a tradies…. Free charge on site every day … haha …
Is it an overreach to ask if BYD can undercut the Ranger Wildtrak 2.0L spec price for this truck? 😁
It’s possible.
Any idea or mention of a rear roller type cover like the Wildtrak...
The wildtrak cover was originally an off the shelf item so no doubt someone will sell one.
@@EVsBeyond Great little video, That ute will probably be here shortly on show in Australia after you Kiwi's have checked things out...
Not one review Ive seen has given the dimensions of the tub.... can someone help please
1520*1500*517 - you can thank me by suscribing!
Does the shifter go up and down when you start and turn it off like Bao5?
It doesn't. Probably for the best.
Don't think this car was ever off. The bao 5 only moves when you hit the red button to allow vehicle to load while turning the vehicle off.
What about all the 4wd stuff lockers etc
There’s no transfer case and electric axels. Our understanding is it has a terrain system that can moderate torque to wheels.
9:46 My girl would be use to it.
Should be decent value with cheaper RUCs for PHEVs.
The RUC discount will make a big difference.
pure sine wave inverter ? cant find any specs ?
R.I.P Toyota
Not sure Toyota is going anywhere.
Comparing to its DMO siblings, it has a much worse interior, no diff locks front and rear, no hydraulic adjustable suspensions, no low-range gear…Will wait for the next DMO comeing to AU…
I didn't find the interior much different to the Bao5 I checked out at the show. We don't know diff lock or suspension spec yet. Re low-range... electric drivetrains don't need it as they are pretty much full torque at no rpm.
@@EVsBeyond bao5, bao8 & yangwang U8 all have the 2:1 ratio low-range gear
The whole car industry Toyota Ford even VWG etc must be shaking in the boots
Would Greta to be a fly on the wall in the Exec Board Rooms on what strategy they have to defend there market share 😢
Not sure Greta likes anything with an engine.
NEDC = Not Even Damn Close
Agreed!
Likely 700+km
Thompson Kimberly Wilson Scott Lewis Ruth
Track record on warranty is not good on the BYD's.
Notice how they can't spell shark on the licence plate
Impressive but come on BYD, bring on the BEV!
It’s coming.
Phev is the best of both worlds
Bev is trash
Towing capacity? Any idea on a 3.5ton braked?
2.5 tonne braked.
Apparently there's only a small market (So say the journos and urban professionals) that needs 3.5t.
You picked a funny place to make statements like this 😂. Field days. Farmers tow and offroad.
On the plus side, it's a big improvement over previous ev utes. Nearly there, would be great for a second ute for a two ute family.
The mainstream car manufacturers can no longer keep up with the Chinese or Koreans.
Time for lazy boring navara, triton , bt50 to close shop & giving room for chinese & korean utes .
BEV model should be next.
You would hope (and think) so.
NZ dealerships will definitely mark up the prices on these utes. Only the rich can afford to buy
New Zealand dealerships aren’t known for ‘market adjustments’ like US ones are.
About $60k nzd I was told
Load is less than a Ton.. that's bad.. Hilux is 1Ton.. If they want market in middle east they should make it 1Ton+
Yes, it is a downside. Not sure it’s going to make much difference to most buyers.
I know few people that put 1000kg in the back of a double cab ute in Nz and Australia. But yeah for some market it is an issue.
The reality is the battery only allows 80 Ks on EV. SO you still rely on an ICE powerplant. And i have a DIESEL which is ultra quiet so stop the diesel noise BS.
Average daily commute in NZ’s biggest city is 22km.
@@EVsBeyond mine is 300.but appreciate the comparison. wonder why people want to go for utes anyway as family ride?
not only tradies drive ute. the farmers do too.
@@rustykilt its a jack of all trades car, towing, camping, off road capable, tip runs, pick up the large TV, bikes in the back...I probably wouldn't own one if I only had a single car though.
Dmi
DMO - different system.
@@EVsBeyond ok thanks
Nice looking vehicle, but only 2500kg max braked tow capacity, not good enough. I'll keep driving my clean diesel.
As I say, it is not for everyone!
LOL.... clean diesel. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Deadly diesel, but yeah fair enough if it doesn't meet the stats required. But I think most people get more car than they need - they spec for 'just in case' rather than what they actually need.
So a Ford raptor from temu...
Does that pass the free shipping limit?
Q. How do you tell if a review is honest, credible and not sponsored or biased? A. The reviewer doesn't make comments like "the interior is high quality" before they even touch or open or poke at anything! On the payroll?
Maybe the reviewer had already been in and poked around, taken some notes, and then shot the video.
@@EVsBeyond😂😆 of course. Wow, the OP is a fool
Q. How can you tell if someone is a idiot? A. Simple. They leave the usual idiotic comment "Your being paid"
That could be said about any one that talks good about anything. For example If a reviewer was saying how he likes a new phone of a certain brand he must be biased because he is getting paid by the company. God forbid someone say anything positive about any product or up you will be labelled "on the payroll" how idiotic!
shHark????? BYD nz really need some people😂
The Shark plate is currently owned by someone with an old Holden Belmont.
@@EVsBeyond when sth happened to a kiwi, there always be an aussie associated 🤣
Electric or nothing.
Fair call. They have something EV coming.
🎉
Seems happy!
ruclips.net/p/PL2Xpfc0E7zIlYiL83yqrPNg8BEElKSvav&si=IqEY6xKyIqhjjnNL will byd is a decent EV\Hybrid brand but they have some serious issues with there control arms & steering arms & axel bearings quality! 518
EV EVANGELIST. Heard lots of positive reports on this vehicle but is it really an option for serious off roaders? does it really compete with LANDCRUISER, HILUX or RANGER? For serious off roading and towing, it has to be DIESEL.
How many utes are actually used for serious off roading?
@@EVsBeyond Not many. just looking at options for those who do. obviously this is not.
