  • Hyundai introduced its all-new seventh-generation 2015 Sonata at the New York International Auto Show. Following the incredible success of the outgoing Sonata, the all-new generation offers a more refined look through a new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, stiffer body structure, better ride quality, reduced noise, vibration and harshness and advanced safety and convenience features. Sonata truly democratizes the premium design and convenient technology of the Genesis sedan for the mid-size class.
    Hyundai continues its all four-cylinder engine lineup for the 2015 Sonata. A revised 2.4-liter Theta II GDI four-cylinder engine powers SE, Limited and Sport models. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder produces 185 horsepower and 178 lb. ft. of torque. Hyundai's powertrain engineers slightly reduced peak power for the 2015 Sonata to shift the powerband downward for better responsiveness in lower-RPM situations where customers spend the majority of their time. The new Electronic Intake Continuously Variable Valve Timing (E-CVVT) improves performance in low temperatures and reduces emissions.
    A revised 2.0-liter Theta II turbocharged GDI, also featuring E-CVVT, powers Sport 2.0T models. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is also optimized for lower-RPM drivability and it produces 245 horsepower and 260 lb. ft. of torque. The turbocharger features a smaller turbine and compressor wheel, which provide better responsiveness and more torque in the low and mid RPM range. Both Theta engines are paired with a six-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic transmission.

    I'm loving that quad exhaust system! I'll admit I underestimated Hyundai for still being poorly made cars, but they've really changed as a company, the new Sonata is gorgeous in my opinion it looks better than a 5 series BMW, much less a Camry

      It's incredibly hard to match the deal you get with Hyundai (or Kia). 10 year/100,000 mile warranty, on top of a very well built and affordable car that also looks great and drives well.

    I got this car last week. Let me give you guys some feedbacks.
    Overall the car drives quite well for a 4-cylinder turbo. Noise level of engine and drive is somewhat in the mid range. My previous car was a 2012 Genesis and this 2015 Sonata is not better but doable.
    Cons:
    The car doors were not aligning correctly. Doors were a bit off from the quarter panels and rear passengers door. I was not able to open driver's side passenger the door. I have to pull the handle twice in order to open the door. Dealership had to take my car in for a day to fix these issues. I got the car on Friday and return to dealership for repairs on Monday, go figure. Hyundai Alabama must be rushing to get this car out of factory because their QC is way below par. I was told the car was also inspected when it arrives at dealership before it can be sold to me. The QC level at the dealership must be the same as factory, below average. How Hyundai is able to miss all doors alignment is beyond my comprehension. I really hope the doors are the only problems and nothing on the brakes or steering as they have a recall earlier when they roll out the 2015 Sonata 2.4s and SEs. My advice to all my fellow buyers: Beware and please check all the doors alignment, make sure they are flushed with quarter panels and rear passenger doors. Oh BTW, even after they fix my doors, one of the doors is still not aligned correctly. I will need to take the car in again. OMG. What is waste of my time.
    Bluetooth Audio Streaming: All 2015 Sonata has this problem and their engineers are working on a fix. If you try to stream your music from your phone to the car's Bluetooth system, get ready for a break/pause every 15 seconds. I was told Hyundai knew about this problem but they will still sell the car anyway. Currently I'm waiting for a software patch which will fix this but who knows when. I suggest all buyers to stay the away from this car until maybe a year later till they fix all defects. If you have a iphone 5 or better, wait for Apple Carplay to be installed before you get the car. I kind of regretted getting this car so early in the game as Carplay cannot be retro to the current 2015 Sonata models. Plus I'm not sure what other problem I may encounter. Better wait then be sorry like me.

    Window Lock: Yesterday I found a new problem. Window lock function is not working. There is a window lock button on the driver's side left armrest. Supposedly when this function is on, other passengers in the car is not able to open their windows. Mine doesn't work. This function is broken for my car. Sad story, Hyundai miss it during their under par QC.
    Pro:???
    With so many current problems, my pros are clouded with the cons so there is nothing good to say about the car now. Until they fix all my car's existing problems, I may update this review with some goods. Thanks for reading and hope you all buy other cars for now.

    • @TheBlakem
      @TheBlakem 10 лет назад +5

      Hyundai owns the majority of Kia , Kia is basically the testing grounds for new vehicles, Kia is a great value but Hyundai is a step above as far as quality goes.

    • @bliglum
      @bliglum 10 лет назад +8

      TheBlakem Step above as far as quality goes. How so? They are basically the same cars, only with different badges.

    • @memecommod9866
      @memecommod9866 10 лет назад

      bliglum After the take over, Hyundai replaced some of Kia's suppliers. After a while, Hyundai replaced Kia's engines, which caused some commotion from within. Then Kia went after better designs. Now, Hyundai co-hired Kia's chief designer as their chief as well. So it appears they are basically the same cars, however, differences remain. Their history is different. Previously, Kia had a focus on industrial and business vehicles. Now it is focused on consumer cars. Hyundai had a focus on consumer cars, and continue on this path. Since Kia changed its focus market, they are more experimental. The names K5, K7 was an attempt to make their cars easier to remember by name. Hyundai, past and present, kept their car names the same. Kia's K series have a focus on a more rigid but sportier ride. Hyundai remains a comfort focused ride. Kia's K-series started with 2 cars. Now they have 4, and more can be on the way. Hyundai creates new brands for new market segments. And Hyundai likes to create custom vehicles to different continents. Kia's vehicles are more uniform as always. Hyundai designs are created in several continents. Kia's designs are based on the chief designer. This can go on and on.

    Very good looking car, but the interior still looks cheap, if the center console has some wood trim on it should be looks better. Anyway, the previous generation Sonata 2.0T has 270+ HP but why the newest version has only 245 HP? Not really happy about that, but the exterior looks really good, love it. Just hope Hyundai can put more attention on the interior design, comfort, quiet are important but still the luxury or high quality looking should also available as well.

      I agree! The sixth generation Sonatas have a much sexier, more slick design. The 2015 models are a little too boxy looking. There is a reason why though, Hyndai wanted to redesign the models to a more conservative look because the competition is so strong! I've got my 2011 Sonata and I love it! I'm definitely keeping it for a while so I could care less about the newer designed Sonatas!

    Is it just me... or doesn't this look like a Huge step backwards from the current Sonata? This one doesn't look bad but the last model looks way better imo.

    Too bad Hyundai joined Subaru with their Legacy by dropping the manual transmission. Hyundai was among one of the first four-cylinder direct injected engines to offer manual, until Honda came along and made their direct injected 2.4 Liter engine with i-VTEC for 2013 and up. But people who buy new family sedans don't even want or can't drive it with a manual transmission, because it's uncomfortable for the driver and passengers to feel the shifts.

    Hyundai did a great job on the exterior of the redesigned 2015 Sonata, I can see the aim was to make it a bit more mature while maintaining a WOW appeal, and I believed they succeeded with this exterior design. Unfortunately for the interior, they went geriatric! For a company that came so far - Why would Hyundai allow such an old, bland interior in their redesign? I sat in this car twice, once at the NYC auto show and again for the test drive. The dated dash board threw me back to my parent’s old station wagon both times and I simply could not move forward with a test drive. Hyundai - Remember this - Most drivers will spend most of their time inside the car. Therefore it’s equally important to have an interior design that’s both comfortable and appealing.

    Too bad the useful foglamps have been replaced by useless LED lights which look corny and do nothing and power is down across the board with the base engine down to 185 HP and the turbo down to only 245 from 274. Also the only way to get a turbo is the top line $29385 SE turbo model. All the other models have the 185 HP engine. For 2014 you could get a 25K SE turbo or 29K turbo Limited with the 274 HP engine.

    2015 sonata 2.4 0-60 just under 9 seconds and 2.0T just above 8 seconds....not the worst in this segment but way behind Camry or Accord.

    gotta say hyundai had a significant improvement both on exterior and interior, i somehow love how the new hyundai cars look like....and even think to buy one...but then again when i see the brand...its. hyundai ...and used to be suck and cheap car.....thats the only thing that stopped me to buy a hyundai...not trying to be a dick but i had to say that hyundai cheap brand image stuck in me quite bad lol....anyway i love how they style their new car...looks luxury yet sporty...its just the brand dude......makes me pfftt...

    As I have sonata 2012 I think it is not much nice or butty it is only about technology ,the best design is 2013 because it is must faster and youth and fashion for new people .
    I like the sonata 2012&2013.
