I've been riding it for a week and I love it. Super light, comfortable and fast rolling. Climbs like a beast! A bit pricey but it's such a quality build that I have no regrets. Added a pair of crank brothers 3 and I am now riding it tubeless.
Great to hear!
Really hope they release the fork as an option in the future. I also really hope they take the frame back to the drawing board and fix the cable routing. When I converted my aluminum 7 to singlespeed, I couldn’t believe that it only has partial housing for the shift cables. Could probably use some geometry updates too
The Barbegazi tires are indeed studable with GripStuds, been running them on my Farley since 2016 with no issues. Good overall review.
I just picked mine up a few weeks ago, still have to weigh it up. Changed the following:
Tubeless Wampas
Whiskey #9 Carbon bars
Bontrager XXX seat post
Xtr Pedals
Stylo Fat Carbon cranks
Brooks C13 Carbon saddle.
Climbs very well, only rode it on dry trails in SE Michigan, waiting for snow! 👊🏼 Nice review!
Fat biking in MN my tubeless psi is around 1.5. Under 10psi indeed! (On my Framed MN 1.2 I built up). I love the sport!
It also needs more chain ring options. The -4 offset makes it a rare aftermarket part for those cranks. It should be a 28-tooth, stock.
Looks like a great adventure/bike packing bike 😀. Oh as for the grips, those are all I ever use! Will say no rear rack mounts is a little bit of a let down, but it's not a big one since they got the front covered which is more often the biggest one for bike packing.
Awesome review!
Great video 💯🙌
Damn, I left a review of my 2021 Farley 9.6 on their site requesting more bosses and bike packing features! Guess they made a note.
I would love to try the 9. Must be super lite. I have a 7 and love it with suspension because of rough conditions and ppl adding postholes. The farley line is awsome!
I love my fat bike I use it all year considering where I live you can expect snow anywhere from the end of October to the end of May
I run 7 and 8 psi in the snow with tubes with no issues.
Mine came in 1 yr early & it’s an awesome bike. So much faster than I expected & the grip & handling is incredible. Mine is 26 lbs tubeless, I love this bike!
Very nice!
Nice assuming you ditched all the reflectors. Any other changes?
@@ericduch5087 oh yeah, reflectors were first to go, I put carbon handlebars on it & Ergon fat grips, otherwise it’s stock, I run 7psi as I’m 160 lbs, this bike is such a blast to ride, it really surprised me, worth every penny!
I find this fork to be bought separately?
You run some high pressures, brother. I'm at 2-5psi in snow and 9psi when trail riding. 27.5, 4.5 tires set tubeless on my Fezzari Kings Peak.
I Agree but depends on snow conditions of that particular day and trail
Can you motorize this bike with this Frame? Can I attach a battery and a mid Drive motor on it or even a hub motor on that kind of bike?
The thought of trying to pedal those tires with fully loaded racks is making me ill.😅
Great review! But 160MM rotors for a bike like this? Kinda' weenie. IMy Stache came with 160's as well, replaced them w/ 205 front and 180 rear w/ Hayes 4-pistons.
On dry dirt, level ground how much ch speed are you giving up? For background the widest tire I have ever ridden was 3”.
I have one of these and ride it more than any of my bikes. I don't feel it's any slower than my carbon hardtail in the trail.
One of main reasons I still have my 2017 Farley 9.8 is the carbon Wampa’s. I don’t know why they stopped using them a couple years ago.
It's too bad they don't do the carbon wheels anymore
What are you talking about? Trek still makes carbon Wampas! Not hard to find.🙄
@@stevevarga8621 They don’t come equipped anymore. I didn’t say they don’t make them…
I’m in Phoenix. You used to see these on the trails like 5 years ago. Now you never see fat bikes anymore. I had to try one, I sold it in a few weeks. It was a beast to pedal around.
Those fat wheels look like a bitch to accelerate. Imagine doing any sort of climbs on this beast.
There are places in AZ where a fat bike is a good choice, but PHX isn't it. I imagine part of why you saw so many was they sort of blew up as an almost sub-cultural thing. Sort of like "chopper" bikes in CA.
Would make sense in Flagstaff in the winter definitely some good trails for a fat bike, but who wants to ride on sand for extended periods in Phoenix when any trail is better. I see too many in Phoenix
SE Michigan has tons of Fattys!
I have the 2016 version and by and large it's the same bike. I also have a 29+ wheelset that I use in the summer. It's been a great all season bike. I've raced it, took it bikepacking in Utah and ridden everything in between!
gorgeous bike..........if you like red. It's frustrating to put out that kinda cash and then being told what colour you are getting. as per Henry Ford back in the day: "You can have whatever colour you want.........as long as it's black."
Got an old Farley 6 few months ago and first thing I noticed was cable routing looks like $#&@ can’t believe it still looks just as bad all these years later. Kinda like there motto is “it works who cares what it looks like”
@Daniel Hollingsworth yes, I understand the design but it still looks like $#^%
Cable lauting is not Good.
It's a FAT bike, it's not supposed to look good 😉
Was that weight for a tubeless set up or were there tubes in there?
Tubed
Will there be a review on the aluminum version coming?
I sure hope so
Very nice. I wish I had the extra moola . 😢
You and me both!
Good review. But dropper post has been on farleys last 3 models or so 😋
Started in 2020, please see the correction note that was displayed on screen during that comment.
been cross shopping this bike with a fezzari kings peak...what is your thoughts?
Kings Peak looks nice. With most DTC bike brands I aways wonder about long term ownership/warranty/parts availability. Fat bikes are simple machines so may not be as big of a concern, but you definitely buy confidence when going with a more established/local dealer.
@@Jamesthebikeguy totally understood...how about some feedback on geometry design and components?
As far as my own personal taste goes, I still prefer the last seasons 9.6 better. It has more unique frame colour sceme- more soul innit🤘. It kind a changes through daylight. Plus it has not those matted out areas on. Plus I would never put on a carbon bike those racks, therefore no need to pay extra for couple of mounting holes in a fork. Basically the bike stays same old good👍, with different saddle. Fun is the same, quality stays the same❤. I was only for a 3 seconds lit up, when heard about new 9.6... then took a look at mine 2022 and realized, that unless you have no fattie at all, there is no need to catch this years dream😊! Farley rocks🥂
Great intro to the bike. Can it be converted to an E-Bike?
Anything can be done, but it is not a good candidate for that
Why not just buy a fat bike ebike there are tons of them. Of course if you are riding to get in shape why would you?
@@michaeldennis2630 I’m a pretentious, lazy fat fuck who wants to use pedal assist from beginning to end and call myself a mountain biker. Don’t hate me for being like 99.9% of E-bikers.
Action Excitement Adventure!
Yes sir
From a mechanics standpoint. (I own a shop) I loooooooove the horrific cable set up hahaha
Yea. Outer runs kick ass. You can easily see the problems and switch the cables. Also cheaper for the customers. Many higher end ebikes especially have some horrendous cable runs through headsets and whatnot. Many tight 90 degree turns and changing anything needs special tools and whatnots. So stupid.
Red or orange?
Send it out
Just needs a Bafang
I want that in india
Sweet looking Fatty! Thanks for making this video!!
You got it
No internal cable routing? Kinda whack for a carbon frame
This is internally routed
@@Jamesthebikeguy I'd hardly call that internal routing.
Is Trek coming out with a new fat tire bike in 2024?
I hope to Christ the X Caliber gets a thru axle this year LMAO
It really should
my 2021 xcaliber had thru axle?
@@christofferlol it hasn't, the frame is QR BOOST 141.
@@VerthNeel yep ur right, the fork had tho
I love trek bikes, got Domane and FX but i wanted MTB so i had to buy Orbea Alma - thru axles, sram nx, shitty brakes, but i'm satisfied
I can't believe someone is running these tires and it's not an ebike.
My wife and I ride a pair of them. They’re quite fast and agile. I’m only 67 years old, so don’t yet need an eBike.
@@davidgromer3525 ha ha.........nobody NEEDS an e-bike ......however a good quality Class 1 E-mtb (which I purchased 4 years ago when I turned 70) certainly adds to the fun factor. I ride a fat bike bike, a 29+ hardtail as well as a full suspension e-bike. The fun part is the ability to interchange bikes throughout the year. for different riding experiences. I live in a 4 season area so I really enjoy my fat bike. Approx 60% of my mileage is on the e-bike (I've consistently rode +4000mi annually for the last 10 years.) Maybe, like me, when you turn 70 you'll consider an e-bike. Ride on.
My experience with the Barbegazi tires was with the 26 x 4.7 on my 2015. Worst tire I've ever ridden. EXTREME drag, especially in the snow with lowered pressures. Also they were a lousy front tire in all conditions, poor steering grip. Never ridden them in a 27.5 config but i'd never buy a bike with this tread pattern again and Fat bike tires ain't cheap. Sorry, had to get my two cents in.
Meh might be a nice ride. But i refuse to pay what they are asking for new bikes. You can get 1/2 year old second hand highend bikes for cheeap rn.
Those grips look terrible lol..
Why?
@@Jamesthebikeguy I'm just imagining how gross the foam will be after a few rides and having sweat soak in
Oh no! A fat bike? I must have slipped back through time to 2012. I don't want to relive the last decade again, it was awful...
FAIL! No tapered headset! Blek!
It literally has a tapered headset... 1-1/8" to 1-1/2". -- Pretty standard on a bike of this caliber.
Fatties are awesome. The tires do actually go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Too bad Trek make horrible bikes. Thiere frames is a joke.
you are totally wrong
Gay
LOVED IT, til i seen price. bastards lol
Nothing comes free in this world
"I seen"
There's your problem right there
@@janeblogs324 I saw
@@Jamesthebikeguy true but one shouldn't have to bend over like that when purchasing a bike.
I live in Ontario and I'm so on the fence with buying this bike. I have a Trek Stache now (size L). I love monster trucks.
