Overnight Woodland Camp in the Rain. Spit Roast Trout. Billy Can Baking. Outhaus Canvas Swag.

- In this video, I am in a new permission woodland for a solo overnight camp in my canvas swag. An evening of good food, a couple of cheeky local ales, a nice fire, the welcoming sounds of the woodland and just a little bit of rain.
Having arrived in the woodland in my Land Rover, I just had a short walk to find a nice spot to set up camp next to a fallen tree. The usual tasks of setting up my shelter and organising my kit, then collecting firewood before the rain came in.
As the first drops began to patter on my tarp, I set about preparing and cooking a delicious dinner and enjoying the evening, nice and dry beside may fire while the heavens opened.
Morning brought the promise of dryer weather and feeling refreshed from a very comfy nights sleep, I make coffee and breakfast before packing away.
I really needed this little break beneath the trees.
I hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching.

Great to have you back, Simon.
You'll never forget Maggie, and neither will we.
It's almost 50 years since my childhood dog left us, and I can still shed a tear for him.
The pain will pass, but the memories won't.
My thoughts are with you all.
40 years for me and I'm like you. About once a year J still mourn.
Really enjoying your videos Simon, you haven’t been making many lately, hope you and your family are well, looking forward to more interesting content and great ideas for camp cooking. Take care. Keith
Another amazing video Simon. My heart exploded when you started to talk about Maggie. All the best to you and your family through this difficult time. She will be remembered.
R.I.P. Maggie WE thank GOD for giving us these WONDERFUL FURRY OR FEATHERED FRIENDS 💔❤👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Great to see you back
Just seen the news about Maggie, my condolences.
Beautiful camp Simon. Looked like a lovely, lovely time. Good memories of Mags. The problem with awesome dogs is we outlive them. For me over 10 of them in my lifetime. Each is a piece of my heart/memories now. No words I or anyone says can take away the sadness BUT I pray the memories which are for our forever joy of them owning us will always be there to help. May the memories gently replace some of the heartache, as "life goes on". Again as always, thank you so much for taking us along with you and sharing Mags. ATB👍👍
I really like the part Ken, where you said they own us! Very true. I dont know if you believe in God, but I do know we will see them again in heaven, and it will be for eternity!😊
Sorry for the loss of Maggie. Losing a family member is never easy. Glad you were able to get out into that amazing looking forest....soooo FLAT, prayers to you and your family as you remember Maggie!
It is great to have you back Simon. I'm so sorry about Maggie. She'll be missed round the world.
That rainbow trout looked amazing buddy! ✌🏻️ It was such a pleasure to camp with you Simon! I look forward to sharing our adventure. 🏕🔥🍻🥩
Thank you so much for your videos! I had a misfortune, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I also created a channel and am trying to move in that direction, but so far not very successful((ll
Thanks buddy! It was an awesome camp - let’s do it again sometime soon 😁👍
@@simonablokeinthewoods absolutely buddy! 🤙🏻 Let's get planning! 🔥
It’s great to see you back out in the woods. A tarp is a saviour this time of year still. Maggie was a gorgeous girl and brought so many great memories for you, your family and even us viewers. A very sad time regardless of knowing it’s coming one day. I’m dreading when the day comes our Dane goes, but I just enjoy his big nature whilst we can.
Once again thoughts out to you and your family. 🫵🏻
💔❤🧡🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hello Simon, nice to hear from you again. I love this video because it was created without unnecessary technical aids and coming Back to the Roots. I can understand your loss because I also lost my Maggi 5 years ago. My sincere condolences. Keep it up and keep your head up. Pinky and Frank from Bavaria
Nothing worse than losing a beauty like Maggie who you share your times with. Take care Simon
Hi Simon, I'm truly sorry to hear about your loss! Maggie has been absolutely brilliant to watch over the years and you're relationship so lovely to have been witnessed by so many. In time you will realise how well you've documented her life and you're precious time together creating content for us all to enjoy! You always treated her so well and watching you two together was so heart warming. Keep up the great work Simon, cheers for now, Seamus (Stoke Ferry-Norfolk)
I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Maggie was a special friend. This is the first time I've written to you. I live in Canada in BC, againg I was sorry to hear of Maggies passiing
.
Perfect stress-relieving getaway. Everyone should be so blessed. I know how the loss of a great canine friend feels. Our big cuddly Staffordshire terrier passed a few weeks after the loss of my first wonderful bride due to cancer. I swear Delilah hung on to be a comfort to my wife and family.
“Little drop of black rum” pours a triple 😂😂 good man Simon
What a joy and privilege to have shared in a small part of Maggie's wonderful life, and how generous of you to gift it to us. These videos mean that 100s of thousands of us will remember her.
Thanks Simon, A lovely spot for a fantastic camp, I could smell that trout! I'm so sorry about Maggie, she was a lovely dog and I sadly know your pain only too well.
I just have 1 word for your dinner...MEOW! But my heart sank when you told us about Maggie. Condolences, man. It's so hard to loose a fur baby. We only get them for a short while. They bring so much joy, comic relief and companionship to our lives.
Great video despite the underlying sadness Simon. Thank you, and RIP the lovely Maggie🙏🖤
🐶 I’m so sorry Simon. We’re all blessed for the times you’ve shared her with us all. You did need this, and I’m grateful you felt like sharing this with us. Can’t speak for all, but we needed it too. ❤
Awesome and relaxing adventure 😎 condolences on the loss of Maggie 😢 I loss my dog (willy) five months and your Maggie videos brought me comfort
My condolences for the loss of your dear loved one.😢I can relate. Thank you for all you do. Your videos are such a bright spot in my day. With love and respect for your mad skills in the woods. From Minnesota, USA❤
Simon , so sorry for your loss ! RIP Maggie . Remember the good times , silly times, funny times .
My little pal is now 18 yrs old and slipping slowly away, hearing , sight both almost gone . But taste and smell and waterworks and pooping working well . Tail wags to smell of yummies . And to cuddles . Take care and reminisce and take time before replacing her . She will tell you when . She’s watching your every move ! Stay strong .
Just watched your latest video Simon . Didn’t know we had lost Maggie. I say we because we all loved her too. So ,so sorry. People without dogs don’t realise what it’s like when they leave us. Love to all the family mate.
Once again Simon, sorry that you lost Maggie. It takes time to get over those good dogs. I've lost 3, the last 2 years ago. Still not quite over it. I enjoy your videos, though I don't comment much. Nothing better than trout on a fire outdoors. Cheers
Nice one mate. Sorry to hear about the loss of your pal. When it happens it's like loosing a family member. I feel for you Simon. It will get easier with time, but I guess I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know.
Anyway I'm loving your videos, as ever.
Nice one Simon.
Cheers.
Mick.
I am sorry to hear about Maggie. I hope she left peacefully.
It is good you are back out in the wood and smoke.
Nice to see you back. No doubt it's been a tough few weeks. Well done!
This looked like a fun camp always a good time camping in the rain . RIP Maggie seems like such a sweet dog and lucky we got to see her on so many camps
Sorry for your loss. I'm sure she is looking over you when your out. I'm sure you will see her again one day.
Hearing this just now is so sad. Such a fine animal was Maggie. I know I wanted to hug her many times. You are so lucky to have had her, I know. A beautiful companion. She had so many wonderful adventures. Thank you for sharing her with us. I'll never forget her.
Again sorry for your loss. She touched the hearts of and will be remembered by thousands. Sending all the love to you and your family
Good to see you out and about in a glorious (and flat) woodland.
Again, my sincere condolences for your loss.
Simon as someone that struggles with mental health, I just wanted to comment that your videos bring me so much joy and peace. Thank you so much.
So sorry to hear about Maggie, I lost both of my whippets last year so I feel your pain, It's losing part of your family and it hurts like hell, but time heals all. That being said, a great and comfortable camp that was, and a top tip with the little bit of wood holding the Zebra pot lid on, I'll remember that one, thanks for sharing.
ATB Pete
Spring is the most beautiful green of all; and can help heal a wounded heart. Thank you James, for giving Simon permission to share your beautiful woodland with us. Take care Simon, be gentle with yourself. Much love to you and your family.
My thoughts are with you and your family Simon, sorry for your sad loss of dear Maggie
Lots of happy memories that will always be there to look back on for you
Great to see you back out in the sticks again
Hi Simon, so sad to hear of Maggie's passing, she bought so much joy to so many people, she will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
Deepest condolences from Dave in NZ.
A beautiful tribute to Maggie with the sound of mourning doves throughout the video. Nothing fills the aching void but in time, I hope the many wonderful memories bring comfort to you and your family.
So sorry to hear the sad news about Maggie. it's rough when you lose a family member. ♥♥♥
Hi Simon, good to see you again but take it easy mate, you'll take a while to heal, I know from experience, being out there can help a lot though.
Good to have you back Simon, another wicked video as usual. Loving the beard, very distinguished 👍
"Maggie in the Woods" ... gone but never forgotten ❤️ loved family member of "Simon and Mrs and kids in the Woods" ❤
Moin Simon from Germany,
R.I.P. For Maggie.
I had an old cat, who had passed away after 15 years of living with my family.
Those pets are like family members.
Cheers to yours
I am sorry to hear of your loss mate, a family member lost but never forgotten. kindest regards to you and your family always nice to see you cooking on an open fire thank you for the content.
It's amazing how fond some of us become of you woodsman youtubers. Thank you so much for sharing your moment of 'returning' after your grieving. So sorry for your loss.
We will all miss sweet Mags. All fur babies go to heaven and we know she's running and feeling young again.
Bye Mags😢
So sorry for your loss. Maggie was so sweet and a faithful companion. Rest in peace.
❤Maggie.
Thanks for making her a part of our lives and sharing the joy with us Simon. It’s lovely to have you back.
Such sad news about Maggie but she was a great companion on so many adventures Simon. You should be happy and proud that you gave her such a great, happy adventurous life. All the best
Simon. This is why I subscribed, pure old school Simon a bloke in the woods.
Good morning, Simon. I enjoy watching your videos, seeing you working with different kit, experimenting, looking for ways to make camping better. Norfolk must be a wonderful place to live. Thanks for sharing…from east Tennessee.
Good to see you eating well. It’s hard to beat a big, fleshy trout, much better that blood pudding and haggis…sheesh. Does your wife know why you like to go camping so much…? That your body is craving flesh? Heh, heh, heh…😄
Hi Simon, another great video and a fantastic looking meal.
So sorry to hear of Maggies passing, they certainly leave a big hole whatever size they are.
It takes time, a lot of time to heal but remember the good times with her.
Keep your chin up, she’ll always be with you I’m sure.
Another Amazing Camping Adventure Simon !! Sorry For The Loss Of Maggie. Take Care Simon.
Hi Simon, thanks for a great video. We lost our dog a week ago. Suspect she was stolen. The uncertainty of where she is is killing me. Our animals become part of our lives and saying Goodbey is so hard, but the memories will be with us forever.
There is something so special about your videos that takes my mind to that place you are camping, Maggie will always remember for every one of us who enjoys your videos and her in it. She was a lovely dog
Good to see you back Simon. Maggie really was a special girl who really did brighten up the videos with her antics. I know it’s awful when the time comes to let them go, but you’ll always have the memories and videos. Best wishes to you and all your family at this tough time.
Really sorry to hear about maggy pal 😢
Thanks for the great video. Really sorry too hear about Maggy . Always food for you too be out in nature good fire n food . That trout and bannock looked amazing. Washed down with some nice beers 🍺 😊
Hi Simon. So sorry to hear about Maggie. Our deepest condolences. I missed you not posting lately and have realised how much you've become part of our life. You are my go to guy for all things outdoors, and my wife thinks the same. Maggie will be with us forever, thanks to your vlogs, on your great adventures over the years. Best wishes. Diarmuid
That trout looked delicious. A spit roaster might be a near-future addition to my camping kit...
Sorry to hear about Maggie. My dad and I lost one of my childhood cats in January. He was born in our garage, almost 17 years ago, and we've had him (and one of his sisters) ever since. Still to this day I find myself choking up when I think about him. It really goes to show how profound of an impact they can have on our lives.
Also, I went on my first solo camp this past weekend, motivated by your videos (among a few other channels). Nothing crazy, just a tent at a well-established campground, and some hot dogs over the fire (and hot chocolate, of course), but it went smoothly and I had so much fun. I hadn't been camping since I was a kid, and now I can't wait to get out again! Thought you might like to know that you're motivating other people to get out and enjoy what nature has to offer.
Thank you Jake!
I’m glad you had a great time , nothing better than a night under canvas eh.
Hi Simon, I have literally watched all your videos and look forward to seeing when the next one is posted true inspiration, so sorry to hear about your side kick Maggie my thoughts are with you and the family at this difficult time all the very best.
What a cosy setup in a gorgeous wood. Some very tasty looking food too.
So sorry to hear of your loss , it definately leaves a big hole for all the family but I'm sure she was well loved and her time here was well lived .
Take care Simon 👍🏕
Sleep well Maggie a true RUclips star miss seeing you full of leaves chilling out with your old dad Simon
Great to see you back in the woods Simon, and the food looked amazing.
Having lost dogs myself I totally feel your pain and like you said, you know it's coming but that doesn't make it any easier.
Thoughts are with you and family.
Nice to see you back out doing what you do best Simon Maggie will be proud❤
When we loose a dear friend like Maggie was to you it hurts. All of us that have been fortunate enough to be loved by these wonderful fluff balls are blessed. There is a beautiful poem that will give you comfort knowing that Maggie is ok now.
Goggle it. Rainbow Bridge.
Very sorry for your loss Simon. Maggie was a beautiful old soul. Great to see you back 👍🍻😊
Simon, so very sorry to hear about lovely Maggie. Always devastating to lose a much-loved pet, and she was clearly very special. A lot of us out here in YTland adored her, too. Hope you and the family are OK. You take care of yourself, fella. Thanks for this film, really appreciated.
Good to see you out Simon, camping your meal looks delicious a rainbow trout and rice meal cheers Simon for sharing a great video 👍 👏
Losing a pet is harder than anything, they are loyal and your best friends, I feel your pain Simon, they never complain and are always happy to see you. Love your stuff bro 👍🙏
So sorry to hear about Maggie. Our pets become family, and you gave her a great and happy life. All the best to you and yours Brother !
Love to you and your family in this difficult time. The harder the goodbye, the deeper the connection.
Simon, it is good to see you back out in the woods again, hearing your bucksaw doing it's job, and the crackle of a fire making your dinner. Maggie will be missed. For me, she will always be that large black fluff snoring away in your lavuu on a winter's evening.
There are more adventures ahead, and as you carry on, we carry along with you. Thank you for all the work you've done! It's treasured!
Thank you for sharing Maggie with us. Dogs are truly the best, and she'll be missed!
In the process of moving house over here but took time to sit down and watch this. We never truly lose our furry companions, we carry them with us. I still have the leash clip from my childhood dog and I've been carrying it for years now. Sounds silly but being 5000 miles from where he rests, this one little object connects me back. Gave my own Maggie a hug listening to you talk about your Maggie. Glad you are back out there Simon!
Hey Simon, great job on the video. Everything looks so peaceful and relaxing. You take it easy and don't over do it. Let the grace of God keep you in His perfect grace.
Much love to you and your family in these difficult times ❤ They do leave a huge hole in our hearts when they leave, our precious furbabies ❤️ My own Henry sends bearded kisses to all of you, as he has many to share! 😅 And what a beautiful woodland you camped in! I'm sure Maggie will be with you in spirit when she's ready ❤🐾
You gave Maggie the best life she could have ever imagined. She was loved and cherished, and will be loved and cherished. You have given us all fond memories of sweet Maggie. She lives on in your videos and with your fans. Still, I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's never easy. All the best to you and the family. -Rob
Sorry to hear you lost Maggie, she was so beautiful and with her big brown eyes,, thanks for another great video
Hi Simon, sorry to hear about Maggie. Once again your indefatigable spirit shines through. That trout looked wonderful and washed down with a couple of Norfolks finest beers. This video is medicine helps me get through. Thanks mate.
❤ In memory of Maggie. Now she is in a wonderful dog heaven watching you at all your other lovely camps. All the best from Germany to your family and you dear Simon.
I feel your pain mate for the loss of Mags. R. I. P. Sweet girl. ❤
Sorry for your loss! Thank you for sharing and thank you for the video. Great camp in a wonderful setting. Good for healing and reflecting. At 79 I’ve had my “once in a lifetime” dog, a Nova Scotia retriever years back. He was a delightful character, gone, but never forgotten. Delightful memories keep well.
Another great video Simon. My favourite way to relax after a days work, watching your vids. So sorry to her about you losing Maggie. What a fab dog she was and luckily you've got loads of lovely video memories to remind you of her.
Simply magic, brilliant to watch.❤❤
Amazing video!! Im so sorry for you loss. Rest In Peace Maggie, you were goodest of good girls :) my heart sank when I heard the news, I’ll miss seeing her.
The mourning is always rough, but you’ll always have the memories!
I wish you all the best Simon!
Hello Simon, I'm so sorry to hear that Maggie has passed. My Condolences, they are a member of the family and it hurts just as much as if it were a human member. All of you take care and may your grief lessen as time goes by and remember all the good times with her.
Thanks again for sharing about Maggie. I’ve no doubt that time in the woods is therapeutic, and you’ll always have the great memories of travels with her. All the best to you and your family as you work through this difficult time.
Love you Simon. I know what you are going through and will get better over time. Maggie is just on a new adventure and some day, I feel like the both of you will reunite and be able to explore an even greater landscape then your woodland. Take care of yourself and be strong!
Maggie has been a treasure for all of us, thank you so much for sharing her. Thank you for the memories and blessings and hugs to your family.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Maggie was so beautiful and fluffy and the star of the show. RIP Maggie you will be missed.
watching this with my 16year ol' terrier as we have seen many of your vlogs in the past with Maggie. My heart goes out to you and your family. This is the right of passage that must happen for those who include the canine kind in our families.
Also, you have just put my silly wire fiddlings to rest with that oven zebra closure!!!
hurray, a new video from Simon 👍🏻👍🏻💞
there's two things I never thought I'd see on this channel - tears ( I know how it feels) and Simon with more than a stubble. It suits you well - my beloved has one, I always loved a well groomed beard - I am biased😂
Thank you! 😁
I believe they wait for us. Next to the camp fire, on the trail, in bed on a Sunday morning, or under the table, begging for a share of dinner. Wherever they loved the best. You gave Maggie those beautiful places to wait. ❤❤❤❤.
I know I’m late but my oldest dog Buddy just passed at 14 years old when I watched your video. I feel that loss in my soul ! So sorry Simon.
Great video, felt like we all needed that camp. I hope it did the job for you Simon👍
That's a really nice woodland, Simon. Much love, Maggie. 🐶😘
So sorry to hear of a dog in the woods…her spirit will be with you each time you go out as you gave her a great life mate…chin up
Our neighbors dog was our family dog. Bingo was a shepherd mix that was loved by his father and our family equally. The kids would play with Bingo every morning on the way to school and on the way home, I think he waited for them. We loved that boy, always shopped for him on our grocery runs, when Bingo was stolen we were all devastated!
Maggie reminded me of Bingo. She seems like the dog that would be loved and belong to all the backyards and families she could access! Maggie is the best girl ever and I'll miss her on the front of the canoe, or snoozing next to the tent. Good girl Maggie ❣️
Wonderful, always fab content! ❤ who makes your wool smock?
Thank you! It’s a Bison bushcraft wool shirt 👍
Simon, I frequently turn on your Chanel to a random video and just let it run to the next video and the next. This week most of the older episodes have fittingly been ones that included Maggie. I'm so glad you have so many lovely memories of her. Thanks for another great video. Love the whiskers.
Thank you! I know those videos of Maggie will have so much more importance now, when I can face it, im going to sit down a watch some of them 🙂
Simon, sending my love and big hugs to you. So very sorry to hear the sad news of your gorgeous fluffy bear Maggie. The videos with her in were always extra special and I know you will miss her so much. Thank you for sharing another adventure in the woods even though you are feeling this huge loss. Hope to see more from you again soon. All the very best x
Never thought we’d see Simon camp in a piece of kit resemling an old ‘iron lung’ ;-). But seriously I am very sorry for the loss of Maggie. Always so cosy to see her lie comfortably enjoying the company of her caretaker.
