    A quick tip for those making this repair... the screws that hold the clock spring assembly on are put on with just a quarter turn past tight.... so to avoid stripping them when you re-assemble, be sure to turn the screws no more than a quarter turn past tight or you will strip them...
    Another tip is - when aligning the new ignition assembly for installation - be sure to remove the key from the cylinder. This will cause the steering lock throw to pop up. If you look under the column shaft you'll see the hole that the steering lock throw fits up into. Align it so that the throw nodule inserts into the hole under the column and you're good to go...

    Thanks! I appreciate the info/video. The last time I looked up a DIY fix for this issue, the video's I saw where either showing how to file back certain spots (which is what I did, and worked well for several years) or how to replace the entire piece, like you did here... but in their version, they didn't include the fact that you could re-use the original ignition cylinder... from their version, you had to replace the cylinder and reprogram.. which costs a bundle! Thanks so much... I'm looking to order that piece now!

    Had a vw a few months ago that had plastic around the shear bolts. Had to drill and extract. First time I've ran across that. 👍

    Jimmy, stumbled across your channel... My 2005 Ford Escape was running fine, turned it on to start it and it ran normally for a few moments then suddenly it died. Radio, dash, works fine. Tried turning it over, nothing, no click or anything. Kept at and it eventually started again but died a few minutes later down the road. Was able to start it again, but died again a few minutes later. After getting it back home, I still couldn't get it to turn over so I unplugged the battery, waited a minute, reconnected....and it starts. I let it sit idle but will not run for longer that a few minutes and just dies again. Sounds normal while running idle/revving up engine. Again, just dies like I turned the engine off. I should also note that when it dies, I cannot get my computer reader to work (it wont even connect to the computer with the ignition switch on. After I get it started, all connects fine there too. Does this sound like an ignition switch or worse? I am torn between trying to replace that first or just calling the dealership which is of course expensive. Thanks for any insight!

    • @terminalvelocity4858
      @terminalvelocity4858 Год назад +2

      Replaced the ignition switch, no change. Thinking it might be fuel pump as there is a whine sometimes from the rear and it will start right up for a few and then die....but when I don't hear that "whine" from the rear, the engine wont even crank.

      On something like this I'd go over the power and ground cables very well, including the ones to the fuse box. If they are all good, when the problem happens see if your PCM fuse is still powered up, if not a wiring diagram might be needed to trace it down.

    • @terminalvelocity4858
      @terminalvelocity4858 Год назад +1

      @@JimmyMakingitwork Thought I would update on what it was. Turns out yet another PCM went out. This was the 3rd one. Ford dealership could give no reason why after having my Escape for over a week other than just a bad PCM, and of course just outside of warranty. A bit ridiculous since it costs $1,400 to replace it. I've never heard of a PCM going out so often and clueless on what to do. Any ideas? Could moisture be at fault maybe if the windshield cowels aren't sealed properly? Yesterday it rained very heavily for over two hours and I noticed it running rough at idle, almost like a misfire for a moment. I've also replaced the IAC valve, MAF sensor, fuel filter, PCV valve too...all in the last few months. Checked with a reader afterwards and no codes except a P0420 which I've had for a long time now and plan on getting diagnosed soon. Vehicle is running fine at the moment. Everything on these vehicles seem problematic for some reason (alternator replacement is asinine). I doubt I'll ever own another Escape, let alone another Ford after this. Great channel, appreciate the help and replies. 😎

    Thanks for the video, sure makes this job a lot easier.
    Wish you'd have included the part where you took the cowling off, but found another video for that.
    I do have to say though... although mine is a 2008 Tribute, you're wrong about the value and durability of these SUV's. Keep up on maintenence and you'll have a dependable vehicle, for a looong time. My Tribute has had the usual wear and tear breakdowns.. at 150k miles, but never left me stranded... ALWAYS got me home. Same with my B2500 pickup I had for 12 yrs... which I only traded cause I needed more seating. But the Ford/Mazda are good affordable, and I guarantee when the time comes, I'll be looking at another Mazda.

    I have a customer with an escape with the same issue and the wouldn’t get it fixed for the longest time! They could usually get it started… until they couldn’t!!! Hey how do you like those IR cordless tools? I love both my 1/2” air impacts! They definitely make one hell of a pneumatic tool! so I cant imagine their cordless tools not being great!

      The IR air tools are my go to impacts, the electric is good too. The little 3/8 is pretty strong and has held up well for over 2 years so far.

    Thank you for the info. I have Mazda tribute 09 and have the same issue in the ignition switch . Does the ignition switch can cause power steering loose and have to resart again and again to restore the power steering? Thank you in advance

    • @JimmyMakingitwork
      @JimmyMakingitwork  Год назад +2

      I don't think it should be a problem once it's started. It sounds like your engine is stalling? This could be for several reasons, like idle control, vacuum leaks and things like that. I'd have it looked at since stalling is no fun!
