I did the push-in until I didn't work anymore. Changed the ignition switch (yes, I did) but no fix. Saw this video, popped out the cylinder -thing, tapes the end, VOILA!! It worked. On my way to work. Praise God and thank you, lady, for this video.

Holy cow I can't believe this worked 😂 I've been dreading fixing my car because according to other videos I watched I'd be spending anywhere from $50 to $160+, one dude's video said I would have to literally cut a bolt with a grinder to get the ignition assembly out 😱 and then you brilliantly explain how to use electric tape and a knife to fix the problem in minutes in your videeo. Thank you! My car is running again!

I saw ur nails and this was only 14 mins long so I said I’m looking. You are an absolute lifesaver. We drove our dam escape until we couldn’t push the key in any harder! We did wat u did until we get the part. It worked!!!! Your awesome. Thank you so much.

I did this...such a great DIY fix. However, when I did it I had my driver's side door open and the door alarm which goes off when you have the door open and the key in started its "ding, ding, ding...". I completed the fix, put everything together and it is still going off. Once I close the door, it stops. Anybody out there have an idea or fix? Let me know, please!!!

Wow thanks so much! 2010 Mercury Mariner here and I called into work today … this took me all of 20 minutes … if that. God bless you girl!!

  • @arnolde2185

Not sure how long this fix will last, but it worked! I did not have to remove the bottom piece, just the covers at the top. Not sure if you thought of this hack, but it's brilliant! God bless you for posting!

Unfortunately, this is a common problem in Ford Escape. I was having the same issue with my 2011 Ford Escape. My Mechanic had to replace my ignition switch cylinder. It solved the problem. I was trying to do it myself like you did in your video but I was afraid I was going to deploy my airbag.

Well done! I applied two wraps of hvac metal tape two years ago and my daily driver is still trouble free.

  • @GregPadgett-oq4pi

You described my ignition problem perfectly. I followed your instructions to the letter. My ignition switch now works like new. Thank you for your help and consideration.

I just did this on my car. You are a LIFE SAVER. I feel like I can conquer the damn world. I'm not one to do anything like this but I felt empowered when I saw you do it with nails on!

I'd come across another video before this one that involved splicing wires on the opposite side of the column. I'm going to try your solution first and I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks so much for the video I literally have a ping pong sized blister from trying to start it for work I actually had to call in but thanks to you I have it working every time 😊

  • @boomerguy9935

The screw head is actually a 5.5 mm instead of a 7/32" head but I'm glad you were able to remove them!

  • @user-jl6zq6gw6l
