    I really miss this kind of tennis. Just a lot of respect for the opponent, no racket smashing, no intense grunting. Brilliant shot making and the crowd just enjoying the match and celebrating at appropriate times

      Yes!!! Absolut great player. Should be seen as at least a top 20 player of all time. Imagine winning 3 slams during a time when the big3 or even big4 were relatively young. Or at least the same age you are... Imagine today one Player 34+ winning against Novak or a 35+ winning against Rafa

    It's INCREDIBLE that Federer has never lost to Wawrinka outside of clay. Just shows you how much matchups matters in tennis.

    I remember watching this match. Stan was overpowering Rog in many of the baseline rallies. Roger changed his tactic and started coming to the net more often towards the later half of the second set and the entirety of third set.

    I'm so sorry for Wawrinka to lose so many tight matches against Federer.
    I've thinking a lot about why does he have such a bad record against Federer and now I think its just that Federer is better at defence, finishing at the net and has superior mental strenght.

    That match had plenty of talking points, Fed´s wife, terrible overrule by Mourier (always been a bad ref) with Fed being confused (shouldn´t happen either, gotta be aware of the score) and a dramatic ending.
    Glad they won the Davis Cup together just a few weeks later.

    watching the highlights back now, and realizing how much of a legendary match this was...

    That was the year Fed withdrew and saved energy for the Davis Cup Final.
    This Wawrinka had a great chance to trouble or even beat Djokovic in the final. That was between AO 2014 and Roland 2015, and Stan won both. I really wanted to see that match.

      He withdrew because he was injured. People pointed out that his service motion was compromised at the end of this match immediately afterwards and before he announced his withdrawal. Plus, he got into a spat with Wawrinka right after this match, so I doubt he expected to play Davis Cup with him until that got sorted out.

    2014 was a DRAMATIC year for Fed.
    3 matches Fed had to deal with MPs, fought back, saved them and ended up winning.
    Gael Monfils at the USOpen, Mayer at Shanghai and Wawrinka at WTF.

      I miss the era of 2007 - 2014 back when tennis was so great you would face players like blake or simon in the third round now you face berritini or whatever in the quarterfinals of slams , Tennis declined so much it's crazy those were indeed the days :((

      Men's tennis still has quite a few one-hamders. It's the women who are few and far between: Suarez-Navarro, Golubic, Maria and Gasparyan: those are all the active ones I can think of off the bat.

    Dit was een fe-no-me-nale wedstrijd met een niet al te vriendelijke handshake. Hier zie je waarom Wawrinka 3 Grand Slams gewonnen heeft. Dit was een wedstrijd qua niveau van de big three onderling. Wawrinka is een fantastische tennisser geweest in zijn beste jaren. Zo'n mooie manier van spelen!

    We will not see the likes of this for years to come: a game that combines artistry, chess, exquisite technique, fencing and brutal hitting in various measures to produce crafted tennis that ebbs and flows.
    The new generation are fearsomely efficient, brutal hitters and most are very competent volleyers - but somehow it's not very engaging to watch. And they're all a bit samey
