I was going to leave the same kind of comment - only I'd add the chair umpire, I thought he was very good, the way he rushed down his chair a couple of times right when it mattered. He deserves some credit too in that gem of a match.
When Stan turns on Stanimal mode (usually against the best players under intense pressure), it's a sight to behold. And I loved seeing both Stefanos and Stan applauding each other's amazing shots. Great sportsmanship from these two, along with an incredible level of tennis.

good point. It shows these guys have clear tactics and series of shots they use to move their opponent. After five hours of intense tennis, Tsitispas is a bit late when covering this side of the court (he knows Stan is going to pass him there). So, this last volley is a bit harder than the one you pointed at.... he hesitates half a second and that's it.....amazing game. Love Wawrinka. His tennis, his spirit. What a Champ....
Stan is soo underrated..even in the big3 era, he was just one short of career grand slam with a 100% record in slam finals. That's a very very big achievement in itself !
Sacha Muratori If Tsi's would better place his serve he would have won. Too often - specially at crucial Points - he merely shot into middle area just nicely into confort Zone of Wawrinka.

at that time, i thought stefanos was overwhelmed by stan’s experience and ability, that is why he made a poor judgement on the last ball; unlike the level of his aggressive play throughout the match against a world-class player. it was quite a match.
Zanpoyo Nah, every major is just difficult in different ways. None of the majors have to deal with the heat Melbourne does None of the majors have to deal with the long grinding rallies Paris does None of the majors have to deal with the slippery & skidding conditions London does And none of the majors have to deal with the humidity New York does If one was the “hardest” to win then by definition the others are “easier” to win. Therefore if a player has mastered winning the “hardest” major, the others should be cake. But we know that’s not the case, because Rafa doesn’t own the others like he does RG.
1st time playing Stefanos esp of his calibre so Stan knew this was a potentially dangerous match- and he was right! Good thing he held his nerve & composure.
Tsitsipas had wound himself up way too much for this match. Think he genuinely thought he could win the tournament and put way too much pressure on himself. He took a big dip after this match for a few months - it was definitely a learning curve for him.
2019 was such a weird year for him. He only got 8 wins at grand slams, exclusively at RG and AO. But then he wins the World tour finals. I think indoor hard is his best surface
@@MrWumbo-ck8iy think it took him months to recover mentally and emotionally from this loss. It reminded me a bit of when Jennifer Capriati lost to Monica Seles at the 1991 US Open. Her expectations of winning allowed her to put too much pressure on herself and the loss really damaged her.
Roland Garros really needs to introduce a hawk eye system like every slam... there's being traditional and then there's being absolutely sure the point goes to the right player at the end of the day cuz crucial moments like that can change the tide of the game. As for having no tie break like the other slams I guess it's fair to keep it like that cuz of its tradition as a grueling slam. Tho this just contributes to why Nadal has been so dominant not as a clay goat but as a stamina tank. Even b4 djokovic' emergence when comparing Nadal and fed I always thought Federer was the better tennis player while Nadal was the better overall athlete with great physical , agility and stamina and lasso style play that makes him outlast anyone on clay.
No way, they need to keep the tradition. This is what makes the game fun. The suspense. They already getting rid of Linesman, thousands of jobs now gone. This game is not automation.
