Well done coverage of this show! One of my childhood favorites. I loved Burn Notice and always thought Sam / Bruce Cambell looked so familiar… wasn’t until I saw him by chance in Xena Warrior Princess that I recognized him so young… and found the western comedy treasure “Adventures of Brisco County Jr” once again!
The horse has a name, my dude!!! His name is Comet!! I can’t believe you didn’t mention the music!!! They’ve been using the music for the Olympics almost as long as the song is old.
Bruce Campbell is a legend, not only did he bring Ash Williams into our lives, he starred in this and a few years later in an equally awesome show called Jack Of All Trades. I haven't seen this for many years, I'll have to find it again :-)
i so loved both of these shows... and made sure to get the dvd box sets for both of them.. has been a while since we watched though... am def going to have to pull them out again
This is truly one of the most underrated shows ever, and deserves to be in the ranks like Firefly. I remember this show like it were yesterday. This show cheered me up during tough times in high school. The FOX network were total idiots back then, even today the FOX network are true idiots and crack heads. These people should understand back then that if shows can't survive on Friday & Saturday nights, then put shows on other nights instead of Friday or Saturday. They canned a lot of great sci-fi shows like Brisco, including but not limited to Dark Angel, Firefly, Space: Above and Beyond, The Visitor, John Doe, etc. My Point is--FOX doesn't know how to properly promote and save a show if their lives depended on it.
I don’t think the show held up well, but I’ll agree with you about FOX. I gab up watching the network entirely when it was clear they’d cancel every new show I loved in its first season if everyone didn’t watch the first four episodes.
It was made at least 15 years too early. Had this come around in the 2000s or later, we would be speaking of this show with the reverence and viewership of BSG and Stargate on Syfy channel.
Damn, has it been almost 30 yrs.? Brisco, was the best; ahead of its time, too witty, too thought provoking, ...who can say. I loved it from the get go, A treasure when it came out on DVD. Personally, one of the best series ever to be made. Excellent narrative,...a fan of my own liking. And Dixie was sooo easy on the eyes.
One of my all time favorite shows. I watched it as a kid and when I got the DVDs as an adult, I regularly watch it. It's a fantastic mix of Westerns, Sci-Fi, Comedy, with nods to many other genres along the way. Great characters, fun and interesting situations, some great and ridiculous plots, plus just way ahead of its time. I got my wife hooked on it as well. All the main stars were so well cast, and the supporting characters really flesh out this weird, fantastic show. Aaron Viva and Prof. Wickwire make me laugh out loud every time. Such a crime that it didn't get another season. I think there should be a sequel series with Brisco and company in the early 20th Century as the West really starts to transform. This is the Show We Both Need and Deserve!
100% same here. When my partner got me the collection on DVD for my birthday many years ago, I knew it was meant to be lol. She loved watching it with me too.
Hey JoBlo, you forgot to mention about the actor Julius Carry's role years before Brisco County Jr when he played the character Sho Nuff in the 1985 movie "The Last Dragon".
This show was terrific! Fun, adventure, wit, comedy, action, sci-fi, mystery, romance, this show had it all. It was evident the actors were having a great time in their roles.
In Bruce Campbell's autobiography he talks about how Fox pushed this show hard. This was on first because they thought this would be a big hit and they thought a weaker show like the X-Files would benefit from a strong lead-in. The X-Files was a surprise hit and was much cheaper to make since it was set in the present day, so the network went all-in on that instead. I wish they had kept doing both, but they were really only interested in making shows that matched the X-Files tone after that. Millennium, Strange Luck, Brimstone, VR.5, etc. Shows that were quirky and fun had no chance.
I remember this one from my childhood and it was fantastic. Still is. Every couple of years my husband and I take a week or two and binge watch it, it's just that good.
Hot damn, totally forgot about this show. Man I loved it! My brother and I waited for the next season that never came, sigh. We were bummed out when we found out it wasn't coming back. Thank you for covering it. I gotta send this to my bro.
Still miss this show. Found it on DVD, and had to pick it up. And it had some big names in it, before they became big. Also miss our old family friend, the Gunny. Dad met him, when he first went into the Corps, and they started what became a life long friendship. We rode with Bob out to Sturgis a few times, and the last time I ran into him, was at a national event, at the Indian Motorcycles tent, after I had laid my bike down, earlier in the year. Walked over to me in my wheelchair, broken right knee, and spent a couple hours with us, wandering around the event. Met up with him the next morning for breakfast, and I had run across a copy of this show and full metal jacket, at a used sale on the way out. Didn't expect this, but he picked up the bag, to see what we had found, and that was when, as I hadn't seen the pilot, that he had been in it. Both were ones dad liked, that were a birthday present for him. Bob signed both, with a message for him. So glad we got the chance to see each other one last time. Miss you Gunny.
Oh man, I LOVED this show as a kid. Was definitely my favorite thing on TV. I thought Bowler was so funny and cool and I loved that his outfit looked so much like the X-Man Bishop's costume (coincidence?!?) as I was very into X-Men at the time as well. Of course I had a HUGE crush on Dixie, as anyone who watched this probably did. I distinctly remember that one episode it was implied that the bad guy, Bly, was from the future and had come back in time to obtain the Orb. Maybe this was in the season finale or something because it seemed to have never been addressed. It is fun to think about this show again but I am still so sad we only got one season! RIP Brisco County Jr!!!
That was late on but not the end - Bly mention it and a woman comes back in from the future to tell Brisco and even Brisco goes back in time (twice) but they finished the last 7 or so episodes after the Orbs where removed...
Thank you for the nice tribute to Julius Carry at the end. Bruce was big into blogging around the time Julius died and as far as I can recall, he never once acknowledge his former co-star's passing and that always left a bitter taste in my mouth. That being said, I absolutely love the show, snatched it up immediately when it was released on dvd. and oh my, you were spot on about Kelly Rutherford. not only was she a knockout on the show, her and Bruce's chemistry was amazing.
They did a live reading with the original cast (those who are still around) last year and her chemistry with Bruce is still there. Also sad to hear Bruce didn’t talk about Julius, the behind the scenes on the DVD seemed to show them being very friendly -David-
This made my Friday nights worth looking forward to. This show with Sightings, X Files all stacked in one night. Bowler had a strong screen presence and was a strong character that could have held a single episode on his own.
This was an AWESOME show! It definitely got shortchanged by the network! My dad and I used to watch this show (which was a spiritual descendant of Wild Wild West - a show my dad also loved back in the day) and loved the humor and action. Bruce was born to play Brisco and the cast was strong. I had always hoped there would be a TV movie reunion (although having lost Julius Carry, it will definitely be missing that partnership Brisco and Lord Bowler had together). I can picture one set in post WW1 SF; Dixie at some point returned to Brisco and they had a son (Brisco III). Brisco is nearing a crossroads in his life - whether to step back from the bounty hunting biz and let his son continue, or to keep going. Perhaps Lord Bowler could have had a son (or daughter) who turns up, and the fun begins! Of course, Comet, Jr. is also introduced. One little nitpick - you neglected to mention that Billy Drago was the father of actor, Darren E. Burrows who played Ed, on Northern Exposure.
@@kmaher1424 he studied Bass Reeves, if you don't know who that is, look him up. A genuine bad ass who took no shit from anyone and is the live person that the Lone Ranger was based on. Loved this show! Great characters, fun stories, and awesome action. Should also note that the theme song became NBC's Olympic music when they would be previewing the next day's events.
Another one I used to watch with my dad, though he wasn’t aware of Bruce Campbell’s prowess in the Evil Dead series. Still it was a fun sitting around the fire place watching it with him.
Beautiful ending & dedication to J.J. Carry III !! With all that was mentioned: cast, crew, scenes, appearances & the almighty BTTF Train 🚂 fact etc. etc. I’d say this was one of my all time faves on your channel! Thanks 🙏🏼 for the memories! Cheers
I still remember when this show came out. I started watching it out back in my little clubhouse with some bunny ears. It was a small black and white tv too. So boy was watching a Western show on a black and white tv appropriate or what? lol But I loved this show. I watched it over again on dvd last year too. I had forgotten about all the sci-fi stuff as I had not seen it since its original run. It's to bad it only ran one season. Bruce was so perfect in that role.
*So that's what happened to Sho-Nuff. Cancer is a bad way to go. Rest In Peace. It's really too bad Bruce Leroy couldn't save him with some soul glow.*
When Bowler sang that...as a kid it got me. As am adult it is so powerful to see that mountain of a man sing so beautifully to his characters dying friend.
This was my favorite show when first broadcast, and again binge-watching it on Amazon Prime. Daisy always left me wanting more. As to X Files, I didn't watch it at the time, but I did catch up a couple years ago. The world needs Bruce Campbell, wise-cracking heroism. Oh ya, and that horse of his ,,,
Probably my favorite celebrity interaction was reminiscing about this show with Dom Flemons, who was nominated for a Grammy for his album, "Black Cowboys" in 2018. By complete happenstance I had just started re-watching the show a month or so before seeing him live.
Socrates Poole... The "Dwight Shrute" of the Old West. Seriously, props for including a snippet from Bruce's barely-there cameo from "From Dusk 'til Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money"
I really dug the surreal silliness of this show. The painting tracks on a rock really brought me in. This was the first time I'd ever seen Bruce Campbell. It was only after seeing this that I learned what a legend he was. Never got around to seeing Maniac Cop 1 & 2 though. I already knew Julius Cary from The Last Dragon, and it was awesome to see him be funny. Pete was the best villain character ever, and Kelly Rutherford was the most the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen at that point. This show being cancelled clued me in to that anything weird or good didn't have much time in this world. That's not so true nowadays. I'd love to see a continuation!
As a 3rd grader Friday night with Brisco and X-files was amazing! I loved this show so much it was the only show thinking back that I can remember that was the lead in for X-Files
1. I loved this show!!! 2. Bruce Cambell will always be the coolest & sexiest B list actor 3. Thank you for giving a shout-out to Enver Gjokaj, he's a fantastic under used/ appreciated actor!
It just hit me. Brisco County Jr. looks and acts a whole lot like James Garner's original Bret Maverick. Maybe a little further out but the same sort of personality.
Kind of, but Maverick, by his own admission, was a coward haha. Brisco was more courageous, and definitely cockier and confident regarding his physical skills
My best memories of this show are that it was an extremly entertaining oddity, and felt...out of place. I haven't thought about it in 20 years though, so I appreciate this video. I HAVE to watch this show again now.
I just re-watched the entire series a couple of months ago. Back when it was on Fox, it premiered at the same time as X Files. I and a few friends all _hoped_ X Files would "catch on", we just _knew_ that Brisco County Jr would be a hit and continue on for years. Whoops! BTW, I was in my mid 30's back then - so I "got" most of the dialog. I _loved_ Pete.
Me and my hip friends found ourselves leaving our hip bar early on Fridays to watch TV shows. Glad the FBI occult show caught on. But I loved Briscoe...
I think Bruce Campbell looks a lot like my dad, so I texted my mom to ask if she knew who he was. I didn't expect her to because she hates horror movies and definitely hasn't seen Evil Dead, but she immediately texted back and said, "Of course! From Hercules." I feel like my parents probably watched this show too, it seems like something they would have really liked, and that's not a bad thing.
I was super young but watched every episode of this over and over. I was born in 88 so I was barely old enough to remember watching this but named my first dogs Briscoe brownie and bowler, blackie.... because they were brown and black… And because this was my favorite show. and that’s the only real memory I have of this show. I liked it enough to name my dogs after it… So that’s really the only memory I have of watching the show. I don’t really remember the actual show… I was just too young. But I know I watched it and loved it.
Brisco was such a great balance of action, comedy & cool. Like Neon_Radd_Catcher said, it made me happy when it came on. Couldn't wait for the next episode. There was nothing else like it on tv before. I was so mad and complained about it being cancelled for years. I really can't explain how mad I was at network tv after it was cancelled. This show, Firefly, Deadwood & Carnivale being cancelled, all made me quite disgusted with tv series and whoever was choosing to cancel such great shows.
God I miss this show. We could barely catch it on here, it was on random times after the first few eps. But Dixie (Kelly) was a dream and the combo of Brisco and Bowler was hilarious. To this day I can not see John Pyper Ferguson in any role without first hearing "BRISSSSSSSSSSSSSSCCCCCCCCO" constantly.....Especially when they both popped up on Burn Notice.
I loved this show so much. All the cast were fantastic and I loved how some characters were recurring like Dixie, Pete and Whip and the Elvis Sheriff. I still remember it years later. I was in hospital when I was a kid and I raced a granny to the TV room so I could get the remote first to watch this. I had the pleasure of going to Bruce Campbell's book tour and everyone asked him about Ash and I got to ask him about his memories from this show. Over too soon, but an absolute gem and fondly remembered.
FOX in the 90s had so many shows that were ahead of their time. either they couldn't afford the production or they couldn't find an audience. Can you imagine if Brisco County Junior or Space: Above and Beyond had come out like 10 years ago? Not only would they have had better effects and willing audiences, but genre fiction wouldn't be so niche, so they could get high profile actors.
Nowadays people will listen or watch to the dumbest things. Back then they had other things to do, like read books or spend time with their families. Combine this with all your favorite shows, on all the different channels at the same time...either watch a new show, or watch your favorite show. I personally loved this show as a ten year old kid, even though I didn't favor westerns.
I'm glad I was able to watch this show when it originally aired and I kept hoping and praying that we would get another season. Sat and watched many episodes with my grandmother who I was living with at the time. We both absolutely loved it.
I never seen this show, as I don't think it was ever shown on UK TV. But I love Bruce Campbell and have been catching up on DVD other cancelled shows like Jack of All Trades. I'd love to see this show ad Campbell is a great Character actor.
Just recently started viewing the show on amazon prime. I had not watched it since 1994. It still holds up well and oh my goodness the nostalgia! I miss the 90's! Also during that time watch Hercules Legendary Journeys and Star Trek Next Generation.
Comet the Wonderhorse will always have a place in my heart, despite the fact he was 3 different horses with different specialties. For instance, one was used specifically for shots where he rears up on his back hoofs. Common place thing with horses used in westerns. Some horses are experts in falling down like they are shot, some are gentle tempered and used for slow riding scenes where characters are talking while going through town or something. Bruce mentioned it being 3 different horses on the dvd commentary.

Love Brisco County Jr. One of my fave 90s shows. So much fun and deserved so much better.
Loved the show. Have it on dvd. Going to show it to my kids wheb they get older
I just recently finished showing this series to a friend who really dug it, I'm happy to say.
Wow, I had completely forgotten this show. Great job, love the new series and look forward to more additions to it.
I was 13 when this came out, and I was hooked from the beginning. Just recently purchased this series to show it to my wife and daughter.
Cheers
Thanks for featuring an old childhood favorite of mine. And a special thank you for featuring an old family friend, RIP Jeffrey Boam.
I used to love this show! wish it would have continued!
Me too 😊
God I loved this show! Thanks for this best Believe after watching your video straight to eBay and picked up the series! Great job 👍
One of my favorite TV series ever.
*So that's what happened to Sho-Nuff. Cancer is a bad way to go. Rest In Peace. It's really too bad Bruce Leroy couldn't save him with some soul glow.*
Still my favorite Bruce Campbell show! This show deserved to get more seasons! :) great video!
Thanks
I'm a big fan of BCJ. Hated to see it get cancelled.
When Bowler sang that...as a kid it got me. As am adult it is so powerful to see that mountain of a man sing so beautifully to his characters dying friend.
Good show 👏 my dad would put this on TV and me and him would see every episode
Got me right in ma feels with the end. Thank you for ending with the beautiful song with a wonderful person✊🏽
This was my favorite show when first broadcast, and again binge-watching it on Amazon Prime. Daisy always left me wanting more. As to X Files, I didn't watch it at the time, but I did catch up a couple years ago. The world needs Bruce Campbell, wise-cracking heroism. Oh ya, and that horse of his ,,,
I forgot all about this show...Awesome show!!! Hadn't seen it since I was about 14.
Probably my favorite celebrity interaction was reminiscing about this show with Dom Flemons, who was nominated for a Grammy for his album, "Black Cowboys" in 2018. By complete happenstance I had just started re-watching the show a month or so before seeing him live.
Loved seeing a minute of Wonderfalls in this!
Billy Drago as John Bly reminded of an evil Martin Short.
a little of that and whole lotta David Bowie's Goblin King for me
He and Jeff Fahey just have [had] that really intense, crazy-eyed but oddly compelling look locked-down.
More like if Axel Rose was a homicidal cult leader
Glad someone else remembered this show. It was great and my first introduction to Bruce.
Socrates Poole... The "Dwight Shrute" of the Old West.
Seriously, props for including a snippet from Bruce's barely-there cameo from "From Dusk 'til Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money"
My God, such an underrated show. Thanks for making this video, hopefully it'll help more people discover it.
One can only hope, maybe one day I can do Jack of All Trades, another fun Bruce Campbell show
I really dug the surreal silliness of this show.
I loved this series and always looked forward to the next week to find out what shenanigans Brisco County Jr. would get into!
this is the craziest looking show I've never heard of, I must see it now
Isaiah W You look old enough to remember. 1993 I was 19 and this show was one of many I watched while partying it up in college.
@@taoist32 not quite, I was a 5 year old tyke at the time, and I definitely did not have Bruce Campbell on my radar yet
Isaiah W That’s too bad. Watch these shows and get your childhood back.
yes, you must
I was in love with this show... I've never heard anyone else talk about it in my life
As a 3rd grader Friday night with Brisco and X-files was amazing! I loved this show so much it was the only show thinking back that I can remember that was the lead in for X-Files
1. I loved this show!!!
2. Bruce Cambell will always be the coolest & sexiest B list actor
We're about the same age, I can still hear Pete's voice saying , "well awright then Buh ris co"
Me and my hip friends found ourselves leaving our hip bar early on Fridays to watch TV shows. Glad the FBI occult show caught on. But I loved Briscoe...
Well I'm glad The X-Files caught on, because it's probably my favorite show of all time.
Damn... you guys are killing me, in a good way. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for bringing this back. SHO NUFF!
Just recently watched the whole series with my kids and they all loved it. The question asked by all was "why was this canceled?"
Two Jesse Shade videos in a week? FANTASTIC!
I remember seeing this when i was a kid and praying for an xmen movie with Julius Carry as Bishop
He was always my casting choice for Bishop too !
Loved this show I have the DVD set I wish it was not canceled. Great video thanks for uploading and sharing.
He has a cameo in almost everything Sam Raimi Directs. Along with Sam's brother Ted.
I loved Brisco County Jr. I was devastated when it was canceled.
This show was just getting good when they cancelled it. A real shame
Can we get Quantum Leap please? Most criminally underrated TV show I've ever seen.
I watched this weekly as a kid. Almost cried when it was canceled. I tracked it down during my 2nd deployment, and watched the entire series twice.
YEEEEEESSSSS!!!!! i was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who remembered (enjoyed) this show!
This show was my jam. I even went as Briscoe for Halloween that year
I loved this show growing up. Can you do one on Eerie Indiana?
I'm glad I was able to watch this show when it originally aired and I kept hoping and praying that we would get another season. Sat and watched many episodes with my grandmother who I was living with at the time. We both absolutely loved it.
I loved this series when I was younger and when I saw the DVD in stores, I bought that faster than you could spit into a spittoon.
I just started watching Brisco again last week! I never forgot.
Bruce Campbell will Always be one of my favorite actors based on Evil Dead.
11 minutes in, I was clapping exclaiming bravo! thank you for reminding me of how great the first season was.
I never seen this show, as I don't think it was ever shown on UK TV. But I love Bruce Campbell and have been catching up on DVD other cancelled shows like Jack of All Trades. I'd love to see this show ad Campbell is a great Character actor.
It use to come on the channel Sky One when new and I think Bravo for reruns.
Just recently started viewing the show on amazon prime. I had not watched it since 1994. It still holds up well and oh my goodness the nostalgia! I miss the 90's! Also during that time watch Hercules Legendary Journeys and Star Trek Next Generation.
Adam David's Oddities Came our in 1993. We’re you watching on vcr?
@@taoist32 No, I guess I got my year messed up.
"Kiss my cowboy boots"- Lord Bowler
Sho-nuff in the west! lol
I love this show! I used to watch it on TNT every Saturday morning. I thankfully found it on DVD a while back
No mention of Comet?!? That horse was awesome!
