I was one of these uneducated but very vocal anti-abortion conservative Christians like 5 years ago. I used all the exact same arguments, I spent my days angry online spewing my ignorant hate, and life was literally miserable. I believed a very cultic, evangelical-like version of Christianity and of reality.
And I turned it all around. I changed my sources of information, I spend more time reading books and articles than I do watching news, I've changed my methodology of thinking from reactive and confirmation bias to critical thinking and the willingness to have to change my mind. And looking back on those arguments, the ones like what the anti-abortion crowd still use and I realize just how ignorant I was, and how much that mindset is actually far worse for women and children. The REAL picture is far more complicated than the tiny little imaginary world they isolate themselves into. And with all of that, I didn't even have to give up being a Christian. In fact, I live a less contradictory life according to my faith now than I did back then.

Women, especially grandmothers from Eastern cultures, Indian, Chinese, Filipinos, etc. move into the household for a year or so to help take care of new grandchildren. It is not shameful. It is not somehow some mark of some “patriarchy”. If you really had any kind of cultural sensitivity or cultural knowledge, you wouldn’t have looked on it like it was some kind of oppression of women. They do it because they love their families.

I believe here in the West, feminism has taught a whole lot of women to despise and look down on any kind of mothering/care taking roles. Motherhood is akin to victimhood. We have a whole cottage industry of nursing homes and hospice care that does not exist in Eastern cultures. In the East, old people get too weak to care for themselves, family takes them in, no questions asked. In the West, old people get too weak to care for themselves, nursing homes and assisted living. Mothering isn’t valued, it’s a liability unless you get paid for it.
