JMJ+ amen. I hope JD or someone close to him actually reads this. I'm a retired high school teacher. In doing an in-depth study of student failure, I found my preconceived notions dissolving. Students can't learn if they are neither in attendance nor motivated when they are. Did you know that student absenteeism starts in early elementary school, not middle or high school? Did you know student motivation leaves when then are increasingly told they are failures and that's all they will ever be? Does anyone remember how tiresome it was to sit still for an hour hoping you didn't get caught playing a game with your neighbor? hmm? Do you suppose two functional-parent households would be helpful? How about a parent that checked in frequently with the school to see how their child/children was/were doing? How about non-addicted to drugs, sex, or alcohol parents that actually care enough to be present in their children's lives? It's not about throwing more money at the schools unless you want to give teachers an allotment for classroom supplies, books, field trips, snacks, etc. That in itself would be equal to getting a raise. hmm?
