Long range FPV - 5.8 km with Nazgul Evoque F5D and 3000 mAh LiPo!

  • Long range fpv flight test to evaluate signal reception after DJI Integra’s antenna mod. Weather conditions were good and vtx signal had little interference. Minor radio signal drop while rotating the drone, as expected due to the small single 2.4 Ghz antenna. This time flight distance was limited due to the 3000 mAh lipo battery capacity!

This is a reply to a comment on another video - I watched the video, and man, congratulations on the range, really impressive! I believe you could have gone another 1 km, but of course, the battery is an issue. Why don't you choose Li-Ion batteries? They are lighter... I also noticed the sudden loss of radio signal when turning the drone. Where is the antenna positioned on your drone? I don't think it has to do with 2.4GHz, because this happens to me with 915MHz too... you can solve this problem with an ELRS Diversity Receiver. The antenna would then be on both sides and this problem won't occur anymore. I will be installing this soon. Yes, like you, I haven't replaced the cable yet either... I can't seem to find the free time, but of course, I will do it. I am also waiting for helical antennas, but not 3-turn, rather 4-turn... they should arrive in about a month... I'm really curious! As for the GoPro camera... honestly? I was initially very disappointed with the O3 camera (because I had a GoPro mounted on my DJI FPV before), but after some time, I realized that no one really cares about the beauty of the footage... the O3 camera is quite sufficient, but use D-Cinelike and then work your magic in Adobe... So, personally, I wouldn't sacrifice flight time for a GoPro camera, because the joy is in flying long and stable... you don't fly for others, but for yourself... Good luck!

Thanks for your kind words! Now that I am very confident about vtx signal I ordered Molicels P42A to make my own 6s1p pack (let’s hope I will have everything figured out)!
My rtx antenna is located in the drone’s left frontal arm, so that signal loss was no surprise while rotating the drone. If I decide to go 7” I will have a diversity receiver installed.
You made a good point about the GoPro usage. I feel like sometimes the main purpose of the flight is the flight itself, then the GoPro really doesn’t matter. However, I really like to develop projects for recording a landscape or a natural monument, be involved in planning a trip, routes, angles, to produce a nice video. In that scenario the GoPro has its value for me. At the end what matters the most is having fun in the project!

@@BarretoFPV I gues your best option is the either new 2.4 and 900mhz mix module in combination with 4 antenna's or just diversity and get 1 mounted vertical preferebly at the front as atached to the gopro mount for example that way it's exactly the angle as you fly so vertical. and at the front so when you turn around good connection. @@DanielAx from my experience yes. I own 1550, 1850, 3000 lipos and a DIY 4200mah lion. I never tried 3000 mah lipo plus gopro, but the lipo alone weights approximately a 1850 plus gopro. The drone could probably handle (for the sake of LR), but it will become much less agile. I keep an eye on amp draw to try to be as energy efficient as possible. For the extra capacity, the lion weights only 30g more than the 3000 mah lipo, so it is my favorite for LR without a gopro.

My idea with this experiment is to test vtx signal in a extreme condition in order to determine which distances I can fly confortably.
