3:49 - full on tasting colors, which hightening are you on, my friend?... 6:22 - oh no! Well, bye Eric, I'll prey for your black smoke to arrive to the Beyond safely. Oh wow, Taln mini! That, that's so aweseme!
Oh good! I’m glad it’s working as intended - I saw a lot of people having issues with it when it first came out, though I know from my own experience that it took a while to understand the best way to use a letter opener and I wonder if that’s part of it? Maybe I was just bad at it at first, though. 😅
I just finished my mints. I am sad about it. I use my coasters every work day and Nightblood is on my desk(it's not the best letter opener, but it looks nice).
At this point I'm really hoping that there are multiple pins in the final box because we are currently missing Dalinar and Wayne who both feel like they need to be included and I also wouldn't say no to a Lightsong and a Marasi. Also I really want a Shai
Hi, I wanted to ask Jessie what she thinks of the Cassandra Clare Kickstarter, especially in comparison to Brandon‘s. I am kinda confused by the organisation. It‘s really interesting that I don‘t see anyone talking about it.
I keep trying to figure out how to respond to this so it’s really extended how long it’s taken to actually post a response, sorry for that! I’m pretty conflicted on big name authors using kickstarter. I personally need a reason given up front from the author as to why a kickstarter is necessary over another means and there’s definitely been transparency issues that both Brandon and Cassie have had to learn from. Brandon had a trial run at least with the Way of Kings kickstarter where he really had to work through the kinks and criticisms of ‘but why does it need to be done this way’. And I think this really helped when the secret project kickstarter began, as he was very up front and very transparent as to why kickstarter was necessary and why he couldn’t just go through traditional publishers (cause he could! And he intended to! But he wanted to do something special on top of that). I didn’t find the Shadowhunter kickstarter had anywhere near the same level of transparency. It wasn’t until the very end of the campaign that I saw deliberate advertisement of WHY this was necessary. Cause as much as I love shadowhunters and love the idea of special editions of them, I don’t think they’re always a good idea. And the fact that these aren’t just special editions - they’re the ONLY editions for the time being with no known trad. Publishing release is incredibly worrying to me. I don’t like the FOMO business model of making pressuring people into buying things out of fear they’ll miss out. I think the Shadowhunter kickstarter was really bad at this. Loot boxes are annoying that way and I did get quite frustrated that the Shadowhunter kickstarter had these ‘special’ drops each week that were constantly advertised (seriously I got a notification through both kickstarter AND Cassie’s newsletter every time, that’s not necessary) because they were gone so quickly it seemed pretty clear they were likely being bought using bots and it wasn’t really possible for the average person to actually get them. So constant advertising of this thing you COULD get (only if you’re quick enough!) but realistically mostly likely wouldn’t even if you sat there clicking refresh the whole time was incredibly irritating. I do find the fact that there is new Shadowhunter content that is exclusive to the kickstarter and not available elsewhere with no known plan of if ever will be publicly released to be the most problematic thing though. This is the biggest difference, I think between the Shadowhinters kickstarter and Brandon’s kickstarters - the STORIES aren’t being gatekept. It’s like how there’s this new trend to put exclusive content in X bookstore’s special edition and not other editions, so you’ll end up with four “special editions” that are almost exactly the same but each with a different exclusive chapter. People shouldn’t have to pay for multiple copies to access content in my opinion. And people shouldn’t have to participate in a kickstarter to get full canon stories. I can understand that it might be unclear to Cassie’s team how they can continue distributing these things in the future but at least making that commitment to people so someone who can’t afford it right now knows there’s things in the works. I’m glad that Secrets of Blackthorn Hall is at least already released in parts online. That comes across as the main book so it IS really good that it’s not only publicly accessible but also free. But I can very much understand if people feel upset/annoyed/resentful that they can’t get some sort of physical copy simply because they can’t participate right now. The content that concerns me the short stories - I know when I first read Tales at the Shadowhunter Academy and Ghosts of the Shadow Market, I was not expecting any of it to have any impact on the main storyline. Which was entirely wrong. Maybe these short stories being released will be more like the Magnus ones, which are a bit more isolated, but it would be a real shame to have material that is part of the connected story being gate kept. Anyway that’s my long rant. The tl:dr version is: it’s complicated. I did back the kickstarter myself because I want the books, but it did leave me with quite a bad feeling. That all being said, this is the first time (I think?) that Cassie has done a kickstarter/something like this, and just like Brandon had to go through with the WoK leatherbound kickstarter, these might just be teething issues which get better in the future so I am trying to be open minded to the possibility of the things I dislike here coming from a place of lack of experience running campaigns.
Wow.. Those of us who wanted the boxes, but not physical books REALLY got screwed on the Pins. What was the logic behind putting such popular characters in the boxes with hardback books anyway?? Just why?
Hmmm. I had kind of forgotten that was a tier. I suppose the logic the other way is, way more people are likely getting the 4 book boxes than the other boxes? But yeah I see what you're saying. -Eric
Cats are not in fact included in the box, but it was a very funny thumbnail to me. -Eric
Dang it I already ordered them!
I can’t believe no one ever understands that there are BREATHmints in the Warbreaker box!
Came to say the same. While I love the nightblood sword, the BREATHmints made me laugh so much. Such a good pun.
Lol, yeah that did go beyond me but that's extremely funny. -Eric
Awh guys, thanks so much for the shout out!! Looking forward to meeting you in person at DS Con!
I relate so much to Jess’s shaky hands, glad I’m not the only one lol
"Kezare?
That's White Sands sweetheart"
This video was great! It was more fun to watch them all in a row anyways.
3:49 - full on tasting colors, which hightening are you on, my friend?...

Oh wow, Taln mini! That, that's so aweseme!
You guys are so cute 🥰
I use the Nightblood letter opener every day! It’s fine as an opener.
Oh good! The Sanderson Fan box will just have a huge Sanderson cutout in it.
The kitties are so cute, but they both want to escape.
Love the video as usual
What is the picture on the shelf on the top right? Is that art of a book? Looks cool
Shardcats! So cute!
Just got the tracking for my Shallan figurine so got an unboxing of my own coming
Same. Your post made me check.

That bottle opener keychain is way too big, but I needed to replace my current keychain bottle opener.
Yeah, I don't think anyone would put it as a keychain. Way too big. It's cool, but yeah. -Eric
Yeah, I'm thinking of using the chain to hang from a pin on my bookshelf by my Sanderson books.
(Has the bottle opener currently attached to my keychain)
my first thoughts were I will stab myself with that if it was on my keys, and I'd get in trouble with TSA if I forgot to take it off my keys.

Agreed. I didn't realize the physical books would come with anything else. :(
Yeah that first endpaper is my computer background.
2nd!
