The perfect pedal for shoe gaze, lo-fi psychedelia, prog rock, post rock. Love it!
What about rock and all psychedelic, not just lo-fi? Post rock does not really exist. Post, as used like this, means after. Rock and roll clearly is here forever. True freedom music in a true deep sense. Freeing the mind form the b.s. and cruelty of society, creating a better one. An ongoing process. So post rock will never happen.
I have started "re-learning" the guitar and this pedal is slowing (or slo, dad joke) my progress.. I run my fuzz (cheap but awesome biyang FZ ) into the slo on dark and just want to play heavy, slow earthshaking notes of damnation. Love it
michaelmitchell7 same here....played in high school and in my 20’s-relearning the right way this time!
Hell yea dude! I just ordered one and wanna do the same thing you said you’re gonna do
@@blacklabelnc I've since stepped up to a Black arts toneworks black sheep, and added a EHX bad stone phase shifter. Oh, and a rubbernecker delay. It's pretty awesome, so heavy it's ponderous...lol
BIYANG is in my opinion one of the best pedals ever to be made available.i also own th fz an love it.i love the whole tonefancier series period.every single pedal in that line rules.
I also love notes of damnation
HEALTH vibes
Such an inspiring pedal.
I’ve got 2 of them on my board and with both on together (in various mode combinations) it’s a sound to behold.
Why 2 slo’s are needed?
@@heyheymymind1939 I run one in dark mode and one in rise mode.
I get the synthy swells from the rise mode and can add the lower octave from dark mode just on certain notes using the momentary function.
@@adrianlendon1349 Sounds interesting; would be awesome if you could post a vid of your Walrus slo:slo set up and demo
I’m thinking of buying two Slo pedals because I HATE that it’s a mono pedal, but I want to run one on the left channel and one on the right channel with slightly different settings, to create somewhat of a stereo sound. Have you tried this?
Nice man! NIN a warm place is what the intro sounds like. Got that sound down with the SLO. Live that guitar as well! Liked and subscribed
Trade afterneath for a SLO.
thats fucken sick, thanks for actually demoing a reverb with a fuzz and overdrive.. so hard to find! sounds so good
Just ordered mine! This pedal is so inspiring!
You have the best Slö demo by far on RUclips. We have similar guitar styles so this is perfect. Thanks alot mine comes in tomorrow!
yeah he had me sold on it within 15 seconds lol
Only 5 minutes in and I’m already in love!
Amazing demo. I am pretty convinced it may be time to say goodbye to EQD Transmisser as the Sample and hold, modulation and crazy beautiful vibrato in this are way more up my street...I love my Bellwether and Voyager, but the Fathom went to another home. I love the sounds I am hearing from the Slo, particularly when it hovers on the edge and doesn’t quite go over the cliff. I really like what you did with fuzz kind of broken up organically in and out around 14 minutes...
Really cool. Would be rad if it had an expression pedal control.
I think I’m going to go with this over the Afterneath.
Did you? And what made you decide?
I have the Afterneath and I still want the Slö!
Exactly what I did!!
I sold my Afterneath and bought a Fathom
I have a fathom and love it, just bought a Slo after owning a Afterneath V3 and V2, just too much for me. Think this and my fathom will be perfect!
I got one of these about a month ago and I love it! I’m not a digital reverb guy either. You can easily dial it back to make it sound more normal.
Really a good review of this wonderful pedal, thank you so much!
Wow. Sounds great
Well, there goes another $200...
Ikr. Dont need it but im getting it
Haha
Lucky you didn’t see the combo arp-87/slö cause there went 400 😂
😂😂😂😂
Great demo and cool playing! Cheers!
Best review I've seen so far. Thanks. Just bought one, worth subscribing if you're a pedal nerd like me lol
Great video, I have this pedal and didn't know what some of the controls were doing when I tweaked them. Thanks!
Lacks flerb. No deal
Edit:after watching the whole viddy, this is inovative and new.
Cool paint job!
That song in the beginning got you a instant like congrats
Love the jam at the end, so good
That outro gave me warm goosebumps.
Pretty cool pedal, sounds beautiful!
Wow, I can think of a million uses for this pedal.
Sounds amazing!!!!
You could create a soundtrack for the next David Lynch film with this bad boy and some dirt pedals
Super useful demo! Thank you!!!!
Hell yeah, Ryan! Create a new style called Surfgaze!
yo wait that ain’t a bad idea
beach fossils
It already sounds like beach goth tho
I would buy all the records for this genre. Ryan please release surfgaze LP.
yeahhhh! mine is arriving tomorrow!
Fantastic demo :)
It sounds very good! I don´t know what I would use it for in my playing though.....( blues, jazz, bad guitar player here)
great demo!
I am definitely gonna buy one
Very similar to the Fathom which I adore. A lot of the same tones. Kind of an update or sibling of the Fathom. I am not a big fan of modulation added to reverbs and delays in the same pedal. I'll add modulation pedals as needed, but this one seems a little cooler and Walrus has made this an integral part of the pedal. I just don't know. Right now I'm on the fence with the Slo. The Fathom is still a damned good ambient reverb.
I'm more of a fan of the Slo than the Fathom. They both have modulation, but the Slo allows you to completely remove the modulation where as the Fathom only allows you to set the toggle to low.
@@bobisadrummer Agree, since the Fathom is the more "traditional" reverb of the two, you'd expect it to have a "modulation off" option. Kind of baffling move by Walrus.
@@steverherb Yeah, I ultimately replaced the Fathom with an Alexander Space Race. Once the Red Panda Context v2 is released that'll knock the Space Race off my board as well.
I want one 😍
Great review!!!!!
When you say wet, just means how much of pedal signal is mixed in with it. OK I am looking for reverb types to get it actually the wettest sounding, like drops of water, rain, etc. I heard this one instrumental song by this one band one time. It seemed to go further than anyone had before with sounding actually like water dripping. Can you recommend the best pedals that does that kind of tone? Post up if you know, thanks.
Alright, this feels like it could occupy a similar space as the Dark World. Having played both, which would be more likely to find itself on your pedalboard?
Both quite different. The Dark World can do subtle, and the tone of your guitar mostly shines through fairly organically. Slo is a fun ambient pedal, but every guitar sounds the same through it and there's noticable latency - it feels like a synthesiser pedal, especially on rise mode.
You could score a Ridley Scott film with the Slo + Fuzz setting.
Great demo!
Drake Evans I started watching Raised By Wolves last night, so good.
60 Cycle Hum somehow haven’t started it yet. I might do that right now!
Drake Evans first two episodes are Ridley Scott directed and you can tell. I’m 3 eps in and it’s a top shelf sci fi show.
@@60CycleHumcast Can't wait!
Does it have Spring, hall, plate, room reverb types?
Does anyone think this would sound alright with an acoustic
I play acoustic with it all the time sounds better than the guitar in this demo
Hey really nice review! I've been eyeing this piece for some time. But im qlso very curious to whar is the song you play in the beginning ?
I am going to try it with a bit crusher that decays quickly and see what happens.
I didnt know you knew how NOT to surf! Does it drip? LOL Great into!
there is absolutely no drip in this pedal. ;-)
Isn’t this just a delay with shimmery reverb sounds? Sounds lovely, though.
That would be so great in a worship/church setting!
Now that's how reverb pedals should be played
Amazing review thank you so much!! What was the track you played in the beginning?
just something i came up with
It's a beast! :)
Cool. But can't seem to find a place for this pedal amongst all the beautiful stereo Reverbs I have.. once you go back to this pedal from let's say a spectral Reverb it's kind of underwhelming... might have to just buy two of these and run them in parallel stereo... just my opinion though. JUST MY OPINION
This breakdown is really helpful. I’m trading my small stone and June 60 for the slo tomorrow. I should know what I’m doing with it when I hook it up. Btw if I turn the mix down will the modulation still work? I think the mod by it’s self would be a really cool sound
Do you think this is different enough from the darkstar by old blood to justify purchasing it ?
How do you think TC's 3rd Dimension Chorus will pair with this? I'm anticipating a playground.

Scusa hai capito come si fa a passare dagli effetti della parte sinistra agli effetti della parte destra? Se si puoi spiagarmelo.
Slo you say? That's where I'm from!
( SLO Co. Ca.√ )
I thought the same thing when I saw the description. Go further south and you get the same sort of references from Seymour Duncan pedals...including a local (freaking amazing) taco stand.
@@ravenslaves What, like to SB County or Ventura?
Sorry... I don't understand :P
( These guys are from Oklahoma, by the by... )
SB. Like the Duncan "805" get it? Or the "La Super Rica" fuzz (best Mexican food, ever)
Fun stuff.
@@ravenslaves Oh, no... I didn't get it. Cause I was unaware of them using 805. But for reference sake... the 805 area code covers all of SLO Co. & stretches up into Monterey.
Never had Super Rica. But if you're ever in Oceano, try Old Juan's Cantina :]
What you played in the beginning, is that something you wrote or riffing? I’m a songwriter and I wondered if you have lyrics to it?
Search Nine Inch Nails a Warm Place. No Lyrics. I think thats what he was after.
Would be super with a feature to alter signal from dry to wet, vice versa @ 4:48
hey Ryan, what fuzz did you use at the end? thanks....
I have the slo and fathom, let me tell you is it the dream team, if any of you like lofi or just ambient sounds they are top dogs.
Which do you prefer?
Is the Slotva much better than the Slo?
There be Bears in that there cave! ...they's sleepin'!!!
...dreamin' about Oceans of honey!
Music..from the Hearts of Space.
A quarter hour of contemporary space reverb.
I'm Ryan __________.
Can you like make tabs for the intro
I have the walrus fathom. I like this too. Shit. Stop hurting my wallet!
I keep coming back to this video so i can pretend to experiment with it myself
Me Slo....
can it work as a normal short reverb pedal? or is it always large amounts of reverb?
Have the Meris Mercury 7 but this might be “necessary” also. Sheesh.
I too have the Meris Mercury Seven and here's a RUclips video using it. Oh the sounds! But I'm going to get this one too.
ruclips.net/video/bSLoUKigIc4/видео.html
Will this sound good through a 65 deluxe reverb reissue? Even without an effects loop?
Reminds me of my Adineko by Catlin Bread. You should check it out. Oil can delay! Better than my vintage unit.
I have no nasty things to say, only I am going to start mixing in some fuzz to my reverbs from now on that sounds so sweet 😂
I want to buy a stereo pedal…what would be a good stereo pedal for my Slo to go in front of?
So how intentional was Terrapin used in there?
BUT IS IT LUSH
I'm trying to decide between this Slo or The Cosmonaut V2 can anyone chim in their thoughts?
Is this an updated version of the Walrus Fathom ?
No, different concept.
Your videos cost me a lot of money.
So this pedal does do 100% wet?
Love this pedal but my EMG 57 pickup cracked the input of the SLÖ . The reverb sound could be distorted when I play heavy strokes. With passive pickups, it never has any issue. Anyone has similar experience?
i didnt have that experience with it, but i tend to lean into lower output pickups these days.
Reverb is not usually the first pedal in the chain. I can be, but should normally go toward the end. The hot pickup would not matter.
Anybody having trouble with it being loud and hissing when not playing any notes
Dry signal only when you are sustaining a drone is an unfortunate limitation.
Agree, the dry sounds odd over the pad. You totally lose the feel of the musical soundscape as if some kid in guitar center just started loudly demoing an amp right next to you. Haha
Thoughts on the 50/50 being at 2 o'clock on the Mix knob?
milk bath most pedals don’t even tell you where 50/50 is. It’s a nice visual reference.
@@60CycleHumcast That is nice! I always assumed it was at 12! Do you find the wetness level after 50% hard to dial in and/or find the sweet spots?
When you can do Stranger things on guitar!
review a hollow body.......please
which one?
Maybe a Hollow Body, And Do Mods to it Like that Les Paul video
Like a Cheap One.
Johnson JH-100 WNB Hollow body. ( Amazon)
Uh oh...
Warp and sink suck so really you've only got 4 sounds left to get that beautiful ambience with ,
I'm getting the mooer r7 x2 instead
Big tooth sea dog pad machine the wash of the deep oceans of Europa
Hmmm...four separate gear review channels...and they all are reviewing the same pedal within an hour of each other...
This is making my aluminum foil hat vibrate.
Hmmm....
ravenslaves I’m sure there’s more than 4, walrus likes to do big releases.
All in the same hour???
This is madness.
...Must loosen aluminum foil hat...
ravenslaves walrus gave us a coordinated launch time. It was all planned out dude. I had my demo filmed weeks ago, I was just waiting for the go ahead.
Aha! Conspiracy confirmed!
I always wondered how you guys did these things. It makes sense. Be the first to review a product, get more views. It was just weird to see my in box with four videos in a row reviewing the same product within the same hour.
By the way, yours is the only one I watched because it was that thorough. Great review.
(I'll leave on my foil hat though...Just in case.)
ravenslaves most of the time a company will only hire a few demo channels at a time, but walrus likes to go big. At first I thought it was a bummer because it felt like I had less of a exclusive. But now I think it’s fun, it takes some of the pressure off.
nice demo! - please tune your guitar.
Some nice vibes. I can do without the wacky ones though
