- Classic scene from the 1981 Ray Harryhausen 'Clash of the Titans'.
Disclaimer: I do not own this film. It remains the property of Warner Brothers. Кино
Ray Harryhausen did a fantastic job. The man was a genius.
The lack of music adds so much tension. We already know Calibos is a bad dude, but the roaring wind makes him seem even more dangerous.
Agreed!!
Scary than remake for sure. Bro
@@doomrage2012 for sure!
@@doomrage2012 glad to see am not the only one that agrees !!
I couldn't even bear to look at his face when I saw this movie as a child. The fact that his face was always in the shadows only made it worse.
As a child, I always looked at Calibos, as the actual incarnation of the devil himself.
Pra mim ele era o próprio.
For the time this movie was made, the claymation edited in with the live action was superb. Even now, it's looks expertly done. Although I grew up watching this, I still love this movie.
My brother and I used to watch this movie when we were off sick from school. One day we watched it 3 times!! We were about 5 and 6 years old...
I hate comments like this.
As I kid this is what I've always envisioned Satan to look and sound like...
Same, I used to be terrified at this scene
Satan got similar story he got transformed into a hideous creature and became outcast
I totally agree!
It's fair to say that the more modern or historically recent image of Satan/Lucifer/the Devil as a horned demon is probably derived from Greek mythology influence. His image is basically an evil version of Pan, the god of forests and sexuality. As far as I know, the Old and New Testament don't really describe a guy with horns and hooves.
@@osenglish Me too!
That was a damn good throw of the sword at the end.
Before CGI, Ray Harryhausen was the top special effects person around. Clash of the Titans was his final film and had the largest budget of all his films, and that showed in the cast. There's something special about stop-motion effects that CGI can't replicate. Good CGI can look incredibly realistic, but it still hasn't managed to have the same charm as the Harryhausen classics.
Well said. I don't care if the special effects are so 'bad' they are comical. This is still an incredible film, and when I'm tempted to roll my eyes, I remind myself that this movie is a year older than I am!
One of the best action fantasy movies ever made. 2010 version can’t beat it in spite the modern CGI technology.
That devil dude creeped me out as a kid lol.
👹☠👺
Oh heck yeah, he's fugly 😂
I was much more traumatized by the scorpions themselves
That was a rough looking campsite, a miserable night of sleep for sure.
How can u sleep in a windy lightning storm?
I guess by being a badass warrior from Greek mythology.
Being exhausted helps.
This was a fun movie .. I saw it when it came out in theaters
is movie looks like a 90s cRPG cutscene and I love it
The one soldier fought well until Calibos trapped his feet, dirty.
Calibos is a serious asshole. He gets himself into this shit to begin with because he decides to hunt the winged horse to extinction, then out of jealousy he attacks Perseus and gets his arm chopped off, so he demands revenge against all of Joppa, and he then pulls this shit by summoning a bunch of deadly monsters and then chasing the horses away and for good measure whipping Perseus and his men from the background so the Scorpions can get at them, shanks one of them etc.
He still got killed despite having the element of surprise twice AND his opponents sparing him when they should not have.
Just realized 20 years later how out of whack the sword model in Calibos' stomach is.
Yeah, the stop-motion models are a lot bigger in relative dimension to the actor. You see this in the beginning of the movie as well: when Zeus curses him, the post-curse Calibos model is MUCH bigger than the pre-curse. I think they had intended for Calibos to dwarf Perseus, but couldn't figure out how to make it look believable in the live action shots.
@@dhunter1133 I definitely see what you're saying but I was more referring to how the grip turns into a nub.
Only two of the scorpions were killed. What about the third?
This has always bothered me about this scene. :/
I like to think Thallo used his shield to kill it or at least lost it before killing it, hence why he doesn't have his shield with him when he kills "his" Scorpion.
it went off to fight subzero
@@magnusdiridian lol 😂
It was killed by the movie's budget.
Now I'm older I notice Thallo lost his shield before finishing his Scorpion...my brain tells me he lost it to kill the other Scorpion to justify the other one just "vanishing".
He has it at 2:52, but at 2:53, you see it laying on the ground behind him. I used to think that there was a missing special effects sequence where Thallo: kills his scorpion; drops his shield to retrieve Perseus' sword and throw it to him; and before he can retrieve his shield the third scorpion attacked him; that would explain where the third scorpion went and how he dropped his shield. Right? Problem is, I now see the 2:53+ scorpion is missing his left claw, where Thallo cut it off at 2:50. So now it's just a continuity error. :(
3:16 Oh dang... he was about to level up too.
Yep. And at lower levels, the gains are huge. Thallos was going to go from Lvl 1 Fighter to Lvl 2 Fighter, so twice the hp and easily powerful enough to destroy Calibos.

Awesome movie.
Clash of the Titans 1981
Calibos is a terrible fighter. He can only do surprise attacks and from behind. Face to face, he usually loses badly. Even Thallo would have destroyed Calibos head-on, never mind Perseus with his magic sword. Plus, if Calibos pulls Perseus to him to stab him with his stupid fork, the whip is not even taught anymore then Perseus can punch him out.
Of course. He already got his ass handed to him by Perseus. He's a coward and a murderer, not a real warrior.
@@robwalsh9843 He technically got his left hand handed to him, but yes.
One of the things I always wondered was why Perseus threw his sword instead of just cutting the leather whip? I mean, if he misses, there goes your weapon. But hey, it's more dramatic.
The special effects were so bad compared to modern cinema. But I didn't care when I was 6 and saw this in the theatres. Scared the hell out of me!
Just think. If Perseus had just killed Calibos from the very beginning, those soldiers including his friend would still be alive as well.
This battle music is not even in the soundtrack!
