Don't mind if I do. Great channel thanks algorithm.
Metal Gear Solid is definitely the game that changed my life. Since it was so unique and the voice acting was superb considering the fact it was a PS1 game
Same for me. I'd never played anything like it before. I felt like I was playing a movie.
Same it thought me I didn't have to be who my family wanted me to be and that we can choose our own fate to some degree.
I think it saved my life at 9 years old
Word, metal gear was innovative. Ctr was pure fun. Medal of Honor was awesome too!
played Syphon Filter trilogy instead lol
Exactly! Superb game!
MGS was groundbreaking. I had the demo disc first and was blown away so I had to get it when it released. It was like playing a movie. Nowadays that's common place, but back then was a revelation.
I don't feel pulled in the way I did with MGS with most 'cinematic' games. MGS seemed like I was really saving the world from a nuclear global apocalypse. MGS used lots of real world terms and information along with real world locations, weapons, and military techniques that gave it a really strong feeling of authenticity, and very few moments of pure goofiness, plus the presentation was so strong it was easy to get immersed. The graphics were super realistic for the time.
The biggest game changer was the PS1 itself. It was the first generation (along with the Saturn) to transition us from 2D to 3D. Not only did it change the way how games looked forever but how they played too. The 32 bit generation was truly revolutionary and every other generation since then has merely been evolutionary.
Seriously, count yourself lucky if you was there from the transition from 16 bit to 32 bit because you'll never see a leap in tech and gameplay innovation like it ever again.
Awesome list! For me it was Twisted Metal, Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy 7, Ridge Racer, Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, Wipeout XL and Resident Evil. So many genre creating/defining games came out during the 5th generation. Its my favorite generation/console war (PS1 vs N64 vs Saturn). Watching Sony dominate and help push gaming was amazing to live thru and i look back at that time with a tear in my eye! (almost 30 years)
Oh the hit of nostalgia with this episode especially gran turismo the amount of hours/days/weeks/months I put into that game. Definitely revolutionary.
In no particular order, my 15 would be:
Resident Evil 2, Soul Reaver, Metal Gear Solid, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins, Gran Turismo, Tomb Raider 2, Driver, Spider-Man, Test Drive 4, Tekken 3, Alien: Resurrection, Dino Crisis, Die Hard Trilogy, Final Fantasy VIII, Sled Storm.
Fantastic video and for me, the games that truly cemented this console as one of the greatest are Ridge Racer, Tekken 3, Final Fantasy VII, Crash Bandicoot, Wipeout, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, Einhander and R-Type Delta. That’s my top 10, and all are as good to play today as they were back then🙌🏻
Very enjoyable walk down memory lane! Most of my fondest memories of the PS1 era were with Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy Tactics, and PaRappa the Rappa (played alongside my sister). Good times.
Ahhh PaRappa the Rappa was amazing 😂😂💪💪
Loved Die Hard Trilogy. In the first game on Level 2 (I think) there is a glitch where you can jump through a wall, and from there run around to the tank that you can see through the window. Only problem is you can’t get back and have to reset the game lol. I’ve never found anyone else that’s found this one yet🙂
Ridge Racer, Destruction Derby, Parasite Eve 2, Tenchu Stealth Assassins, Soul Reaver Legacy of Kain, Tekken 3, Resident Evil 3, Driver, Alien Trilogy and CTR are some of my favourites
That list was pretty much my childhood, but I was surprised you didn't mention Wipeout 2097. That PS1 demo disc with Gare D'Europa was legendary.
My Top 10 PS1 Games of all Time are
1. MGS1
2. RE2
3. CastleVania SOTN
4. FF7
5. FF9
6. Spyro 2 Ripto’s Rage
7. Crash Bandicoot Warped
8. Silent Hill
9. RE3 Nemesis
10. Dino Crisis 1 and 2
Games that I enjoyed too : 40 Winks, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, TOCA, Overboard, Medal of Honor, Driver, Klonoa, Driver, Skullmonkeys, Gex 3D, MediEvil, Tomba / Tombi...
Tomb Raider was the game the changed my life. I've loved the series and the character ever since. The action, adventure, suspense, exploration, danger in these ancient tomb settings was mind blowing to me. The calm serenity alone in a tomb as the beautiful soundtrack music plays. It was my first PS1 game and my first 3D game. The levels, environments and cutscenes have stuck with me all these years. As minimal as the story is, I always felt like those cutscenes were so cinematic, which at that time was unprecedented. I replay that game once a year or so.
Doom was, and still is incredible. So tense. I remember playing for hours in a dark room with the volume turned up on the TV 😁
Great video Gemma 👍
Solid choices there Gemma. Before I played the video I mentally made some of my own choices and you covered them. Although chose Resi over Resi2… but if that’s your experience then that’s fair. Enjoyed the video very much, thank you ☺️
I played Silent Hill 1 back in the day, was a game changer back then
Great video, Gemma, I remember all these! Personal favourites were MGS, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and Alien Trilogy. Completely agree about the demo discs, they were brilliant. And the Meryl code was a touch of genius back then, I was around 16 years old at the time, I recently told my kids about it and they were both baffled about no Google back then 😂😂😂
I have mgs downloaded on my ps3, it still holds up so well. Would be a good one to run through on stream. A game I never hear much about is gex. I remember saving my money to get it at toys r us. Loved that game
I am so happy to see the first Ridge Racer get some love!! I am so glad you mentioned it cause no one else does and it's truly a fantastic game and one of the ones I loved most back in the day. Still love it tons. Wish it was one the PS store. Great video!! And omg Loaded!!!! Still one of my all time favorite games ever!!! I don't know anyone else that played this outside of my brothers!! The fact that you liked this game makes you my favorite gamer youtuber!!! All your choices are fantastic!!!! This video just keeps getting better and better!!!!
This list is so good that I can't describe it in words. All my favorites are included. Alien Trilogy was my first PS1 game and it still holds the first place on PS1 fps game on my list
4:35 Playing Doom on PS1 back then was magical. I recall we had no idea how enemies spawns, and it was always getting me how Boss spawns in a boss room. And will it spawn at all lol.
Nice list! Enjoyed the little stories you told along with the gameplay.
Ff7, ff8, resident evil, wipeout 2097, castlevania symphony of the night, Ridge racer type 4, rage racer, tekken 2 are some of the ps1 games that changed my life.
I loved this video - I had a similar experience with not having my own games (or even a PlayStation) so it was always at a friend's house or similar. I love the music you use in the background too :) appreciate your work. :D
What an amazing video! I was really impressed to see my very childhood experience brought back to life in this episode, even though we're miles apart. Guess that's what Gaming is all about after all, right? 😊 I'll be sure to subscribe for more!
My top 15 would be: Syphon Filter 2, Spyro 3, Crash Bandicoot 3, MediEvil 2, MGS, In Cold Blood, Final Fantasy 8, Tekken 3, Resident Evil 2, Crash Bash, Spiderman, Tomb Raider 4, Demolition Racer, Medal of Honor, Hogs of War.
Honorable mentions: Fighting Force, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Worms Armageddon, Dracula (point and click adventure), Bugs Bunny and Taz: Lost in Time, Tomba!, SmackDown2, Star Trek Invasion.
I loved most games from euro demo discs from their short demos or trailers.
I had to sell some of them to buy some ps2 games.
I will never forget seeing Die Hard on my mates PlayStation. That shooting scene in the airport was incredible 👏 ❤
👏👏👏
Hey Gemma. Good video which brought back great memories. For me it was Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer Revolution and Destruction Derby on demo disk too. 👊
I remember playing Porsche Challenge with the new analog controller. It took the game to a whole new level. So much fun, challenging and hard to master. My favorite racing game after Ridge Racer.
Good list. My list would include a lot of your choices. I would add Exhumed (Powerslave), Driver, Wipeout 2097, Medievil, Star Wars - Dark Forces, Oddworld - Abe's Oddysee, Legacy of Kain - Soul Reaver, Medal of Honor - Underground and my favourite Final Fantasy game of all time, FF9.
I did not have PS1 as a child, I had N64, but from playing PS1 at my friends house a hand full of times, the games that really left a strong impression on me forever were: Tomb raider, twisted metal 2, and tekken 3. I used to get scared while playing tomb raider. As an Adult, I've got a nice little collection for PS1 now and I like your list!
I'd totally forgot about the music on Ridge Racer, that really took me back. Fantastic video again. Love it.
Can't argue with any of your choices either, and loved the story about the Alien game and Woolworths.
Takken 3, Metal Gear Solid, FF7, Gran Turismo was life changing to me, nothing like it was on other consoles at the time. In late 90's i went to buy a Genesis and came back home with a PS1+Tekken 3 bundle, was blown away with the graphics, gameplay, crazy endings????...
Tenchu, bushido blade, MGS, resistant evil, tekken, Dino crisis, command and conquer, gta just some of the games I remember playing the hell out of
I have a very personal curiosity, I got to know many of the ps1 games for the first time weirdly through the third releases of some franchises. Tomb Raider 3, 3Xtreme, Need For Speed 3 Hot Pursuit, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3.
Nice content Gemma ❤ cheers
Back in the day I bought a used playstation system from a friend at work for $75. He gave me some games to go with it. Metal gear solid, Resident Evil: Direrctor's Cut(with the live action intro running to the mansion), and Resident Evil 2. Looking back that was the best $75 I ever spent in my entire life.
That was a steal for that price 😂 definitely a great deal
Very nice list :) Gran Turismo was the first game I bought for PS1, from the same shop I bought the console, and indeed it was very impressive in every way. Before PS1 I had the Amiga 500, so it certainly was big jump ahead in graphics and sounds, playbility, etc. Not to take anything away from Amiga, it's awesome system as well, but of course Playstation took gaming in the next level.
Ridge Racer, bought myself the Type 4, another very impressive game, fun arcade style racing game with awesome graphics and music.
I have the Demolition Derby game as a digital download for Playstation 3, fun game as well.
I still have the Official Playstation magazines with demo discs I bought around 1999-2000. Still fun to read the magazines, sometimes watch the demo videos, and play the playable demos, If I recall correctly, in some demo disc there was race track of Gran Turismo 2 that wasn't included in the final game, can't remember if it was a video or playable demo.
I've owned 12 of the 15 games here and all of them are amazing. The PS1 is my favourite console of all time. Cracking video Gemma. Proper retro gaming nostalgia
Wonderful video, Gemma!!! I have owned and still have some of those games... Timeless stuff!!!! 🤘❤
Metal Gear Solid
Tekken 3
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Omega Boost
Twisted Metal 4
Suikoden 1
Suikoden 2
Bloody Roar 2
Gundam Battle Assault 2
Tomb Raider 2
Destruction Derby 2
Battletanx Global Assault
Eliminator
Tiny Tank
Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
These are the 15 PS1 games that made my childhood fun.
Killer list 😂 Tons of fun for sure !
Ridge Racer also allowed you to put in a music CD after the game was loaded and listed to your music while you raced. Maybe a glitch but a good glitch!
Ridge Racer R4, Spyro 2, 3, Final Fantasy 7, Megaman Legends, Monster Rancher 2, Chocobo Racing, MGS
Only just discovered your channel, I love it. Love most of these games. I have never come first in Porsche Challenge though.
This comment warms my soul. Thank you 😊
I remember as a kid in the first level of Tomb Raider 1 I couldnt bring myself to shoot the bat because I thought they were cute.
Also doing headdives from high places only to miss the water was a common way for me to get a gameover. I remember even playing it without a memory card.
Doom for the ps1 just has the best atmosphere out of all the versions the music is incredible
I remember I was at university when it came out so I’d sit with my friends all huddled around a 14 inch crt with the lights off and volume up
Great times
PS1 and 2 are my fave consoles, recently rediscovered them through retroarch.
All the jungle and D&B music in the early N64/PS2 days highly influenced what my favorite music is today.
The jump from 2D snes to 3D ps1 was a very surreal experience. Virtual Reality has a similar feeling rn any of u gamers who want to experience that same jump into a new gaming feeling thats back to arcade gameplay focus as well as alot of single player games
Great vid! Nice to see Loaded on here, though I have more nostalgia for the sequel Reloaded!
Pretty fun video Gemma. I love my PS games too. My 2 brothers and I had in 1998: Tekken 3, Gran Turismo, Tomb Raider 3 and Tenchu:Stealth Assassins. I started then to buy more games and became besides a gamer also a collector.
Great vid.
For me I'd have to go: RRR, R-Type Delta, Wipeout 3, Driver, Loaded, Time Crisis, Warhawk, C&C, Abe's Odyssey, FFVII, Micro Machines V3, Tomb Raider 2, Thunderhawk 2, MK3, Resident Evil, Tenchu. 🤔 Could go on and on I suppose! 😂
My list is Gran Turismo 2 (US version), Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VIII, The Legend of Dragoon, Silent Hill, Resident Evil 2, Wipeout 3 (made by good ol Psygnosis in Liverpool), and Parasite Eve. Storytelling in late 90s PlayStation games was something special which improved in the following generation. Thank you for making the video. :)
That version of Doom and the Aubrey Hodges soundtrack made the game creepier than the original PC version!
Grandia 1&Breath of Fire 3 shaped my childhood nicely.
Im still convinced that MGS1 on ps1 is one of the finest game ever made. I cant think of another PS1 game that had such an immersive story/experience. Other mgs games have been good but nothing has ever topped this.
Ah the old days. The puzzles in silent hill. No internet, just a corner store id buy beer from and low and behold they had a magazine section and that had a game mag and in that mag was all sorts of help for silent hill. Now i find myself ocd if i play a game knowing i can just go online and find everything.
Metal Gear Solid to me is still my personal favorite. The voice acting changed the game and the action sequences was through the roof at the time. Crash Bandicoot was my childhood favorite. At that time it became the unofficial mascot of the PS1. Love all three Crash games and especially CTR: Crash Team Racing. CTR was the great alternative for Mario Kart back then. When I heard that 3 original Crash games was getting a remaster in 2016 & it came out the following year, I was excited. Then 2 years later in 2019, CTR: Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled came out, and I loved it.
Loaded is completely underrated. I had it on the Saturn (When Saturn and it's games were being given away for pennies on the dollar) and it was so much fun. My Saturn Collection of 91 games I sold for $300 as a teen on Craigslist is worth probably around $5,000 + Today considering they were all CIB. GREAT Video! New Subscriber!
What a nice video. I missed the PS1 gen of games I went from SNES to PS3 due to life and all that. It's always nice to see what I missed.
PS: I gave you a shout out on my Twitter so hopefully bring you some more views!
Nice list and I agree with the whole Aliens movie thing. I can’t not watch that movie when it’s on. There are 2 games I would would add that changed everything for me...Tony Hawk’s pro skater and Medal of Honor. The days I spent with those 2 games and shared with friends were insane!!!
Awesome stuff! :) I loved the PSX, I pre-ordered it at the store I worked at (Babbage's in NY), and had it opened and I was playing Ridge Racer by lunchtime in the back room, while on break. It was a revolutionary moment to be playing this on a home console. It wasn't arcade perfect, but it sure felt close enough to blow you damn mind! I also enjoyed ESPN Extreme Games and Air Combat at that time. I modded mine early on to play "HK silvers" ;) but I always made sure to buy every game I actually enjoyed, using that little ability as a "try before you buy" situation.
Ridge Racer was a phenomenal game on PS1.
Truly groundbreaking
Looks like i got a couple games to play now! Great video ❤
RAGE RACER(the 3rd Ridge Racer game was the best). Metal Gear Solid. Tomb Raider II. Final Fantasy EIGHT(not 7). Legend of Dragoon. SmackDown 2: Know Your Role. TEKKEN 2. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Duke Nukem 3D. Resident Evil 2. And many many more. PS1 probably is STILL the best Playstation.
That iconic Capcom sound still gives me chills street fight er 2
Thank you for great trip down memory lane, bought my ps1 aged 46!,and me and wifey hooked badly! Bought all the demos and mags, averaged 5 hours a day or night playing, depending on my shift work, wore out my ps1,got another, plus ps2 and 3; and 2 psps, still playing but on xbox1x now, aged 73,love gaming still, regards.
great list and very nostalgic. I relate to a lot of your stories. Funny enough though, as much as I have fond memories of most of these games, It's really hard for me to revisit my PS collection. Those early 3d games did not age well visually or technically. I can play my Genesis/MegaDrive or SNES games with no issues since 2d sprites seem to be timeless.......but going back to those early 3d games is tough. I am more than okay seeing them on my shelf and just reminiscing.
Great journey to some good old games. Thx for sharing your memories 😊
Great list, love your videos, I remember a game with great fondness, Small Soldiers.
RE1 i love horror movies, but a game, being able to experience the horrow for yourself was another level.
You nailed this list 👌
My favorite would have to be metal gear solid. I was only able to rent it but it's one of the few games my stepfather was into, and we had an amazing first night playing it together. It was like a movie, we were totally immersed. Sneaking by surveillance cameras, calling everyone on the codec, blowing up walls with c4, it was unlike anything we had ever played. What a great time for gaming it was when the Playstation hit the scene.
High five on getting copied discs back in the day, I did the same and managed to see the code on a screenshot in an imported PSM magazine or something I got from the newsagents haha, great times! Also, 100% with you about Gran Turismo being like 4k, it was mindblowing!
Yesss demo discs were so awesome. They tied me over until my next purchase back in the late 90s. Lucky to still have my original copies. Some that stand out are little big adventure, speedster was awesome loved the top down view. Felony 9-11, overboard, rage racer And Rosco McQueen I strangely loved that game. And the trippy game selection menus were awesome.
Love your enthusiasm and the fact that you gave us a personal list, not just a generic best of. But given everything you’ve said, I’m surprised at the lack of a THPS game.
Thumbs up Gemma some good memories here ridge Racer was my first ps game as well I've still got my original copy of ps doom in the double case box those thick case's thay used do
Hi Gebs, give Project Overkill a try if you feel like. Right in the same vein as Loaded which I haven’t played in a while. Thanks for the cool vid. Gonna dig out my copy and play thanks to this nostalgia 🎉
PS1 DOOM was one of the most intense gaming experiences i EVERhad back when I was 13-14. Also remember seeing PC DOOM in Tandy before playing the PS1 version and that 60fps smoothness made a big time impression.
Fantastic video. I was... 11? When I was gifted my PS1... and there are so many made memories on this console. I subscribed, happy gaming.
The T rex charging in the first tomb raider made me think wow and then I died.
Mine was a more expletive-laden reaction.
I remember the T-Rex on Demo 1 too
Gran Turismo was one of the first PS1 games I got. When I was 6 years old, I was playing this game with a broken wrist. Crash Bandicoot 1 and 2, and Tekken 3 especially stayed in my PS1 also. Still have Crash 1, Tekken 3 and repurchased Gran Turismo.
Metal Gear Solid is definitely my favorite ps1...well quite possibly my favorite game of all time...I thought I was the only one that loved Casper, I always said that game just hits me with me so much nostalgia. I loved that game!
Auto Destruct and Crime Killer are hidden gems
Def have a few titles in common with your list as im sure many others do.. I would add skeleton warriors, syphon filter, duke nukem, and parasit eve. skelton warriors was the first game i bought with my own money, i was young but got it second hand at a flea market with dad for like 5 bucks long box and still have it, while i never got far i played the hell out of it. Re, metal gear and gran turismo def at the top of my list. always used to max tune the dodge viper and smoke everyone, was a monster and took a while to get the handling down as the back end always broke free but once you got it down nothing could touch you on a staightaway so losing corning time wasnt a big deal. getting side tracked but nice list. brings back some memories.
The music in that PS1 version of Doom is great, I've never played it but in your video it sounds pretty epic, I'll have to play it!
Cool Boarders 2! I thought I was the only one that remembered it. Great video Gebs :)
A friend and I played Legend of Dragoon for about 5 months before we could get a memory card. Before we could finish the story he passed away in middle school. I'll be starting a new game for the first time since then, so here's to you bro.
I'm surprised that Wipeout didn't made it onto your list. I love listening to you reminiscing about your days as a kid
Nice list :) I got my PS1 the day it came out and all my game store had left was loaded. I had to have a game so I bought it. Played the HECK out of it. People don’t remember that the first months were pretty dry for the PlayStation. I wanted Wipeout! Had to waits months for it.
Love this kind of video Gemma!
Nearly spat out my drink at 3:21 hahaha
What a list!!! I remember playing sega rally as kid at a friend's house (massive rally fan) so asked for a sega Saturn for Christmas.
So I've never miss judged a gift as much had a playstation one with Porsche challenge and I was like wow..............that Christmas the realism (in my head) was so intense I may has well have had a boxter outside.
Now I cannot for the life of me remember if it was 2 games I had second being oddworld or 3 but if so I cannot think what the other would have been.
The demo discs provided a ton of content (until erm.........I man popped a chip in 🙈🙈)
Great nostalgic list there Gem!
Had Dino Crisis 1 or 2 been included it would've been gaming nirvana 👍
MGS, GT, FF8, Time Crisis, Tekken 3, Music 2000, Silent Hill, THPS, Driver, Destruction Derby 2, Thrasher: skate and destroy
The PS1 is my favourite console of all time. It was the first console I got that was truly all mine. If one game changed my life it was Final Fantasy VII. It was the first game that made me realize that games could tell a grand story. Everything I had played before had more roots in arcades, which was great but FF7 was more like a book that you experienced and were transported into. I was fairly young at the time and wasnt much of a reader but FF7 was the longest written narrative of any medium that i had ever finished at the time. After which reading was no longer a barrier for me. I have since gone on to write for publications semi-professionally later in life.
the adaptation of Doom on PS1 was amazing, I wanna play again and get the ISO file
The PS1 games that changed my life was Tekken 2 and 3, Resident Evil 2, Metal Gear Solid, and Silent Hill.
I remember the days of renting video games from blockbuster video. The good old days when you could try before you buy or simply play games even when being on a low budget.
Great video, absolutely love the PS1, such nostalgia! Glad I wasn't the only one who felt sick playing Alien Trilogy - literally used to stick my head out my bedroom window to stop the impending vomit fest (this and Spyro The Dragon - have no problems now though) 😅
Need me some Loaded - didn't review well back in the day and has always put me off a bit, unfairly it looks like!
For my list would include Bust A Move 2, Smash Court Tennis and Dancing Stage as played the hell out of these with my best mate, as well as Grand Theft Auto, Theme Hospital and MUSIC.
More lists like this please, enjoyed it! 👍
