- (Note: Before we start, I want to apologize for the annoying audio clipping present for a good majority of the video; I went a little too high on the capture volume and didn't realize until I recorded a substantial amount of the video. Sorry)
A FAMOUS TRIO OF SWISS HORNBLOWERS...wait, what?
You may or may not remember that I did a video of the original Macintosh version of Kid Pix, but here's a variant that you might be more familiar with if you were born in 1993 or later. This is Kid Pix Studio, an extended version of the original game. In short terms, it's basically the original with five new creative activities thrown in. None of them are especially better than the painting one which is the star of the show, but it's still neat that they chose to do a true successor like this.
There wasn't anything in particular that inspired me to make this video; I guess since I had a rare successful attempt at getting my old 486 to actually boot, I figured I'd do one of the few games that works best on this particular machine. This game bases the timing of quite a few of the animations on the processor clock speed so even though this computer has a really weak video card, it still was the only one that could run this game without having the animations move lightning quick.
I go through each of the activities included on the disc, starting with the flagship activity and working my way counter-clockwise on the main menu. Activity comments, one by one...
Painting: Basically what you expect, but now with a few new features that weren't present in the original such as adding backgrounds. Unfortunately I didn't have a microphone attached to this computer so I couldn't do the voice cameo like I did last time.
Wacky TV: Okay, what in the world is with some of the videos they supply? "Wacky" might not even be enough to describe them. This is a pretty standard AVI player that lets you toy with the videos, most amusingly playing them in reverse and in double-speed.
Moopies: Probably the other most enjoyable part of this pack, this gives you brushes that animate after you draw. Funnily enough, I think this computer would have absolutely been brought to its knees from this activity had it not been for the fact that it appears to do all the animation using palette cycling. That's a pretty genius way to save on resources.
Stampimator: ...eh. It exists I suppose. It's fun to play with for a little bit but wears its novelty off pretty fast.
Digital Puppets: Again, since I can't record my voice on this computer, I couldn't show too much of this off, so I tried to compensate by showing every puppet and every action you can perform with them. Can't really think of a whole lot of creative potential with this tool to be honest.
Slide Show: A place where you can show off all the amazing things you've drawn. Well, that's a bit difficult to do considering I haven't drawn a whole lot on here. However, since this computer does still have the default desktop backgrounds, and since some of them are full-res bitmaps, I at least had things I could stick in. Oh, and don't forget two pictures of Trans Ams. What, you don't have Trans Am pictures saved on your computer?
(Okay, funny story about that actually -- the reason those are on this computer is because my dad actually used to own one. He is by and large a huge car person, a gene which I didn't inherit. That said, when we moved houses in the late 90s, we downgraded from a 3-car to a 2-car garage; with my mom also already owning a car plus my dad owning a more practical family car, one of his two had to go, and so he had to sell off the Trans Am; he did so online, back before the majority of the world was off dialup, and as such that was a pretty big deal. He had no scanner or a digital camera, so the best he could do was pull some random pictures off the Internet and say that his car looked like the picture. The pictures still remain on the computer's hard drive to this day!)
Hope you enjoy the video! It definitely feels quite nice to give my childhood computer a little more time in the spotlight!

Also it's weird how many people looked up this game the same time I did guess we're all trying to relieve nostalgia
Same just randomly thought of it from seeing Putt putt and The Magic school bus games.
Me too
is there a way to be able to use kidpix on a laptop?
@@banderas2000that would be fire 🔥
@@anayasalvador9976 I really want to have this program again. It should have been preserved for future generations.
My days in the computer lab in 1st grade
This was my exact memory of this game as well.
Mrs. Ryles' First Grade class at Keller-Harvel Elementary School in 2001
Facts 😤
Same
Those were the days!!
Omg you and me both bruh the sound effects 😭
Kids these days will never know how much fun we had using Kid Pix.
Louis Eugenio Jr. that and scratch.
i agree i loved using kid pix at highland elementy school
I’m 16 but I
Remember this so much I wish it was still popular
When we weren’t dying of dysentery after exterminating the bison population, or trying to solve math problems before the Troggles ate us.
This is old, but we can introduce kid pix to kids!
This game continues to stick in my mind, I keep using paint buckets in Adobe Animate or Photoshop and expecting a sploosh sound.
The sound effects of kid pix 😊 alongside with LEGO Star Wars death sounds and the Sky Burger theme song is the sounds of my childhood
POV: you’re in second grade, and you got to the computer lab to practice your math. You’re the first one to finish your fast math lesson, and instead of playing fast math games, you close fast math and open up kid pix. You may not have much creativity, but you sure do let your imagination run wild. You turn up your volume to annoy the teachers and to flex on the other kids who haven’t finished their lesson yet. It’s fun hour in the computer lab before the teachers call out for everyone to log out and turn off the computers.
The day's lessons have finished early or it's nearly school holidays, so the teachers give everyone "free time" for the rest of the day.
Some people go outside. Others rush to the computers so that they can play zoombinis, kidpix or magic schoolbus...
POV: You randomly answer math questions, some right by accident but mostly wrong, don't really care because as long as don't finish too quickly, it looks like you were, you look around realize that a couple of kids have finished, you're in the clear, you breeze through the remainder of the questions and head to kid pix
Or after homework, you continue to play Kid Pix until bed time

I'm screaming, I've been trying to remember this for years and finally found it! The yellow diamond face! Ugh soo nostalgic 😫
I remember using the eraser all the time and being greeted by that diamond faced man going EURRRR WOW
My dad bought me this game. Loved spending hours just clicking around
I love it!! My brother and I grew up playing this game.
This takes me back to kindergarten. Ah yes when the frontal cortex of my brain wasn't developed those were the days.
love u winnie
love u winnie
love u winnie
I remember Kid Pix from my early school years in the computer lab. Seeing it again after all these years has made me nostalgic.
Dad: Are ya winning son?
I have tears in my eyes.. thank you. 😂
*fills up entire screen with random things*
I spent so many creative hours playing in this as a kid! Now, my nieces are playing around in Kid Pix and having a blast.
Omg this brings back so many memories of playing on my windows 2000 desktop. This and that Barbie Makeover game, the Lizzie McGuire happy meal CD games, dogz and catz, browsing countless sailor moon sites 😭
Thanks.THANKSSSSS. This is literally my whole childhood. i'm crying.
when you played the sounds - they came right back!!!!
I love it when he changed the language to Spanish. When he used the count down to clear the screen I laughed after zero when it said “Eh?!” 😂
@@kroakie4I learned the Spanish alphabet from this program. I used to click on the Spanish question mark over and over. Eh? Eh? Eh? 😂
I could play this game for hours at a time as a young kid. As an adult I still find it very cool.
Kid Pix Studio was awesome. I miss it so much. 😢
Me too!
Every inch of my sensory memory just did a cartwheel and I had a LOST-style flashback
Oh man, the SOUNDS. I loved exploring the hundreds of effects in this game. This is a joy only millennials remember.
The sounds bring me back it’s amazing
@@laurashepherd7683 Oops!
Oh No!
Uh-Oh!
YIKES!!!!
im gen z
I’m having major flashbacks to my childhood!! I used to play for hours on this thing!
This was my childhood, right here. 😊
Same 😁
Finally, this is that art game where you can make the explosion that erases the picture, I definitely remember this now!
After 9/11, the teachers would ban anyone who used the dynamite
Not me crying lmfao, it was a simpler time. The rainbow dots and lines just 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Oh my God! I came here from Tik Tok where a girl was trying to describe it, and I looked in the comments for the name 'cause it sounded familiar. All the sounds, the colors, the different games, I remember it all.
That desktop and this game are a sight for sore eyes. I also really love the sound effects in this game. Overall this is extremely nostalgic and a great demonstration of the game.
I would love this made for iPad.
Oh my god!!!! this was my life in elementary school....
After many years of searching I finally found this. Brings me back memories with the old Mac we used to have :(
The first version of Kid Pix I used was Kid Pix 2 for Windows. I still have the original disks, but sadly, one or two of them are beginning to fail. Thankfully, I still have the computer it was originally installed on, so all is not lost.
Anyway, when we got our second computer, we tried to install Kid Pix 2, but one of the disks was already failing by then. My dad surprised me by buying a copy of Kid Pix Studio Deluxe for either Christmas or my birthday. I never used the original Kid Pix Studio, so it's interesting to see (and hear) some of the differences.
Thank you for making this. You are giving me the most nostalgic trip I’ve ever had
i've spent so long trying to find this game along with baileys bookhouse and sammy's science house etc.. im 15 now and played all of these in like 2nd grade. kinda crazy that i was playing games made in the 80's in the early 2010's LOL
Damn...this just transported me into the early 90's
I find it scary that I just installed this yesterday out of nowhere and now I'm not the only one in 2020 using this lol
how did u install it
Clover A Possum I tried downloading it and installing. It won’t run on Windows 10 as they said in the comments. I want this game badly as I loved it so much as a kid.
Try compatibility mode!!(will try!
@@LeoneLaTwerk2 nice suit 👍
@@liamwatson5125 i use XP myself but I know some use compatibility mode in 10,
If that doesn't work and you can't find a video to help you could try the other versions of Kid Pix, like 4 or deluxe
So nice to see this old game again, I adored those sounds as a kid
This brings me back. Thank you for posting this video.
Holy shi this brought back some insanely deep memories I didn’t know I had. Thank you for this😭
This whole thing was a completely lost memory until ten minutes ago. I barely recognize it by the stamp, mixer, and truck icons in the UI, and that square rainbow brush that sounds like a rake in gravel I somehow know I used the most. Not sure how old I was or what grade I was in when I played around in Kid Pix. It's so faded I'm not sure how good or bad a memory it should be either. I just remember the program itself, nothing about what it was to me.
Thanks for this. And whatever sense it does or doesn't make to anyone who'll read this, I have to thank Gura, who unearthed a relic of my childhood I never would've rediscovered had she not flippantly struck it.
The sounds brought back so many memories. I invested hours on this. The Jackalope video was my favourite on Wacky TV... lol
I remember playing this when I was little I couldn't find anything of it, thank you so much for this video!! 😊
Go to computer lab, turn up volume and spam the dynamite. Funniest memory I have using this
I loved all the eraser animations in this game!
I miss this so much
Thank you for this video! Really enjoying all the memories! 😭😁😄
Dammmn those were the days.
Thank you for these childhood noises! Forgot about them!! ❤
Holy heck this is unlocking memories I didn't even know I had!
The sounds opened up my childhood memories so clearly !!!!
Nostalgic tears running down my face right now lol
I loved playing Kid Pix Studios when I was a kid and I love the graphics of Art. Kids these days could learn what art is really like rather than playing fortnite everyday as it teaches nothing. I first played it when I was eight and I can play it again right now. This was the best nostalgia.
The sounds throw me back so much omg
I can't believe I listened to the whole thing, what memories~
The way i was swinging my feet back and forth while watching this and listening to the sounds like when I was a kid..my little 6 year old heart is back-
My parents kept this old first iMac apple computer and one day I bring it up from down stairs in our garage and plugged it in and turned it one and this was one of the games on it. Since we didn't have any internet I would play on this app for days on end and enjoy all the different sounds and options.
This brings back sooooooooo many memories
i randomly remembered using this as a kid and just had to revisit it
Wow this brings back a lot of memories.
Ah man the computer lab days back in grade school. Late 90s. So many memories unlocked
I found my childhood.
This was the first ever game I played as a kid on a pc. I think even video game in general. Clearly remember going to library playing it
If I remember correctly, I played this game is kindergarten but I can barely remember anything 🥺
When I was like 4-6 years old I remember being in the computer room in my Pirimary School and painting the multicoloured paint brush across the screen. For I could not remember what the software looked like or if I had even just dreamt the whole experience up but boy am I glad I found this video so I can continue into adulthood more peacefully knowing it was a real memory I had and not a made up one 😄
11:54 sounds like the fox and the hound music were the cadapiller turns into a butterfly
I was too young to be using this program, idk what my mom was thinking but I remember playing for what felt like hours with my page a complete sh*t hole and not knowing how to fix it, and keep piling rainbows on top of everything. Didn't know what the hell I was doing, especially in that TV place, and the Egyptian. Way too confusing
i miss kid pix
We used to have this at our daycare. I miss it a lot because you cant even play it on Windows 10 but you could on a previous version.
The highest quality computer application of my childhood
Used this shit in 2003. Crazy how far tech has come
I played this in the computer lab as well anyone else remember the game with this green little monster character all I remember is he had a little yellow horn on his head
gonna put my kids onto all this i played as a kid. bugdom, nanosaur, all that stuff.
Ahh. The memories...
HOLY SHIT THE HOURS I SPENT ON THIS THING BACK IN THE DAY..... EASIER TIMES
Zoomers: what games did you guys play back in the day?
Me:
Now I remember what I used the computer for before I had internet. It was either this, or JumpStart games, or Harry Potter games my parents bought me.
The nostalgia 😭
Que lindo recuerdo de mi infancia 🥰!!! Thank you for the video!!! 😃😃😃
Yes. I learned the Spanish alphabet from this program.
Dredging up things from the dark crevices of memory..
I used to play this game as a kid, but I never tried out "Hidden Pictures" or the "Mystery" icon in the Eraser category... not to mention, for "Stampimator," my mom used "Toonies 2," with the stamp of the child on the tricycle, to imitate a roller coaster, but couldn't have any rotation happen.
Omg 😍😍😍😍 god this brings back memories))
this is exactly how i used to play on kid pix
I miss playing that game.
Ahhhh that nostalgia Feeling 😊
*NOSTALGIA OVERLOAD!* 😭
To this day, I’ve always wondered who the girl in portrait is in the “Kid Pix” menu icon.
Computer lab with all the multi colored iMacs.. heaven to a 2nd grader
I had a insane dream about this as a kid idk why I spent more time on kid pix studio 😂❤
I’m a…
“Dizzy daisy, getting lazy”
“With a thousand toes and a pickle on my nose”
And
“I live in my bathtub!”
Draw me
25 years and those things are still in my brain
We would rush to get on a computer to play this at school, I remember playing in art class
Yooooooo nostalgia like a Mf!!!!! I miss my childhood man! Paint a picture!!!!!
Fuck ,this takes me back to kindergarten back in '94
can we bring back KidPixx 😍
Elementary school computer lab memories
Wish I could go back.
I remember using this in the early 90s. One tone my teacher was behind me and I began drawing F-U- and busted. ...straight to the principal.
Lol @14:46! The angry “T” 😆
It was my favourite.
I Remember Seeing One Of My Classmate Playing This Game When I Was In 2nd Grade
i remember playing this when my grandparents worked for the milton hershey school when I was four or five and today I'm 24
wow so nostalgic
My favorite was the uh oh and the bomb!!
My *CHILDHOOD!* 😭
The nostalgia
