This is my calling. I am a 35yr old carpenter. Wish i would have followed this dream when i was a young man. Follow your dreams young people.
Thanks for this
I wanted to follow my dreams...but I was too fukin stupid to do math😂
You're not old, there are volunteer situations where you could help
You can still serve the Coast guard in the Coast guard auxiliary.
If you want to do this kind of work reach out to your local fire department or rescue services and see about enlisting/volunteering. Most areas always need rescue hikers/search party members and so on. Once you've got experience doing that stuff you could potentially move up to a rescue chopper with a few simple medical classes under your belt, many of which can be taken on weekends or in the evenings. Never give up, Im about the same age and only just started working towards my own goals.
A torn ARTERY is a medical emergency! These guys are heroes! Their orange suits are SUPERMAN outfits! 💕 Much respect👍🏽
Mad respect to the crew on the boat as well for doing the best they could without training or proper medical equipment. They truly saved his life. Kinda scary that something as small and simple as a fishing hook can potentially kill you within just 2 or 3 minutes.
I agree I got in a debate with a florida guy. The florida guys are downers. But yet to see an alaska episode where they have doubted there ability or chances of rescues.

Huge #3 halibut hooks are big strong with a big sharpened barb and if the ground line was still attach can pull you overboard in a hurry or as it seems in this case the pressure ripped it right out.
When you are dealing with thousands of hooks flying over the stern very rapidly they will grab anything that those hooks can.
I watched these 2 years ago, but I still watched these again. I wish we could get some new shower. I totally respect all that the Coast Guards do
Thanks for your services.

"See the guy in the baked potato suit?" I Lol'd
Awesome rescue with the torn artery from a fish hook, but I wish some of the Rescue swimmers would further their training to administer IVs and pain meds. It seems once in a while there is a Corpsman on the flight, who has training with more advanced life support. This man could have used a few wide open IVs to keep him from going into shock. Very serious condition he was in. They are Heros, the Coastguard. Every day available to rescue anyone in danger.
thats what heroes look like. Thank You Ladies and Gentlemen of the USCG not only for what you do but who you are!
Too all first responders!!! THANK YOU , your all real life angels !!! You deserve more money
It's kind of hard to grasp that these Coast Guard guys literally do a job that can threaten their
own lives on a daily basis... that takes a certain kind of special individuals willing to do that
for other people! To say I have great respect for them doesn't come close to explaining
how much. These are truly real life heroes!
I spent 2 years in Sitka Alaska assigned to coast guard cutter Woodrush. Worked closely and did a lot of training with the flight crews. Great times, great memories.
God bless you, not all angels have wings😇
What was your rate?
@@jahkaid202 I was assigned to deck, but didn’t have a Rate just yet. The Woodrush was my first unit coming out of boot camp. Arrived there as a SA, l made SN, then shortly after I was transferred to a small boat station in Rio Vista, CA.
These men and women are why so many people get to go home to their families.
This show is Soo awesome I'm hooked very entertaining 😁
Been watching you all for a while, enjoy landfall I haven’t seen since 11/1983. You all are doing a fantastic job in dicult times, great team work!
The intro always gets me! He says "beauty cloaked with danger" shouldnt it be danger cloaked by beauty?? Just sayin..
i know i keep saying that too
Yessss. I think this every time!!!
Yes i totally agree
Yeah i agree
Most producers on these shows are from the uk and there English is slightly different than ours.
Corpsman looks like generic brand Ben Shapiro
Exactly my thoughts!!! even called my bro in and said "Hey, I found Ben Shapiro's coast guard cousin!" XD
Love the video from the C-130.
Always wondered why the video from any of the -130’s is b/w while the ones from the -60’s are color🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
That guy who got a fish hook in his arm. Kudos Coast Guard
Only thing I’ve wondered about some of these rescues is how do these people get back to where they were??
By plane or boat- only ways to get around Southeast Alaska.
I love that the bride's dog gave her away !
God bless them all. Hero's.
That Herring fishery is an experience of a lifetime. I spent a month in Kodiak fishing herring in 2003. Sooooo much fun.
A month here in Alaska? Howabout I’ve spent forty years up here, including Kodiak? Hilarious!😳🤪🤣
@@troyottosen8722 i'd live there in a heartbeat but a south american wife at that latitude is a recipe for disaster. When society collapses we'll be headed your way though!!
@@ResearchNational Another example why I have been single and enjoyed Alaska the past 40 years!😉🤣👍
Alaska, no place even compares! Simple!
The fisheries Dept. shotgun start creates chaos and danger!
I wish I wasted a young person again. I loved nursing and I loved my late husband of 26 years together. I miss him so.
"he ripped his vanes out" that's gonna be in ma dreams now😭
Thank you Coast Guard & other military branches. I love you all ❤️
"You guys see that guy in the "baked potato suit" ?".
Can you imagine living in a place where the nearest emergency help is an hour away? That's a long time when you are in pain!
They are tough pioneer stock
C130 is really a herculean aircraft. Whoever designed this aircraft back in 70s, was really ahead of its time. Despite many military transport aircrafts available in the world, my country's military still sticks to the c130 (latest variant)
Great video! Great work. Just wondering why the '60' has never had optics added to the under side so pilot can see the tail, see his landing gear, see the swimmer on the hoist. Marine variant to the CV-22 has good optics underneath, able to pivot.
I’ve used duct tape for a lot of things-including a quick repair on my horse’s hoof, but never on a human wound. Good tip USCG!!!
God bless the Coast Guard and this marriage.
great job guys
The young lady talking about her father near the end has a very interesting accent, one I've never heard before.
Australian. Not strong but definitely some words come through without a doubt.
Incredible piloting skills!
Just throwing a question out; I wonder what kind of survival training the camera/production crew has to have for this?
I’ve noticed some bloopers concerning rank in some of the episodes, this one included..I’ve seen some third class Petty officers being referred to as 1st class PO’s and I’ve seen a few officers being given promotions so to speak..sheesh they’re right there🤷♂️🤦♂️
You guys really are the best out there good stuff
That young corpsman looks like Ben Shapiro's. Lmao great job guys and gals.
Would love to find the sound track on this series👍👍
American Hustle
Congaullations to the newlyweds💍👰🤵💏! That is so awesome! May Gob bless you in your life together! I really enjoyed this video! I was a spectacular one☝🏻👍🏻👍🏻💯💯😉❤️😊
Before seeing. I'm assuming commercial fisherman. The fishing line tournaquite should be effective. But then thickness is not an issue asking as it cuts off circulation. More important should be the risk of the line acting more of a knife and cutting the skin than not cutting off circulation
What does it cost for a Coast Guard Helicopter to come and get someone? I bet it's not cheap but better than losing your life!
As per federal regulations Coast Guard does not charge if it is determined that you are in distress. Only charge would be clerical ones.
Pretty much free barring a hoax, if you call them out with the intent of wasting their time at best you're likely to pay restitution of fuel etc. Beyond that if you genuinely need them, it is pretty much free. You dont pay for the fuel or expertise. There is a reason for that which is they do not want people too worried about the money to make the call. If you're sailboat is taking on water and you decide to risk making a dash to shore over calling for help type of thing. Dont get me wrong it costs money, but it is covered by the tax payers, not the people rescued. In fact i remember a story but not clear enough to give a lot of details, but i digress, a sailboat in the Atlantic that needed rescue after some British sailors attempted to sail through, i wanna say Super Storm Sandy. Sure enough it didnt go well and generally even when you make a stupid choice they still dont charge for the same reason mentioned before. If you need help they want you to call without reservation or fear of crippling debt.
how fast does the hoist go up and down compared to like a wench on a jeep ?
300-500ish ft/min depending on the model.
7:39, he seems he's going to get annoyed if got asked to do more work.
He probably was concerned the rescue would be delayed because he'd have to prep the cabin before they could hoist him in.
The boat should stop to make it easier for the chopper
Please if you can learn anything from a random comment learn how to make a tourniquet from random supplies. 3in/" band is best anything smaller you can actually cause nerve damage to the limb you are attempting to save. Second high and tight! the lower arm is bleeding get one up in the armpit over the clothes to stop it then you can transition to a localized tourniquet 3in/" above the wound not on a joint! Seriously bleeding out is a massive issue and will kill faster then anything. Learn how to properly apply and make a makeshift if you dont have a proper tourniquet but remember it can always be replaced. PS if you apply a second lower tourniquet loosen the initial one otherwise you will cause compartment syndrome which is real bad.
A full artificial heart? Geez
Cliffhanger, what’s Joe’s favorite sport?
Sky diving…
how in the world do you fall down 20 ft...
I like this the guy is having a heart attack and they walk over to him, heaven forbid if the jog or even run over to pick him up to get back on board and move the patient out to higher care where the real work can begin sooner than later.
Pray to God and one-handed call the Coast Guard in the other see which one fills up first
coat coat gard _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
I wonder why the guy didn't have circulation in his arm, and why was it cold????? Maybe because you put a tourniquet on, and the tourniquets one job is stop the circulation of blood to that extremity. And why was it cold? Because there is no blood flow due to the tourniquet!!!
I wanted to join military in a life saving job but unfortunately both my parents became I’ll & in hospital @ same time. One had stroke other had severe reaction to brown recluse spider bite. Both almost died no other family members would help. They were all married with kids. I was youngest & single. Told me it was my duty. Tended to them for years until they died; even after I married & had 3 children of my own. Don’t regret tending to mom & dad but still wonder if things had been different where would I have been. I’m 73 now. 50 to 60 years ago my family threw a fit when I wanted to join military simply because I was a girl. My brother was lauded a hero because he joined. My how times have changed. I was blessed with 3 girls. No sons. All 3 served. One Air Force pilot, one corpsman for Delta force in army & she’s now a doctor & 3rd one top of class classified submarine hunter.
How did that daughter have an Australian accent?!?!?
30:46 - why would you avoid giving him morphine for pain relief, especially in this case where he is obviously severely injured and in unimaginable pain??????
I want to be a coast guard boat unit or maybe get to fly a J hawk or maybe even the dolphin
with the modern medical / individual first aid equipment avalible there is no reason that those fishing vessels can't have adiquite first aid equipmet ie turniqets pressure bandages splints ect. it should be law they have these i mean you can buy them on amazon
Are they still married?
when did Ben Shapiro join the coast guard?
I saw magic island today. It was raining though
Serious question: why would you want to stay at low altitude with a head injury? Does it have to do with popping ears? Honestly curious.
Oxygen concentration and pressure.
If the head is injured there could be blood vessels ruptured etc that the lower pressure could cause to bleed more. More bleeding with less oxygenated blood is bad news 👌
