Awesome video, I always wondered about that tool. Nice to see it used in action and talked about!
Glad it was helpful!
I saw this a long time ago. I thought about getting one and trying nose wrapped stairs with it to save time but then found matching patterns is best up staircases so I never bought one. I think the tool is getting more stretch and getting a tighter crease that’s why there isn’t more carpet at the end. Also it’s three stairs. The consistency of it is what’s good not having to worry out something that’s already been kicked because of exponential stretch from the first kick and letting the pin poke through closer to previous back putting weakend areas closer together
Anything that takes the pressure off your knees has got to be good
definitely a better way to go. thanks for the info.
👍
looks like a reverse restretcher tool . have done all types of floors here in florida for 30 + years . learned from some of the best . couldn't help but notice you did not have to cut at the bottom of the last step . you can only stretch carpet so much till you either rip it or yank the strip out . in most residential homes we always started at the top and whether waterfall or upholstered nose , tackstrip or stapled or combo of the two never had any problems or callbacks including spirals and open spirals . used a knee kicker , mallet , stair tool , upholstering staple gun ,carpet spreader . pattern match , borders you name it . for heavy commercial or residential or higher end berbers i could see maybe using that thing . last time i priced a restretcher they wanted over $ 400 . seems like for any kind of specialty tool they like to nick you . ? how much for it and how many jobs to do to make it worth the investment .
Nailed it. Any average joe can shoot up a set of steps with cheap rug, a tacker and a kicker in 8 minutes and it’ll look great. Grind that wedge real quick in the crease when yer done to get that adorable crease line that everybody loves, boom done see ya. Only pull this gadget out if need be
👍
Great video, could you tell me the size of the step tread in demonstration? Just Wondering if this tool will work on most average size treads
It is made to fit most steps, only super small steps will not work the store it is a common build set of steps like I see in houses all the time, I can’t remember the actual size though
Thank you for the feedback , your a top man.it looks like a great tool I can see it getting steps super tight and helping in those colder months also when carpet not as flexible here in uk. Do you think they could add an additional cotton pad to the design ?
I put a shim behind mine. When I pry it prys on a angle each way to get a little bit of a width stretch.
Awesome
Could you use a mini stretcher to get the side stretch?
Looked like only 4 or fiver pins were down on each spot on tack strip. Could it be from your kicker? Didn’t watch install on that. ? Just a thought.
Would you be able to use that on flatweave carpets? Can you adjust the spikes on the bottom ?
Warren Clarke The pins are not adjustable
FloorsbySouthernboys , thanks southern boys , love the videos , keep up the hard work mate, if u get a chance check out my videos , exude the editing lol .
Have you tried it on a 80/20 wool or some thing with a tight short pile ?
No not yet
How’s it work with bullnose stairs, don’t do much waterfall here in Canada. Great videos bud!
It is awesome
Ruben isnt that going to crush the pins on tack strip'at the back of the step
Where did you find your tackstrip spacing tool?
I order them from the UK, shipping cost is quite expensive so I usually buy a lot at once and sell them on my website, however I am currently out but I will be getting more. www.fbsb.store/product/stealth-tack-strip-spacers/92
Would you be able to apulster the stairs with that? Rather than waterfall?
YES I WILL BE DOING A VIDEO ON THAT SOON
Yes it's me again the believer in the stair stretcher.this is just a tip from experience with this tool if you use my method of installation with this tool that is again one piece of strip at the beginning of the carpet run and one piece of strip at the end of your cut.but if you're installing a pattern match cut your cuts long enough to have at least six inches of material extra at the end of your cut should be a riser cut the remaining six inches should be enough to use as a stencil for the next cut to match the pattern.just use the piece put on top of the next piece your cutting so you can match the pattern exactly just remember from experience do not staple the last riser in until you cut the piece first. especially with berber or woven because than you'll have to measure all over again.and it's stapled in if it not stapled in you can cut and take the piece put it on top of the carpet for the start of the next cut.good luck and fuzzy side up people.lol.🤗
😀👍
@@FloorsbySouthernboys thanks boss man this is Russ Sherry it took some writing all that. Maybe you could do in update and show my method of installing. If you like it have any problems or questions feel free to email me. Hope to see more on CFI weekend. Luv CFI I just cannot afford it right now.I'd get my Master's and be a instructor.
Great for upholstered steps. Otherwise I'll kick it tighter but comes with some sweat.
I’ve seen the stretcher head version but it stretches the stretched stair that’s been stretched. It’s awesome but just having a lever pull down system would be much quicker
what size do the treads have to be to use the stair stretcher?
Honestly I never considered measuring, most steps are pretty standard
Hi Hows the stair stretcher been working for you now you’ve had it a while ? Does it have any cons ? And noticeable damage from top with the sharp pins. Can you tried it on a loop carpet ?
I love it and I have not had any damage with it this far
@@FloorsbySouthernboys that’s good to hear then, thanks for the feedback. I’m still waiting for mine in the post it’s been 2 months now. No more sore knees. Have you designed any thing to use it on winders ? I’m guessing you could make a triangle frame out of Timber to square the tool from.
@@karlmclean2023 No I don’t really see those kind of steps here in my area
@@FloorsbySouthernboys I wish I didn’t see them either 😂
@@karlmclean2023 😂😂
Does it work on turning steps/ winders?
@@TheSoundzUK shame really! as I'm from the UK and most stairs have winders. I never knew that it could be used from the top down by pressing off the riser to stretch the carpet over the nose! Maybe they should invent an adjustable attachment for winders.
If the nails from the tack strip are bent it’s ok cause a lot of people complain about getting their feet pinch with them
👍
Plant your kicker in the riser and press down with your chest in addition to using this strecher that will get that riser like a fiddle string.
Nice
👍👍👍 need a extension for your internet out there rube but good vid on that never used one.
I’m a floor installer for over 25 years definitely a game changer
👍
@@jeffguy5645 nice
I also wanted to say if you're worried about the staple's. I realize that it's against our law to staple steps but with the stair stretcher as long as you pound down the staple's in the crease and the padding is placed in the proper place just like there was tack strip so about Ware track strip would meet the pad my process will have to be a justed for the carpet but once it's figured out the stretcher saves your kicking and saves on strip and labor please remember one piece of strip at the beginning and one on the riser when you're carpet ends.
There is even a way to cut your stair carpet using the stair stretcher for spindles on both sides but like everything else there is a process and some times you have to be smarter than the equipment and Job. good luck and fuzzy side up!lol.🤗
The stair stretcher is great for patterns plus Berber carpet please remember to use the stretcher correctly don't follow recommend instructions bottom line if you know you carpet know your job hopefully be smarter than the equipment and the product using the stair stretcher saves money and kicking good luck fellow installers 🤗
Sorry but I can't help myself (warning do not use stair stretcher when installing carpet on full floating stairs)lol.🤗
Like said nice video bro
Radiel E thank you sir
Hello sir this is Russ Sherry in the past I've told you about the stair stretcher when you're using it every day The prep of stairs is different you save money and labor using the stretcher.you cut your carpet the same for each flight.put one piece of strip at the top and I always put strip on sides and one piece of strip at the end of your cut carpet.start from the top with stretcher once it's pulled Tite use mallet and stair tool and make your crease than while stretcher is still Tite use your elc.staple gun and pull down with the gun and shoot staple's in the crease and it pulls the carpet Tite. go all the way across to the end pull up the stretcher and repeat the process I always tuck carpet on the sides there should be tack strip when you get to the end of your cut carpet just finish it like you normally would you save money on tack strip/just one Ware you start and one Ware you finish.im a firm believer in the stair stretcher lot of people don't like it that's because they don't know how to use it.good starter video keep up the great work.
What are the measurements of this tool? Please
Dave Outside to outside it is 18 1/2 x 10, it will fit on the common step
Top step you pulled loose!! And why start in the middle, start on side move once to other side!?
👍
I have been using it for 15 years
AWESOME
Hey, try the treforce just to know if is good or no!
Alejandro Perez I will before long and do a video on it
I noticed when you stretched it a second time how much extra carpet you had on your riser. Why don't you use a hammer with your stair tool to chisel it in tight? I bet you would've had extra at the bottom.
👍🏻
CarpetMan 😀👍
Shorten you kicker to shortest position and kick the kicker instead of pushing kicker with body!! 40 years ago upto about 15 years ago all stairs were Waterfall so you got ust to doing it a certain way!! The carpet stretcher is good for most stairs today because they are contoured which the stretcher would hold stretch while you staple under nose then wedge with stair tool!!
😀👍
I had a 550 crain kicker shut right on my palm and pinch my skin at full force doing a set of steps learned my lesson not to have kicker out full or half length out
Who sells them UK and are they called stair stretchers or do they have a name.
Great dematration work smarter not harder
Joe S 😀👍
You can also over stretch carpet.
Where can I get this tool
Usually find a used one on eBay. But you can buy new on tools4flooring.com
Here you are

@@WILSON0o6 thanks
Use your speed cat on the stairs 👍👍
Thanks for the tip!
I've never seen stairs installed from top to bottom. I feel like the riser suffers from doing it to top to bottom. I bet if you use the hammer and stair tool and knock the carpet down into the riser like I do mine then it would tighten up the riser? We tired of installing gray carpet yet fellas? lol
And I hear yes, I am installing gray carpet today
The way you did it the raise didn't stretch at all you have to use the hammer and chisel and put a staple in each corner
I work strictly commercial new construction I kick in everything Stairs bedrooms hallways if it’s stretch in hallways I can guarantee I get a stronger kick with two kickers that I can get with the power stretcher
😂😂😂
Must be in your 20s, maybe 30s, think you know best. I promise you, you do not get a better stretch with a kicker over a power stretcher. Especially if installing 60 oz or better carpet. Also if you are using a kicker for everything, you will have a very short career as an installer.
Yeah that’s not gonna happen, so if I’m using cheap frisée or something and it’s small Rooms and can get carpet warm we might boot in… but that’s thin light carpet. Any heavy carpet with hard back needs to be stretched, you aren’t getting an inch stretch with your knees and this is coming from a guy who does lots of new apartment work and has kicked many lightweight carpets in, but I can still stretch the carpet far more with a power stretcher. I mean get the frog legs for the stretcher, no more poles for anything but heavier carpet
Kicker stretches the riser an tread where the stair stretcher only stretches the tread!! Kicker is quicker and your not slamming the kicker like you would if kicking in a room!! Work wise it not that much less work to lose the time spent messing with that thing!! The riser is getting stretched as well as the tread by using kicker!! The stair tool is used to wedge carpet in the wedge of steps using a hammer!!
👍
So instead of 10-15min to do a wall to wall flight of steps. With this 20-30 min. Not sure about you but i don't get paid by the hour
In a real sense you are paid by the hour. You wake up go to a job take so many hours to do that job and get paid so many dollars to do that job do the simple math you are paid for every hour of work. If you go home early you get to go home early and and make more money doing another job maybe. Or you can do what you want to do with the leftover day. So if you just want to slave over a job taking longer to do a job and making the same amount of money go ahead it's your choice.

Man your really splitting hairs here!.

@@lucasreuss3170 😀👍
If you beat it down in the Crack it would be tighter,
Iv been doing carpet alot longer then you have
It made no difference. You said you used the knee kicker to install the carpet first then pulled the carpet off and used the same piece of carpet and installed it with the crain stretcher. You didn't cut any extra carpet off. That means that it makes no difference as to which tool you use. Also, the stair stretcher would be useless on corner steps (winders).
Your information rich videos will be much better if you get a helper to hold the camera. First 20 percent was painful to watch.
Sorry buddy
I bot the sters strecher but I never used mm I'll give another chance I just want used less my nee🤪🤪🤪
Radiel E 😀👍
No it doesn't. Its thr SAME as when you kicked it. No extra carpet.
I don't like kicker to used
I ordered this and they ripped me off, don't order
What do you mean they ripped you off?
Garbage invention for assisting in the easiest style of carpet stair install the “waterfall “ Should never ever be done unless no other choice
Also i can waterfall stairs if I have to in 1/3rd the time and twice the stretch
