I used your video on removing baseboards and removed them all on my main floor and entryway in preparation for new flooring installation. I didn't break any! I am 65 years old and not DIY skilled at all, and am very proud of myself. :) Thanks so much Shannon! I love your no nonsense, clear directions and tips! Next, I'll remove my carpet, with your help.
Thanks , please subscribe to my channel if you have not already.
I'm in your camp. I am preparing to remove the carpet from the staircase. I will be staining the stairs after all the cleaning and sanding in places. We can do it! Thanks to Shannon.
Thank you for this very clear and dummy proof video! I’m removing my very old carpet off my stairs tonight and will be having laminates installed on them. Hopefully my removal is as easy as your video lol. I’m praying my carpet wasn’t glued down

Oh hun, thank you. I'm an old 48 yo single mom in England. Iv got to remove my stair carpet. It's been there since the 60's. Replacing it with a runner. To keep costs down, as I'm getting a pro in to fit me new stairs n landing carpet, I'm doing all the hard work. Iv painted bannisters etc. Now to lift the old carpet n paint some more. Your video has shown me, I don't have to be scared to remove it. Thank u xxxx

I wish I had watched your video first because other videos I watched didn't mention tack strips. I didn't know what they were after I pulled the carpet and padding off of one step. Thanks for this video.
Great videos Shannon!
Thanks for your video! We bought a house and the carpet on the stairs was installed in a way that the edge is rounded causing lots of slipping down the stairs. Pulling it all up and installing individual treads.

Thank you Great job. Do You have any video about how to install stairs hardwood after the carpet removed Please? Because I want to replace my house stairs carpet with hardwood
Great vid
If you could make this a series to finish the stairs, that would be awesome. That is on my to do list in my current home as I am slowly getting rid of carpet. Thank you.
I will not be recovering these stairs with carpet but we do have a hardwood video for stairs.ruclips.net/video/Y8qj3js1rUw/видео.html
Thank you sir for the video, really helpful! :-)
"If you wanna buy one of these, or 12..."
You made my day! 😂
Thanks, I think I can do it
Love you put gloves for background decoration. Great video!
3 years ago I removed the carpet from a large staircase and I have to say it’s one of the worst jobs I had ever done. They went staple crazy when they put the carpet in. Every inch had 2 or 3 staples. Hellish job getting them all out. Thanks for the video Shannon.
That’s the situation I have right now. Planning to paint stairs after removing all of these tiny staples.
David Moutardier Best of luck.
Goede tips ik ben er mee bezig
The ease at which you took out those carpet grips makes me so jealous. The people who installed the ones in ly staircase really wanted those suckers to STAY. IN.
9:40 Thank you for this. This is exactly what I'd like to do before our hardwood floor guy can come in and do his thing.
Thanks
Thank you for the "Super thanks"
Would you be able to make a video showing the installation of the final product? I'd like to see how to install laminate/hardwood on stairs
We have a hardwood video already.ruclips.net/video/Y8qj3js1rUw/видео.html
You video on how to remove carpet on stair is very useful to me and I’ve learned lots of information on how to do it. Can you please share me video on how to install a laminate or a vinyl plank to a stair?
I wanted to see what I could expect to find under the carpet on the stairs. Thank you.
Everyone's stairs are built different yours might not look like his
I have the carpet pulled off my stringers & am wanting to paint them & the risers (vinyl will be installed on treads only, with noses). There was glue used for the stringers, really rough. Do I just sand it off or should I use some sort of glue remover?
Thank you in advance!
4:01 I feel your pain! Been there, which is why I’m here! 🤣
Great video 😊, now need to know how to sand and paint them 🙈 lol
You can do it!
This video is great! I plan on removing the carpet from my basement stairs and I would like to simply patch the holes lefts from the staples and paint the stairs. What product do you use to fill the holes? Also, can I just prime and paint this type of stair or do you have to change everything? I am not sure if my idea is ok. Thank you!
You can patch the stairs with a wood filler and sand ,prime and paint if you like. Many of these types of stairs are not really pretty because they were built to be covered up but usually with some patching, caulking and sanding you can make then look pretty good.
Good video right there. I’m gunna let the carpet guys do that for me after seeing this.
Not to be a negative Nancy, As a flooring guy, this is not the easy way of doing it, Cool that you do video's and try to help people keep it Sir.
If the entire house has hardwood throughout (117y.o. Craftsman) what might we expect of the stairs? Thank you.
Pratical tips❤❤❤❤
I’m starting today
Hey Shannon, my question is if i have squeaking coming from underneath the stairs, before i blindly start to stop squeak by using screws from the top can you share how the stairs might have been built. Is there a joist or something in the middle of the stairs which i can track and screw into to stop squeaking?
Questions like this are best asked in my forum.www.house-improvements.com/forums/
Hi ! Would you consider tapping in the staples instead of pulling them out or you would advise against it and why? Thanks !
you could pound them in if you like if you are not leaving the surface exposed after wards
Hi I was wondering if you wanted to leave the stairs as is how do you cover up the osb on the back so it looks better? If you wanted to paint it or not. Tfs
A thin layer of smooth plywood or MDF would clean it up.
That's cute. Mine is glued with superglue!
Hey Shannon, do you have another affiliate link for the red pry bar? The specific one you linked is out of stock but at first glance, it looks like there's more than a few others that are white labeled under different brands. While I'm at it, do you have a link for an olfa knife? Replenishing my tool kit and want to use your links.
In this link for the forum you will find our Amazon affiliate links for .ca or .com you can use either one to order anything you want. The red coloured bars are the ones I prefer there are a few sizes. I believe the ones I use the most are 10". I also like any of the Olfa knives with the 3/4" blades. www.house-improvements.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4565
Great info...Question Please.
How would you avoid cutting the wood stairs under the carpet (with that first cut with your utility knife) as our stairs has a nice looking stained pine which we would like to expose again. Thanks for your help in advance.

cut out near the end of the tread carefully .
@@HouseImprovements Thanks for your reply....
New carpeting what should I do
You can tell my man works by the hour 😂
Any tips on filling the gap between the stringer and tread? We want to paint, but there are gaps on both sides (about 1/2" each) that the carpet edges were stuffed into and we don't know what to do to fill it so it's smooth and won't show. Help!
Wood filler and then sand smooth
Do you offer Training? Would like it learning from you
