I'm trying my best to give you the benefit of the doubt, but i just can't get past the fact that you put phantom and scv and 9 and 8, and proceeded to put crown in 4th.
Let's ignore that Blue Coats won and just look at the show itself. The balls you have to have to design a show which hangs your entire brass line out there at the very beginning for just one person to enter early or hang on a MS to long, wow. Then what do they do but bring the entire battery right down front in the judges face, each group one at a time. Then finally, let's bring out colorguard so they are front and center so any and every mistake can be seen. Most balls of any show in years.
Ask me another day, and they might make the list. It's not easy choosing who will be on the list and who won't be. Everyone's got their own biases going on and opinions change over time. Good thing is, these performers know how awesome they are and they don't need to be validated by some random guy's top 10 list.
My list solely on how much I enjoyed (I was at finals) 1. Boston 2. Colts 3. Bluecoats (rehearsal and finals) 4. Spirit (saw in sevierville) 5. Crossmen
Yeah no, Phantom is too low. Colts should NOT be in this top 10. Bloo is right where they should be. Boston could be 1 or 2. BD is WAAAAAY too high! They should be in the bottom 5 of this top 10.
I agree the Phantom show featured a whole lot of "park and blow". And I usually love Phantom but would have like to see less cubes and more drill. The cubes were distracting.
For me personally (subjectively) 1) Glitch (BAC) 2) Promethean (Crown) 3) Change is Everything (Bloo) 4) Vieux Carre (The Mandarins) tie 4) Mynd (PR) tie 6) The Romantics (BD) 7) Blue Stars (Universal) 8) Dance With The Devil (Troopers) 9) Creatures (Spirit of Atlanta) 10) The Broken Column (Pacific Crest) I think objectively speaking the judge made the right call this year, but I am speaking more from a personal standpoint. I put BD low because I wasn’t a fan of the composition, I liked the show more over time, but it hasn’t fully grown on me. BD objectively is a top 3 show.
Bd being top three is criminal, their show felt like 10 different shows put together into one with no smooth transitions. Also they somehow butchered merry go round of life that badly. (Those piccolo trumpets sounded bad to the end)
I thought “Mynd” was the easiest to understand. It is more conceptual but it’s the concept of being enlightened by the infinite amount of possibilities (hence the beginning choreograph). Think of it a how when we are children and we have vivid spontaneous imaginations. It’s kind of a self discovery. The guard is essentially the braincells that are activated and highly functional, the drum-line & percussion essentially are the signal it is sending to the person, the spheres representing a revaluation, and awakening. What made Mynd great is the relatability, as we’ve felt that emotion before, definitely not a 9th place show, but I respect your opinion.
Great review I agree with most of your pics honestly I think the Colts should be lower and I think the top three should go Boston, Blue Devils, Bluecoats
Thank you for not just saying Phantom's the best because they did a thing with the Mellos standing still and playing as loud as possible past the front sideline.
@@soupman6124 I mean that’s literally all anyone talks about when it comes to this show. “This is the best closer of all time” and people never saying basically anything about the rest of the show would incline me to believe that the only part of the show that matters is the closer
@@KlldbyCuriosity that is just straight up NOT true, people just love the closer, there's been plenty of talk about stuff like the opener, equilibrium, and fly or die, I dont know how you managed to not see any of that
BD was not engaging. It felt like every show they have put on the last 4 years, a bunch of fun high brass singers with a bunch of cool visuals that don’t really combine into a cohesive thesis
My comments…not placement Phantom - most accessible, loved it on the first viewing BD- same formula as last year and performed well - they shoulda won Bloo - fun show, and very straightforward drum corps, which I loved! Maybe 2ndish BAC- very clean, cleaner sound in person at finals. Crown - I loved the sound, but really had a hard time loving this show Mandarins - loved the opener! The show kinda had some parts that dragged on SCV - drums super clean and “welcome Home!!” Was the saying of the night Blue stars - had breakfast with some staff the day after, liked the add of the dm on Saturn at the end Colts - a little bias, but bias aside I am digging what they’re doing with drill. And the two sided unis were wow! Used very well along with drill Troop - great show top to bottom! If I wasn’t biased I’d place them above colts! Cavies - I sat next to their staff, which was surprisingly quiet the whole show. I guess they lost the big faces on the props. They kinda were distracting. Madison - just starting to get their soul back! The closer was great!
BD wasn't as consistent in execution as they were years past which is why they didn't win. Formula doesn't do anything if you aren't as clean as the competition. They were really good though I dislike the hate they've gotten.
Given the fact that BD may have won shows earlier in the season, but never EVER really engaging the crowds, and then staying down in 3rd for at least a week, indicates you are another hopeless BS knobslobberer. For Shame. I actually enjoyed Romantics more than anything from them since Felliniesque (certainly not the last two snoozefests), especially the Diablo III Opener ( I played that game for 11 straight years). But they absolutely dont deserve to be 1st in ANY RANKING, not this year.
Just own it and admit this is a list of favorites. That's totally a fair list to make, but I don't see how this has anything to do with where anyone "deserved" to be placed.
@@lukeeberhart3372 It is, but I take execution and demand into account. Pretty sure in the video I say that Phantom got 4th and that they earned it and undoubtedly deserved it
It's your video and your opinions, so obviously do whatever you want. But my friend, I suggest you learn a little more about audio/visual coordination, pacing, prop design, color choice, using space effectively, and general effect before you sharing your opinions, lest you make yourself seem completely unqualified to speak on the matter in the first place. Have a nice day.
