    This base design is so nice and simple. I got 500 stone building blocks as a Tier 2 Quest reward and was able to build this in about 15 mins right before horde night. I did, however, use a pole as the walkway the zombies use to try and avoid pileups.

    • @IzPrebuilt
      @IzPrebuilt  2 года назад +13

      Pole works well, I actively do want a bit of piling up on this base though for the melee glancing blows mechanic, basically i can stab or swing into a crowd of a few zombies and damage them all. Great for clubs and sledges for knockdown, and nice for knives for bleeding.
      If I was going to use my bow on horde night or if I was going to do a penetrator sniper build, I would want that thinned horde so I can keep them all single file as those weapons have no real spread so it's either hit 1, or in the case of the penetrator sniper build hit 5 with 1 bullet but they have to be single file.

    Just a couple of ideas for this base. Using shapes, if you go into Construction > Security Grate Centered you can use it to replace the blocks you used for the catwalk. These blocks still have full strength, but are much thinner, making zombies fall off easier, and preventing them from stacking during hordes more than one at a time.
    As for those side stairs, if you look under Decor > Trellis (either square or diagonal, as long as it's climbable) you can put these on the sides of the staircase (not the actual stairs, just the solid blocks). Zombies will climb these rather than hitting the blocks, reducing or completely eliminating damage to those blocks in case of pathing issues.

    This hoard base is stoopid awesome!
    Rolling up on my 7th blood moon with the following upgrades:
    Entire structure is now concrete
    Rear platform is enclosed with a ladder and hatch leading to the roof
    Campfire, storage container and generator bank inside enclosed platform
    Blade traps near ground on either side and the front of main pillar
    Blade traps on either side of catwalk just before entrance
    Blade trap above entrance to keep them from stacking
    Hella mines behind the main pillar with a pit full of iron spikes directly under the platform
    And a two deep bed of iron spikes on either side of the catwalk leading up to the blade traps as they tend to catch loot bags giving me an opportunity to run out and grab a few on occasion.
    Only concern with the upcoming Blood Moon is the fact that a couple of my blade traps were damaged to under 500 HP by the end of the last BM. But structurally, this baby's sound!
    Thanks so much!

    I suggest using bars, instead of full blocks, for the roof. That way, if you get any vultures, you can shoot them.
    Also, since this is a20, the zombies will crawl over the hatches. You need to have something to block them. I use door frame tops.

  • @hopsar8799
    @hopsar8799 Год назад

    I know that I'm super late, but I discovered something with this build. You can make it another tile wider, maybe even 3, for little extra cost. Double the lanes and maybe make them a tad longer, and then into the later game just add electric fences. Later game you can just upgrade it to as much steel as possible and you can last a long long time with such a simple build. It doesn't break pathing, so horde nights won't get boring. Great xp grinder every 7 days in game.

  • @qwoeppel
    @qwoeppel 2 года назад

    Two tips, On the front, just above the door, if you put upside down ramps, they can't stack up. And if you leave the top as bars, you can shoot any vultures. That keeps you in your hallway.

  • @crossmr
    @crossmr 2 года назад

    a few things:
    1. make the roof bars, then you can shoot vultures
    2. I made something similar to this. The stairs were bigger, had a landing and were a full stair pyramid, no issues with zombies getting stuck
    3. Instead of a corridor, 3x3 room with bars on the front. Gives you room to throw down a dart trap to shoot right down the bridge, and put a junkie on the side. Leave out the middle bar and you can melee through it while stepping left or right to shoot. You can double up the bars for extra protection
    4. the whole key to these kinds of bases is the raised bridge so that zombies can't pile up and attack your front blocks all at once. People who try to fight through a hatch on the ground leave 3 blocks wide in front of the door (the ground) and that allows much faster damage on your defenses.
    5. Also electrical fences. Electrical fences across the bridge can make this base last a long long time. You can just sit there popping head shots while they jam up there.

    I made a base similar to this but with a longer walkway for the zombies and a pit with metal spike traps and ramps for them to slowly make their way out of the pits. I also put two side platforms on the walkway with hammer guns so that the zombies get knocked into the pit. There is some maintenance though - sometimes have to fill in holes made by exploding zombies, replace the spike traps, etc.

    I've built that base as well now, though I prefer centered half blocks for the catwalk, so zombies slip up easier (though I guess it's more for looks than effect, really). Also, Maybe use plates or sheets or what they're called at the edges of your stairs, just to smooth out the bump you have from digging plus placing a block. Works wonders as well when you have a door into your base that you like to drive through with vehicles, by the way.

    I don't watch many videos on this game, but, in my experience if you spawn in a small town, there is a small power station, it is all concrete with a broken wall, and a small basement. IF, you can buy 250 concrete and get something like 1k cobble. u knock down the 500 health concrete blocks in the hole in the wall, the door and some of the interior crap, u'll figure it out when you place your internal bocks. I basically layer the internal walls with wood or cobble bars, i fill the hole with 1 layer of concrete bars. I personally use some horizontal bars in the middle so i can eventually repair when i have 2 layers thick. so u have concrete external walls, filled with 1 layer of coble all around except the horizontal., so the zombies rush that horizontal bar. I personally try to buy pipe bombs, u can make it easily through night 7 in this. and with some more concrete it's very cheap to get a 3 deep concrete wall, with 2 deep concrete bars where the zombies attack. i just hurl pipe bombs and can very easily kill all the zombies on a horde night for many weeks. if I move to a bigger city i just build a similar base with concrete and steel, and have made it to night 70 without dying on the hardest setting with i think 24 zombie waves or something. Sadly that building isn't available in big towns or medium towns from my experience. i hope that made some sort of sense lol

    Just building and upgrading a basic base from wood frames to cobblestone with a grated fence is enough to max out the engineering perk to craft steel without finding any schematics. I found that giving them something other than your base to destroy, it this case pillars of two blocks on top of each other set around the fall zone can work. The zoms attack those and not your base, they are cheaper than iron and stronger than wood. But don't hurt the zoms of course.

    Some tips for building this base
    1) Using centered security grates (from the construction tab of the shape helper) can help avoid zombie pileups and usually only have you dealing with one or two at a time.
    2) Security grates can be used for the roof in the corridor base can be used to counter vulures.

    This is a variation on the design I use. You can cut some of the costs and make 100% of the blocks reachable to upgrade if you do some things slightly differently (I have held vrs. a nearly GS 150 horde w/ this design without issue; without doing any repairing during the fight, which can improve it's longevity by a lot).
    To start, off with, it's fine to have the foundation of the corridor only 1 block wide as long as you're at least 4 blocks off the ground (from experience, being only 3 will lead to some zombies wanting to beat their way to the block your standing on instead of coming up the stairs to the kill zone). You can put the stairs leading right to the corridor, no reason to have a walkway they can fall off of (and possibly enter into destroy mode from that). Make the stairway 3 blocks wide (and the middle part of the foundation of said stairway hollow, no blocks, because it doesn't need to be filled in and you cannot reach the interior to upgrade it later; still have stairs flush with the others in the middle though). The set of stairs that will set against the corridor entrance should have corner stairs for the sides to encourage the zombies to funnel into the corridor. Do not put a hatch in the first block of the corridor (if you do and have it open towards the entrance, zombies can attack it from the side where you can't easily shoot them plus this negates the intended funneling effect of the design). Start at 1 block past the entrance block. You can make this corridor up to 30 hatches deep without pathing issues for the zombies (trying to for 40+ may lead to it not working, better if you need more than 30 to make an identical copy next to the first 1, but facing the opposite way, so you can bail and just run into the 2nd one when the first one runs out of hatches; you can obviously make more than 2 of these if for some reason you need more than 60 hatches to last the night just continue inverting which side the entrance is so as you bail from one you can enter the next 1 quickly; I've never needed more than 30 hatches myself, and those were still iron!). Lastly, for the back of the design, extend the foundation 1 block past the corridor end, and have the back of the corridor open (this is how you can bail in the event that you run out of hatches), I extend the top level of the foundation (which you stand on while using this base) 2 blocks out instead of 1 to give more room so you can actually use the last hatch and be just out of reach of the zombies (this space is also helpful when you need to clear the birds). The corridor should be walled in like shown, except the ceiling only need to be 1-block thick (I've never had the birds manage to breach my ceiling, even when I've left a dozen of them attacking it while dealing with all of the zombies first). I don't recommend trying to use bars instead for the ceiling because while this would allow you to shoot at the birds without going to the back of the base (or out the front if it's safe), this would also allow radiated birds to spitball you 24/7...not a fun time. I've never had them try to dig until this base either, so digging out the topsoil to start the foundation is unneeded.

    If you can get the zombies "out" of the destroy area mechanic via spike/trap damage, i reckon a rotating blade trap at the bottom of the bridge will do the same aswell?
    EDIT: Oh nvm, that's why the walkway/bridge has been extended to 2 more blocks, to accommodate a blade trap, answered my own question.
    Upon further testing of this base with some of my little own tweaks
    (Extended the corridor to 4 more iron hatch's, And the entire base has been upgraded from the ground up to concrete)
    and was able to survive the day 21 horde no problem, if you see a cop, crouch and stay out of sight behind the hatch's to avoid his vomit's.
    Interestingly some of the zombies go immediately into destroy area mode when they approach from the back of the base toward the stairs, the zombies will take a whack at the corridor main structure then proceed to walk to the stairs.
    i have placed a single file line of spikes around the rear of the base to combat some of the destroy area issue, the concrete was more than adequate for the job so if the zombies got through the spikes near the rear of the base, it was no problem.
    This base testing was done on my own SMP with Scavenger difficulty. AI block damage at 50%, Zombies per horde was set at the standard 8 per wave.
    I will try vault hatch's with forged steel upgrades to the main structure of the base to see how the base will fare with the added upgrades.

    I like this design its a good basis on which you can expand. Thing is though (and keep in mind I'm a novice player in 7days), I opted to built a simple 5x5 bunker base in the ground floor reception area of DiShong Tower with an iron hatch on the roof and 1 layer of wooden spikes on the walls, recently upgraded to concrete.... I'm now approaching Day 70 solo with normal settings on A20 plus I get the benefit of loot stage bonus being in the wasteland biome and tier5 poi. So I get why you'd want to make a more elaborate or interesting base for gameplay reasons, but if you just want a cheap base that will take you at least 10 horde nights in I'm not seeing a better cheaper option in all honesty.

    I'm really appreciating your content, and look forward to more. A few questions... You did a similar design on your beginner's guide. I'm curious why you went with the full block bridge on this, instead of the half, and replaced the iron bars with hatches. I actually never used the bars myself, a hatch had worked just fine for me, and was nice to be able to enter from that side. Also, you used full stairs all the way up. I've seen some folks use single blocks that they have to jump up, which slows things down a little so I can grab a breather. Thoughts there?

    • @IzPrebuilt
      @IzPrebuilt  2 года назад +3

      I use a full block bridge on this because I am now more aware of that "destroy area mechanic" so I actually want a bit less falling down in this early stage where all I have to stop the damage is the spike. I would also kind of prefer a little bit of piling up at the doorway so I can do some glancing damage with my knives, in the beginner's guide I was using a bow so I was leaning towards trying to thin out zombies to a single line.
      I use stairs because you actively want the zombies to get up the stairs faster and into your melee range but you need to do it such a way that there is a steady flowing stream rather than big clumps, the last thing I want is bunching up on the stairs, and then half the zombies get enraged and start smacking the stairs, and then the stairs fail and then they start just beating the walls and foundations because they can't reach me and destroy the whole base.
      Note: that last scenario probably won't happen, but it's likely enough and easy enough to avoid that I just work around it automatically.
      You need to add distance (catwalk) to slow it down, you need to have enough room for the zombies to flow but not so much that they can swarm (the 1 wide nature of the catwalk) and you need to make sure that the zombies can get back to the top as easily as possible (the very easily accessed stairs) and you need to keep killing or knocking over the zombies.
      It's like a well-oiled machine you don't want clots making stuff get backed up because then things start to break.

    Pretty much the basic bones of most of my bases...
    I like to add a horizontally placed door in front of my fighting area so I can dump the zombies if I need a minute to heal, repair and reload. I like INT builds so I normally have a robotic sledge by day 14. This style of base will work for as long as you want to upgrade building materials and add traps and turrets.
    Honestly when I see people having bad horde nights online, its never because they stuck to a basic , simple design like this.

    Nice base and video. I always use this kind of design early game. But why do you need to craft both wooden and iron hatches, then place and upgrade the wooden hatches to iron, when you could directly place the iron hatches first? Similarly, why not craft cobblestone blocks and place those directly instead of placing wooden blocks and upgrading them, which uses extra wood?

    So, I was just about to hop on my game, horde night imminent, when I watched this and realized my horde base could be a LOT better, and learned why to upgrade blocks instead of crafting cobblestone blocks. Long story short, I'm going to fire up a new world lol. Curious about using iron bars in the roof to handle vultures?

    • @IzPrebuilt
      @IzPrebuilt  2 года назад +1

      Iron bars used to break zombie AI so using them on the roof of bases like this was considered premium grade parisian cheese (meaning I couldn't make a video about them lmao) because zombies would stand still after the first layer of hatches, However I have no idea if this strategy works anymore, or if the new zombie ducking makes them do weird things under bars, but in theory yes, bars or similar blocks will give you access to the sky and the ability to shoot vultures.

    This type of horde base will last into the late game, when it is properly upgraded. The basic simplicity of it is why it is considered a classic.
    A very simple way to deal with birds, is to use bars instead of blocks for the center portion of the roof, you can then shoot them.
    All the best.
