With a failing toaster and interested in multi purpose kitchen gadgets I was intrigued by the Ninja and it’s design that preserves precious countertop real estate. I had already dispatched an air fryer to a closet because of it’s bulky single purpose function. I was reluctant to buy another appliance and was just going to replace two slice toaster until I saw your well produced video. Based on your recommendation I purchased the newly introduced Ninja Foodie deluxe which has slightly larger dimensions and more functions. In summary, please keep up your excellent work as I learn more about the art of vegan cooking.
Looks great, functions great, and highly recommended. The buttons are touch (not pressure activated "touch"), which was a nice detail ruclips.net/user/postUgkxD4Qeo-HRLxMfom_PDinM_SBfes00qJsB Perfect size for normal every day meals, and it cooks food very thoroughly. On preset settings upon first use, it cooked my chicken breasts to a crisp. Boarder line too dry, so next time I'll either decrease temperature or time. Not a bad thing, just a minor adjustment for next time. No oil was used, so food was clean to the touch. Excited to see how other meals will turn out. Will recommend to friends and family in the future!
Re: dehydrating- I use the dehydrator function when I’m decorating cookies using a vegan royal icing. It sets the designs super fast so that they can be stored better. Not the reason I bought the Foodi, but it’s an added bonus!
😲 That's a great tip!! I always have that issue with some rum pecan cookies I make, with the icing not setting fast enough. I might use that in the future. Thanks!
Dehydrating is not something you do while you're sitting around. It's something you do in the background while you're home doing something else. Dry your own herbs, onions, hot peppers, make tomato chips instead of potato chips for snacks, make your own croutons, I could go on and on.
Great review and demo. This is one of the best if not the best review/demo on RUclips. We bought one of these for our 5th wheel RV. It’s the perfect form factor and really does a great job.

I was absolutely 'on the fence' about this item, and a friend mentioned online she'd just purchased one today, so I did some review searching. Yours is SUPERB, and helped me make my final decision. Thanks great big bunches!!
Great review! A bit fiddly to get the trays in/out, I have a few burns t o show for. But I got the hang of it and by now I wouldn’t miss it in my kitchen. I hardly use my traditional oven!
I just found one of these at Goodwill for $11 and brought it home. It does turn on and looks to be in working order, so I came looking for videos on how to use it. It had the manual with it and I downloaded the food guide. Gonna have my husband check it over for electric safety, since it's been used, but if it's all good looks like I've hit a gold mine for a capsule kitchen for my daughter! Walmart still sells this model for $168. Thank you for your review video!
One day when I get my own place, this appliance will be one of my best friends in the kitchen. I love baking food to start with, this is just way more faster and less power consuming than my usual gas oven, especially with the 1 min pre-heat!
Enjoyed this video immensely. You showed us exactly what happened with each function. The Ninja works great. You have a good sense of humor!! Thank you
I asked for this for Christmas. I have a dehydrator. I use it to make my own jalapeño powder. I buy jalepenos when it’s in super sale and dehydrate them, grind them up and put them in a shaker. Yum. It would like work but it’s really not.
Re your old oven…pull the oven knob off and look at the back of the knob. It may have an adjustment screw on the back. Make an adjustment, then open up one of those store bought “slam-on the counter” biscuits from the supermarket and bake half according to the directions as your TEST. If you need to adjust the knob again, you still have the remaining biscuits to try again. It worked for me…I had a similar problem.

Sooo, Costco had this in their coupon book ($139). My husband had been wanting an air fryer, but frankly, we don't have a big kitchen and not a lot of counter or storage space. My husband found your review and the first thing I thought was 'hey, his kitchen isn't any bigger than ours!' So we watched your video and we were sold. We could get rid of our 4 piece toaster and when it is flipped up it's not going to take much more space that the old toaster. We are so glad we did. This device is great. Popular or not, you should get a commission because it was your review that sold the Ninja foodi! (P.S. - yeah, not worth dehydrating food in...we actually have a food dehydrator that can do 10 times as much as you did or more.)
@@geneafahdevere1596 I have no problem cleaning mine. Trying getting parchment paper it helps a lot. Wipe basket off when it's still slightly warm it get excess gunk off then wash right away in warm soapy water
Interesting to see a review of the model that no one on RUclips uses anymore but rather the newer, larger Ninja Foodie Oven. If you don't have the need for a voluminous toaster oven / Airfryer, this seems perfect. Thanks for a reminder that just because a newer model is available doesn't mean that the previous model should no longer be considered. 👍
Agreed! You really get your bang for your buck with this one. I don't need a huge air fryer along with my toaster oven. I guess I can understand if you were air frying a large amount all the time, but still, I am very happy with this model!
Thank you for your review. I bought mine at Costco when it was on sale. I haven't used it except to toast bagels and bake brownies, but so far I've been very happy with it.
I bought one over the weekend and just made pizza in it last night - frozen, not homemade - it worked great! We've been using a convection microwave in our 5th wheel camper since it does not have an oven and could not get a good bake on our pizzas. This is a game changer. Thanks for the video showing the other features we haven't tried yet!
I have one of these and love it. Only down side is cleaning it. Yes, looks easy but it's not. I cooked wings in mine and have grease all over the inside from just one use.
I purchased mine from Goodwill in Lawton OK. It works great. The pizza was just like cooking in the big oven but less time and I can use this in the summer time for cooking Pizza and fries.
Came across your channel looking to see how to air fry steaks in our New Ninja Foodi. Really good review of the Ninja Foodi. Great channel and great video. Your channel is better than most out there. Thanks!
I think most counters can comfortably fit it vertically, but definitely measure to make sure (unless you were talking about the height inside--in that case, we haven't really found it to be a problem!)
I thought I was cleaning mine. Then it started to smoke. I released the bottom and found just a little bit of smoke. Mind you, burned liquid grease was dripping out of the back, right corner of the appliance. I finally realized that there was a removable tray inside the bottom, that it was not easy to get out. When I took it out, & turned the unit upside-down, I was sho cked to my core! I have been trying the burned on grease for hours! Be advised, clean this every time you use it!
Helpful video and you're fun to listen to. Btw, if you're a soy curl fan like I am, I like popping the curls in the air fryer for a few minutes after they've been rehydrated but before adding them to a recipe -- it gives them more "tooth." :)

I have a microwave pizza oven that I got as a gift many years ago, it also has a rotisserie for Cornish game hens and other small foul. It microwaves but also has a heating element. It has been in the attic for many years. It’s not practical to have a microwave over the oven and one on the counter. With that being said it makes amazing pizza and also excellent rotisserie in shortened time... I know it’s a bit off subject but this air fryer just made me think of that. Interesting combo!
Counter space is definitely a hot commodity! This one is great because of that space saving feature, but I totally understand not wanting a lot of bulky appliances out. This one does make great pizza, and the air fry option is fantastic too.
The dehydrating function makes more sense for leftover veg you don’t want to just waste. Such as a single dehydrated apple can be preserved for adding to oatmeal. Think outside the box. Many people would use this function. You just aren’t there yet. Thanks for the demo.
Beware it's horrible to clean. I bought this primary to make turkey burgers on the broil option. Well as turkey can do, it does splatter grease and that sticks to everything. It's difficult to get into the areas where grease is stuck (especially on the top due to the heating elements that sit just below the top). Love how it works, but the cleaning is something you have to think about if you want to make meats in this. They didn't design it well. Oh and the broiler pan WARPS! Yup, others have said it on dept store reviews and Ninja won't response if you email them. So plan on buying more than one pan.
Thank you for your feedback! I haven’t had to deal with much grease splatter so haven’t experienced those problems, but can see how that could be an issue.
Great overview on the Ninja Foodie Air Fryer! Any ideas on cleaning the inside of the oven and accessories? I used mine four times, and it’s ready to be cleaned.
Observation: Bake for pizza? Not air fry? Mine's new in my truck bed so I open it tomorrow. For 12" pizzas just break off enough to fit it all in like many do with toaster ovens.
10:55 - set it up to dehydrate every night before bed and eat apple chips 2 times / week. Or, whenever at least 1 person will be home, leave it on whenever you're not cooking anything else during the day.
A very good and nice review in a very easy way to understand the features were talked about. I am heading to Costco today to pick it up one replacing the old Black and Decker. Thank you so much "The Vegan Test Kitchen", though it is going to cost me extra 70 dollars (Canadian) but still worth it.
What a great review I’m thinking of buying one for myself and I think you have convinced me oh and by the way you have a new subscriber for sunny islands of the United Kingdom thought your review was informative and you are very engaging thank you so much 😊
Nice job--- very informative and you covered pretty much everything. I'm a Black & Decker guy so I know exactly where you're coming from on clean up, etc. I'm going to pick one of these Ninja's up.
I have owned one for a little over a year now... major problem is when its time to clean it, not much room to put in the needed elbo grease to clean the stuck on grease.... also the text starts wiping off the control panel, so you better remember what the settings are... (: It does cook great though!
I saw a commercial for the Ninja air fryer. I like the design compared to other air fryers. I have cooked pizza in my toaster oven. My first oven used to take 20-35 minutes to preheat (Not joking). I bought a cheap used toaster oven. I used to make all sorts of things in it since no one has 25 minutes when they want french fries or pizza asap.
I recently bought the Ninja Foodi SP301 (updated version of the Ninja Foodi). this air fryer has 13 functions and I must say I am loving this so far. I don’t have to turn on the oven to prepare a meal and it is plenty spacious. I haven’t seen any reviews on the current version of the Ninja Food (flip).
I didn't know they came out with a larger model! That seems to be the only complaint from people about this version, but I have to say--I haven't had any problem with it's size yet.
you can dehydrate your fruit while sleeping. it's on low temp. that's how i cook my turkey, for TG. it's moist and falls off the bone. ck out wal-mart they sometimes have a good deal on these.
Used mine yesterday baked homemade biscuits. They came out like a dream. Have you ever used a silpat mat on the sheet pan? I wondered about that. Very helpful. Beautiful kitty🐱
@@TheVeganTestKitchen I called the folks at Ninja and the lady I spoke to say yes heat safe silicone mats can be used in the ovens. Though I'd share with ya😉
I like your review! We have the ninja foodi as well. The first thing we used it and bought it for ironically was the dehydrator function! We needed a dehydrator to dehydrate mushrooms and we had the same thought as you, why not get this that can do it all? We have limited counterspace as well. We think the dehydrator is great, you get more room than you would with some dehydrators. I agree that it would be nice to be able to insert an additional rack since dehydrating takes so long but it works for our needs.
We just bought this. I’m hesitant to keep it because it seems hard to grab hold of the pan and the basket simultaneously when air frying, let alone being able to hold them while actually flipping food over. Plus, I see you’ve lined with foil but the directions say never use foil! Are they afraid it’ll fly around the oven? I’d probably use it anyway..or parchment paper. Not sure whether to keep it. 😢
Do you happen to know how tall it is when store vertically?
It's just under 15.25", it's also 20" wide in case you need that :)

20-35 minutes?! Yeah, that's insane. This one preheating in 1 minute is pretty crazy too, and I think they're serious about it.
The ninja is amazing and the flip up feature is great.
Agreed!
Great review! Have one and really like. The internal height bothers me a bit but not enough to return.
I can see how that would be annoying sometimes, but it hasn't really affected my cooking either.
Wow this video is so informative and funny. Thanks.
I think I'll get a dehydrator plus the ninja thanks 😊
Glad I could help!
Have you tried baking a cake or pie in it? I'm wondering if there is enough room to fit it in before buying it. Wonderful review!
Thanks very informative and just ordered one👍
Excellent review!
Thanks, Marilyn :)
PART 2 please I loved it hahaha 😝 that perfect toast 👍😏
😆Thanks!
It would be cool if u showed how to get the temperature n what to put it on
Used mine yesterday baked homemade biscuits. They came out like a dream. Have you ever used a silpat mat on the sheet pan? I wondered about that. Very helpful. Beautiful kitty🐱
Thank you :) I have not used silpat in this so can't speak to that unfortunately!
@@TheVeganTestKitchen I called the folks at Ninja and the lady I spoke to say yes heat safe silicone mats can be used in the ovens. Though I'd share with ya😉
@@anye76 Awesome to hear! Thanks for confirming :)
@@TheVeganTestKitchen please share your recipe
i just bought this! You are awesome! New to you... thanks for this video!
Glad it was helpful! Hope you're loving it :)
That's great! Do you do anything special with the mushrooms? Use them on salads, or make jerky with them?
I am interested in the mushroom dehydration. Can you tell us how do you do that? Thank you!
Been thinking about buying a ninja
Thanks for the unbiased review
Great! Glad I could help :)
Set the dehydrator to work overnight. Then eat them for breakfast or take with you for a snack.
I know it's suppose to be safe--but it always makes me nervous to leave an appliance on unsupervised! (I'm just a worrywart)
Great video! Thanks!
Thank you
Wonderful wonderful wonderful review. Great job. Thank u
Thanks Daniel! Glad it was helpful :)
