Steven, thank you so much for sharing this. This is really an act of generosity for hobbyists looking to improve their skills. I look forward to the other videos in the series.
Remarkable and brilliant. The artistic and technical skills are truly Masterful. It would be a joy to build such a creation over a natural substrate allowing for a fully living environment.
An interesting method to prevent reflections with black adhesive tapes. I personally use a black filter sponge, but I think tape may be better in some situations. The mud and silicone technique, man, that's another level - the structure looks like it's in one piece. Amazing, thanks for sharing your techniques!✌
If there is one thing that is priceless, it is knowledge...thank you for sharing your technique, it can only raise the level. I can't wait to see future episodes
Wow! What an inspiration! Where was the planning stage? It looked like you just threw rocks in and glued. LOL Your mud technique it’s awesome! I’ve been considering foam with concrete coating, but this is much more workable.
Wow! I would never have thought of mixing silicone with soil putty. I tried this before using bentonite clay with aquasoil and failed. Looking forward to Episode 2. Thank you for sharing 😊
The mud method is genius! I was using the snake skin method, where you lay stones on a aqua foam/styrofoam carving. There was a lot of gaps in between the stones and for the love of me I couldn’t fit other stones there so it would look good. I used the mud to fill the gaps and connect the stones. Looks fantastic! I did use clay I got from cleaning my dragonstone though, not soil. It did harden fine after the super glue. We’ll see how it’ll behave in the aquarium. Made me wonder if you can use actual clay to fill gaps and build structures and if it’d hold after dealing with super glue. 🤔 would be great alternative for people working with red rocks, like dragonstone or petrified wood
yes more, more!!! never knew, or even thought of the tape idea. Thanks for sharing you putty recipe and stabilizing trick. And the thoughts behind the inspiration were amazing
just look at the amount of effort going in to built master scape ......amazing........ i thank you by heart as u shared the solo secret which u use to build ur scape.... i know many who wouldn't want to share their secrets .... thanks again
This was the most helpful und informative video for me about craftmanship & techniques in aquascaping for a long time, especially because I alrdy got a photographic visual background - but lack some practical skills with the materials. But I also discovered over time, I'm not that focused nor committed to aquascaping in (optical) excellences. A well looking community tank with healthy fish & plants is usually good enough for me - but I like trying new techniques and little challenges ;)
What is the rock that is used as the primary piece? I've always called it albermarle; though I know that isn't correct. I have, however, seen it more often in coastal Albermarle County, NC.
Great guide. I wonder if I can use epoxy resin instead of silicone? I think this could harden the material and make it water resistant. what do you think?
Hi Steve. Where did you locate the input and output of the filter in this structure (Echoes of the pali)? Was there a hollow part behind the mountains?
Interesting Steve, and thanks for the effort put on the video. One question I have is in the final step when you added thin cynocrylate glue to the hardened puddy. The puddy shows many "cracks" from drying, which seem to not to be there after the thin glue is added on top. Is the glue simply filling them or you dd something on top of the glue? Thanks in advance!
This is so helpful! Btw, does planting the moss/monte carlo on the structure provide some nutrients or should i still create pockets for soil to plant mc/grow them epiphytically?
Hi Mate. I have a problem with your technology. I hope you can help me. Soil+water+Lawa power and after Black silikon? I tried it, but I didn't get the best results! I have misunderstood something?
This is probably an afterthought, but how do you manage to tear everything apart and clean up the rocks so you can reuse them again in the future scapes? Hardscape costs and hobbyists usually don't have them in abundance, myself included.
So maybe this is a dumb question, but I really want to use your technique, but in a tank that will have a betta. If I let the let sit with water for a bit, would it be safe for a fish?
no worries! Assuming you do cover all "mud" surfaces with super glue, should all cure into a nice hard surface. My fish did great in this tank. Remember, all materials used are ones that we normally use in an aquascape. Again, be triple sure to use aquarium safe silicone though.
Do you use a special kind of super glue for this? I've found that regular "KRazy Glue" softens and comes loose with prolonged exposure to water. The couple of times I've glued my fingers together with Krazy Glue actually I was able to unstick it with warm soapy water.

I use filter sponge too- main purpose of tape is extra anchor points. More tech to come~
He’s not in it for the fish he’s in it for the contest
Your work is amazing...❤ IAPLC Grand Prize deserves you, not the contrary. Cheers from Brazil.
Thank you!

This is the most useful Aquascaping video I have seen. It never cross my mind to use a protector film for the front, so useful!!!!
Thanks! Yeah something I realized only after scratching up my first 120 real bad! lol

Thank you~ In my case, we're only beginning to scratch the surface though. >:D
Really cool video, this reminds me of Terrain making techniques for tabletop wargame scenery and dioramas. Really nice.
Goes to show, information is out there for those motivated to look
Saw this on IG and though the tank had to be over 60 gallons. Would love a video similar to the style about the inspiration!
Wow , Thanks for sharing those new techniques

Great video serie Steve, thanks a lot. Would be great to hear about your inspiration process. 😊
Sure! There is one more master skill vid planned, so maybe after that!

Amazing job ✊✊
Thank you!
Great guide. I wonder if I can use epoxy resin instead of silicone? I think this could harden the material and make it water resistant. what do you think?
If you don’t try, you don’t know! Test it (and report back) 😉
Hi Steve. Where did you locate the input and output of the filter in this structure (Echoes of the pali)? Was there a hollow part behind the mountains?
There were open spots behind both mountains for pipes!
That could be happening- I generally don’t worry about cracks unless it’s likely to break the hardscape. Cracks or rock-like features welcome to me!
@@SteveScapesYT thnaks a lot!
What brand or type of black silicone do you recommend?
Anything is fine as long as no anti-mold poison/treatment inside. Silicone itself is inert, for this it’s not really necessary to be picky.
This is so helpful! Btw, does planting the moss/monte carlo on the structure provide some nutrients or should i still create pockets for soil to plant mc/grow them epiphytically?
I planted on the rock but when I removed the Monte Carlo the roots had not penetrated the super glue coating- too hard I guess!
@@SteveScapesYT i see tysm! Do you have some tips for growing glued monte carlo, slightly nervous to grow them out of soil🙏
is their any room for a filter pump ? or is it not needed because of plants that are to be added ?
Room for filter inflow and outflow pipes to be put in-- but I'm not going to fill this tank; it's just for demonstration.
Hi Mate.
I have a problem with your technology.
I hope you can help me.
Soil+water+Lawa power and after Black silikon?
I tried it, but I didn't get the best results!
I have misunderstood something?
Did you harden it with super glue after?
No! Because the material didn't fit together for me
This is probably an afterthought, but how do you manage to tear everything apart and clean up the rocks so you can reuse them again in the future scapes?
Hardscape costs and hobbyists usually don't have them in abundance, myself included.
Pliers can remove super glue bits, metal brush for all else-- I've never had problems re-using materials.
thanks for the video. can i use something different instead of aquarium soil while making patty (it's so expensive)
Don’t know! The best thing is to test out your own ideas and see!
How do they make the reflections at the bottom the tank look like Theres a river in the aquarium that is so cool
Alright if there enough comments requesting it, Undying or Reflection of Maples can be the next featured layout to cover that 😁
So maybe this is a dumb question, but I really want to use your technique, but in a tank that will have a betta. If I let the let sit with water for a bit, would it be safe for a fish?

what about use cement?
What Rocks did you use?
Lava rock
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌🙏🙏🙏🙏
🙄🔥👍
😂😬🔥❤️
Is this for fish ?
Yes of course! Or the original 120cm contest tank was- I won’t be filling the 45cm demonstration tank.
and I thought only dismantling an aquascape is a muddy situation :))
lol
Got one that's much easier then duct tape this will blow your mind so hold on, 100% window tint!!! i know right
Sounds like one to try! Underwater stickiness something to pay attention to
